Has anyone else experienced this problem with their P3300?
Unpredictably, the screen on my P3300 will fail to come back on after I have shut the device off with the power button. I know the device is on because the hardware buttons light up when pressed, but the screen appears almost completely dark and won't come back on when tapped. The only way to get the screen back to normal function is to get to the backlight settings and adjust them. This seems to return the device to normal function...until it randomly happens again. I'm seeing this about two or three times a day.
At first, I thought I needed to soft reset - and this worked - I then just went to the backlight settings to modify them and got back normal function for a while. The strange thing was that after the screen issue and the soft reset, my backlight settings for battery power were on "brightest" - and they wern't there before the issue popped up.
Now I have a WA2 shortcut on my top bar that goes to backlight settings. I know approximately where it is on the screen, so when the issue pops up and the screen is pitch dark, I can tap in that general area and get to backlight settings. The screen is still dark, but I can just make out the backlight slider enough to adjust it from there and avoid the soft reset.
So, basically, it seems as though my backlight settings are randomly resetting themselves to the lowest setting every once in a while after power off. Anybody else with an Artemis seeing this? Seems a little similar to the first of the three questions in this thread, but not exactly the same:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281763
Any help or empathy would be appreciated!
I've had that, too. I assume the program for the allocation of the soft keys has a bug. You had to HARD RESET, and dont change the soft keys any more.
I've read some more about this issue and it seems it is a WM5 bug that is seen across devices. I guess I can hope they will address it at some point in a future ROM release. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Sleep Mode
What you are describing sounds like sleep mode
" Quickly pressing the POWER button turns off the display temporarily and switches your device to sleep mode. Sleep mode suspends your device to a low power state while the display is off in order to save battery power "

(Taken from MDAC3 Manual)
Pressing the power button again should bring it out of Sleep Mode. If it is getting stuck then it is possibly a bug affecting the sleep mode.
Hi!
Any news on this issue? My phone is acting just like described in this thread (and no, this is not standby/sleep mode)

This only hapen to me after a soft reset. And the only way i found to "fix" the problem was after every soft reset going to Settings>Backlight move the brightness bar up and down. And after that it never blocks the light again until the next soft reset. Sometimes when connected to usb it blocks too but if you always go to the backlight, befor e the light goes off, and move the bar it wont block anymore...Its not a real solution but the only way i found...

Yeah, that is all I am doing too. Hopefully HTC is noticing this problem too and a future ROM release will alleviate the problem. Perhaps a Crossbow upgrade someday????
I have the same problem. I found out that it happens when PhoneAlarm switches my profile from work to home.
Solution!
Check this thread out:
http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?topic=3324.0
As stated above, looks like PhoneAlarm is the culprit. I use it and I would bet that everyone posting in this thread does too. In fact, Bruce from PocketMax has even listed the Artemis Backlight corruption issue as a fixed item in his latest release, v1.57 available here:
http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
Once you download and install, make sure to go the the backlight % setting in each of your profiles and select "Leave Unchanged". This alleviates the problem. My Artemis no longer goes blank without backlight slider manipulation after a soft reset!!! One less thing to worry about!
I had the same problem ... I try your solution and make a feed back
I too have had this problem and have PA installed - I'll also apply the solution and report findings . . thanks for sharing.
Hi!
I installed the PA 1.57 upgrade, but it did not help... But it seems like the backlight settings on the Artemis device is not standard, so I uninstalled Spb GPSR monitor (who has a backlight setting option), and then the problem disappeared.
PK
Looks like any program you have installed with a backlight setting option needs to be adjusted not to change the backlight settings in order for things to work properly for the time being. I'm sure that software developers will adjust to this new device soon just as PA has. Thanks for the feedback!
hi,
i have PA 1.58 (build 100), and the reminders for missed calls not work properly. the orange led is blinking, but the vibration and the sound are
not played (i have set the alarm reminder to 1 x 5 min x endless)...
please, test and indicate to me if this function works on your artemis...
the reminders for sms works fine.
thank's

In other forums they have this 'problem' too, and all of these people had SPB Pocket Plus installed. My guess is that it is a backlight setting in that program. You can temporarily get the backlight back on by connecting the phone to the pc through ActiveSync, and change the settings accordingly.
Hard- or softresets shouldn't be necessary to solve this.
@phonealarm users,
you can fix the unserious backlight bug if you are using at least v.1.57 or higher and set all backlight settings (battery and pluged) in used profiles to the option < LEAVE UNCHANGED >

happy new year!
Ok! so i am not alone! a couple of times i did face this situation. the screen doesnt come up, but the device is on, and i am able to see a slight silhoute of the icons, very very light. and i have to do a softreset to get it back on.

Yep, that´s it! In every app offering different profiles (like PocketZenPhone, PA, etc.) Settings for Backlight (including Minutes to switch off) must be exactly the same in each profile! Maybe <Leave unchanged> will work, too!

Hey Guys,
We appreciate the posts about Phone Alarm, but if you just read this entire thread before posting you would have seen that this is old news and this issue was resolved in post #9!
Thanks anyway!
Oh, and Happy New Year as well!
hi,
please, tell me if pa reminders for sms and missed calls work fine in your p3300.
i have installed spb pocket plus and pa and the reminders for pa not work now.
please, if this combination works for you, explaine your config settings.

The "Straight Talk" Function not working anymore
I have checked all the setting and make sure the function is enabled. I have also tried to hard reset the device and the "Straight Talk" Function works fine again, after I installed the top bar, Bluetooth tweak etc... the "Straight Talk" Function not working anymore.
Any idea how to solve this? Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks a lot
Other than the obvious: hard reset AND install those tweaks one by one to see which one breaks the Straight Talk feature, no ideas.
On a related note, it would be nice to start a HTC TP2 thread here, where people would list their tweaks AND what things those tweaks break.
That would save a lot of duplicate debugging efforts by readers here.
We could just share in one place what tweaks work and which ones break the phone's features.
I think reading somewhere here said that use Bluetooth tweak will disable speaker function. try with out BT tweak and then try after apply it to see if it is the case for you.
Gyrator 2 + Straight Talk = Fail
If you install Gyrator 2, its default setting is to hang-up calls when you turn the phone on its face. Be sure to disable the event 'Hang Up (Phone)', which nearly caught me out.
TP2 Doesn't Turn Speaker ON... when face down during calls

Is the G-Sensor Calibrated?
Is the surface perfectly flat? It doesn't work on my leg, but does on my desk
Dave
What Dave says, then if it still doesn't work:
Go to Phone Settings - scroll right to Advanced tab.
Tick 'Turn speaker on when device is placed face down during a call'.
If it's already ticked, untick and tick again, then reboot.
Also, as a side note, if you update your thread when you've solved it, that will help others who get the same problem in the future.
it doesn't work on my desk......and am sure it's activated from phone advance setting....
and regarding G-sensor.....it works perfectly!!!
Thanks for the heads up brynweb.

Any way to stop this.. I used the registry to stop it from waking up due to my magnetic case.. i have the notifications to make a noise and flash the led... i dont want it to come out of standby to tell me about an upcoming appt (the dismiss/snooze notice) cause i keep pocket running apps or pocket dialing my sense 2.5 front shortcuts!

Try this: Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event: Reminders > uncheck "Display message on screen."
I hope that solves the problem!
thanks! i will try that and get back to you
UPDATE: damn... this doesnt work... for "reminders" in settings/notifications i only have flash light, play sound, and vibrate selected and the screen/phone wakes up/resumes and if it had been in my pocket or whatever i'd be calling people.. any other ideas?

Sorry about that. I just noticed myself right now that my phone woke up for a reminder.
Hmm... I don't know, but I think you should get a working screenlocker. I use TouchLockPro (now you can use your zoombar as an unlock bar). I set it up so that when the screen wakes, the phone instantly locks.
If you decide to use TouchLockPro, the settings are a little hard to understand (I followed the Settings instructions in the developer's website). If you need help with the settings, or if you want an example of my settings, feel free to PM me.
try this ..
warlock...thanks for that cab.. but it didnt work...at least not for calendar reminders.. i will test it on txt msgs as that would help as well
sumflipnol: thanks.. i guess i will have to look into screen locks.. its just annoying cause im fine with the "screen lock except for power button" behavior of winmo.. but if it could just stay asleep for the reminders (other than the sound/led/vibrate options) it'd be perfect
ill let you know if that locking program works out for me
hold down the end button
locks the screen wont but dial or open apps when the screen wakes up

I believe you're referring to the default Windows Mobile SmartLock (auto-lock). I have that on my phone, and it's not very reliable. My phone sometimes wakes up on my desk, and I notice that Sense2.5 is active (SmartLock obviously failed to auto-launch the WM screenlock). From my week-long experience with TouchLockPro, the screen locks immediately without that small lag, and it's very consistent.
There must be a way!
I'd like to ressurrect this thread to see if anyone has any further ideas.
I also prefer to just use the power-button method of putting my phone into standby rather than mess around with screen locks or anything.
I've disabled wake-up-on-SMS. But it still wakes up whenever there's a reminder for an appointment.
Surely there's a way to stop this behaviour!....
It's an open question, so far...
As many of you, I would like to disable the device wake up for reminders. Same as you, I just want the sound and / or light notification for them.
I've been searching WEB, all XDA forum and my phone registry but I haven't found anything useful for reminders, just for SMS.
The same issue has been posted in other places (for example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=615633) but there's no final answer yet.
Definitely, lock screen is not enough, because if the device wakes up and the screen turns on, it can keep on for a long time (caused by the screen being pressed because the phone movement inside the pocket) and battery drains very fast.
hello,
i have a problem with the sensor during call... when i move the phone away from my head, the display stays off, so that i can't stop the call (have to take out battery to stop call).
is there a workaround for that bug? i tried switching off "proximity sensor", but doesn't help... but also i want that feature
this is the only failure of cm7 that should be solved (in my opinion) to make it the best rom for defy
thanks in advance
SensorTest and plot app will see if the sensor is working
i've testet proximity sensor with an app called "phone tester"... this app shows, that proximitysensor recognizes, that i move near to the phone, but doesn't recognize if i move away from phone... i think this is an cm7-bug, because it works with original rom...
is there a workaround? is it possible to try another proximity-sensor-driver?
which is your cm7 version?
atm: nightly-build from 5.8.11, but it was also on rc1v2...
after a deep search in xda-forum i found a solution: i touched over the sensor with little pressure and now it works
but on stock i never had to touch it... it works always on stock and sometimes not on cm7 without touching the sensor... i am confused
You could try goto settings - Acessibility - "Power Button Ends Call".
Use power button to ends call which you don't need the display to turn on for ending a call.
thats a good idea! thank you!! ... btw: that option should be in "call settings" instead of accessibility... i think no one would expect it there
There's an option in Call Settings called "Always use proximity" which may be useful, and "also Keep screen awake".... both seem relevant to your problem. In Display settings there is also "In-accurate proximity" which I would suggest is enabled....
Sensor during call works on my CM7. For information, I've manual brightness, not auto... perhaps...
I have been considering getting Captivate Glide, but have a few questions: (I will be upgrading from the HTC Fuze)
1) Data - If you have a WIFI connection to the internet, will it use that as a primary connection instead of using the carriers network? Can you turn the carrier data usage off?
2) Alarm Clock - Will the alarm still sound even when phone is set to silent? Can you customize alarm tones?
3) Notifications - Can you customize txt message tones? Does the phone have a "vibrate & ring" type function?
4) Any hardware key re-mapping available for this phone yet? (Both hard keys and touch buttons)
5) Is it possible to disable the g-sensor? I only want the screen to rotate if I open the keyboard)
A. What options does Android have for manual screen rotation?
6) Many new phones have the feature that turns the screen off when it is face down or up against your face. Is is possible to disable that feature? I really hate the screen turning off when I use the phone in the dark while on a call. It makes it really hard to use the dial pad when it keeps turning off the screen.
7) Camera flash, can it be toggled without being in the camera app? (Using it for a flashlight?)
8) I'm sure it does, but does it have a voice recording feature?
9) Call recording - Can I have it record both ends of the conversation of a call?
10) Any apps available that will enable the phone to vibrate when touched?
That's all for now haha. I may think of more though.
I can answer a few of these:
1) Yes, wi-fi is used if available. The phone only connects to the cellular data network if no wireless network is connected. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a setting to disable connecting to the cellular data network, if that's what you mean.
2) Yes, alarms sound even if the phone is on silent. There are a number of preset tones you can choose from, and you can also use any sound file on your phone's storage (such as the SD card) as a tone.
3) Yes, you can customize text and notification tones. Also, you can set the phone to vibrate and ring.
4) Not sure. I don't think there's any built-in support for it.
5) Yes, you can disable automatic screen rotation through the settings. This way, it'll only change when you open the keyboard.
6) Yes, you can turn off the proximity sensor, which means the screen will stay on while on a call.
7) I don't know if there's a built-in feature to turn the flash on outside the camera, but there are plenty of Android market apps that can turn it on for use as a flashlight.
8) Yes, there is a voice recording feature.
9) I don't think there's any built-in support for that, but there may be 3rd party solutions.
10) By default, the phone will slightly vibrate when you touch any of the four LED buttons on the bottom of the phone (menu, home, back, search). There may be a way to have it vibrate in other situations, but I haven't explored that yet.
Hope this helps.
Awesome, that helps a lot! Thanks for the info. Pretty sure I will be getting this phone. Im fairly new to Android, so I will have a lot to learn!

Just to provide some insight, I have both the SGS2 and the Glide and I prefer the Glide to the SGS2 because it's just the right size for my palm and fits in my pockets neatly while the SGS2 feels too big for carrying around in my hands and pockets and needs to be clipped onto my belt and the hardware keyboard comes in handy for things like emulators and blocks of text.

Easiest answer is the same as another poster above, N1 Torch works just fine, I don't notice any difference in LED brightness between normal and overvolted settings.

Thank you.
Would the Alarms sound even if the phone is turned off?
If not, is that ROM-dependent or hardware dependent? Would a third-party app fix/solve this?

If phone is in sleep mode the alarm will still sound, if phone is off it is equivalent to having the battery removed, so no it will not sound the alarm if phone is off.
