I'm getting an error when trying to sync my phone after new rom flash. I have restarted Vista several times, flashed several different roms, removed and reloaded WMDC, restored my system to prior to today. I keep getting an error after it connects to the computer. WMDC shows the device is connected but will not allow device set up. Any ideas???

Update
I've ruled out the phone. I was able to set up partnerships with Windows 7 beta, WinXP home and WinXP pro. It has something to do with my 'puter. I've done a system restore, removed WMDC and reg settings. I've tried all usb ports, different cables and about everything short of reloading the OS. Still no good. I was able to sync with my old laptop and was able to get my contacts and calendar loaded. Somebody on this board must know what is going on... Please help.

Having the same problem myself with vista 64bit got to be something to do with it, as the phone will sync with XP on my laptop

I have been sync'ing with Windows Mobile Device Center and Vista Business edition sucessfully for a while.
Today I tried to update to WMDC 6.1 and i received some "Unidentified device" messages and now I can't get a partnership between my laptop and my O2 Orbit. I have tried uninstalling WMDC and reinstalling both 6.0 and 6.1 but cannot get my laptop to do anything when I reconnect my Orbit.
Does anyone have any ideas??
Thanks.
I had exactly the same problem - and simply by inserting and removing the USB cable multiple times and rebooting the machie twice it righted itself.....I know it doesn't sound very scientific but it worked!
Yeah, I've tried that multiple times ( and yet again but no luck!!)
Just wondered if anyone else can give a more 'scientific' solution.
Thx.
I had the same
I had the same problem and it did my head in for ages...
Worked fine connecting on original WMDC, but then updgared to 6.1 and it stopped...
tried downgrading, still no joy.
then the solution... on your xda, go to settings, connections, usb to pc, and turn off advanced settings. then try it...

Finally, IT WORKS!
Thank You!
Hey guys, I just came from PDA v23.
I wanted to install crc 14.1 naked bs.
So I installed the at&t stripped version, then crc 14.1 rom.
But after that, I had a lot of problems connecting Active sync with the phone.
I have plugged it into the computer, and it does charge it, but active sync just stays with the gray (idle) icon, nothing happens at all, even if you soft reset it, click on sync or enter the bootloader, nothing happens.
is there something I'm missing?
if it helps, when I plug in the cable, and as soon as it goes in and turns the light amber for charging, activesync does open on the background, but it never syncs not turns green, it does not even try it.
I just tried a different cable that works, and didn't work. Tried another computer and it didn't even bring the message for found new hardware wizard.
Maybe a file was lost, or a driver that recognizes the computer?
I killed the 3 processes from AS:
Wcesmgr.exe
Wcescomm.exe
Rapimgr.exe
And reconnected and opened AS from my phone, and press sync, didn't work.
I also tried restarting computer, neither worked.
I tried using applications that I found to terminate AS like Kill Sync and ReSync, they killed ActiveSync and reopened it, didn't work still.
I've been trying to do this on my work computer, which always worked before the upgrade.
Yesterday I tried connecting the usb into my computer but nothing, also if I connect it to any computer, not even found new hardware wizard comes up.
Tried bluetooth synching, and that worked.
I also tried the WM5 storage prgram, that is not working either.
I thought that maybe I could edit some registry and make this work.
But I tried disabling advanced network functionality, didn't work, enabled it back on, nope.
I think, I'm gonna have to flash it back to the original ROM but as I tried the RUUWrapper is not able to detect my phone, not even on bootloader.
I have a SDHC memory only, and not able to get an SD one.
What can I do in this case?
I have tried multiple things as you can see, and have tried looking on google, but nothing has helped.
I want to see if flashing it to another rom will work, but I'm not able to do it without Active Sync.
How can I flash it back without ActiveSync or fix this Active Sync connection?
Please guys I really need help on this as I'm running out of troubleshooting steps.

did you go to the USB to PC settings and checked the use advanced config?
When I do that it works immediately... maybe try a soft reset and see if it's still
with the right configuration? (unchecked)
Yeah, tried it, but tried it again, checked and restarted and unchecked and restarted, both didn't work.
Thanks for your response.
Hi everybody,
i updated my diamond af few weeks ago, everything worked but now i can't connect with usb anymore, tried activsync and diskdrive on windows xp 32 bit sp3, windows 7 32bit and vista ultimate x64 but nothing works.. ant ideas and or solutions? tried hard reset already..
Same happened to me. USB cable only works for charging now, it's not recognized for syncing. Tried different pc's so know it's not that.
Must be a problem with the Diamond hardware or the USB cable I think.

It seems more likely to be a "software problem" rather than a hardware one. Please try to "hard reset" it (you will lose all data, and restore to factory default). Then do syncing again. If it works, it means something you have installed crash with the syncing.
Or try firstly different cable (for ex. from Canon IXUS cameras! )

1. Ok, try the obvious:
- Go into "USB to PC" applet (start/settings/connections/USBtoPC).
- Make sure that the 2 checkboxes are checked ("Enable Advance network functionality", and "Ask about connection type when I connect").
- Disable your antivirus & FIREWALL (My Norton AV/Firewall doesn't allow ActiveSync and messes with USB drive mode!).
- Now connect to yor PC's USB and see if it works.
2. Check the following key in your registry:
- \HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS
- Make sure the "CacheSize" value is ZERO "0". EnableCache can be enabled or disabled, didn't make a difference for me.
I had the same problem and fixed it following exactly these 2 steps. Fortunately, I remembered to re-trace my steps backwords
Good luck & Cheers
Sim/App unlocked S621 can't sync or even connect via USB, which leads me to believe the port might be fried (it still charges), or the installed unlock bugged it?
Used P4 XPSP3/Vista 32bit + Dual Vista 32bit on multiple USB ports and device is not recognized on Active Sync 4.2/4.5 + WMDC 6.1 after re-installs and re-boots?
ROM ver 1.19.631.3 - HTC S621
Tried bootloader screen and multiple provider base ROM's with always a "Error [260]: Connection" response. Completed file wipes and 5+ hard boots.
Using a "SpeakOut" (7-11) SIM and have loaded other apps on the device via WiFi/IE but need to be able to access FAT32 for business files and would like to 6.1!
Have searched the previous posts extensively.
Please advise and thanks.

1) Try changing the cable
2) check if the device socket is clean
3) Try with hard reset
Still no sync?

1) 3 x Cable/USB Port operational with Canon Camera and 2GB generic 1.8" player, file transfer and power. S621 is charging on all three but no access.
2) http://s591.photobucket.com/albums/ss351/40two40888/
Documents cleaning of what was dirty port.
3) Tried 3x hard reset and watched USB ports in EVEREST Ultimate which logged the Camera, the 1.8" and the USB mouse, but no init or i/o for the S621?
Still no sync or device access. Any more suggestions?
FYI - I took apart the S621 to clean and after restart it took 1+ hours for the display to return to normal with no discoloration or streaking. Thought I would have to install a new LCD.
Please advise and thanks.
On a hunch try a different Computer preferably XP with active sync to diagnose if it's an OS problem a USB problem?
Could be just that your computer is not recognizing it, to which then could be corrupted driver.
Start by trying different comp.

Sorry for the delay in response. Used XP machine at a local computer store and returned the same result.
1) Used two different USB cables that would not recognize the S621 but would mount the 2GB generic 1.8" player.
2) XP Device manger returned no activity on the port but the battery charge initiated.
Any other suggestions? Half-brick?
Brief Sync
The S621 briefly synced yesterday.
The battery was down to <20% and when it was re-charged to 100% it was recognized by XP, drivers were installed and it synced with Active Sync 4.2.
Was able to read the directory but it then started to unmount and then mount several times and now the device won't sync or mount again after reboots etc.?
Any suggestions?
Still no sync
Still no sync with XP SP3(re-installed) & Vista.
Any new suggestions? Still charging via USB and adapter.
Thnx
Hi!
I dont have any trouble syncing my TP2 with my winXPsp3 PC.
But when it comes to my new notebook with windows 7x64 i get the following scenario:
When connected for th 1st time, windows dl'ed synccenter and drivers. I then could connect my TP2 and also dig through the data on it (both device and sd card that is...). But i can not sync whatsoever. Every time I start the syncing, I get an error message somewhat like:
"sync couldnt be done, if prob persist, delete device and set up new partnership...".
Any suggestions???
thx

Did your system find and install 64-bit drivers on your Windows7 system the first time you connected your phone to your PC? Actually, I thought this happened automatically when you connected it for the first time. Are you using USB or Wireless for the first time? I think you might need to use USB for the first time connect and setup on Windows 7.

I had an issue like this and had to delete a device from the WMDC. It only has room for two devices. Once I deleted a device (and made sure my phone was set for SLOW activesync), I haven't had any problems. I'm running W7 64 Professional.
However, My device is on WM 6.5.x now.
