To this date I can not understand why Microsoft Overlooked this issue and did not fix it!!
Windows mobile can not accept more than one mobile number. I have to accept the fact that I store one person name in contact twice so I will have his two mobile number contacts.
The problem if it is fixed in the Windows mobile contact with a patch, it is still a dilemma in MS outlook!! It would not sync properly
Any trick or solution that can help to store two mobile numbers under one contact name? Is there is any solution to fix this in outlook too?
Best Regards
Another Workaround
Hi hm1b,
I faced the same issue, but used a "better" (in my opinion) workaround: I managed the 2nd mobile number as "Other", "Car" or "Home2".
This allows me to have only 1 contact, and I didn't find any issue (I can still use the number for SMS for example).
Hope it helps.
PS: this question has nothing to do with Blackstone and should have been posted in a general thread
Dear Oumpahpah,
thank you for replying. Will I have a HD phone and did not know where to ask this question. It is a genral question that hope some day to find a fixed answer.
I did use the field of home and work but it did not let me send SMS from there!! when you click on contact it will show only the mobile to send SMS.
another thing some of my friend have Iphoe and keep on upsetting me in regards to this issue. So i thought I might have final soultion with a patch for both [windos mobile and MS outlook]
it might as well be a matter of which field you use for a second mobile number, like, you actually cannot send a sms to a home phone..

In fact you can send an SMS to any number (including home phone):
When typing the SMS if you choose to add a recipient you can choose from all the selected contact numbers.
But in the contact detail if you choose "send SMS" it selects the mobile phone by default.
Let face it, the WM contact app. is really out dated have one mobile phone field and you cannot change the field label. Even a simple Nokia S40 phone can do it.

hello, i often have to taxt 15 people the same message, does anyone know if i can group these together instead of inserting their names in one by one. thanks.
as far as I know, SMS can only be sent to one person at a time (hence Simple Messaging Service). I sell cell phones, and have asked my reps this question in the past; all of them gave me a resounding "no".
Group SMS, I'm sure there is something like that....

I believe what he means is multiple SMS receipents for the same message? There's a lot of mobile phones that can do that now.
If you go pocketgear or handago, i think there's quite a few selection you can choose from.
Regards.
thats what i meant,,, any ideas what the programes are called??. peter
If you just put several numbers, spaced out with ";", does that not work?
Cheers
thanks , yes that works but only for that time, i want to keep that group so every week i can just send to one group .. peter
can't you make a contact with that list as mobile phone number ? Not a nice solution, but it might work.
tried that, doesnt work for some reason , thanks anyway. peter
I tried saving a list as one number as described, even though I use semi-colon as seperator it appears as one long number when calling it from contacts, it does however work that one time when entered manually with seperator.
One way is to use Contacts to create a category for the group of numbers, then add the numbers you want as contacts within that category.
Then select that category in Contacts, select all, tap and hold, then select Send SMS. This puts all the numbers in the 'To:' field separated by ';' I haven't tried actually sending an SMS like this so I don't know if it will work.
If it does, then hopefully it will fill in the numbers from the Contacts category correctly each time.
Has anybody tried this yet?
I have tried, it but even if you insert the ";" and a space when you press send SMS it transfers the number without the ";" and space so its just one long number in my case 15 x 11 = 165 :x

I use this method often and it works. The only bad thing is that I have to tick every single contact in the category.
no matter what trick to use with Contacts it will be limited to 15 names only ... try search for "sendSMS" free s/w ... it does the job nicely with retrying for failed messages ... it supports also flash SMSs
saving all the numbers in contacts with a ";" and a space did work . i tried it yesterday several times but nothing happened, this morning they all came through  they must have got lost in cyber space somewhere.
thanks for every ones help and sugestions .
Does anybody know of a program around like SMS Delivery Fix (http://www.saman-cz.com/ppc/drfovrw.html) that would show me the name of the person sended the txt message to (getting the info out of your contacts) that works under windows mobile 6 smartphone edition (or how it is called, the one that just got out from HTC for this device). It is really annoying to only see a number instead of the name.
Start--->Accessories--->Sim Manager
Menu-->Select All
Menu-->Save to Contacts
Now, go into Start--->Settings--->Call Options and uncheck show SIM contacts.
Your problem should now be solved
I doesn't show any contacts there, all my contacts are already in my "normal" contacts. But as soon as you get a message saying your txtmessage has been delivered it gives you a cellphone number instead of the name.
When? You mean in your sent folder?

when you have the delivery reports on it you get a message from system administrator " The message you sent to <telephonenumber> has been deliverd"
With the program linked in my first post you can change that, so that it actually looks in your contacts which contact belongs to that number and shows that name. Only problem is that program is for windows mobile ppc, instead of smartphone, so I'm looking for something similar.

Ahh, ok. I never use delivery reports since I personally find them annoying (the other person's phone essentially texts you back to say they got it and usually not automatically)
Hi
Found a weird problem with SMS sent to me by T-Mobile and First Direct
When the message arrives it is shown to have come from "John Smith" who isn't in my phones contact list, however he is in my Facebook list BUT without a phone number.
Normally it would show the company name or sometimes 150 for T-Mobile.
If someone who isn't in my contacts sends me a text it is showing the number who sent it.
Anyone else had this or know how to fix it?
Got the same bug myself. Put in a new sim card and the same thing happened again, also the same facebook contact appeared. I just deleted it
OK I deleted the Facebook contact who was showing up (they are not that close a friend anyway)
As soon as I did the SMS changed from his name to First Direct
Not sure why it happened, or what I would have done if it was a close friend, but its fixed for now
I have the same problem, just yesterday... I havent tried to resolve it though..
Problem is I do not know how to delete this facebook contact...

I had the same...the facebook contact had their phone number listed as '???'.
My (ex) friends number was "Ask Me"
Still not sure how that links it to T-Mobile (150) or First Direct (no number shown)
just posted about this, sorry, missed this post.
i have the same prob, my fb contact has no number but ask me instead. i dont want to delete the contact though, grrr

I wondered when that might happen.... I guess the best option is to delete them, then add them as a friend again?
Although that might bring back the issue, at least its worth a try!
Let us know how you get on.
Got the same problem. Problem is this is quite a close friend so I'm not going delete her.
Hopefully this will get sorted out with a patch or an update.
Damien
Just had the same too, hope there's an update for this, it's quite annoying!
Same for me, friends number is '0800 eat my leg' haha
Rather than writing rubbish in the number fields, why not just leave it blank? Stupid people on Facebook.
Same problem here with texts from Lloyds TSB and mobile fun! As a few others, I don't want to delete the Facebook contact to fix it as it shouldn't be happening to start with. :/
Found that the person was the only Facebook contact I had linked with a stupid phone entry. I have Facebook contacts hidden in 'People' and now none of them linked with silly numbers - I'll see what happens the next time one comes.
I don't think its just limited to Facebook linked contacts as mine was linking to an imported contact from Google but who had an additional business number listed as 'x' in the second number field. deleted the field then all was sorted

I have this problem too, when T-Mobile sends me an SMS. At the moment I've only seen Facebook contacts linked to the messages, 2 different contacts so far. One of them (happened just now) actually has her proper mobile number set. In both cases these people exist as contacts purely on facebook, they are not "linked" to a phone/google contact.
I've reported the problem to HTC support, I'll post if I get a reply. Please make sure you report the problem so that HTC are aware of it.
I'm getting the same problem too with my Orange Desire

Contacted Orange and HTC to see if they know a fix to this, if not I'll just have to delete that contact.
I contacted HTC last week... just got the following back from them:
Thank you for contacting us. The issue that you have described is known to us, and we are currently investigating this. We hope to have this resolved in a future software update, and you are advised to regularly check the update feature on your phone in order to download any ROM updates as and when they become available. HTC greatly appreciate all feedback from our customers regarding technical issues, and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Hopefully they fix it soon. The more contact they get about it, the higher priority they might give it (wishfull thinking!!) so if anyone is getting this issue please contact HTC via their support link:

Is it just me, or is there anyway to remove the option to Send a Message to any numbers not designated as "Mobile"?
In my address book, numbers designated as Home or Work still give me the option to Text them.
Its frustrating to accidentally send a Text to my Wife's work number, because I selected the wrong option in People, when it shouldnt even show as an option unless its a Mobile.
Any one able to help on this?

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything but maybe just don't text the wrong number...?? Generally you should probably know your wife's cell phone number vs. her work number.

Yes, I do, and you are right, user error is the most at fault here.
I know my wife's cell number, but I hardly know anyone elses. Thats why I keep a detailed Google address book, so that I dont have to.
However I still think its silly that it allows you to designate numbers as mobile or not, but then automatically gives you an option to text non-mobile numbers. Is it not?
And if it is silly, its something Id like to correct if I could, hence asking the community if anyone else has seen this, and knows of any way to address it besides always pushing the decision on the user.
That's a good point. I thought that was annoying as well. I do most of my messaging straight from the messaging app but it still shows all numbers. It's a bit annoying.

Sorry I don't have an answer, just want to say I'm with u on this. I think its reasonable to expect such a genius phone to know it can't send a text to a land line.
Although, as I type this I'm realizing that more companies are using cell phone for their primary lines and employees. Who knows, maybe we will be able to send texts to land lines someday soon. If a regular phone has an lcd for cid display why couldn't it display a text message... things that make you go "hmmm"
I asked a similar question before in a different thread... but does anyone know if the People app source is ever released when they release the source for the EVO ROM?
I imagine the hardest part about excluding the option to message other numbers would be finding the right spot to implement an if statement. Then would it be possible to compile the APK and install that custom version on my phone? While I would be in there I'd probably address the First name sorting problem
I'm 100% with you on this. I know it's part of user control but it shouldn't have to be.
There should be a checkable option in the Messages/SMS app: "Include Non-Mobile Numbers" and it should be off by default.
I also wish you could exclude certain contacts in the Messages/SMS app. There are people at work I would never text but I have their number in case they call me (I often am the "go-to IT guy") so I know who it is.
Ah well, we can hope!
I'm so with everyone on this..It annoys the hell out of me.
but you know what? I found out that apparently Sprint has some kind of service that will txt to landlines.
txt your home phone and you'll see..maybe there is a way to turn that off i dont know. didnt check much further into it

Yes, I've done it by accident many times. Those who I've texted (landline instead of wireless), said they answered the call and was given the option of having my text "read" to them. In fact, I just did it yesterday to my brother, thought I was texting his cell and instead sent it to his home. His wife answered and some "computer lady" read her my text...

I know this version of the G1's Contact.apk has this option (it was my request of the dev lol)
It works on my EVO (2.1 rooted) but MAN it's ugly after using People for the last few days.

I hate to say it but some people's mobile number is their home number. Lots of peep no longer have land lines at all. If you put a filter on what the sms app shows you would likely have as many people unhappy about that as you do this. If your going to error, do it on the side of making things possible as opposed to restricting things is likely the logic in play here.

I thought the messaging app did have that option then I realized I use handsent and it does have a mobile only option in its send settings.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
i guess it depends on how many contacts you have but you could create a group that only contained mobile numbers. Although if you have a significant amount of contacts this would probably be a pain
I created separate "land" contacts for those I text and that have land lines. Lousy but works.

Hi, my company has just changed our phones from G1's to Omnia 7's. I had a handy app on the G1 that I used to forward my SMS's to my personal phone (save carrying both around with me out of office hours). Is there anything available to do this on the Windows mobile 7 omnia at all ? Many thanks
I know that with NoDo you can press and hold on the text you got and it will give you an option to forward it. I don't remember that being there in 7004.

It was there before NoDo... I know cause I dont have NoDo yet and the forward option is indeed there.
Problem is that the OP probably wants an automated process, instead of having to press all SMS's, and for that I don't think there is an application yet.
Hi guys, many thanks for your replies, as Avandor has suggested, I really need this to be an automated process as the phone will probably be at home, so I need it to push it automatically, if possble.
It's been nearly a year now... has any SMS auto-forwarding app popped up yet?
I'm contemplating getting a WP7 phone but need this feature.
Thanks

Mmm, this is all I find:

It just looks like an app that sends pre-written SMSes to specific numbers.
I'm looking for something like this:

It's a security issue / consider Google voice instead

This is not possible in WIndows Phone 7.
Under Windows Mobile 6.5 you could write handlers to intercept text messages as they arrive and do various things, such as send it to an email address using an email account.
But, it would not immiately send. It would go to your outbox and only actually send when you synced.
It's kind of a security issue to allow any application to directly send SMS or make calls without any confirmation. I say kind of because any dev could have called a webservice or done an HTTP post to a site instead. But, imagine a malicious devloper making an app that text messages all of your contacts or random people without your knowledge or confirmation with each send. If they allowed the app you want, they would not be able to stop the malicious app.
You may want to consider Google Voice, since users can SMS the google voice number and it will forward to the numbers or email addresses that you wnat to recieve it on. Then you can reply from any device running a Google Voice app.
