hi all, for some reason, when i search for 'mda' no hits come up but i found this by using google's search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408795
according to that page, i can flash any diamond roms to the mda.
follow up question i have is, would i gain the 850 band if i flash to a custom rom? kinda like how the original euro/asian diamond got 850 after a rom upgrade?
and another question on flashing, the main difference between the mda and the diamond is the smaller ram on the mda 128 vs 196 i think. do i get 196 back once i flash with a custom rom?
thanks.

Most chefs here do not include a Radio in there project. But for the few that do, Quad band is always the choice which includes the 850 band.
The reason why most chefs don't include a radio is because Radio choice is very subjective and thus users test and try different Quad bands available here to see which is better reception / battery consumption for their area.
Look for Radios on POST #2...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470306
ah i see. thanks, so i can upgrade the radio separately from the rom. and with a quad band radio, the mda compact iv should be able to make calls on 850? meaning it isn't somehow hardware limited from 850...?

That's right....look for Quad band radios to get 850 band width.

I noticed an unlocked US 3G Diamond at Best Buy today. I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer.
What makes the US version work on AT&T with 3G over the imported version? I have not seen a radio upgrade that allows it yet. The handsets actually looked quite similar with the exception of the back and battery.
I'm just curious whether to pick up the new one in order to get 3G service, or is there a radio update expected?
Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on it for me.
I have a US 3G version and the freq. that at&t uses here has been enabled.

Sure, it would be the 850 and 1900 Bands. But there are Quad-Band radios available for the EU Diamond. I wonder if it's a question about the device not having specific hardware or just being able to enable those bands to work properly.
Sorry for my english
he American Diamond has quad band in GSM and only two band in HSDPA, The people here says that is a har problem not the radio, the people put the american radio (08) in European version and dont work.
The American version came with the 1340 mh battery and without the front camera. Carlos

I have a Touch Diamond I bought last week from new Egg, just like the ones from best buy. For some reason, I can pick up the 3G signal and it will hold on to it for just a second, then x..{disconnects}..then immediatly picks up Edge and then Hsdpa?
I get 25% Edge and 75% Hdspa. I guess if you read the box, it says it picks up a 3.5G internet Broadband Connection....Anything over 3.5mbps is Hsdpa.

I notcied that the US version had the 1350 mAh battery instead of the 900 mAh like the EU version. Was there any documentation on why they did this? Has anyone checked if putting the smaller battery and slimmer back on the US version causes any problems?
I also find it odd that HTC briefly listed the Diamond as a Quad-Band phone on their website, and have since changed it back to a Tri-Band phone.
I still have hope that our European Diamond will work with US 3G with somefirm ware flash or something
No, it will not.

Hi Guys,
After alot of searching on here I was still unable to find my answer.
Im currently using XBMOD's ROM (thanks man its tops) I dont want to change from it. But the problem I am having is here in Australia im with Telstra and it uses 850mhz for its 3.5 NextG network.
I have noticed that with majority of the roms on here this is enabled or even supported. I know my phone has it because when i load it up with Telstras ROM everything works like Foxtel and and what not.
Is there someone out there that can help me get this up and running.
Then we could start mixing it in with the roms here.
thanks
is your phone the European Version?
yeah im pretty sure it is.
I'm using a Telstra diamond, and im running the official Asia 2.03 rom, and it works fine...the network drop down box doesn't show UMTS 850MHz, but it is picked up as far as i know...(i've travelled to a nextG only town and had signal - even without the patch attached installed)...also all the quad band radios support 850MHz, you can enable it in the drop down list using this patch if you want:
i installed it, but where do you enable it? which drop down list?
It's not software that allows us with Telstra Diamonds to connect to the other frequencies but hardware.
Our Telstra Diamond's are DIAM130's. They have extra hardware to enable the use of our 3G frequencies.
well i know i have the hardware cause when i am using the telstra stock rom i can do what i want to do.. so its more of a software side where i have to activate that piece of hardware

Just because you can access the Telstra features doesn't necessarily mean you're on the 850Mhz band (trust me, I learned the hard way)... you could be connecting through their 2100 Mhz network (I think it's 2100). Even if you have the option of selecting 850 Mhz in the phone settings it doesn't mean you have the hardware for it.
Want a definitive check? Try restricting the phone to the 850 Mhz setting and seeing if you can still connect. Otherwise, pull the back cover off, pull the battery away from body and read the model number below the bluetooth icon (assuming they all have this)... if it's a DIAM100 then definitely no go. If it's a DIAM130 then you're laughing and I'm not to sure on any other model no's though.
I've flashed a myriad of ROM's from here on the DIAM130 and have never had an issue with connecting to the NextG network... they have all connected straight after reboot. The only thing you have to do for internet access is ensure you set the HTTP proxy to 10.1.1.181:80 although it has worked fine for me without this.

I live in rural NSW, there is only the nextG 850MHz network here, or GSM...where i checked the signal was a nextG only region...no GSM coverage at all...so i think that's proof enough don't you?

Certainly is - but you have a Telstra Diamond and my comment was directed at luckyluke... or did I miss something ?
radio .08
works perfect for me.

Agree, rip the back off and do this check first, I've found no issues in using any rom's with my DIAM130. I've left band settings to Auto lately.
I use to go in and change the registry to show all bands, but got sick of doing it everytime a rom cooker "missed" our bands.
The cab from Dutty does work I think by my memory ?
I did have a DIAM100 proir, and yes it will show "Telstra" etc but you will NOT get NextG 850.
cheers

HI
try to change registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AdvancedNetwork\SupportHSUPA
from 0 to 1
My device is DIAM100 and upgrade to "hTC_Asia_WWE_2.03.707.2_Radio_Signed_D iamond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23". It also do not have 850Mhz. Is Radio 1.09.25.23 not Quad band support? But it appear when using original ROM.
Most radios support quad band UMTS.
DiAM100 devices do NOT though and this is a hardware limitation.
Hey man, from what you get diam100 have no quad band?
mine has!

The context of 'quad' band in this thread is in relation to the Aussie Telco 'NextG' network which requires 850MHz UMTS connectivity - something you DON'T have on a DIAM100.
You meant only UMTS 850mhz or simply 850mhz (GSM & UMTS)?

We're discussing 'NextG' which is 850MHz UMTS although Telstra do have 3G service via 2100 UMTS as well...
Hey guys,
thanks for the large amount off support. I check my phone. I have a DIAM130.
And I installed duttys cab and chose GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
and it still isnt doing what I want it to do.
Those that have nextg here know that you get access to bigpond, and foxtel mobile tv.
But this isnt working. I think there might be something in the registery I might have to change or something for it to know that its a telstra device.
Hi All,
Sorry if this has been asked before but i searched and i couldn't find an answer. I was wondering since after the Tytn II HTC always manufacture different phones with different Radio Roms to for USA and Europe/Asia (respectively), can't someone cook a rom that actually has both radios? Is that even possible?
That would be great if we can have 1 ROM which is truely Quad band, GSM/Edge 850/900/1900/2100 and HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100.
Or is there a ROM that actually has that? I looked at the Radio ROM thread, it has many Quad Band ROMs but doesn't mention if it's GSM and HSDPA or just GSM.
Thanks for your help and sorry again if the question was asked before.
its already gsm and hsdpa...?
at least i think so...because if you're not using hsdpa(3g) you get gsm right?
Well i live in the States and have the European version of the diamond with the stock ROM, i get GSM but not 3G. I didn't try flashing any of the other Radio Roms yet. Since there are many people here who are like me that would like to have 3G too so i thought of this idea. I have no experience what so ever with cooking ROMs so i was wondering if that's possible. I also travel a lot so it would be nice to have a 3G connection anywhere i am
The diamond with what ROM or Radio ever , shows the freaking US Nonstandard Standard of 850 and 1900 mhz for UMTS
But to use it for online purpose is impossible. It goes only to Edge what is closer to the speed of smokesigns .
The old touch cruise does well in the same areas with the same provider and the same settings .
Someone here who live also in the (Telephone development country) USA and figured out any solution ?
Thanks a lot
i do not have the international Version of the Diamond
sounds like you have the European (900+2100) diamond that does not have the us 3G (850+1900) bands. if this is the case you are stuck with EDGE.
it is true
but the radio or HTC ROM shows 850/1900 UMTS is this just another joke from HTC ?
Thanks
some roms show all the radio versions but are not usable because of hardware dependencies. my rom shows the china 1700 umts band but i know the hardware in my phone does not support it.
it's not htc but rather rom cookers leave all the available versions in windows so people from all parts of the globe can use their rom and see the bands for their country.
850 mhz Radio ?
did found this information quite old but HOPE.
"Sure, devoted ROM cooks were able to give the Euro-spec HTC Touch Diamond some 850Mhz frequency capability. And then HTC came out with their own ROM update that gave the HTC Touch Diamond EDGE-support on the 850Mhz band. But, without a dedicated 850/1900Mhz 3G radio under the hood, the HTC Touch Diamond just couldn’t crack the US market like we’d hoped."
SO is there a Radio, because the 850mhz is there and to get 3G seems a Radio Issue
After searching this and other forums for like the whole day I am able now to understando some things:
1 - My carrier here uses 850 for 3G
2 - The RHOD100 is the european GSM model and uses 2100 3G band
3 - I know how to do the HardSPL flash
4 - I know how to do the radio flash
5 - I know how to do the ROM flash
What I just can't find is (NOOB DETECTED!!!)
Can I flash a radio rom that will connect to a 2100 3G network to my RHOD100 model phone? I tend to believe the answer is no due to hardware restrictions but I decided to ask since you guys know better
im afraid that the band is hard set in the hardware, although POSSIBLE to change it would require taking apart the phone and swapping components.
I just come from another thread with the same story and all I can say is welcome to the club!! I myself bought the T-mo version and my country uses 850 long story short.. My pocket holds a Tilt 2.
