Probably you start the program whith your ear.
Try to put the phone in sleep mode during call, probabbly your problem will be gone.
I always push the power button on the right top corner of the HD when I start calling or am being called.
Good luck!
You haven't mapped the call/answer button with aeb or mobilemagic to start tomtom have you?
I am also getting this on a Tytn II/Kaiser
Definately not hitting buttons or anything - it's really annoying.
Me too. Even more strangely, it opened a TomTom screen from a trip I made before getting this Touch HD, and I'm using new Tom Tom version and new map. So it must have accessed a file on the storage card copied over from my Diamond. Then put this into its Start list.
Sanitising the Start list, and then using Memmaid and cleaning everything out in Protected mode solved the problem. Good luck.
Tom Tom
Hi All,
Not 100% sure why but this is my experience:
When tomtom is closed by holding down the end key or from the application switcher, some tomtom process still remains open in the background (you can see this by going in to task manager).
Then for some reason, when on a phone call tomtom starts running again.
Solution: End tomtom properly by pressing "Exit Application".

any way it keeps frezzing up,
i have tomtom 3 blutooth sat nav, loaded on, which a college has given me!! it works fine but every time i touch the pda it frezzes (plus i dont need to touch it it just does it on its own accord,)
it isnt just when the tomtom is on,
it does it what ever i am doing!!
if you can help, please do!! but remember i may need well detailed info on what to do to rectifi the problem,
thanks bill
Bill, I had a similar problem with my wifes XDA II when I loaded Tomtom software onto it. I did the following and it resolved the problem for me, so you may want to give it a try (assuming you still have the problem).
Tap on Start (on the desktop screen)
Select Settings
Select the system tab at the bottom of the screen
Tap on the memory icon
Select the Running Programs tab
This opens up a window which shows you all the programs which are currently running on your PPC
Select STOP ALL from the options available
This will close all programs running on the system and free up your memory resource, so now go back to the desk top view.
Then start your Tomtom program up again as you would do normally and see if it freezes on you this time.
IMPORTANT ADVISE - You must close Tomtom down from the options within the program which, on my system is a large red EXIT APPLICATION icon found in the Navigator Menu.
Hope this works for you as well as it did for me.
Good luck

8) Go to the windows startup folder and delete connections.exe.
That will free up a lot of resources

whats this do
connections.exe.
Other than connections.exe..
Hey everyone,
I just received my XDA IIs from Hong Kong 3 days ago. Since then, the PDA portion is working great. But the phone keeps locking up. I cannot hear caller and they cannot hear me. I have been soft resetting at least 2 x a day...and missing calls..
is there anything else that we should delete?
Thanks!
max0002
There is an inherent problem with the audio on this particular model (Blue Angel)
The problem seems to escalate if you use the Bluetooth Audio.
I experience the problem 2-3 times a week, even with the connections.exe removed from the Windows/Startup Folder.
Hopefully a new release of the Radio/Firmware will cure the problem.

I've had an O2 XDA Orbit for about a month. It's my first Windows mobile product. I love the range of functions. I like being able to use CoPilot with the GPS. I really like being able to sync my Outlook address book.
BUT... the thing hangs ALL THE TIME. Sometimes it hangs for a few seconds. Other times, it locks up completely and I've got to take the battery out to reboot because even the power button doesn' work.
Last week, it hung during a re-boot, I tried the PIN number a few times and it locked me out for a full day. O2 tech support didn't have a clue what was going on. I sorted it myself. (I've now disabled the PIN).
It's really annoying when you have to wait a full minute before you can make a phone call because it is hanging whilst opening up your contact list.
How do I make the thing stop hanging?

Put either the HTC or DOPOD rom on it, the O2 one is crap.

I don't know about the O2 model but I believe the HTC model already has such a function, it just needs to be turned on. It should be in settings and titled Task Manager.
Download "Audacity" and it comes with a free sd card speed test.
See it it's the speed of the sd card.
If it is then read through the "corrupt card" thread >> you will see the recommendation -- set the power turnoff time to say 2 minutes and never use the on/off switch.
You will need a soft reset in between to reset the speed of the card.

Here is my personal experience on the link I gave you:
Before I installed it - I would click the OK button in the upper right hand corner. The application would only be MINIMIZED. After a while, all the minimized programs eat up so many resources that it bogs down the phone.
After I installed it, the OK button was replaced with an X and it would actually CLOSE the applications freeing up the resources.
It is a small free program that can be uninstalled if you do not like it - so there is nothing to lose.
Now what I don't understand is why didn't WM5 give the choice to either minimize or close applications like they do with PCs

I reckon the reasoning is that if people minimize applications (which they will do to avoid launch lag) and forget to close applications (which they will do ) the device will definitely crash.
For an insight into WM5 memory management read this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/08/16/702746.aspx
Incidentally, the O2 Custom Today plugin included with the O2 UK Orbit rom allows you to actually close an application.
in the bottom right of my o2 device is a little o2 logo that allows me to close programs manually, works a treat
Thank you
Thanks so much to everyone who has responded to my (desparate sounding) post.
I use the O2 button to close applications routinely. I don't leave them open because I know this slows things down and (presumably) increases battery usage. I don't think that is the cause of the problem.
I've already been through the routine with the SD card. I don't think that it the problem either.
The only suggestion here I haven't tried is overclocking it. How do I do it? Does it invalidate my warranty?

Same as mine. It's pretty good.
yup, it will invalidate the warranty so just hope you can take it off before it goes back if it has to, I work for o2, the people in the shop wont know that youve overclocked it and I wouldnt tell them, the repairers on the other hand might spot it so be careful
tou can get the overclocking program here: http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm
theres full instructions, read before you start tweaking it on your own. I have mine overclocked to 260mhz and I noticed the difference immediatley, it reverts back to 201mhz in sleep mode and jumps to 260 when I power it up.
hth
Do you have a skin? I downloaded a nice AppleMac style skin and everything slowed down - took me 2 days to realise the cause.
Also, the o2 icon does not always close programs. Use it then go to Settings/System/Memory , have a look in the Running Programs tab and you sometimes see something still in there that should have closed with the o2 icon!!
Michael
Not sure if this is a design function but everytime I turn the device off it returns to Today's screen.
Actually even when I toggle to screen in WMP and turn the screen back on the PPC throws me back to Today.
I initially thought it was a problem with my ROM (LSG then Custel 1.3) but after flashing to VP3G 3.0 on my 8525 (I have both an 8525 and TyTN) and without anything else installed it does that.
Any ideas if this can be changed? I'd like to open app to stay visible.
Thanks in advance for the help.
I really don't have this problem on my ROM, see signature. I have especially tested it for you to be sure.....
Perhaps flashing 1 device to a different ROM. Can you see it yourself.
that's what i figured so I had my 8525 that was running WM5.
I HardSPL, SuperCID it then flashed it with VP3G.
There is nothing else on the phone but my exchange and pop account setup, owner info and basic stuff like this.
I also have the clock shown on every apps and the extended rom unlock/mounted (though it does it with or w/o).
My TyTN is running Custel 1.3.
I just can't think what could be causing the device to always minimize open apps when the phone is turned off (standby).
It seems that some plugins force a redraw of the today screen when coming out of stb. Nothing much to do but turn off the offending plugin.
Go to settings/today and on tab for objects remove the flag for timeout. Problem gone.
Nice try, no prize - problem not gone.
This appears to be a WM6 "feature".

This is a really annoying "feature" of WM6. So far no answer in the Microsoft forums regarding this. Would be glad if i could return to exactly the screen where i switched off the device or in which the timeout forced it to suspend.
If it is not possible to fix this with a registry hacking, would it be possible to develop a small helper application which saves which application was open before the atual suspend takes place and upon a wakeup reads this information and switches to the last active window ? The app itself is still active, isn't it ?
Regards,
Secuspec
Wait. So what exactly happens? I also used vp3G 3.0 and let's say I have Resco File Explorer open and my phone sits idle for 1 minute and goes into standby mode.. when I press the power button to make the screen turn on again, it still shows Resco File Explorer for me.. Is the bug causing it to go back to the today screen every time the phone goes into standby mode?
if a program is left open when the device is turned off (or screen "muted") the program will be minimized when you turn the Pocket PC back on (you're kicked back to Today).
Glad I'm not the only once having issues. Thought it may be a design (flaw) but IMO it's a crappy one. Wish someone can find a fix.
interesting, it looks like if you remove the device password it doesn't minimize the apps. kinda weird IMO.

Isn't that what you would expect if you have a device password set!?
Mike
ericc - that's exactly the problem. Are you sure you're really going to "sleep", and you aren't just seeing your backlight turn off? (you should have to hit the power button to wake it back up).
Especially annoying when driving with navigation software - I want to just turn it on and see what I saw before it went to sleep.
MikeC - that's a very interesting point. I have exchange push email going, and my system administrator pushes restrictions onto my phone... I use Zenyee Stayunlock to allow me to change the ridiculous 5-minute lockout to something more reasonable.... perhaps either the device lock or Zenyee is the culprit.

Actually not really... my Windows workstation locks I expect to see the program I had maximized still on screen not all down in the toolbar minimized. IMO that doesn't make much sense (and even if it did they should have an option to select the default behaviour).

Works fine on my Tytn with WM6 official Swedish. I don't have a device lock enabled btw.
yes if the lock is turned off the programs will stay open and full screen on resume/screen toggle.
Problem seems to only take place when the device lock is enabled, no matter how long the lock period.

Thanks for the hint samw52000! That perfectly worked for me And it also sped up a lot of programs directly after wake up -what makes perfectly sense since no other program is interfering anymore.
Long time after last reply, but still no solution.
I notice if time in suspend mode is longer that programmed in settings/Lock/Prompt if device unused for... (if you have to tap your password) then screen is same as before suspend.
Has anybody actually got this working exactly as it should?
I am not getting any speech regarding calls from known people already in Contacts.....etc.
Any suggestions?

OK.....what should MSVC Notification Options be set to?
Cheers
i think the software u hav isnt complete because when u install it correctly and reboot when receiving a call or text it should say who is textin or callin u, but msvc works without any problems, if u hav the full verison goto start-settings-voice command-contacts and then hit options button to see if active
More importantly, can we change the voice to something more human?
I think this is a cracking piece of software, although it would be nice if it could also read out your RSS feeds (when asked to do so) and it would be amazing if you could dictate txt messages.
The only down side to using it with the Touch HD is that you have to map the call button to long press, to make it listen. Not the end of the world, but not as good as just being able to click once. For some reason it wont let me map the "back" button, which would be better, since I never use it.
Also while you are able to start applications via voice command ("start camera" being one of the most useful). There doesnt seem to be a way to close the apps in the same way.

I agree that it is a cracking piece of software.
Maybe with AEButton you can map the back button to the 'voicecmd.exe'
I tried the trial from two different sites and whenever i install it on the HD i got a "unrecoverable error" when installation finishes.
First time i was unable to even access settings to remove it so i had to resort to ActiveSync to get rid of it.
Another try from a different source gave me the same error but this time round i was able to access settings to remove it.
I'm afraid of even trying anymore.

Ummm - I do have the complete MS Voice Command and based on another post now realise that each sub-function in the menu has its own options.
I had assumed the Option button was just a general overall one. The "User Guide" is a tad basic really....
So all sorted now and thanks to all with advice....much appreciated.
Now then....how can we change this to either a smooth female voice or Basil Fawlty....???

not tried that yet, but i'll give it a go.
Using the xperia panels I have been able to map a software button, but obviously the current panels port, isnt 100% as you frequently need to exit in order to do certain things.
OK....I have just realised that although the voice actually works....the phone vibrates but doesn't use the set 'incoming call ring tone'....I would have expected "Ringtone and Vibration" (as it is set) and then voice breaks in with callers name, etc.
What am I missing?
Can someone either attach screenshots of Options and Notification settings or list their Options settings for Contacts and Phone please?
Much appreciated.....
Anyone experience random crashing of their HD? Mine start doing it after I installed this app, this morning my HD did not woke me up so I checked my phone and it was completely dead, power button won't work so I had to resort to the softreset button. This has happened again twice today and I just don't understand where its coming from, as the phone wasn't doing anything in particular at the time(obviously as I was sleeping when it first happened). Only thing I can think of is that its conflicting with AEButton plus, which I used to map the VC to the volume button.
What is the different between this and Cyberon Voice Commander which comes bundled with my THD?
Hi,
I am using Dutty Extreme 2.1, everything seems to work apart from it not reading my e-mails or SMS messages out??
Is it suppose to do this and how can I get it working?
Thanks
EDIT:
Having trouble keeping the program focusing, so does not work yet.
It's a basic program which makes sure the display doesn't timeout while TomTom is running. Devices such as the HTC Maple and the HTC Excalibur doesn't support this function natively.
I have only tested it on my HTC Maple and it works fine. The default path to TomTom is \Storage Card\Program Files\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe
It comes with two programs, one is for launching TomTom and the other one is to change the default path. I suggest copying the files into your TomTom folder, but it doesn't matter. Remember to create a shortcut to the launcher and add it to your startmenu for easy access.
It could work on the HTC Excalibur but I haven't tested yet, so If someone could test and reply to this thread, that would be great.
Hmm?!? I've been using WinMo for quite some years, since Qtek S200 and also serveral different versions of TomTom, 5 6 and 7, and I never, but never saw my pda going timeout due to TomTom...

Your right, I've used the HTC Universal and that work fine for TomTom. But with phones such as the HTC Excalibur and now my phone the HTC Maple, the TomTom times out. So the problem probably vary with different phones and maybe even different TomTom version.

Have you tried using this program with Garmin as well? Even though it says its for tomtom it could be used for other programs.
If it doesn't work its probably because your device has a different pvDevice name than my HTC Maple. The pvDevice name is needed to access the power functions on the phone (Mine is BKL1: ). What is your device name? I could check the pvDevice name and update the program to work with your phone and my phone

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am currently using my old iMate JasJam (runs wm6.1) as the GPS chip on my HD2 died. It is - hopefully - being repaired as we speak. However, as I am off to the Czech Republic in a week for a holiday I may have to use it instead. Nothing worse than having to restart the phone every 5 min as you are walking around trying to see the sights.
Don't know what "pvDevice name" is or where to find it. Under Device settings in wm6.1 it says my model no is Herm100 and Platform is PocketPC using CRCs rom version r13.5 but I'm guessing that's not what you are referring to.
I will try just installing it and see what happens. Any further help would be greatly appreciated as this app would be brilliant.
Edit: 1: Just edited the "Save TomTom.exe path" file to point the Tom Tom Navigator launcher to Garmin instead. This has worked to launch Garmin instead of Tom Tom but it still cuts out after a few minutes. I also have S2U2 running so I will add Garmin to the Exceptional Exe list on that and see if that helps.
Edit: 2: Still turned itself even after adding to S2U2 Exceptional Exe's!

Im really sorry. I just did a full test today and It seems even I can't get it working . The screen stays on but it loses focus after a while. I'll start working on it now!
When you say "cuts out after a few minutes" is that the display turning off? Or just Garmin losing focus?
Nothing to apologise for - just to have someone develop such an app and make it available for free is a privilege - wish I had the knowledge and skills to do it.
To answer your question, the screen turns off - I have to press the screen-on button at the side of the jasjam, then navigate to the Garmin program launch icon and press it. The program comes back up to where it left off so I guess it must still be running in the background. Of course, when I am on external power this is not a problem - it keeps running. OK in the car but not much good when walking around.
I have noticed that in System/Backlight settings the screen is set to turn off after 5min when on Battery Power so I have unchecked this option, ie screen shouldn't ever turn off. This seems to be working; however, when Garmin is turned off I then have to remember to reset the backlight-off timeout otherwise I'll quickly have a flat battery.
Nowhere near as elegant as your app promises to be.
Have had Garmin running for past 10 min while I have been typing/composing this reply and it hasn't dropped out ..... yet.
What do you mean by "losing focus"
Further to above, I have had Garmin running non-stop since the above post - 30 min - so unchecking the "turn off screen backlight" seems to have done the trick. Now I just have to go through the nausea of manually checking it again in he system properties.
Thanks for your assistance.

Its just like your desktop, when you are doing something in a window, be it typing, mouse clicking etc, you are focused to that window. But as soon as you click another window your focus changes to that window. So whats happening with this program is its focused on TomTom for around 30s but then it is losing focus to something in the background. Nothing visually happens on the screen, but as soon as I press a key it switches to the background.
It sounds like even the backlight doesn't stay on for you...
Hopefully I can figure this problem out by soon, when I do, ill post
For your info, I have two settings that seem to be relevant both related to Battery Power:
1. Settings>System>backlight>battery power> uncheck "turnoff backlight if device not used for ..."
2. Settings>System>power>advanced> on battery power> uncheck "turnoff device if device not used for ..."
When the Garmin first turned itself off I noted that "1" was checked and set to 5 minutes and "2" was checked and set to 2 minutes. 2 minutes seemed to be the time it took before the phone/screen turned itself off. Once I unchecked "1" the setting @ "2" was irrelevant.
Re loss of focus - no, the screen went blank. When I pressed the power on button for the screen the "today" screen came back up. I then pressed the program launcher>Garmin and Garmin resumed where it had left off.
Hope this helps. Regards Ross
Just a heads up.
