New Skyfire Version is out .9 beta - HTC Excalibur

http://www.skyfire.com/
For a good review, I found:
http://www.wmexperts.com/skyfire-09-beta-released

still pretty slow. the only cool thing is being able to watch youtube + the facebook integration on the homescreen.otherwise i'll stick with opera mini

i love the look & feel of skyfire but it is so freakin' slow. i use iris as my default browser

its slow!!!!

yeah, i tried using this earlier. it's horribly slow. wow.

Not working well
I´ll stick to Opera Mini, it rocks!

Yep defo, can't beat Mini for speed and low data usage
With reagards to Skyfire think the older version is better.

I miss the old skyfire...
Skyfire .6 and .65 was what brought skyfire onto the scene... It was awesome. If .9 was their first beta it would have failed MISERABLY! It is so damn slow, and it constantly disconnects/connects. It pisses me the f off. I get like 2 pages to load decent when i first load it up, after that it just hangs. Their funding needs to be cutoff! Okay I'm done ranting.

Wow finally, they got their act together. Just downloaded it. Testing it out now for speed, looks, sound, etc, etc.
skyfire with wvga suport
looks good but abit disapointed that they havent used the accelerometer function like opera have. would be good to have so you can view videos better. besides thats why most of us get it for isnt it. for the flash support?
nice
I like it. with changescreen you can even rotate the app.
loads also pretty fast
It won't let me play megavideo.com without taking me to an advertisment.

X scope browser?

Ive been using this browser since I got the phone, and it is by FAR the best best browser ive used. Better than the standard browser, dolphin hd, skyfire easily. Its very fast and great to use. But has anyone noticed issues with this last update. It appears to be fine on reinstallation, but within a couple if hours it struggles to render pages and gets gradually worse slowing it down completely.? An uninstall and reinstall gets it back speedy again, but them it just repeats. I clear cache, etc exit and go back in, but it just sticks until I uninstall it. The writer has been great in getting back to me etc and had updated the browser many times improving it, but just want to know if anyone else had noticed this?

Sounds a bit crap to me. And it's still better than the Dophin one? In which way? I'm unlikely to ever pay for a browser, but i'd be interested to know why you think it's an improvement. Dolphin is really fast for me - hard to see how it can be much faster, to be honest. Bookmarks are fairly easy to use (except it's a pain to set the homepage - you have to cut and paste it into a sub-sub-sub menu, but you only have to do that once, so it's not a big deal).
This is better than dolphin hd because it (was) faster. Alot faster. Honestly it creamed along compared to dolphin. Also I like the pin zoom of x scope. You double tap the screen, then slide left or right to zoom in or out. Single handed zooming and holding the phone very handy. Download youtube videos (which I think still exists on xscope, but not on dolphin. Updates came in thick and fast and it was a great browser. It maybe still, but for some reason, its just slowed right down before stalling completely eventually. But I was trying to confirm if this was just me or my handset. My other browsers work fine load fine etc. connections good, just slowed right up for me.
I guess it can be perhaps abit complicated at first when you use it, but once your in, that thing was zippy as hell!
An update came through on this. And its fixed.
not sure what was up with it, but its back.
It's a good browser, but requires a payment = unappealing to most. It doesn't offer enough over the free browsers to make it appealing to the masses. It has its small niche though.
The single tap-slide zoom is an incredible usage idea. The browser does have other polishes on it too, no doubt.
I didn't have the issues you were having with it.

[Apps] Web Browsers

Hi all ,
I've noticed lately in the last week theres been a rush of updates on web browsers. Heres my short notes on them
Fennec :- Latest version isn't that bad compared to last release. Its quite stable now. Also it finally has auto updates so it will always be updated. At 11megs its quite large. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/m/alpha <--- Use your phones web browser
UC Web 7.2.2.5something :- Lets just say I'm very biased with this browser, It was my default on my winmo phone. Its fast, Got a crap load of options , the best one being night mode (I use it to save power as background is dark). The only bad thing is that its a Proxy based browser like Opera Mini so I would advise you not to use it for anything sensitive like banking. Other then that its hell fast.
Use your internal browser on phone and goto http://wap.ucweb.com
Skyfire 2.x : Not bad but I don't use flash or multimedia on my phone so I rarely ever use this. But it does look like its improved since I last used it 6 months ago on Winmo. Www.Skyfire.com or MARKET
Xscope 6.06 : This is my current default browser as Its small, fast and not a proxy browser. Best option for me in it is "LOAD NEW PAGES IN BACKGROUND" . Theres not much to say other then I love it. Get it from MARKET
Fennec is VERY laggy..

I'd recommend Dolphin HD. Not the quickest browser, but the most convinient to use. Easy gestures, great HD interface, background loading, addons, easy zoom, everything! Tried a bunch of other browsers, but I stick to that one.
you forgot to list opera mini and dolphine HD
my top choice goes to SkyFire,
2nd place opera mini
999999999999 place for Dolphin HD is the slowest browser available in the market right now
No i didn't They havn't been updated in the last week. Dolphin HD was updated yes but I've never been a fan of it. Opera Mini is ok but for some reason I hate it. I use Opera Desktop and want a decent Opera like on Winmo (opera 6.x?) not a proxy based P.O.S that was ment for nokia phones

I don't know why you say this, I have absulutely no problems with the speed. You might tried an older version? If it's indeed the slowest, it shouldn't be more than a few seconds behind. I'm using it every day. Let's say fudzilla.com loaded up in 10 sec. (just checked now)
The renamed Fennec (Firefox Now) is pretty nice and fast. Definatly something to keep out for

So far I've tried Opera Mini, Stock and xScope. I've liked xScope most of them all. I notice a lot of people here recommending SkyFire but not even mentioning xScope. Any particular reasons why?
Sooo..What's wrong with the stock browser? I find it to be good enough for me...
same here. i found that the stock browser works best for me.
Stock browser for the win!

Here I use Opera Mini and really enjoy it.

Today I learnt something nice, Xscope 6.06 saves bookmarks the exact same place as stock browser! so any widget/app that uses stock browser's bookmarks work fine like LauncherPro's new popups! SWEETTTT
UCWEB is very bad
i've tried dolphin hd and xScope, liked them on my nexus but on the galaxy they were not only slow but they also really slowed down the whole system and made it very unstable ....that was before i ran the lagfix.
That may not be the case after the lagfix but atm i am happy enough with the stock browser's limited features to risk sludging up the system again.
Talking of browsers, anyone know of a browser that lets you save the webpage to SD card for offline use?
My Nokia N95 had this as standard, and the iPhone has various 3rd party browsers offering this but so far not found any for android
Stock FTW !!! followed by skyfire...

Browsers

I have used numerous browsers since I got my first Droid in November of 2009. I have not really liked any of them. I think for my needs Miren and Dolphin HD were about the best for me. I settled on Dolphin HD and have been using it for two years with other new browsers for a week or so before going back to Dolphin. Lately I have been getting incomplete file downloads so I was on the prowl again.
I ran across an article on five best browsers for Android.
They mentioned a browser called "Boat" . It does not have a lot of bells and whistles but it has what I need and it has bee very stable on my devices as compared to Dolphin HD.
Give Boat browser a try and tell me what you think.
I will say this though, the standard browser is great and I think when Google Chrome gets the bugs worked out i will be another winner, even though it looks and acts like the standard browser.
seems pretty decent....i'll test it out this week...thanks for the heads up
I'm finding more out about the browser and it's functions. Like putting bookmarks in different folders. Scrolling up and down the screen with on screen controls etc.
I did a quick round up of web browsers for Android Headlines recently, and I quite liked boat, it didn't quite have what it takes to bear Chrome out of my daily routine but now, instead of going back and forth between that and dolphin its now chrome and the boat

It will be nice when chrome gets the glitches out. Of course it would be nice if firefox could make a decent mobile browser. I am not impressed with firefox's desktop version right now. It is very buggy.
Boat needs to say a bit more about it's features. I am finding them by accident and they make it easier to use.

Ive not been impressed with anything from Mozilla in years, the Desktop browser has lagged behind for ages now. It'd be nice to have another alternative to Chrome on mobile but, Firefox sucks for me, buggy, slow and looks like an alpha product.

Help with Internet browsing Tab S 10.5

I am looking for help with my SM-T800 and Web browsing in particular.
The problem is that it is slow and stutters when moving up and down a page. I find it outstanding that a tablet as new as this can be this bad. I have tried the stock, chrome, dolphin and UC browsers and out of all of them UC is the better one but still in my view really bad.
I'm on 4.4.2 with no OTA when I check for an update(I'm in the UK) so I guess the only option is to update through Odin but I want to see if this can be sorted out first.
I have disabled most of the stuff that I don't use and can without rooting it. I have tried a compleat wipe but still no better. I also have a Note 4 so I know about TW slowing things down but this is ridiculous.
Any help would be great and by the way I'm more used to using an ipad air 2
I have the same T800 and am in the UK, running stock 4.4.2 same as you, I use the built in chrome and it seems smooth as silk, what pages are you browing are they full of flash or photo.
Chrome has an data saver, it compresses the data to make it smaller so you use less, it keep it on, but you can turn it off, in the settings.
edit: just tried browing ebay for all the photo`s no problems at all scrolling up and down a massive page.

Well this is one of the sites that it bad along with android central. Chrome was probably the worst of the browsers. I have even tried AdBlock Plus.
Ok, I tried Android Central, it is stuttery while the page is loading, but once that is done it scrolls fine, do you have a slow connection and you are scrolling while the page is loading, i dont have any addblock on at all.
EDIT: I tried it in desktop mode and Android Central is very choppy and the pages take forever to load, I am going to give Dolphin browser a go.

I have around 150mbps so Internet speed is not a problem. Even if I wait for the page to load it stutters and jumps, very inconsistent scrolling. Even my old Surface 2 which is Windows RT blows it into the weeds for both speed and smoothness.
Ok, I never liked browsing the net on a tablet, i prefer using a notebook with a mouse, so maybe i am putting up with a lot of problems, pages do take longer to load on a tablet.
Have a look at a few Sam Tab S review video`s on youtube and see if they notice a problem. while using the browser.

I will have another look but for me the tab s is unusable.
Android Central is more of a problem than the S 10.5 browsers. That site loads slow with IE on my PC. TOO MANY ADS and it really is hosed up on a tablet as the text isn't formatted very well for a tablet. I can't even login because the menu uption for the store overlays the menu item for login!
Someone there needs to clean it up. You would figure they would want to attract the smart phone and tablet users. It's not going to happen with a mess like they have there.

Yeah I noticed even on my ipad air 2 that android central loads the page really slow as I'm scrolling up and down the page. To log into there I had to tap on the reply to a thread so that it would redirect me to the login.
I found this 2015 android browser review, now i just need to know what it means.

You should try to update to Lollipop via odin since this bug has been mostly fixed. Even XDA was a nightmare for me on KK but now it is smoother
Dag, if you want to put a browser to the test load that review page tinderbox put up a link to! I waited almost 4 minutes for it to load in IE 11!
It is the ads and stupid massive signatures that cause the scrolling issue. Ad blockers help here.
This site is terrible for it. I've used all the browsers and stock deals with it the best.
Turning off java script helps also, but then you can't log in. :sly:
Use the free xda app and things are much better. Use the premium and there's no ads and no lag at all.
If you are are experiencing issues with Google's Chrome browser try this.
Chrome Samsung support library
I will echo quite a few of the reviews and info I found online about it. I don't know what it is or what it does but it makes chrome perform much much smoother. Pages load faster, videos play quicker, more types of videos play, and overall the smoothness of browsing with chrome improves. Try it out, since it is an official google app it should not harm your tablet and it helped me.

It stopped my AdBlock after I downloaded it.
Good to know, I only use the plugin version of ad block in firefox and I only blacklist sites that do auto redirecting ads so I didn't know it could pr would do that.
Well as an update to this thread I went into a Samsung centre today and asked but I also tried one they had there and wow it was the same. They looked at mine and said that it was normal.
How this thing can be normal is beyond me, it only came out last year and it is like using something from 4 or 5 years ago. I couldn't use this thing as a tablet, okay I can get past how uncomfortable it is to hold because of the small bezels but the lag is sh!t. Surly to god I shouldn't have to move my finger 1-1.5 inches before the page starts to move.
Also things like the YouTube app, it keeps stopping the video with a "network error" message.
My other tablets are an ipad air 2, Surface 3 and a Surface 3 pro and my wife has a Surface 2 and they areally all smoother than this.

Might just be my next purchase. I'm kinda done with Android as a whole. Not one device I have that runs Android can come close to a Windows machine for usability. But I think I'm expecting too much so I'm not upset about it. I'll just use it for a bit longer and see what develops....

I'm the same I think. I just wanted an android tablet because I have a Note 4 and I will probably be getting the Note 5 when it comes out. My iPhone 6 is okay for private use but limited for work.
I'm not sure if I should get another android tablet or not but one thing for sure is that I won't be keeping this stuttering lagging thing.
It does look like a network problem with YouTube but I don't have any issues with it on any of my other devices. I never get lower than 130mbps and I have kept an eye on my WiFi signal and it never drops but not sure if it would show if it was a quick drop.

Wifi - might be RFI from some other wireless device in the area.... I have a set of wireless rear surround speakers. They gave my wifi a fit! They didn't keep me off the network but they put so much RF in the way that I could only see about 8mbps from speedtest.net. Once I figured out they were the problem, by simply disconnecting EVERYTHING that is wireless and turning them back on one at a time, I just changed the wifi channel on the router and the speaker transmitter so they were as far apart as I could get them in the spectrum. Now, I have 30mbps from speedtest!
