1) which phone is going to be the easiest to unlock?
2) once it is locked will i be able to use all the features inc access to my work email using MS exchange as i was told by the CPW people that i would not be able to access all 'data services' if i bought a phone which was unlocked?
3) i have herd that if i have a phone locked then i will not be able to access any software update?
please help, a novice mobiler!!

No one answered your questions because they can be answered yourself with a little research. Go to the forum on the phones you want, put in some time reading and all the answers will be there. Use the search function with the google option also.

You may have searched but you haven't read. Unlocked means you can use the phone on any carrier that uses the radio bands your phone is equipped with. How will your carrier know you are using a unit they don't sale if you don't tell them?

Not to be rude but this is xda-dev 101. Please search and read in the phone forum you are looking at purchasing. Good luck.

Probably a very basic question.... but does anyone know what i should do, my mum is giving me her XDA2 I in a swap for my razr, but my razr is on fresh (a carphone warehouse own tarrif) these cards usually work in anything but fro some reason when i put it in my mums phone it says
"Network is locked, please input unlock code"
i was just wondering what i should do, any help would be great, and my mum has had other peoples sims in her phone before from different providers working fine.

hello all,
although i read some topics i couldn't find the answer that's why i need to ask this to all. my friend bought htc desire but without sim-unlock, he said it didn't work although he rooted it. so is there a way for sim-unlock for rooted phones. if yes, i'm going to upgrade my phone from "hero" to "desire"
at least can anyone give me a link for this?
Rooting a phone doesnt give you sim-unlock.
If you want your phone to be sim-unlocked you will either have to buy it like that or obtain the unlock code from your carrier or obtain one online.
I know over at the DHD forum there is a radio s-off tool that also is able to give you sim-unlock but as far as i am aware the same procedure isnt possible for the desire yet.

Why must the phone be sim-unlocked in order for you to upgrade? Its easy enough to obtain the unlock code from your carrier, even if the ask a small fee ... just phone them and say you are going on a business trip overseas and your phone needs to be sim-unlocked!
And if you are lucky you might even get a sim-unlocked phone from your carrier, depends what your carriers policy is regarding branding etc.
If you want a 'fool-proof' plan to get a unlocked phone just buy online.
You shouldnt let a carriers foolishness of branding and sim-locking their phone prevent you from having a new phone!

Hello XDA.
This question may be discussed in some other thread (and if it is please redirect me to the relevant one) but I would like a fresh opinion.
I am planning to buy a HTC One X under contract from AT&T. The unlocking part I am sure I can handle. But my main query is whether I would have to see out a certain period where I would have to use the phone on the AT&T network before I can unlock it?
And as I live outside the US, with intention of going there sometime in the future, will I be able to use the unlocked phone when I go there?
Thanks and looking forward for any and all replies.

oh and i totally meant AT&T in the title. not Verizon. my bad my bad
Hi guys I am new to doing these things on GS3, Is is the same thing on Note 2?
I'm sorry in advanced if there's already a thread that answers this question but I looked and searched around to no avail/
I am just careful as the Note 2 is simpler as I easily find solutions to my problem here in the forum.
I am a lurker and just made an account to ask this one question that no one seemed to ask yet: Is there any way I could unlock a GS3 with 4.4.2?
It's unrooted as for some reason SuperSU isn't working. I am going to try to see what I can do about that.
This was my brother's phone, He then upgraded to 4.4.2 then asked me why his new carrier sim doesn't work and was asking for an unlock code.
TLDR: Upgraded to 4.4.2 and out of options for unlocking network.
TYIA guys.
Youll have to buy an unlock code online. Ive seen reports of some places charging just a few bucks. No other known way right now.

It would be mighty awesome if you know those said websites that can unlock 4.4.2 kitkat GS3. Thank you for the info at least someone replied.
If you or a friend are (or were) on AT&T at some point in time, you might be able to request an unlock code via this form
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/termsAndCondition

Yeah I will try that, But Bell Mobility costs 50 bucks to do that. So I might just look for an unlocking service site. Anyone here know one that works with the gs3 OTA 4.4.2?
Thank you for the reply.

hey guy did you ever get your phone unlock i am having the same problem i have the unlock code already it just keep saying unsuccessful any assistance would be appreciated thank you.
^Are you running a stock ROM?
Even if I have to lose the camera
The camera loss has nothing to do with a service unlock.
You should call Verizon, give them the IMEI number, see if it's clean and the phone is paid off. If so, they can unlock it.
You can go with online services but they aren't cheap and there are few other variables. You can read more in the several posts about others' need to unlock a phone.

It's not paid off, and one of the security breach results that happened to my phone left Verizon with the opinion that the symptoms on the phone were deliberate, and that I added a second phone line. So, they think that I added services that cost money and now I just don't want to pay for them. Which is not the case. So, if I don't pay them a substantial amount of money, they will suspend my service. I am definitely not paying for something that I didn't do or legitimately don't owe to them, or anyone else. Do you know if using the same method that is used to easily hack into any android could be modified to alter the source code that locks the device to a carrier? I don't mean specifically, better said, has anyone tried using Kali Linux , with metasploit/ Wireshark to get into an android and establish permissions, then try change the source code related to carrier locking?

Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it
No worries, it's not an uncommon issue.
Nothing I'm aware of can be done to unlock it using Odin or anything like that. You might explore the other options, but I know nothing about them. Search the forums here and you'll find a lot that ask about unlocking. There is a discussion in one about services. Might give you a direction to go and check in.
Here's the rub. If it is not paid off and you want to take it to another service, you're going to have a bad time.
If they close your account and you don't pay them money (especially paying off the phone), then they will blacklist the IMEI and NO CARRIER will ever be able to activate it on their network. Blocked IMEI's, there is no way to flash anything or root whatever or unlock anything that will get you to have it active on a service carrier until the originator has it removed from the blacklist.
I think that is going to be your biggest hurdle trying to take it to another provider.
VZW should automatically unlock it after 60 days if you bought it from them. If third party purchase, 60 days after activated.
Unlockboot.com P.S your phone will go straight to collections unless you pay it off the proper way
Most people wouldn't give info on how to unlock it because it's unethical. It's doable but the phone price will go to collections.
Hey, I am exactly in the same boat. I night s Verizon Fold 3 from someone on craigslist, they told me it was fully paid for, later I found out that it was not. Also it was not unlocked after 60 days. I know the phone cannot be used in the US, but I just want to unlock it for international use.
Did you guys found a solution? Same as Mjatta, i got f*cked on eBay, the even post that accepted returns, but got no response, and eBay didn't help either.
If anybody have a solution for this please reply I am also having the same issue and I can't even contact Verizon because I am in Nigeria.
I hope a paid service will be available soon for this to help owners who are not in the USA

You're just out of luck. There isn't anything anyone here can do. You will just have to bite the bullet and take the hit on the phone and get another one. It's going to get blacklisted as soon as it's in collections and no carrier's network, that is legitimate, will activate the device.
