wifi problems - HTC Excalibur

I don't understand what is wrong with my phone.
When i enable wifi, my phone connects to the network and then the phone turns off. Sometimes it makes it to internet explorer and then it turns off.
I dont understand, calls work, music works, the phone stays on. but when i enable wifi, the phone just shuts off.
what could be the problem.

First I would try different roms (kavana, rose, official, etc) and see if it's a software problem.
If all the different roms has the same problem then it might be your battery. Put the battery on a flat surface and spin it. If it spins then the battery is bad.

way to mock a guy that is having problems...or maybe not mocking but lack of help....I have the same problem with every single rom I have tried...even back to official....wifi "driver is not loaded" i've tried everything....I was putting 6.1 rom on a friends dash, I have it on my shadow and it didn't break my wifi, but I can't get it to work on the dash....i'm glad i switched to the G1....i would imagine I just need to find a regestry string or some cab file to enable the wifi driver...I can't get the wifiinit.exe thing to work...IDK anymore..i wanna give up and give it back to him and be like..hope you didn't like the wifi feature...

If you can connect via wi-fi then it shuts of when open up IE or even just connected via wi-fi the chances are your battery is cuput as the phone will use more mA when using wi-fi.

How am I mocking him? Dash is known for having battery issues that shuts off the phone randomly. Most of the time it's because the battery is dying or bloated. If it's bloated then you'll be able to spin it on a flat surface.

The whole spinning thing now makes sense, it just sound crazy.....sorry about that....I think I need to start a new thread on my problem...I got a new wifiinit.exe and everything and still no wifi...

I didn't even realise different people lol

thats what mine kept doing..it is in fact the battery. when mine first started doing it, i took a volt meter to the battery and got very inconsistent readings. when i replaced that battery and tested the new one, it was very consistent. this happened to me 3 times and i finally threw the excalibur in the crap box and got a new phone.
the problem only happens when a load is put on the phone..such as wifi. it will idle fine, but even still, the battery life will suck and most likely your battery meter on the phone wont be accurate.

could be a memory issue. How much free memory do you have?

Artemis crashes - battery problem?

Hi,
My Artemis is running Meschle's Touch 4.02 WWE for a long time now.
A couple of months ago it started to crash, apparently randomly. It started after I installed auto-hibernate, but this could be a coincidence.
What happens most of the time is that the screen is turning black (fades away), starting from the bottom. Sometimes it just gets stuck on the home or other window or it soft resets automatically. I also got twice a white screen that said: 'reset due to sudden power loss'. Soft resets sometimes work, sometimes it gets stuck on the boot screen. I did several hard-resets with no luck.
I am trying for a long time to figure out a pattern. Maybe it has to do with the radio consuming too much power? Upgraded to 03.21.90: same problem.
Last two crashes happened while trying to start Opera mini.
After a crash the clock is wrong (the time of the crash the clock stopped).
It seems to happen more often while charging.
I've changed the battery: it seemed to be better for a while (two weeks) but then it started again.
I've disabled everything, leaving only the phone (no data, no HTC home, ....) but still the phone crashes from time to time (sometimes every hour, sometimes every 5 mins, .....).
Battery status indicates some weird things too: after charging up to i.e. 35% then soft reset batt status indicated 58%...or batt status is 30% then 2 mins later status is 2%. The OMAP function is turned off, because sometimes while booting the cpu is stuck on a very low frequency (screen flickering, very slow boot, ...).
I've tried to flash with another rom (original HTC) but I get: 'update utility not for this device' or something similar. I've tried several RUU's en always USPL.
Does any of this make sense to anyone? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I have exactly the same problem. Think solved from 2 days. Changed the SD card i have 2 one 2 gigs and one 1 gigs the problem was with the 2 gigs card. Try to backup your data and format the card.

Thx, I'll try that. However, even when the sd card is removed the crashes occur.
Just had another crash....connected via usb to my pc: after 5 secs screen faded to black. I had to soft reset. After that some 'invisible window' was blocking the start menu. Closed it (via the close button top right) and got the start menu again. Re-connected to usb and is ok until now....
I also see 173mA of drain.
I had the same problem.............and i change back to the original swedish wm6 rom and it was better for a couple of days, then got worse started to freze fade out until one day it "died" now i can only get into bootloader but cant boot any roms not the original swedish rom (wm6) or any other rom, in boot loader it only says IPL 3.13.0001 SPL 3.13.0001 no gsm or other stuff but when conected to USB it says usb, I tried the SD flash to but no good so my sugestion it that u see to that ur device is "open spl" if it take the same route that mine did.
(i change to a brand new battery when the problem where starting but taht didnt help.....)
I guess now as i understand it my only hope is to find the original shiped rom wm 5 swedish rom?! and try if that will flash onto my device.
i hope u dont get the same problem as me.
Only problems, no solutions...
Mine (p3300; Black&Blue v5) got a new Battery, new SD-Card. Did´nt help. I removed the SD, removed SIM, loaded the battery, then turned it on again and from now on it´s sometimes booting, sometimes not. If it´s booted up (after long time lying with removed battery) it doesn´t live long enough to flash it with another (old) rom.
Now it´s lying next to me, with all this expensive accesoires, doesn´t talk to me and say what the problem is. My Provider called me and asked if I want a new one.
Again HTC? I love the functions of WM...
I have the same problem with my Dopod M700 (Love)
But mine doesn't freeze it just auto soft reset itself... i don't know whats going on... somebody please help.
Changing to different ROM doesn't solve the problems... put back the original factory ROM also doesn't help.
Here still the same problem.
I've upgraded the radio to 03.21.90: now WIFI isn't working anymore and the phone still 'crashes'. I'll change it to 03.18.90 and see what happens.
I've emptied the battery several times (until bootloader switches off) and recharged with the original AC adapter. Did a hard reset on battery 100%: problem remains.
There are several threads with the same problem. I didn't find an answer, exept maybe to replace the motherboard.
I really wonder if there's anyone who knows what is causing the problem.
It could be the graphics card (screen fading) or the battery/charge chip...no idea.
I've also noticed that when a crash occurs, it often takes some time until it boots again, as if the Artemis needs to 'cool down'.

I'm having exactly the same problem which happened after I upgrade from Artemis love 32 to 33.
I have tried everything mentioned here, changed th Rom 5 times, went back to the Ship Rom, but the system keep on crashing. This is the second time this is happening to my Artemis. The solution at the first time was replacing the motherboard and nothing else, as it has worked fine after that.
I posted my problem in another thread here but no solution yet. Four days back and after I got enough with it, I took my Artemis to the HTC work shop and they told me that they couldn't find the reason for the crash, and the only way to solve the problem is to replace the motherboard which will cost me too much.
Strange it happens to several phones, and more or less in the same way.
I've changed my Rom to B&B 5.0 now. Still same problem.
Wifi isn't working at all anymore: tried several radio versions, none brings back the wifi. Is this the end of my Artemis?
Me 2
Jup it happened to mine too, I returned it to the shop and when they returned it they said that they had replaced something but they couldn't tell me what It worked for a couple of months but now the same problem so it's back at the shop again... (luckily i had 2 years of warranty) So i guess it's not really a software problem.

I hope u really try to get them to awnser what they change this time and then u can tell us? who knows it might help to know that.
So...installed B&B 5.0 (thx Tom ).
I did several complete 'battery charging cycles'.
I formatted my SDHC card.
It seems to me that it crashes less now (only once yesterday, not yet today).
Wifi seems to be definitly gone.
It probably isn't SW-related, but why would it crash less now than before?
I think that the most probable cause would be the chip that handles the battery status.
Let's hope that the chip somehow got resetted with the charging cycles.
No luck....it crashed all the time yesterday.
It seems that it happens more often when it is in my pocket (temperature related?).
When it lies on the cupboard it seems that it stays ok...again very strange.
Also while charging the battery status was 48%. I removed the charger and the status jumped to 100% :s.
Does anyone know how much it costs to have the MB replaced?
MDA Compact III
Hi!
I had the same promlem with my MDA Compact III!
I think it's a hardware problem. I tried so many roms, original, and cooked too... change the battery, clean the motherboard, but didn't help.
I was nervous, take out the battery for 5sec then reinstall it and took it in the refrigerator (NOT IN THE FREEZER!!!) for about 10minutes!
The result: don't crash about 1 hour!
So i took it back for 1day. And now, it works 2weeks continously, with no crash.
But unfortunately the battery (also the new one) holds the charge only 1day.

Same problem here. I called HTC, they picked up my device, replaced the inside (motherboard) I guess because my device has a different IMEI number now. Very quick service, within one week my device was at my desk again.
I had similar problems.
had my HTC repaired (new MB)
problems remained the same.
after two repairs I received a new device and even that did not solve my problems.
Up till I bought a new battery
now he is working perfect again!
Hi i have the same problem as all of you. But is there really no solution to this problem except for sending it up to HTC and let the **** be replaced?
I also have the exprience that when its in my pocket is crashes also directly. but when it's just lying on the table nothing happens.
It is now lying there for 2 days without crashing.
i flashed it back to the original ROM. but still crashes after i put it in my pocket.
when i reset it (i cannot turn it normal on with the on button) it turns back on and starts normaly. i can use it now aslong as i don't put it in my pocket.
Please will some-one help find a solution for fixen it what causes these problems.
Many thanks in Advanced Fill

just get a new battery and it hopefully will do...it solved my problems...first time i hat the issue....right now i'm having it again...and it seems like the battery
you say it stays like that or 2 days...try running some heavy apps like igo or something other which is memory and battery consuming..it will probably crash..if it does...i'm 95% sure it's the battery

Exactly my case!!!
I am fed up of being consistently taking my battery out or soft reseting. If it stays over the table quiet, it's ok. The moment it goes into my pocket...

Thanks for replying, it seems that the problem has fixed itself. i put it in the original charger for about 3 or 4 days. it still crashed a couple times just reset with the charger connected put it back. i now just disconnect it from changer (2 days) (after 3 or 4 days in the charger) without any crash. runned tomtom for couple or houres?
i also turned the phone function off and removed the simcard.
hopefully it will keep running and then i gonna try to put my simcard back in.
Thanks

Ok it crashed already again

dash contstantly freezes

I know it's not a battery issue I have two that I bought at different times and it does this with both of them. The phone just keeps freezing no matter what rom I put on it. I've tried the default t-mobile 6.0 and all the custom roms from here. Here's what's happening, I don't touch the phone for a few days, leave it off and everything. When I turn it on it boots up fine, let it sit for a few hours to make sure it's working and as soon as I start doing things on it, the device slows down then freezes. I've tried overclocking the cpu a little just to speed it up but it doesn't help. So once it freezes I pull the battery and try to turn it back on but it freezes on the windows screen, the only way to get it to boot normally is a hard reset, which then it only lasts for a few hours. Any ideas? Is it completely shot at this point?
Than if it is not a battery problem than all I can think of is that there is a hardware problem.
Memory card it sounds like. Take it out and see if it works normally if so go get a new one. Flash memory cards are great but they dont last forever
Oh I would have never thought it would be a memory card issue... but hey that could be the case.
Similar Problem
My Dash has had 6.1 then I went back to 6.0 after having this problem:
Initially this would occur when I would try to access the internet, email, etc. it would just shut down. Now the problem occurs when in a call as well. The Dash shuts down. I would try to reboot but it reads my battery as dead. I tried different batteries, same problem. THe only way to reboot is to plug into recharge. It will reboot but still reads the battery as 0%. When I reboot on power after the initial reboot, it reads the battery as full again. I can keep the Dash on for awhile but, when receiving a call or when it tries to get email (not All the time, just most of the time) it shuts down again.
I took the phone to a repair shop and they replaced the circuit board but it still did the same thing. After reading this thread, the constant is the memory card. Could this be the problem?
Maybe, but it does sound a lot like a situation I had just a lil while back. I could feel the battery getting hot during use and have to leave my dash plugged in all the time. If I unplugged it the battery would die fast and it's prompt me to shut down. I end up testing a lot of things and found that after I removed OMAPClock from the ROM the problem went away. Now you say you went back to 6.0 after having this problem, did you go with one that had OMAP or install it seperately? Since I removed it I haven't had any problems. I still have the ROM I made to get rid of it. It's Rose 1.6 by Ricky & Stylez, only change is I removed OMAPClock from it. Let me know if you want to try it, I'll just need to upload it somewhere...
OMAP
Sure, at this point, I am wanting to have my DASH back! The problem right now is getting the laptop to recognize it and sync again after all the stuff that the shop did. It is not being recognized after their reflash
To get your laptop to recognize it, try this. With your Dash turned off and unplugged, hold down the camera button then plug in the sync cable. The Dash should load the Blue/Green/Red Boat Loader screen. You should then be able to reflash it with an Official ROM.
My Edited version of the Rose ROM 1.6 by Ricky and Stylez is here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mhm2t5yxqwm
This is to flash back to the T-Mobile Radio which i am also using:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?motamjqzhov
This is the T-Mobile Dash WM6.0 Official ROM:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?tzmyujnywy0
Flash the ROM first, than flash the Radio.
Not recognizing the USB now
I think that the shop didn't connect something, it is not recognizing the USB now. It will charge but not sync or flash the phone.
I took the dash back to the shop to fix their fixing Hopefully, it will sync when I get it back (and they don't try to charge me for the repair!)
Is it possible that the problem is caused by a faulty SIM card? When I sync it, I will see if the problem persists after removing the memory stick.
The simple things are usually the correct things. memory cards cause all sorts of issues, Removing it is simple enough of a way to tell if it is the cause.
OMAP will drain your battery if you let it run all of the time, and the battery will get hot (as well as the processor) from over use. Simply turning off the over clocking when you dont need it solves that problem.
My bet is it is the Memory card, that would also explain the inability to use the USB sync, Windows first looks to see if you are simply plugging in a USB device, checks to see if it is / has a memory card then in the case of syncing (WM) it loads active sync or mobile center if it detects a compatable OS. If your memory card is bad Windows may never ever get past the memory card check and just sit there.
It's not my memory card, I've removed it and even tried a few different ones I had and keeps doing the same thing. I'm thinking hardware related and was actually looking into getting one with a busted screen off ebay or something to put my screen into.

Is this a common prob with the BA??

When you turn off the phone option, it will turn on again if its done within 5mins, but it wont turn back on if you leave it off for lets say 30mins. You need to soft reset it for the phone signal to be enabled again.
Is this a common prob with the BA and is there anyway to fix it, Im using wm6. Also enabling the wifi conn takes quite a few attempts after a soft reset.
Hi,
for Wifi, I'm also experiencing the same thing when activate wifi via comm manager.
I thought it may be the ROM that is unstable or have some bugs. I'm myself using WM 6.1 made by xplode.
May be you can try to activate wifi via Start->Settings->Connections->Wifi
If I activate wifi via Start->Settings and so on, I didnt need to do soft reset, the wifi just run fine. Try it. Hope it helps
it seems like a battery problem. i had that problem before, it got fixed when i bought a new battery.
I was thinking that it may be a batt prob.
Yes both are commonly problems
i had both from wifi and softreset with that stupid button and the phone off on... jajaja don t worry is normal to our old darling...
Selling a few batteries if your interested.

totally stuck, but not bricked. big problem w/ htc rom update

i Download the HTC Fuze ROM Update- Version 5.11.502.2 WWE
after i flashed it and booted it, initial setup was taking place... it said it was setting up touchFLO. everything looked good.
until...
it just rebooted!
and it keeps cycling that way. it never gets to load windows.
i have read that other people have been having trouble with touchflo after the update... but now i cant even get windows to load.
ive been trying to find solution all day. about 15 hours. i cant even flash another rom into it. i cannot hard spl. anyone?
try hold volume down + softreset, connect usb, then install stock rom (original rom)
Do u have a Fuze or a Diamond??
Fuze roms are for Fuze devices, Diamond roms are for Diamond devices only.
And you´re in the Diamond section.
You should check that.
i cannot find the original stock rom. htc.com does not have it. i also tried searching. there was a post in which a guy had the same problem. he was directed to a S.E.A. WWE ROM. i also downloaded it and gave it a try but i got an "invalid vendor id" error. i think that means i must hard spl. but i CANT. it hangs at 0%. and i cant sspl manual. cuz i cnt even boot into an OS.
yea, i have a FUZE. i am aware that fuze roms are for fuze devices and diamond roms are for diamond devices. since i have not been successful in flashing my fuze with stock OR updated rom from htc (mainly since i cannot find the stock rom,) i am trying to flash it with ANY compatible rom.. i just need this phone working at LEAST so i can boot to an Operating system.
i am stil searching and searching for a stock rom for this fuze.... because that seems like it is my only sure bet. if anyone already knows or can point me in another direction, that would be great. i will be contacting htc rightnow.
I do not know if this was your problem, but I realized that whenever I try to flash a new rom with usb devices connected on pc, the process stops. my luck that I did before hardspl

hi
hi did you check the wiki? http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs has all the stock roms for xdas, this link is for the touch pro, fuze raphael whichever >.>.
yes, i did check the wiki.. for each of the att roms, it says i need spl 1.90. i have the stock spl 5.10. i dont think i can flash those roms. i have been running thru so many threads, i am just about overwhelmed
marcolero, thanks for those links. it looks like that is what im looking for (http://rapidshare.com/files/157242627/RUU_Raphael_Cingular_US_.exe)
sounds like thats it. thanks. i will try that now.
good luck, hope it works!
it worked. thanks alot
but it did not solve my initial problem... the reason why i flashed it in the first place.
my htc fuze did NOT resume from standby. this problem started suddenly one day. after the backlight dims after 30 sec, and then the lcd turns off after 1 min, pressing the power button did not wake my phone up. i was, however, able to turn the volume up and down, and heard the notification sounds.
since i could not manually hard reset my phone (the reset button did not work when pressed with my stylus) i decided to update my phone with the rom provided by htc website.
flashing was successful, but my phone kept rebooting before it loaded windows.
so now i had another problem. i couldnt even hard spl, or load any other rom. but thankfully, after much confusion and help from you guys, i found the stock fuze rom
after i flashed my phone with the rom you guys provided, i still had the problem in which my phone would not wake up after standby.
it turned out that getting a new sim card fixed my problem.
kinda makes sense... well, somehow... because i read that another guy in this forum solved HIS problem by messing with the phone settings. (choosing gsm or 3g instead of auto)
i wonder if i should make another thread for this problem and its solution. bah....
i wonder how many people have sent in their phone for repair when the solution was as simple as this. i myself, thought my lcd was damaged. becuase my phone got wet couple months ago and smudged the screen. on top of that, this phone was bought refurbished. heh... what a dilema.
thanks all
Hi that was me that solved my Standby of Death problem by changing phone band option from AUTO to 3G only (also works if set 2G only from auto)...
Its good to hear that you also solved your Standby of Death problem but by changing SIM, this doesn't surprise me, did you also change provider or was it just a faulty sim?
I don't think a change of SIM would benefit me as I had the problem with my old SIM (I don't think my SIM is faulty per se not if they are all like that) besides changing the band setting from auto to either 3G only or 2G only works for me and I'm happy with that. If I didn't have a working solution I would def try changing SIM however and I don't want to discourage doing that.
Also I would only get the Standby of Death 2-3 times a week which coinceded with being in a weak 3G area (where the phone might auto switch bands) it didn't happen as often as you had it. The problem is def connected to the SIM card.
Obviously everything I've written above only applies to those who have the Standby of Death because of the SIM or settings which impact the SIM, to rule out a software cause are best to start with a hard reset.

Exclamation Mark next to Radio Signal - Not refreshing and searching

Right, just recently, the phone has been playing up. When I have radio signal, you can see the strength bars go up and down, no problem. However, when I go from a good signal area into a bad one, the radio does not keep searching for a signal, instead, I just get and exclamation mark. This still continues even when I go into a good signal area.
Doesn't matter if the phone is on or in sleep mode. now, my understanding is, if the phone is in sleep mode and looses signal, when you press any key to wake the device, the radio should automatically search for a signal. Nope, nothing. Only thing that works is either turning it off and on again or putting the phone into airplane mode and back again.
So, what whould cause this and can someone explain how the radio works, ie signal searching for how long etc.
Thanks!
Forgot to add, sometimes, it will do this and actually show the data symbol next to it.
Had the exclamation point yesterday after installing Office 2010 and to fix it I had to hard reset the phone. Yes, reload and reinstall everything onto the phone again. It was painful but interestingly enough the phone works better than before. Go figure. Oh, and I was able to get Office 2010 loaded onto the phone without a problem.

That's a bit of a strange one, but I guess with windows mobile, nothing should be unexpected! Very, very frustrating though. I have a sneaky feeling that it is something to do with RAM Cleaners but I'll probably find that's a load of old crap.
Well, I have managed to do a little more reseach on this and I could find very little on the subject. Had a flick through the manual and it says that the symbol means no phone service. Ok, well, what causes that? I couldn't find a good explaination on this. Very annoying as the radio doesn't 'refresh' itself to search for a signal again - is this normal?
I did find that one chap had issues with his onmia similar to my issue and he eventually discovered that if he flashed his ROM with the sim card in, he didn't suffer with this issue. Now, I know it's not a good idea to do this however, I task29'd with it in adn then flashed with it in, we'll see what happens. I have left the phone with nothing else on it.
I did search on here and could onely find one real incident where this had happened, to resolve it, the guy reverted back to a really old radio which is something I didn't want to do.
My current radio is 4.49.25.91 and have tried the latest one 4.49.25.77 which I probably didn't give enough of a chance and also reverted back to 4.49.25.17 which iirc, suffered the same problem.
Now, I have a few questions;
1. What controls the radio for signal searching and are there registry setting for this?
2. What governs the amount of times the radio keeps searching for a signal and for how long before it gives up?
3. Am I wasting my time as know one knows?
Hmmm this is interesting, whilst my issue is the same as the initial issue that chap had, i have not had any settings pushed from my provider. However, I did install Resco 2010 and although I had removed it, it was still showing un in wmdc, this coud possibly be my issue. May be time to completely wipe the laptop and start again just to make sure. I guess you could say why bother, but it's starting to really piss me off.
Right, have done a little more research.
To rule out all potential issues one by one, I formatted the laptop and started again. Re-flashed the ROM. All seems to be ok, not switched the phone off since saturday night. Found a signal dead spot at home, yep, radio searches for the signal. Me thinking everything's ok.
Oh, no. On the way home from work and it does exactly the same thing, straight into the exclamation mark 'no phone service' and only way out of it is to go into airport mode and back again.
However, thought I'd test a little more, went to local supermarket where I definitely got zero signal. Go in, signal drops, phone keeps searching, and does so for over 5 mins. Hmmmm. Put the phone into airport mode and then back on again. Hmmm, phone goes into the signal search and no phone service cycle. Swaps between the 2 every 15-20 seconds or so. Hmmmmmm.
Only thing I can think of is that the phone hasn't been switched off for several hours, say, 48hrs, then it doesn't search and refresh... Interestingly enough, it does it at exactly the same point everytime on my way home from work....
Any assistance, suggestions and comments most welcome.
This is soooooooooooooo frustrating as my TP has no issuse whatsover ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You may want to change the radio

Thanks chap, have already gone one radio forward and one back from the current one and had exactly the same issue. Didn't want to go to far back incase there is anything an older radio is missing out of from RILphone etc. Which could well be nothing at all! lol.
