If I install another ROM, will my device be UNLOCKED (SIM FREE)?

Hello fellas,
I rooted my T-Mobile Hercules ("Galaxy S II" - SGH-T989).
I understand that currently there isn't a solution for Sim-Freeing the device WITHOUT PAYING ANYONE..
If I install another ROM (which is a good idea anyhow because of Carrier IQ) - will my device be unlocked?

No.
I don't think T-Mobile charges to unlock though. I think you can just call and request an unlock code.

There is a free way to unlock. Call T-Mobile and tell them you need to use a foreign sim for a bit wwhile your on vacation. They will email you the unlock code for free

yeah but they have some kind of rule that you have to use the device for 60 days before you can do that..
Any better way to unlock? anyone found the nv_data.bin file..?

I'm not sure about that. I think what they mean is you need to have been a customer in good standing for 60 days. I got my unlock code from them within 24 hours of purchase. All I did was ask and about 12 hours later they emailed it to me.

Yeah. Just have to not be a new customer. Doesnt matter how long youve had your phone.

Lol of course i mean sim unlock code....what other unlock code can a sammy device have?

Unlock codes are unique to each device. They are generated by the carrier are third party using the device's unique IMEI code as part of the input.

Anyone have suggestions as to which site to go to for unlocking a Rogers galaxy note II?
I heard its pretty new device so not a lot of sites have it yet, just wondering if anyone succeeded in SIM unlocking their device from Rogers.

For my S3, I used unlock.gsmcanada.com. $20, and it took about 8 hours once I sent them my info. It was a Rogers phone.

I just placed an order on cellunlocker.net. I will let you guys know how it is!

These guys have always worked and when they6 could not get me a un lock code(very rare)they refunded my money immediately.

I used cellunlocker on my Bell Note II the other day. Took about 3 hours and cost $33.

For my S3 I chatted with. ATT online support and they gave it to me. Havent tried it with my note2 yet.

Two and a half years ago I got my Sony Xperia X10 unlocked in two hours by https://www.mobileincanada.com. Back then I had a coupon and it was $5.
Now I have no coupon and the cost is $20 (+HST), which is still the lowest price I can find. I'm going there again. The speed of unlocking is (understandably) dependent on the brand, apparently HTC, LG and Motorola provide phones in seconds, Samsung is reported to take between 8 and 24 minutes.
I'll report back if/when I get my code.

Well it took them two hours, but they supplied a code. To enable it you have to insert a SIM card from some carrier other than the one you're locked to, and then type in the code.

That post contains a method to access an internal system menu, and to use the menu to sim-unlock the phone. The command to get the menu does work on my Rogers GN2, and I followed the steps, but I don't have access to another carrier's micro-sim so I'm not yet able to test it.
It'll be a neat trick if it turns out to work, and it means that anyone's GN2 can be unlocked for free without needing mobileincanada.com (or anyone else). And if anyone knows where I might find documentation for the rest of that system menu, that would be appreciated.

This method is confirmed to work on AT&T's GN2! Worked for me! Just follow the steps exactly and make sure you have a SIM card from another carrier to test when you reboot.

Pantech Discover unlock

Hello people i'm a newbie to this forum and i'm a newbie to unlocking phones. I don't care about Rooting my phone as i don't think i have the skills to do it. However i just want to unlock a Pantech Discover from AT & T so it will work on T-Mobile can anybody give me the unlock code so i can unlock the Discover so it will work with T-Mobile. Thanks for any and all help

I have tried unlocking my discover and I called AT&T they told me that I couldn't unlock the phone because it was strictly for AT&T. Not sure if that is true or not because I looked at unlocking sites and they say that they can unlock the phone but im not too sure how true that is.
Sorry if that was not any help but being as I have the same phone and tried the calling at&t way of doing it thought I would share that with you.

I tried three different 'pay to get the code to unlock' websites. One flat out said that it can not be unlocked and refunded my money. the other two tried to help me but nothing worked. they all gave the same unlock code, so I kinow that they at least tried to generate one. am waiting to see if I can get refunds from the other two.
its strange - I can root the phone (which I am not really interested in doing), but can't unlock it. Mmmmmm.

Unlocked - WORKING
I've been noticing a few too many people having a hard time with some of the sites someone mentioned. I've had to use one of them myself a few weeks ago for a ZTE Merit from TracFone. Luckily, I was given a working code and move about my way. This phone however, due to limited support has been an obstacle to root and unlock. I am proud to say that I FINALLY have both and even managed to make a working mini-sim after two tries.
Maybe I could help you guys out. I unlocked mine and have it working 100% with Simple Mobile and T-mobile.
All I need is the phones IMEI. I spent hours last night trying using different methods and came really close to paying only to find out the Discover wasn't supported for some reason or another. A buddy came up with a minor tweak in the way the IMEI was loading into the unlocking software to get it working.

First you'll have to get it unlocked. From there you simply need to set your APNs to the carrier you're using the phone with.
The *free* unlock method doesn't work once you've updated your bootloaders (from JB). That being said, you can ask your carrier for the unlock code for your phone (worth a shot).

Sim unlocking is an easy problem to solve by getting a code. A bigger problem is enabling AWS on KK.

yeah the Sim unlock I'll pay and get it done thats no issue. the real problem is the aws. Is there any work around I can use?

Thanks for the info I know this is a newish device so it tales some time.it was this or the pixel and I've always been a oneplus fan seems to always have a lot of dev support and the value does not drop like other phones.

You can unlock the bootloader once you're network unlocked. And then you can root, and try the test version of twrp but I don't recommend any of this because as of right now we don't have a way to flash back the TMobile version if something goes wrong.

Oh, pay off your device, and if you bought it outright then just ask a T-Mobile rep to network unlock it. T-Mobile will no longer network unlock your device if it is not paid off in full as of a week ago. Anyone who says otherwise either got very incredibly lucky or they're going off someone else's story, or just like the 7 Pro they might have found someone here on xda who could network unlock their device for them. That is what I did I had someone unlock my 7 Pro at the time and when I got the 7T I asked them if they could unlock it for me they said yes.

Nice well if u can ever give me a heads up on a way thanks.i didn't know they changed there policy.i will eventually pay this device off but I'll keep looking until then.with the holidays coming up paying off real fast isn't viable at this time..I did see last night they are testing a tool to do it so I might get lucky

So I will be completely honest with you it all comes down to being patient at this point, there are developers working very hard trying to figure out how to convert the T-Mobile to the international version, if you dig around some of the OnePlus threads from any of the other OnePlus phones maybe you'll find someone who has performed Network unlocks for others and maybe they will be willing to unlock your 7T is the best advice I can give you.
