Neither nore... But I used them both in iPAQ Times. Now I am using SK-Tools. The reasons for that are:
a really good support
more tweaking possibilities
faster than the versions of PocketMechanic I know (around about one year ago)
really effective
available in many languages
Using Memmaid 2.1 atm.
Works great, though somehow my HD hangs if the "used" memory reaches over 56% ....
But that's offtopic.
Memmaid works great!
memmaid!
got it free and it works brilliantly
cleartemp is supplied on dutty's ROMs. Been using that to clear up cache's and unrequired files etc.
I use/prefer pocket mechanic i find sktools ok but like with notification que and reg clean it doesn't do it automatically just gives you a list of keys and you pick each to delete ect. pocket mechanic scans and offers to delete duplicates automatically, fix broken keys automatically or lets you manually edit or delete them
Optimize program
You can use MindSoft Mobile Utilities www.pocketmindsoft.com

In different threads I see different meaning about SPB software and their performance on WM6 especially about the memory consuming.
I think it a good idea to discuss the sbp software in this thread in stead of the other treads. In the other treads this thread can be referenced when needed.
Can you reply to in this thread which SPB software you are using in WM6 without any troubled?
Thanx!

Yes, I use SPB Diary & SPB Backup as well. I used to have problem with the SPB Backup (v1.5) but the latest version 1.6 Built 2753 is ok, I do not have issue with Full Backup. According to the change log, this version is designed to work with WM6. So if you have problem, try using the latest version..
Any success with SPB Time anyone?
Hallo alvinlim28,

Have you check the Task Manager to see if there are any 'open' program? By default WM6 does not 'close' the application rather keeps it in the background. If you have a lot of application in the background, of course this will take up memory as well.
So far I do not experience any 'out of memory' problem. To me it doesn't matter if after a few hours of usage I have less memory (it might be WM6's way of keeping some portion of the application cached in the memory for faster recall??). Memory is there to be utilized. As long as WM6 knows how to free them up when I start a big application, then I am fine.
Memory being utilized is good memory, A lot of free memory but not being utilized is not good memory. At the end of the day it's the user experience that matters. If this is WM6's way of making the whole PDA more 'responsive', I'm happy to have this than to have a machine that is sluggish with a lots of free memory.

Sorry for double post (also in Tips & Tricks) but:
With regard to SpB Mobile Shell, it may be worth leaving it to settle down a little.
I use SpB Diary, Phone Suite and Mobile Shell.
Due to the possible memory leak, I removed Mobile Shell for 3 days, but couldn't live without its functionality.
I reinstalled it on Monday evening, at which point, Memory was 22MB. By 8am it was down to 17.5MB, so I thought 'here we go again'; however, by 11am it was back to 18.5MB, and has stayed pretty much the same since, so I'm happy!
SpB Time still wont work- seems to create 2 alarms for the same time, so one activated with no sound; shutting that activates the 2nd with sound.
Chronos works fine (and much smaller footprint, if not so nice interface)

Mobile Shell is known to kill battery and memory, but I know they released a newer version and I haven't heard any reviews on it and if they fixed those issues.
I use SPB Weather & Full Keyboard with no issues on WM6.
I also use spb mobile shell and I usually have 21 - 22 free memory, so I don't see any leak at all
Can someone please post their registry entry for the GPRS Monitor Today plugin? I have installed GPRS Monitor, and only the actual application is working. The Today plugin is not anywhere to be seen, not even in the today item settings. I have checked the registry and there is an entry there but it doesnt seem complete.
Thanks guys.
I use spb weather myself with no probs at all. Using AX3L's rom 2.0.7
Hi all,
I have been suffering by this issue.
I do not have many program in my x01ht, only isilo, mbook, rescoviewer, rescoexplorer, PMcontact, pocket imformant HTC Home, Slide to unlock 0.72, CE-Star, CORG (some of them are installed in card memory)
Everytime after I soft reset my x01ht (offical WWE ROM), I have 26-27M program free
However, after running couple of apps., the program memory drops (of course), the problem is if the app. takes 5M of program, WM6 only release 2-3M memory after I close this app.
So, after half day using my x01ht , I must reset it once , otherwise there is less than 10 M program memory free inside, and I could not run more than 1 program or use PIE to surf internet
Does anyone know anything I could do to fix it ?
Or it just normal because it's based on "window" ?
Appreciated!
I use a small app called "Hibernate" to release closed program memory daily. It was installed already on my TNT rom, so do a search should to find it's cab.
Freeware Oxios Memory (containing Hibernate and Close Apps mentioned in above post) can be downloaded here.
Thanks so much Guys, but I also read from this forum, somebody said this program makes hermes device no more multi-task functions
Everytime users only can run one program...very weird.
Any other users tried this program on Hermes? (Offical WM6 ROM or Cooked ROM?)
Actually I am trying it now, but I have a question, what's the difference in function between Osios Hibernate and Oxios CloseApps ?
Thanks
Not even Oxios Hibernate can free all used RAM. It's an OS issue, called memory leak.
Hibernate - free RAM without closing apps.
CloseApps - Hibernate + Close all apps

Thanks so much,
I have found out something weird after I install this app.
It automatically closes my app. after couple of mins (after use) , even I only run ONE app.
And it closes app. when I run more than 3-4 apps at the same times immediately (after I run the 5th or 6th app. )
I thought Hibernate and closeapps functions when I click it , but not automatically close my apps., isn't it?

They should work on demand - i.e. only when you run them by clicking the icon/exe. I am using these two apps for quite some time and never had such an experience you describe. Seems the culprit is something else in your case...
It's a natural WM behavior to close other apps when the system requires more memory. For example, you open up calendar, then you open up a game that requires a lot of memory, WM will close calendar automatically.
It's not the Hibernate/CloseApp app that's doing it.

Hibernate or closeapps?
It sounds closeapps has both hibernate and closeapps functions , hasn't it?

Answer to your first question: I do it even more often...
I prefer Hibernate.
You are right Closeapps closes the running programs and has hibernate function included. If these apps do not work correctly for you you can use commercial or freeware version of SkTools (it also cleans RAM apart from tons of other functions or also commercial MemMaid - that will let you clean tweak everything connected with memory in your PDA.
Oxios CloseApps doesn't close apps. I don't know if it's because it doesn't work with WM6.1 but when I use it all my apps are still running. Have to use QuickMenu's "close all apps" mode.
I've closed down all my programs, and have no display alteration program installed except HTC Home plug in. But i seem to have a lot of my program memory still being used up.
i've a total of 48.97mb
in use 27.3mb
free 21.67 mb and i've closed down all running programs for sure.
any suggestions?

you'll probably have some programs starting up that you don't need and won't see since they're dll. Just use a start up manager to remove them.
I also use oxios hibernate to free some ram once in a while. After the soft reset and all the programs loaded I run it and get back around 5mgs
Oh how do i remove these dll files?? can i remove them permanently? lol

You can use Schaps Advanced Config Tool or SKTools.
If anything goes wrong, you can still hard reset your device ;-)

Hello guys, I though it would be a good idea to list some of the best practices as far as cleaning up old files and general smartphone maintenance for the Dash and others.
So who wants to kick it off
uh
hmm besides the usual free memory button that i love to use.. my usual reg tweaks that i have done usually fix some stuff.. but i dont know too much else.. it isnt like you can defrag the b$%ch lol.
1. Free Memory
2. Celetask
3. SkTools --a must have
4. Restart (soft reset)
then Repeat lol!
Sktools - run auto clean then free ram
free memory
clear temp
reboot
The best way to clean all the crap up is to brew your own lite ROM. I just finished an Excalibur ROM based on the latest 20279 core. The homescreen looks like the S740 and the new dialer and comm manager are sweet! It works pretty well so far, but I wanna wait until tomorrow at least to release it to do some early beta testin...
looking forward to it !!!!!!!
Excellent post so far, I also use SK Tools and I have found it to be indispensable, with all the add/remove applications registries are updated and sometimes not re-updated when the applications are deleted. I suppose the best way would be to reflash your unit and load up all the apps you know you will use but that maybe a bit on the extreme side. I'm currently working on a list of all my apps and registration codes to quickly upload them to my unit just in case.
Here is the url for SK Tools http://www.s-k-tools.com/
I also personally love CeleTask not only as a quick launcher but a good tool overall
Can someone elaborate on their use of Celetask besides the "Free Memory" function.
Quick Tip for Celetask Status Bar
How to put the status bar to top?
Edit the Registry value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\CeleTask\Flag, add the original value by 1 (e.g. 502 to 503)
enjoy

WMRegOptimizer - v0.1, October 6, 2008
This small tool was originally inspired by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432966
About
WMRegOptimizer is a small tool that tries to optimize registry access - "defrag" it, if you will. It doesn't perfectly defrag it, but it goes a long way. This results in somewhat faster registry access for applications where this is the bottle-neck.
So this speeds up my device?
Not really. It lowers latency for certain system calls, which may result in some things being a bit faster. It doesn't magically make your device faster, but it may be more responsive in some situations.

I don't think so.
I prefer limiting the hacking things.
I had a Diamond for 2 years, and effectively I used a lot of tools to manage ram and registry, but with poor success. A the end I always had to make a soft reset. In the HD mini the included task manager seems enough. I used a full week without turning off and it is still very stable.

Completely agree with moscard.
I used my old smartphone as a computer for one year and I always tried to keep it clean and optimized, but it was more obessive than useful. Now I'm using my Mini without taking care of anything and you know what, I'm enjoying it more.

Yeah, I agree, but I'm interested in such software tools cause when I bought my DEll X30 some years ago, it was completely unstable due to some bluetooth problems and I had to soft reset it several times per week. Then I installed Pocket Mechanic and that little program represented the best money I've ever spent on a pda cause I've been using my pda since then without other issues.
I used SkTools for cleaning temp files, optimising etc... I havent noticed it was of much help (yet)..
I use :-
ClearRAM to free up the ram
ArkSwitch for program control
MySoftReset to reboot the phone
SKTools does help to a certain degree.. previously on my touch pro2, startup was slow, and running 6.5 (1st update) was a pain in the butt.. but i still loved the phone.. the clean up and optimise features of the SKTools really did help alot...

You sure? In another topic someone said the pocket mechanic is not working properly on the Mini due to the strange screen resolution.
which version of pocket mechanic you have use and do you any problem with resolution?
Well, the version I'm using now is for my Dell x30. I'm just wondering how many softwares are fully compatible with the Mini before going for it! I will wait until the prices drop a bit. I'm sure they're gonna fall by at least 20% just before winter season, when the pressure of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 will be at its high.
I don't want to throw too much money in since I think a fair price for this product is around 270/300 euros and, furthermore, I don't want a device too new, since a fine tuning is always underway when new products are released. What I'm doing now is to figure out which software works and which not. On an Italian forum I've read there's a patch that allows qvga sofware to run on this device, I'll try to grab more info.
Thanks
