Hey people,
I downloaded Vito Winterface v1.2 and really like it..
However, it seems that I have to run Winterface and Touch Flo 3D simultaneously and cannot use the Winterface as the default UI.
When I turn on my HTC HD it goes to the Winterface UI automatically and the TF3D remains un-launched. The used memory indicates it is in the lower 20s (percent). As soon as I want to make or receive a phone call, I have to launch TF3D and then the used memory is up to the high 30s even 40%.
Is it possible to use Winterface without TF3D? That would make the phone much faster..
I tried to un-tick the TF3D box on the Today screen, then it was impossible to make phone calls..
Thanks.
BTW - you guys are great!
there may be much more elegant technical solutions or workarounds here but...
with Yota Contacts App I make and receive phone calls with disabled TF3D
dont know, but with TF3D there must be an internal phone app, which with chance may be startet seperately? Then you dont have to install a third party phone app...
I can make phonecalls just fine when I disable TF3D... I do not believe the phone-function is part of TF3D, or vice versa (could be wrong though, but it seems unlogical to me).

I've given V1.2 a go. A very close mimic of iPhone's desktop I must say, including the way we could move the icons around, and the little dots at the bottom indicating the number of pages and the currect page.
I have unticked TF3D on the today item screen, and it is still possible to make calls. That's not a problem for me.
I do have a few questions to anyone more familiar with winterface than I am.
1) The winterface unread mail counter does not get reduced as and when mails are read. I even tried ending and restarting winterface but the counter stays undated. After some time, however, with what seems to be an scheduled update within winterface, the counter was corrected. Is there a way to make this update instant?
2) I find the process of adding appllication to the desired page a little challenging. The added application always go the first page, and we then have to drag it to the desired page. Would be nice to be able to directly add to the desired page. Anyone knows of a way to do this directly?
3) I find the navigation from page to page rather jerky. It is far from the smoothness of iPhone or iPod. Any remedy for this?
4) The gesture for bringing up winterface does not seem to work predictably. Sometimes it works, sometime I kept drawing the reverse V but nothing happens. Is there a trick on how we should draw it?
5) There is a facility to add "Favourite". Anyone know what this is? Is it internet explorer favourite? OR favourite contact records? How do we add the entries? I just see a blank screen and back arrow, but don't see anyting there. Is that taking the using Vito Fun Contact Favourites? Anyone using Fun contact and Winterface who can tell us?
Edit: Found the answer. It takes the input from \windows\favorites, and let us choose from there, which of the entries we want to convert into an icon to be launched from winterface. The concept is nice, but it uses Pocket IE rather than Opera. What a pity.
6) I noticed that winterface never use the last two icon slots at the bottom right. Anyone knows why and if there is a way to fill these two spaces up?
Edit: Now I know the reason. When I turn it into landscape, the number of icons would exactly fill up the screen.

You don't need TF3D ticked to make phone calls. If you press your phone hardware button it should take you directly to the dial pad were you can start punching in names or numbers and your contact should show up.
I personally don't like the default contact app so I've downloaded Inesoft Phone 4. I love the way this program transforms the call history, dialer, Caller ID skin, favorites, and contacts!
Winterface draining battery?
I have installed Winterface on my HD and this is strange:
without any real action (no phone calls, no games, no internet, etc.) the battery lasts only for less than 14 hours. Something is continously working in the background and using up the energy.
With TF3D there is mostly one segment (so I assume 10%) battery consumed after 14 hours if at all.
Has anybody else this issue as well?

I also read somewhere that bluetooth notification could cause a drain too

It happens that I am at work where I use another communications infrastructure on the one hand and on the other hand I wanted to have a real comparision between the battery usage of TF3D and Winterface.

Yes, I have installed the 1.2 version; that's what the support asked first as well. But they have not provided any solution until now. I am waiting for a new release...
Bluetooth notification: this is something which should not be Winterface specific. I mean, with TF3D I should have the same drain of battery with that turned on?
Thanks for your comments...
Im useing Winterface 1.2.
Have a few problems too.
I cant place any icon on the two down leftmost positions. I can only have 18 icons
at each page in portrait mode. Strange isnt it? Looks pretty bad too.
I also think it runns slow on my touch HD.
Like it only runs in 10 FPS.
Anything anybody else noticed?

You don't need TF3D to make phone calls in HD. Just press the phone hardware button and there ya go.

All,
Upgraded my unbranded UK TP2 to WM6.5 yesterday and just re-installed all the apps; here's some initial impressions.
It IS worth doing the hard reset to do the upgrade. First off, you're going to have a nice clean install which is always a good thing; secondly WM6.5 itself is more evolution than revolution; small graphical tweaks, things are 'easier' to stab at with your fingers (the screen seems more forgiving), and text/menu options/e-mails etc are spaced out more to make using the device easier on the run.
Some changes/good things/quirks in WM6.5:
Owner information option is gone from the "settings" menu. Simply activate on the Today Screen, click where it says "Touch here to enter owner information" and you're in the same place. Don't bother messing with a nice clean install with that .cab file doing the rounds on here when you just don't have to.
The honeycomb menu is a personal choice, but it's flexible and clean looking enough to make it easy to navigate around. I've gone from using SPB Menu 2 (as version 3 just did NOT integrate with TF3D and the phone contacts (soft key) option) back to just using the standard WM6.5 menu and Today Screen.
WM6.5 introduces new options to reject calls with a text message - most useful.
WM6.5 introduces a new option to automatically activate the pen notes application when the stylus is removed from the holster during a call. The main reason to remove the stylus is to scribble a phone number down, so this option is again, most welcome.
VOICE DIALLING OVER BLUETOOTH WORKS AGAIN! The feature I missed the most on my TP2 works again. I installed MS Voice Dialler 1.6UK version and with my Jawbone BT headset I'm back to normal operation.
Re-organising the main honeycomb menu is a little painful; rather than a nice "hold and drag" method, you can only "Move To Top" or "Move Down". Putting things into folders and using File Explorer is the order of the day.
The new 'slide to unlock' screen lock is a real boon for not messing up your phone while it's in your holster and avoids installing battery killing 3rd party apps.
FM Radio application is installed as a default. Again, no need for 3rd party hacks or apps.
WiFi reception and throughput speed appears to have been boosted. I certainly get a better reception in my home, in the same locations I used to get slow/juttery video streaming in.
Battery increments - not seen it in 1% as yet, anyone else confirm if it's 1 or 10% increments?
No major application incompatibility problems that I can see as yet.
Run the Rhodium Advanced Config app over the device to ensure fast GPS, A-GPS and the like is tweaked to your convenience and you'll find you can get pretty much everything you want done with a standard configuration, with your normal apps installed on it, rather than hacking and tweaking. As a result the system takes a much smaller memory footprint and everything seems to hang together more smoothly and without slowing the system down.
Hope this helps clear some things up for your normal/power users looking to update their devices. All-in-all I'm really happy with the WM6.5 update. It almost feels like the TP2 was made in the first place for WM6.5 and its just come to life with it, almost as if WM6.1 was a (temporary) necessary retrograde step that HTC didn't want to do...
Thanks and be good to see other people's feedback on the update.
Adam.
Thx for the update.
Very glad to hear that voice dialing over BT is working again and that there is a slide to lock and FM Radio (without having to install battery killing 3th party apps).
Looks very promising.
Hope I can install this soon and add some comments. Dutch version however not yet available.
The quick drop down menu from the start button is gone in 6.5/ Is there a decent cab to get it back? I've tried some previously that did not work. One thing I would miss with 6.5. Yeah, I know a petty thing to some, important to me.
I dislike BT so that feature means nothing, don't care for titanium or tf3d, so ms 3.5 is my prefered ui. My tp2 is one of the most finger friendly phones I've had yet even while running 6.1 . I know it always seems to make sense to upgrade to the latest and greatest, but the latest isn't neccessarily the greatest.
Having tried several diff cooked 6.5's on my old tp I may sit this one out for awhile. If you've neve tried 6.5 then by all means one should give it a try. Judge for yourself.
Bluetooth
Does the fact that Voice Dialling now works over BT mean that htc have upgraded the BT stack, ie hopefully gone back to the MS one?

Maybe I'm missing something. It seems that the slide to unlock doesn't lock the hardware buttons. If the phone is in a case or a pocket and a call comes in, it's possible to accidentally press the hardware accept or hang up button. That's a problem that only seems solvable using 3rd party apps.
I'm very satisfied with this 6.5 rom release. It includes basically everything I wanted. The only thing is the Manila 6.5 with the animated today menu that changes as the weather from your localization changes.
even though this official release of winMo 6.5 looks great (installed the french one on an unbranded tp2) :
-i think the colored tf3d look is giving the rhodium a less serious image (too much green in it
-in general, the OS seem to be quite heavy for the device
-there's an obvious problem with the tf3d today clock (which is always giving me exactly 1hour & 2minutes earlier for 2seconds everytime i press the "no" button)
-also i noticed that the wi-fi antenna doesn't automatically reconnect to the selected network after i put the phone out of sleep mode, while the wi-fi antenna stays active on the phone!!?
and seriously guys, i still don't get why they didn't provide tp2 users with manila 2.5, it makes absolutelly no "SENSE"
thank you so much.
could you tell us if tom tom run ok and if you can use it in landscape mode?
s2u2 is compatible?
sorry of my english.

I noticed the thing about the clock temporarily showing the time an hour and 2 minutes earlier for about 2 seconds. Can the OP please explain how I can get the owner info screen to enter my details. I cant find anywhere on the today screen where it says 'tap to enter information'

This is a feature of the manila/sense itself to give the effect of the old clocks with the flipping numbers.

I think it actually has something to do with the my location thing, but since I can't get that to work properly most of it is just an annoyance. Lol
E-mail to HTC (bug that I found in Manila 2.1 in the WM 6.1 that still maintains in WM 6.5):
Good Morning
I've been using the Windows Mobile 6.1 for a while and found a bug that I was expecting to be solved in the 6.5 release but unfortunately no.
When I choose in the weather tab the City of Lisbon, Portugal and update the forecast it corrects me the system time to GMT CASABLANCA instead of using the correct GMT LONDON, DUBLIN.
The Portuguese Time includes changes to the Winter Time and Summer Time, like in UK. To correct that I need to use always as my default city London, not taking use of the function from the new Manila: "My Location".
Can that be corrected in a next release?
Best Regards
Márcio Teixeira

Quick and easy - don't bother downloading and installing cabs, this is easier!
Go to Settings -> Today and make sure that in the "Items" tab, the option for "Owner Info" is ticked.
Now go to your today screen. There will be the owner information line - and if you've entered nothing, it'll say "Tap to enter info..." just tap there and enter the info in the control panel that appears.
If you then don't want Owner Info on your today screen (but just wanted to enter a username for app registration etc), then go back into Settings -> Today and untick the Owner Info option.
Thx,
Adam.
Just received my phone today. I toyed around with the phone and I noticed everytime I select something : task manager, program, volume. When the phone returns to the home screen the clock shows a time of 6:24 then it flips to the correct time. I had the Original Tilt and have never used Touchflo 3D. Is this the norm? It was cute the first time now it's aggrevating.
PS- I'm running stock rom.
Yep it's my location time running behind your normal clock.
I noticed the same thing too. The clock appears to start an hour behind and then flips to the correct time.
Its slightly annoying. =/
Happens on the stock AT&T rom. Don't know if it happens on other ROMs.

Ok you lost me. Can you explain?
Actually, mine starts 1:02:00 behind, then it switches to my current time. So I see the hour flip once and the minute flip twice. If you want to recreate this, just tap the notifications up top, close them, and then you'll see the time change. It's as if ATT wanted the clock to flip once when changing focus to it...
im using the tilt with a cooked rom and i have the same "issue. mildly annoying; would be nice to get rid of it
Unfortunately, it's working as designed. I believe it's supposed to be a "coolness" feature of the clock flipping everytime you go to the page.
I'm not sure I agree - you can see the behavior with the digital clock on device lock as well. There, it's not so cool. It really looks like it's doing something wrong.
Anyone know where to set 'my location' if you've gotten rid of TF3D?
me too
I noticed that the first day I got it on the Wednesday. I agree it is annoying and would like to prevent it if possible. I will keep looking to see if anyone comes up with a fix.
The other thing that I have noticed is that the SMS and or Email will just pop up for no apparent reason. I have it set to check my Email accounts every 15 minutes but I dont think it is on that time frame. It seems fairly random. Let me know if anyone else has noticed this that way I can see if it is something I have installed causing the problem.
Thanks, Kevin

It's the Time Zone Auto Fix package that is causing it...Just the way HTC is keeping your time accurate. Try disabling auto time check.
BG4 all also fixes it
Background For All includes a couple of flip clocks (clear and white) and also "fixes" this behavior. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572166

Assuming you meant the settings under 'Phone', this had no effect for me. Still flips. Going to try the Background 4 All & Flip Clock next. Thanks
The time between what's first shown and what it is flipped to / skipped to is about 75 minutes apart (I caught it enough times to see it happen). It's a very odd time to be off / different...
I've got this issue too, and I'm running the stock att rom for now. I agree, very irritating. I thought something was wrong with my phone until I found this thread.
It appears that the time is when I last looked at my phone, as if it's cached (either the time or what seems more likely - the screen) and then is updated and refreshed. I wonder if there's a way to disable this caching, if that's what it actually is...
Probably handled in the LUA scripts as they describe how the page is rendered & what action do what. My suggestion is try to find the Home Page from one of the other TP versions. They don't have the flip clock.
EDIT: The newer Sense 2.1 TF3D does this as well as animated the whole BG with the Weather on the Home page anytime TF3D looses focus & gains focus back. This means when you go to a screen that is not TF3D. An example is just opening & closing the start menu on a 6.5 ROM.

You're on to something there. Fixed the flip but screwed up the clock. Digits are all screwed up.
Any ideas?
Thanks for working on this.
(copied from the tilt2 tips/problems thread)
I was wondering if anyone else has seen any of these 2 issues with their tilt 2. One of them is a problem, the other may just be normal.
1. Text messaging - Text messaging, as i've learned to deal with on all the winmo phones i've owned is sluggish. But this particular problem I haven't seen before. The problem is when I close out a text message and the screen goes back to the inbox. The screen freezes for a few seconds (sometimes longer than others) before I can do anything else. It's really annoying. I have attached screenshots of this. I know it's frozen because the top of the screen has not redrawn, as you can see in the screenshot.
2. It seems that there must be a memory leak somewhere as my memory usage keeps increasing, yet no programs are open or running. I have attached a screen shot of the task manager as well. As you can see it's at 86% and nothing is open.
If you have experienced this and know of a way to fix either of these, please share. By the way, i'm using a stock ROM. Thanks everyone for your help.
Normally the stock ROM´s are full of crappy apps installed by the cell providers.
Normally I reflash inmediately to a cooked ROM from the great Chefs we have here at XDA!
Those ROM¨s nomrally perform better, of course it affects the apps installed by you at the end
Has anybody experienced the text messaging issue in any of the cooked ROMS?
maybe

i have an at&t branded tp2 and i am running an older leo from ngrz28 (thanks by the way) and yes i stay between 59% lowest i've ever seen and 84% with nothing open. i is probably cuz the good cooks from xda shoved an elephant of a rom (really made for snapdragon prosseser with twice the speed) into the tp2 (minus all the bloatware and other crud). oh well do a lot of reading and try a few different roms to find the right one for you. good luck bro.
Thanks for the replies!
Well, it looks like I may have found a solution to both of my problems. I figured out how to get rid of the text messaging issue...for the most part. I figured out that if I leave text messaging running, once all my conversations are opened once, the lag isn't there when I close out a conversation. This lag happened to me constantly because I have my phone set to close programs completely when I tap the "X" (as opposed to minimizing...I do it so I don't end up with 10 different programs running and crashing my phone). I figured out that if I just minimize text messaging and never close it out, the lag isn't there. Must be a caching thing or something with the sms conversations.
As far as the memory issue goes I gave spb mobile shell a shot and installed the trial version. So far my memory usage has stayed at about 69%. Looks like tf3d is a memory hog.
Anyways, thanks for the replies and hopefully this information helps someone.

Memory usage / leaks depend a lot on your ROM built
I found out the same for SMS. However opening / closing a contact in the contact list takes even longer than the SMS issue and for this I havent found any solution yet
Try disabling XT9 and all the other Xt9 and predictive word settings.
This worked for me when Landscape mode and typing emails..
Hi All,
Using official htc sea wm 6.5
1
=================
Anyone encountered this so called memory leak before??
Try this:
Lock screen by going Start (honeycomb) then lock
I noticed if i lock the screen memory uses up ALOT whole faster... within half a day it hits to 78% used... When incoming calls, screen does not show, but phone vibrates, i press the answer and phone picks up ok... other functions like sms and emails works ok, but alot slower too.
2
==============
I'm also using a mp3 ringtone though.. not such if this caused it, i have actually shorten and compressed the file already, was 7mb, drop to 3mb to 1.8mb now to 1mb...
I noticed when calls comes in, the screen does not lag that much (earlier issue does not happen in this assumption)...
3
==============
Camera application if activated in my pocket (Mis-press, i current assume so..) for unknown amount of time, i notice it and close it.. applications fail to launch properly...
Bottom menus (the phone(left), camera(right) on home screen etc) all dont work anymore.. it jus does not display out properly..
Top menus (close button etc) also does not display properly.. say i press start button (top right on home screen), the top menus bar changes to light blue, but honeycomb on main windows does not come out. No close button on top right either, but i can still close it (looks like not rendered properly of sorts)
TouchFlo3d works still though... i can rotate around phone, contact etc etc
4
==============
Memory uses up alot faster... after i soft reset the phone.. memory hovers at 50%, within an hour will go up to 61% odd.. but stabilizes... phone can be used ok..
5
==============
There are occasional random crashing of god knows what.. sometimes during sms i notice theres a popup of errors in some service of sorts... notice happens during sending sms mostly...
6
==============
Screen auto changes between landscape and portrait mode, sometimes it auto recovers, else, i need to slide out keyboard for awhile, wait for it to stablise, then close keyboard. Not sure if this is the result of taking out from the lather pouch??
Anyone noticed or encountered all these before?? HELP!! ; ;
Program installed:
==============
Google Maps (Update)
Batti
Carmin Mobile XT
Windows Live (Update)
NoPushInternet
MarketPlace
Youtube (Update)
WorldMate Live Installer
WorldMate Live
SKTools
MySoftReset
All programs have been there more or less for a few months already... The programs indicated with (update) means i updated further from default.
Is this a software thingy probably that a hard reset could solve it, or this is more like a thingy that needs to go into service center??
1. That sounds normal. I was using the official HTC WinMo 6.5 ROM a while back and I remembered that the RAM usage stabilized at around 75%. This is regardless whether you use the lockscreen or not.
2. Don't know what you mean...
3. Sounds like a one-off thing. Can you replicate the problem consistently?
4. This is normal. Goes for all WinMo devices.
5. Sounds like an issue with your carrier's network.
6. My best guess is that the magnet on the pouch is affecting the screen rotation.

5. Sounds like an issue with your carrier's network.
6. My best guess is that the magnet on the pouch is affecting the screen rotation.

Are u using any mp3 ringtone? Does it have any issues if we use a big mp3 as ringtone??
Noticed if i use a big file, when calls/sms comes in, phone will "lag" and vibrate with no display of incoming call...if you press call(pickup) button, it ok ok..

I use a 1MB mp3 file. Works fine for me. But I can see that it makes sense for there to be a lag if a large file was used. Lesson here is: try to use small sound files for performance!

1. That sounds normal. I was using the official HTC WinMo 6.5 ROM a while back and I remembered that the RAM usage stabilized at around 75%. This is regardless whether you use the lockscreen or not.
2. Don't know what you mean...

one thing..
for issue 3, its happening at random.. happened maybe a total of 3 times... i do not actually see a pattern as or yet..
for issue 5, i get this Microsoft error that says some process has crashed and need ask if i want to send the report to microsoft or not.. dont think this is related to carrier..
Hi folks, having a slight issue with my TP2. It is running the preinstalled vodafone rom for the UK. (version 1.14.161.6 (50207) WWE)
Over the last two days it has stopped automatically powering down the screen when not being used. The backlight switches off as normal, but the screen does not shut down until i press the power button. So if I forget, the screen can stay on all night, killing the battery.
Have been into the settings,on the power screen, and checked all 4 boxes are checked for the times to shut off the backlight and screen on both battery and mains power, and they are.
Any ideas? I have not installed any new software so am stumped. Any common causes of this behaviour?
Cheers
Jon
did you change it through the manila settings tab or start/settings/system/power/backlight ? the reason why i ask is because sometimes when you set settings through manila tab settings, the settings dont work. try deactivating manila, then start/settings/system/power/backlight , then reactivate manila. hope that helps. if not im stumped too.
Is manila part of touchflo? If so I don't have it enabled, I just use spb shell on top of winmo 6.1, so yes was using start/settings/power method.
However, not sure if I have hit upon the problem - I use a program called g-alarm (which is one of the best programs ever), and in it's settings there is a way to keep the screen on when the alarm is snoozed. I recently enabled this, and wonder if it might have messed up the os settings somehow.
I tried uninstalling g-alarm last night and it made no difference, but since restoring a backup, and changing the screen-on setting within g-alarm to off the phone is working normally.
I daren't re-enable the setting to test it, just in case the phone gets messed up again for good this time so this might be a total red herring, and perhaps it was just the restore that did the trick (although have restoring before at least 3 or 4 times with no joy). Will report back when I dare to mess again.
cool to here you are back to normal lol. it would have been a major hassle if you had alot of apps, accounts and whatnot to reinstall. i got really pissed at g-alarm one time when it wouldnt stop going off (phantom alarm) so i will never use it again. you might want to find the thread from where you got it and report the bug. maybe someone else has the same problem and the developer came out with a patch or upgrade for it.
Had same problem on 2 phones
I had same problem on 2 phones- Tilt2 and Kaiser (Tilt). Problem was.... Microsoft Live. When mail account set to ..As Arrived... phone doesn't go to sleep and keeps screen on permanently. Battery was empty in half of the day. After I switched to use POP or IMAP mail and stopped using Live, everything became normal and works excellent.
Here is the Answer
Maybe you have played some games and did not close it by the normal way..
Try to change the registry:
自动关屏时间
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\
"BatteryTimeOut" = 10
Then
另一种方法是在HKCU\ControlPanel\Power\
Display=25 改成自己想要的值
If there is not one, create it by yourself..
Well, it still happened today, so I think that rules out the g-alarm backlight setting. However, it worked fine most of the time, so intermittent.
Papasha, I think you could be onto something there, I do use MS live. Be a shame to lose the push mail though, but that's the next thing i'll try disabling if it recurs again.
Will try that too fishman if problem comes back, the backlight key is present but the display setting is not. Easily created though.

The problem did start recurring again, so I tried the suggestion to disable the hotmail pushmail (sync items as they arrive) and that has definitely sorted the problem. As a very welcome side effect the phone suffers major slow downs far less now, if at all. I still use livemail but just set it to sync every 60 mins.
