Upgrading Rom on Universal using Windows 7 - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro Software Upgrading

Here is what happened:
Problem
Downloaded a new rom, _HTC_UNIVERSAL20270__WM6.1_WWE_Vanilla_Edition_by_luca16thebig.
So I took out the simcard and the sd card and ran the update utility, it crashes everytime;
giving me the error RUU has stopped working.
My phone on the other hand is now stuck in bootloader mode. So I do a few searches and download a utility to exit bootloader mode, UNI_ExitBootloader and I run it and it gives me the error cannot find USB device. Here I tried every USB slot and different cables to no avail. I guess its compatibility issues, so I go to properties and play around with the compatibility settings with no joy.
Solution
Downloaded Virtualbox and installed xp with activesync 4.5, enabled the USB in Virtualbox and disabled USB connections in activesync. I tried plugging my phone in and the UNI_ExitBootloader utility still gave me the same error. By chance I tried all the USB slots on my laptop and the ones at the back work, aparently the utility doesn't work with usb hubs and thats whats in the front of my laptop.
Another tip don't use any of the stripped down versions of xp like microXP etc, you need the xp cd to install activesync.
Just thought I'd share my experience, I think some people are having the same problem in Vista although correct me if i'm wrong.

I thought you did not have to install ActiveSync to upgrade ...
(ActiveSync is especially forced down by not using (listening!) the USB, so why install it anyhow? Then you might try a cut off XP version)

I was able to upgrade ROM (not once) from WinXP - VMWARE on Linux (FC 7).
Radio upgrade was failing any time. (I think, that it can work on other OS's too)
Is there any WinXP Live disk, that supporting ROM flashing?

mtty
hi i think u have to do the procedure for rest the boot loader on ypuor ppc.
if u search in the forum mtty
maybe in the same folder of the luca16 the big shuld be that procedure for emegency
bye
serch serch and don't worry the ppc is not over

as for me, i upgrade rom successfully under windows 7 build 7000 x64, exactly the same way as in vista, but if anybody is interested i can post it here.

Please help w/ W7
Hi. Can you detail how you achieved on W7?

a bit more detail
I am getting a failure of the RUU. Therefore, I am unable to continue and update the ROM. Thanks in advance for assisting w/W7.

I failed upgrading RadioROm too in my OSX 10.5.6 using VMWARE
I'm using VMWARE (ver 2.0.1) too, but for Mac OSX..
My Windows are XP 32 bit, and OSX running it is OSX 10.5.6..
I have flashed many, MANY ROM to my G3 Universal (Dopod ver) using my XP by VMWARE.. but i also noticed it always failed when flashing Radio ROM.. afterwards, i use my colleague's Laptop using XP 32 bit (the same OS i installed in my VMWARE) and it runs smooth as silk.. ;p
Also, not so long ago i tried flashing my o2 XDA2i using my VMWARE (upgrade all 3 ROM - including the Radio).. and what do you know.. it failed again..
i think the ROM upgrade utility / MA Upgrade utility has some crash with VMware's driver..
Too bad there aren't ROM upgrade utility for other OS besides M$..
such a shame, considering M$ are trying to shut our beloved forum not so long ago.. (they even still trying)
Irony ~~~ oh irony..

Well, for anybody is experiencing problems, here is a short but illustrated manual about flashing in windows 7.
1. Open your device manager and select Microsoft Usb Sync in Mobile Devices section:
2. Open its properties and go to Driver tab, then press Update Driver:
3. Choose the second option:
4. AGAIN choose the second option:
5. Click Have Disk button:
6. Select the folder with downloaded driver (the one for Windows 7 x32 and the one for Windows 7 x64):
7. You will get back to previous screen, then click Install, a warning appear, click Install anyway:
8. Wait while driver installs:
9. It will be successfully installed:
10. Now when you get back to driver properties, don't close the window and check driver version. If it changed from 2nd step (2003 instead of 2007), everything is ok:
When everything is complete, close this window, go to bootloader and flash your favourite rom

İnstall vista ruu driver.

It is not XP or VISTA
you know i have the same problem with this rom something is wrong, i tried in 3 different computers with XP with the same result as you, then i tried to flashed in another computer with VISTA, upgrading the driver sucessfully but the same result, so i return to COTULLA rom flashing in VISTA with no problems at all, conclusion it´s not XP or VISTA with all the respect maybe you should take a look to your rom LUCA (happends the same with diamond rom) it would great that you can fix it, thanks !

Doesnt work on Windows 7 Build 7000. Tried today and it doesnt show Microsoft USB sync anymore, HTC USB Sync instead.

The method lt2p showed worked for me on Win 7 build 7100
I had to select Show Compatibility Devices and then select to install the Windows powered Pocket Pc 2003 driver instead though -
Otherwise everything else is the same and it updated the rom without a hitch

this didn't work for me

- First of all you need to put your device in bootloader mode (press and hold power, light and softreset button)
- then connect the MDA to your computer.
- open computer management (devicemanager) and you will see "Microsoft USB Sync" as in first picture.
I did it and it's working on my Win 7 (Buils 7600)

Woo hoo! your the man!

RUU Works in Vista RTM!

Hi. I`ve finally found the way to connect mtty and run rom update utility in Vista. tested on rtm 6000.
First of all, connect your device when it`s in bootloader.
next, open Windows Mobile Device Center and in connection settings uncheck Allou USB Connections.
next, goto contol panel-administrative tools-services and start windows mobile device connectivity and windows mobile device 2003 connectivity
next, goto device manager and find your device and update the driver to the one from AS 4, i attached it, wceusbsh.inf.
then, kill wmdc.exe with any taskmanager
You are Ready. run ruu or connect MTTY. I guess that vista default driver uses another port, not WCEUSBSH001, that`s why we have to use the old driver.
Didnt work for WM6 update
is this supposed to work for the WM6 upgrade?
Didnt work for me.
Attached the files for x64 version of vista (taken them from x64 XP).
Drivers are unsigned, so you have to turn off driver signature enforcement in vista. Google how to do this.
And yes, this can be used to upgrade uni to WM6.
No this method did not work for me for O2 Atom.
Using Vista Business with released final windows mobile device driver. No use. Able to sync perfectly. But RUU ROM update is failing. Trying to disable the firewall also no good.
omg thank you so much for this! i was trying to downgrade my hermes from 1.06 to 1.04 CID but vista's windows mobile device centre or whatever its called is dodgy as hell and i couldn't run RUU. you are a god send, thanks again!
yes, this is working out very well with vista.
Thank you.
Vista cannot find drivers for Hermes after flash
I used these drivers to allow me to flash my Hermes with the latest Cingular image. After the device reboots, Vista no longer recognizes it. Vista prompts me to search for a driver but cannot find one. Is this related to installing the back-level drivers above? Anyone know how to recover from this?
Thanks!
No joy....
This did not work for me. I'm running Vista Ultimate and a TMO MDA.. I hope there is a solution soon.. I really want WM6 on my phone, but I don't want to have to have an XP machine around....

I was also unable to get this working. I am running Vista Enterprise RTM. I followed the steps in the list exactly, and also tried restarting the services (they were already started) and killed mobsync.exe (Sync Center). No such luck . RUU crashes while trying to read information from my phone. Has anyone who had problems earlier got it working yet?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm having difficulty updating the Build in driver with the one you supplied. As soon as I try to update the driver I get a meesage saying the one installed is already the most recent. As soon as I uninstall the original driver it is redetected and reinstalled.
Anyone have any help on this.
Thanks,
Tom
Right click on the device and click "Update Driver Software"
Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
Below the textbox, click "Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer"
Now you can click "Have Disk" and choose the drivers you downloaded
Pick the device it pulls from the .inf file
Step through the rest of the wizard and you should be set.
The wording of the buttons may vary but should be similar to what you have (I'm running Vista).
RUU Version
What version of the RUU software is working, I tried the 2.00.1 that came with the 2.61 radio upgrade and it did not work.
I, too, am using 2.00.1. I'm going to try these steps on one other machine I have that's running Vista. We'll see what happens!
Thanks for providing a solution that works on Vista.
Upgraded my Hermes using mtty and RUU, no problems with the driver posted.

problem upgrading i780 to win6.1 using vista

im using version DXHD1 and i try to upgrade it to win6.1 using the link
http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/i780/sg/subDx_Vista.jsp#
For vista OS, i used the instruction as specified in
http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/i780/sg/howto_vista.jsp
Following the steps above, right after the i780 updater verified the attached phone, it reset my i780. after my i780 reset, the i780 updater just froze. I did this for several times and again, the updater just froze The update doesn't continue.
Does anyone know what's going on here?
try to unplug your USB and plug it back?
i also had that problem on 2 of my PCs with Vista OS so i gave up and used an XP one, just to be sure.
thanks for the replies. I tried unplugging the usb, and even used the xp but it didn't work.
Is there any other way to upgrade without using samsung's upgrader?
1. Put your i780 into bootloader mode before you plug it in to the usb. <----- IMPORTANT!
2. Now, open the pdf file (attached to this post in the zip file) and follow the instructions to install drivers for ur usb.
Its quite simple, you should have no problems. I've also attached Mirage update for convenience. This works on my windows 7 lappie. I also enable compatibility before i run mirage update. These are my settings -
1. right click the mirage update exe file and go to properties, then head to compatibility
2. choose "Run as administrator"
3. Run with Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode on.
It should run fine!
Cheers

WMDC on Windows 7 RC1

WMDC was working fine for me until I upgraded to RC1 of Windows 7. It did tell me as I upgraded that WMDC wasn't compatible. The only thing I have installed which isn't in fact. Windows own mobile device centre is the only thing not compatible that I had!?!?!?
Anyway, I guess I'll try a reinstall, but does anyone know how I can get it WMDC working again?
(I'm using Dutty's 3.3 and W7 RC1 64bit)
Hi. Now I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate RC Evaulation copy. Build 7100 and everything is working fine. Even rom upgrades working with no poroblem.
hey guys - I'm using RC1 too but the 64-bit - never tried to use it to flash my device though (dual boot with XP)
its the last piece of the puzzle I need in order to migrate completely to W7 and wave goodbye to WinXP.
can you both confirm which versions you are using please? and if 64-bit did you have to install the vista 64-bit driver found on these forums or did it work 'straight out of the box'?
thanks
I have 32-bit version of Windows 7 RC. I just connect mine HTC TOUCH HD to PC and Windows install the drivers and Windows Mobile Device Center install automaticly. Now everything is working. cheers
As I said, I have 64 bit and WMDC wont even start for me
I have Win 7 RC1 64bits, and Duttys HD V2,4
You need to uncheck Enable faster data sync in Settings/Connections/USB to PC..
That dit the trick for me...
Hi! I have 2 notebooks, one with win7 rc1-32bits, the other with win7 rc1-64 bits. I connect my Touch HD on both, succesfully.
Htc Touch HD Aka Blackstone
Windows 7 RC (Build7100)
Everything works GREAT!!!
Flashing, synchronizing!
Must be your config
Windows 7 RC x64 here, can flash without problems, after downgrading HTC-USB drivers to active sync drivers
Windows 7 here X6. Everything works perfect
I'm using Windows 7 RC1 64BIT without any problem.
Have you upgraded from Windows 7 Beta to the RC?
Than you must uninstal WMDC before. After the upgradeprocess reinstall WMCD again.

This fixed it for me. Thanks
You shouldn't need to disable faster data connections. The reason that this method works is that it detects a new device and installs new drivers.
There are a few things to do, I am not sure which in particular does it, but I'vbe upgraded Windows 7 many times and some combination has always worked.
Reinstall WMDC 7.1
Manage partnerships and delete them all.
When you plug in your phone go to device manager, find your phone (if faster data connections is shown, it will be listed as a portable device and a Lan connection)
click "uninstall" on these items, and delete drivers if this option is available.
unplug phone. Wait
Plug it back in.
Let it install drivers
If this still doesn't work. Click on the devices (network connection and portable device) selelct "upgrade drivers" on each, searching the internet.

To be honest, now it works I'm not going to mess with it unless I have to. Will it be a slower transfer to the HD?
Hi all,
I had similar trouble with Windows 7 RC, however I followed the instructions posted at: http://capitalhead.com/articles/ena...synchronization-on-windows-7-x64-and-x86.aspx and that did the trick.
If I'm not mistaken, Windows 7 is supposed to download WMDC automatically, however it never did that for me. Hope it helps someone else.

w7-64bit RC1 here....
WMDC works fine (stock install) - use it both at home and at work, and i flash by renaming and copying rom image to SDcard\blacimg.nhb
Unistall
Try to uninstall WMDC and download and install another one from the internet! It work for me and i had the same problem...
W7 and Blackstone here. Flashing Syncing ... works great.
I know this thread is old but I am having this problem and none of the suggestions I have found out on the internet have solved it. I am basically having the same issue as most people in this thread have had but the REAL problem is that Windows Mobile Device Center will NOT install no matter what I try. I run the setup for it and it looks fine until it gets to 1 second left on the progress bar. Then it sits...and sits...and sits...until finally the bar rolls backward and the installation quits. No error messages, no nothing and no WMDC. I am running Win7RC x64. I will never get syncing working if I can't get WMDC actually installed in the first place. I did look in the event log and it seems there is an error related to VSS every time I attempt an install on this app. Anyone have any ideas?

Flashing from Internal Storage through mtty... Diamond won't boot anymore

Hi all!
Yesterday, I want to flash another ROM to my diamond, and downloaded the nbh file into the Internal Storage... (but I've forgot to rename the file from "ruu_signed.nbh" to "diamimg.nbh")
After, I've formatted the device with mtty application (same procedure as in the relative thread), but when I start the phone for flashing, it can't find any image (obviously)... But it can't boot so!
Now I have to sent it to the repair center?
Or there is a solution for flashing an image in my phone? (for example, there isn't a way to connect the phone to the PC in "storage mode"; or a command through mtty for renaming files)
P.S.: my diamond, when in bootloader mode, won't connect with ActiveSync, I can communicate with it only with mtty software
Connect the phone, start the Bootloader (volume down). If you can read "USB" you will be able to flash a new ROM, try the orginal stock ROM from HTC first.

It's because the phone don't connect with ActiveSync (I mean)... The RUU don't recognize the phone!
I've tried with three different usb cables, with a different usb port, with reinstalling ActiveSync, with another two PCs (the first with Win Xp & ActiveSync, the other one with Win 7 & the Mobile Devices Center) none of this can't see the phone connected... I repeat the only thing can I use on the phone is the BootLoader, and there isn't no way to connect it to a PC for execute the RUU...
At now, I'm looking at the mtty commands' list, maybe there's one that can operate on the files in the Internal Storage...

The phone is ready for usb connection, but ActivSync (AS) must recognize it by this way
- Open AS > File > Connection Settings
- Leave all default then press Conect (button)
- Let AS detect all connections. When it does finish (you can see the message ... USB is available...), DON'T close the window
- Run RUU, now it should see your device !!!
You don't and shouldn't need ActiveSync or WMDC to run mtty. You need the updated drivers for your phone.

Again, you don't need ActiveSync/WMDC to run a custom RUU. Make sure you have the updated drivers for the device (try uninstall/reinstall in the host PC>>Device Manager). Are you sure you're running a "Developer" version of HSPL?
About ActiveSync: ActiveSync (server) needs the activesync client (on your phone) to run for the purpses of 'sync'ing contacts, mail acocunts etc. It will not affect RUU in anyway. If you further clarity on this, I'll make a larger post on the technical blah blah someplace...but someone from xda might have done that already.

The SPL is 1.93 from OliNex!
I think there is an incompatible driver in your Windows PC.
1) open bootloader your phone then plug in usb cable
2) If you are using Windows 7, open control panel
Go to Device Manager.
Find device called HTC Sync or QUACOMM something delete it (including driver)
3) Unplug the USB Cable and plug in again.
4) Windows 7 will start to find an appropriate driver for your device (check device manager)
5) Unplug the USB Cable and plug in again to use the new driver
6) Run RUU to upgrade the ROM
If you are not using Windows 7, you can do the same but you have to install driver manually because only Win 7 can search and update driver automatically. Drivers can be found on HTC CDs, XDA-developers site, or well somewhere else.
If you can still access Boot loader, there is no need to panic. Somehow, if you still cannot do this, just borrow somebody else computer then plug in and try to upgrade.

Cool, Satus has given the exact things you can do...also make sure your HSPL is unsigned to allow unsigned roms to be flashed. I use the Win7 default drivers for my device (that it downloads) and it works perfectly IMO.

I've tried with a just-formatted Win 7 PC... It's all ok!
It has downloaded the driver from Windows Update, and without open the Mobile Device Manager, the RUU updated my phone successfuly!
Many many thanks to all!...

Windows Phone Driver Error

I'm suddenly having a problem with my Nokia Lumia 800. For some reason my PC is failing to install the Windows Phone 7 portable device driver. I get an "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" error.
I've tried un-installing the drivers and reinstalling them but I still get the same problem? Any ideas? Thanks

Make sure that you have the automatic driver downloading from Windows Update turned on. You can turn it on in the "Installing device drivers" screen when you plug in a USB device.

No luck with that.
Uninstall the drivers for Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone USB.
Restart the PC and then attach the phone.
Try to use a different USB port.
If that don't work then i'd suggest a new USB cable
I've tried a different USB cable that's working with another Nokia Lumia 800 in the office and still the same problem. I've tried different USB ports and I've also tried this USB Cable and Lumia on a different PC and it installed the drivers correctly and worked fine.
Is there any settings that I may have changed that could have casued the error code 31. The phone charges up fine from the USB port, what ever is causing the 31 error is the problem?

Try this:
Unplug your phone
Uninstall Drivers
Uninstall Zune
Reboot
Install Zune
Plug your phone
Tried that and I still have the same problem!

One of the most useless pieces of windows 7 "help" I've seen. I like the "help" it provides in diagnosing wifi errors. Priceless.
A quick google of the error showed me its a port problem on the phone.

Great idea! I didn't think of that. It's my office PC so I'll give it a go on Tuesday when I'm back in the office.
Thanks!

1. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click Device Manager, located in the left column.
3. A window will appear with the name of your computer and a list of files. If you don't see the files, click the name of your computer. The name of your Windows Phone should be listed under Portable Devices. If Windows Phone was incorrectly installed, it may be listed with a yellow exclamation mark . Or, it may be listed under Other Devices as a USB device or an unknown device.
4. On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.
5. Select Delete the driver software for this device and then click OK.
6. Return to the Device Manager window, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
7. Open Portable Devices, double-click the name of your Windows Phone, and then click the Driver tab. Or, if you don't see your phone name, click unknown device listed under Other Devices, and then click the Driver tab.
8. Click Update Driver.
9. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
10. Click Browse, locate on the C drive the Program Files/Zune/Drivers folder, and then click OK.
11. Click Next and if you're prompted, click Install. You may only be given a Close option.
12. After the driver installation is complete, Close the open windows until you exit the Device Manager. If you're prompted to restart your computer, do so when you can.
(13. (In case of syncing problems) Go to Program Files/Zune and find Zune.exe, right click, select properties, then Compability, check run as administrator and hit ok. Run Zune a gain, and an admin prompt will appear)
Sent from my rooted SGS i9000 running Gingerbread. I also know stuff about WP7.5 and Zune.
Please just follow the steps and ignore the text between step 0 and 1. I edited the message too many times and can't cut it out.

Tried all that and when I try to install the drivers from the Zune driver directory it tells me that my driver is up to date.

I unistalled all the USB storage drivers for windows phones and android etc and also the USB Composite drivers. This is the closest I've got to getting it to work but it is still not working.
My Lumia was working fine on this PC until I downloaded the Nokia care suite. I'm wondering if I did something them but I can't remember?
EDIT: Nokia Care Suite is picking up my Nokia Lumia 800 when connected just not Zune?
