8925 (AT&T Flip) is on the way

A coworker and I just got 8525's about 1 month ago....we finally complained loud enough to our AT&T rep and he is going to wave the 30 day return policy and take our old 8525's back and give us the new 8925's. Hopefully it'll be a good upgrade for us.
My main problem is we've already up graded to WM6. Should I "downgrade" to WM5 since that's what they came with our not worry about. I have not told him yet that we upgraded our phones but I also don't want to upset him since he is offering good customer support/service.
thanks,
Paul

True but I'd suggest installing the Official AT&T ROM....
very good point.. i overlooked that. on a sad note, this may be my last post in the hermes forum due to the fact that my baby boy tilt will be arriving tuesday or wensday!
(got it thru XBM ..they are now exchanging 8525s for 8925s if u've had 3 or more 8525s)
XBM? Gotta link?
XBM = Xchange By Mail, it is the warranty replacement department.
yes, and after 3 8525s u have the option to change to a different make a model. i pushed for the tilt saying its the most compitable with the 8525 they offered a 750v but i kept insisting on a tilt so they finally gave in.
great job on achieving the update! I bought my imate jasjam overseas so no update for me
i'm considering trading it in on importgsm.com but i'm not sure if i'll get more for it from them or wait till i head back to the middle east in december.
enjoy the kaiser! i can't wait till i get my hands on one for myself!
Thanks folks....Since I did not backup this unit before installing WM6, can anyone tell me which ROM I need to install so it'll be "factory fresh".
thanks again!

I think there is one still out there on the HTC website. I recently ordered a Tilt as well and should be coming in Wednesday.
Here is the link to download the Official WM6 download. I can't see why ATT would have problem exchanging it if it had the official WM6 release.
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU...502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
It's not the official WM6 release. It's some cooked one that I found on this site...Last night I dl'ed RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2_1_.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship
I'm hoping this is the right one. I'm kind of a newbie and I really don't want to brick this 8525 before I send it back.
8925 Exchange is real!
I co-sign Jakeypoo 100 percent! Today I called AT&T and complained about my 8525. Well, it's been my 3rd warranty exchange device and all I told the lady is that the problem I've been having is a chronic issue and that I would like a difference device. She put me on hold, then got back on the line and offered a Motorola Q, The Treo 750, and the 8925 as options. Of course I chose the 8925. They are sending me a brand new full kit too! To think I almost bought one three week ago too? The new device should be here on Friday so advice to you guys, if you've had a couple warranty replacements, call in and get your new Tilts!
Ok no my Q is After we make a Sprite Back Up
Wht if i Loose my Phone, But have saved the Sprite backed up from my Storage card on my PC in a Folder
So if damged or Lose my phone, wil Buy a NEW
If i put my Sprite Backup in a NEW Tilt phone & restore it,
will it make it Just like my OLD phone ?

T-Mobile UK Goes WM6 Official

This is probably well known by now but I've had a quick scan and can't see it mentioned anywhere on this forum but T-Mo UK have gone all official and published the WM6 update on their site.
http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/
I'm downloading it now so I don't have any details of what's in it or what versions everything is...but I will shortly
Cheers,
Smiffy.
..and finally for all those needing it, the original Tmobile UK WM5 Shipping ROM
About time too. Downloading, may try it but I am pretty happy with Schaps rom these days.....
Good news, please provide more info about the ROM when you get a chance...thx
anyone going to rip the radio out of this one and make it available for everyone else?
im assuming it should have some enhancements as its newer?
Working UK T-Mobile WM6
Works a treat, has all the basic ROM functions you expect with the Vario II.
ROM 3.60.110.4 Radio 1.50.00.00
Storage 38.89MB free Program 28.52MB free
X-button 1.0, Office 2k3, Internet sharing, blah-blah-blah.... So far so good.
Keep trying this update and keep getting Error 260, basically saying phone not connected. Have updated to Hardspl etc and all that worked, any ideas?
David

Sorry if this has been flagged but has anyone heard from T-Mobile UK to say if this "Official"? Everytime i e-mail them they give the same silly response saying "WM6 will not be available for the MDA Vario 2"

Thanks, that was a most useful post. I'd never seen it before you know. Totally passed me by.
The link I posted, however, takes you to the genuine T-Mobile website for downloading updates not a "stumbled-upon" HTC page, which means...
A) There is a link to the original WM5 ROM from T-Mob; and
b) People can see it is genuine and approved by T-Mobile as it is posted on their official update site.
Still, got your post count up a bit eh?
Smiffy.
THANKYOU!
to the person that pointed out this has been arround for a while... That is true (Ive been running it now for a few months)
HOWEVER this is FANTASTIC news in terms of no longer fearing that i will void my warentee if i upgrade to WM06.
time to update my sister and dad's varioII also.
Yes, this is the official TMUK downloads page. I work for TMUK and this is the site we are directed to when customers ask about updates for WM phones.
Hi all,
I've just put this build on my phone - thought I was going to have to get it replaced under warranty, but that's another story.
Anyway, you can find this build of software by navigating through the official T-Mobile UK web site, so it is official.
If you go to this link: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/phone-support/software-updates/
You'll see a link for MDA/SDA series devices, and this takes you to the site mentioned in the original post.
Also I had someone in a T-Mobile store check my phone out today, and they didn't make any comments regarding flashing. And I've had a few builds of radio and WM6 on the phone in the past few months!
The build looks pretty good so far - it seems very speedy compared to previous builds I've had on my phone, but then I haven't re-installed everything yet...
sparky
serial erro
it doesnt exept my serial code
why is that?! whats going on
RMO Lnk
Not sure. If you want the file click below.
http://www.mccreathcentral.com/TMobileUKROM.rar
It's worth having IMHO.... simple, works perfectly and supported. Not as quick as some of the fine ROMs in this forum, not as sexy neither, but you can go mod happy after you've given it a go...
Good luck,
Andy
WinMo6 NOT supported by T-Mobile Uk
HI there
I recently upgraded to WinMo6 off the T Mobile site and while it seems better than WinMo5 on the my Vario II, I had a couple of problems.
First, my screen goes white when I plug it into my car kit, something that never happened in WinMo5.
Secondly, Terminal Services Client has been removed. I have got Remote desktop from Xda developers but it still has problems.
So I thought I would contact T-Mobile to see if they have an official version of Remote Desktop and if they could help with the screen white thing.
After 5 mins of speaking to the CS, they finally realised it was a Vario and quickly passed me to Tech Support. I then had an interesting conversation with one of the girls there. She first implied that the upgrade was not official and T-Mobile UK have not released an upgrade. Then after that she then said that WinMo6 is NOT supported by T-Mobile. I told her that T-Mobile sell devices with WinMo6 installed and she said that on those devices T-Mobile only limited support them.
I left it at that and rang back to speak to a supervisor. The person I talked to was a bit more helpful. He said that the upgrade was actually released by mistake and there is talks within T-Mobile to pull the upgrade down to problems with stabilty in WinMo6!!! He said I should downgrade back to WinMo5 so the phone would be supported again!!
Personally, I think this is shocking on the part of T-Mobile. To release software with no support at all is bad. There is no disclaimer or statement saying that if you upgrade your phone will not be supported. Also after speaking to Tech Support a few times now and also to staff at T-Mobile Retail, the standard line of repair for faults on WinMo devices is a hard reset.
After all this, I'm wondering if it's just better to install a Unofficial ROM from someone who has spent time and effort to get the best out of an otherwise great phone and just downgrade for warranty purposes.

I dont know what t-mobiles stance is right now all i know just about is that WM6 isnt suppost to be supported on WM5 devices and that they were suppost to stay on WM5 untill they became end of life (EOL) on t-mobile, however i dont seem to have any issues with my Vario 2 on WM6 (was funny to see people reactions when i was messing with touch cube) Tech should already be trained on WM6 for MDA touch and vario 3 any how and it shouldnt be much different from WM5 any how (at least i think so) and dont bother talking to a retail store about anything that runs windows.... they will be like a chimpansee with parkinsons.

I agree, I updated mine to the official TMob WM6, as I needed to return for repair a faulty front button. I was speaking to a guy in technical and found he had the same phone. I mentioned I had upgraded to WM6; "Its not official, you have just voided your warranty!" I explained that it had come from the T-Mobile UK site; but he said the actual download was from the .com site. So it was not official.
Anyway, went down to T-Mobile store and booked in for repair. On the form I signed it even said its T-Mobile policy to upgrade all phones to latest version, so back your data up!!
They need to get their act together!
I upgraded to wm6 about a month back... all worked well the phone was a replacement about 3 months old. Then about a week ago the screen seemed to die after about 3 min after a hard reset. SO i sent it off and now have another new replacement. I am not sure if this was due in some way to WM6. Anyhow should i upgrade again.. i want touch cube can this be dome on wm5?

Q For developers : Android on htc hero OR on WM

Hi all ,
in my country HTC Distributor has no android phones yet and HTC Hero in some unique places is very expensive with no warranty , also any HTC with windows mobile is already exiest so what is more right decision if i want to develop for android :
1- buy HTC Hero , expensive and no warrenty
2- buy Any WindowsMobile HTC , with warrenty , and install android on it ?!
if ur answer is 2 , what is the best htc model for that ?!
Thanks Alot
I'm not a developer but I've read somewhere that you can install an immulator on your PC and run your applications on it as if it was running on a specific device. I think it also comes with a list of predefined devices, like Hero for example.
And it's FREE I think!
it's great to find some one to answer me , thank u
am already using the emulator but when u have real device it can make a difference
You won't get Android working perfectly on a Windows Mobile HTC Phone, the experienced wasn't specifically designed for that device therefore, you should get ALOT of force closes etc. I recommend investing in the Hero.
I would also recommend a Hero.
That being said, I ran Android on my HTC Vogue (the CDMA version of the Touch) for about a year before Telus got an Android device. It's damn near perfect. Contrary to what MysteryHero says, you don't get any force closes, it runs great. They've even got to the point now where Android can be flashed onto the phone instead of booting it off the SD card from WM. The only thing that doesn't work is BT audio. If you can live without that, I highly recommend a Vogue. Or a Hero, of course. But you could probably find a Vogue for a lot cheaper on eBay or something.

Do note that the GSM version of HTC Vogue, which is known as the HTC touch is not able to run on android. ( I used to use a HTC Touch)

why don't you get it online? eBay for example..

Any android phone will be the best option.
DO NOT get a WM phone instead, hoping that it will give you a perfect Android experience. That will just not happen.
I refuse to believe you cannot get your hand on a HTC android phone way one or the other.
And in regard to your signature:
It should be "learning" not "leraning".

[Q] HTC Desire Fully Functional in India

I am about to buy a new HTC Desire from Grey Market as i am tired of waiting for the Official Launch.
Just wanted to know from existing users of HTC Desire in India that will the phone work to its full potential in india?
I mean will i be able to access Android Software Market ? I am big time fan of Live wallpapers, will i able to download and use Live Wallpapers in India?
what does live wallpapers have to do with which country you are in ?
and you wont be able to access paid apps in the market.
besides that it will work or say will be "fully functional".
and if you are buying a phone just for the live wallpapers then i would suggest going for something like a basic Sony Ericsson handset. They have live wallpapers
I know it has got nothing to do with Country, but Live wallpapers doesnt come pre loaded, What i meant by asking this was that will i be able to download Free live wallpapers from Android software market accessible from desire itself
Well thanks for the answer, and i personally dont like samsung and sony ericsson and i quite like the UI of Desire
dude you will be able to do everything tht a person can do using a desire in an officially launched country .. so just go for it .....
dude, i am using the desire for almost 2 months...its fine...
infact i today upgraded it to froyo 2.2.
( you may get only hk or sg version, which you may have to convert to european version to get the upgrade).
Im using the HTC Desire, I live in India (Hyderabad), no problems, everything works fine and to its full potential!
Its one of the best phones out if not THE best!
Thanks everyone for assuring me that i should go ahead and buy it right away
Just one more query, is there anything that i need to check before buying the phone?
Like make, Branded or unbranded...
Working fine in Pakistan

Make : HTC
you dont get branded phones in India ... branded generally refers to being locked down to one carrier .. for example the iPhone in the US ... its locked down to AT&T ...
all phones sold in India are unbranded(to the best of my knowledge) ...
Go for factory unlocked
Rupinder, I am using a factory unlocked gsm htc desire for the last 1 month and am quite happy with it except for the underwhelming battery life. Received OTA Froyo update too last Monday
DO NOT go for branded phones that have been rooted and flashed by the dealer ... many of them are having problems.
I bought mine from eBay and am quite happy with the deal.
Best of luck!
I have been using Desire in India with BSNL 3G for past 3 months. I bought it off eBay and I think it's Singapore build. Anyway, my point is, it works flawlessly.
Nice to see All izz Well. But what about Sat navigation
Hey guys,
Good to see Desire working with full bells and whisles here. Especially being able to do the OTA 2.2 update.
I am currently having touch HD and trying out android 2.1 with sense build. Just awesome. Just to get my hands dirty with android first. I intend to buy Desire within couple of days. Just cant imagine with a 1ghz processor how cool it will be.
I was mostly evaluating my applications and seeing if I have alternatives in the android market. Most of it is okay
But - sat navigation. I currently use Satguide in india which is basically Destinator. Infact I was able to use Destinator9 with indian maps and it works great. But in android area, there is no satguide product available yet. I saw MapMyIndia has an android compatible version but has anybody used it yet?
I am currently trying Brut Google Navigation (not google maps, the US google navigation version) to navigate and it really does navigation in india very well just like in US. Only drawback: needs data connection.
So what do you guys use. Just need to tie out this loose end before I order my Desire
Anup
before you order the desire consider whether the crap 147mb of internal memory available for use on the desire is adequate for you. or consider alternatives like the samsung galaxy s (which is very different from prev samsung phones and hardware is much better than the desire).
i have two desire phones btw and am pissed off about the awful memory allowed for actual use in internal memory. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7549566#post7549566 for more details.
see the links on this link for details of hardware on the samsung galaxy s and it blows the desire out of the water in terms of hardware specs. http://www.electricpig.co.uk/samsungsmartphone/galaxys
if you are into gaming then the desire is like a bullock cart compared the the galaxy s due to graphics processing differences. see youtube comparison videos for gaming and video benchmarks and also screen performance under direct sunlight etc.
ps: i havent actually used the samsung galaxy s. just a cautionary note!
the desire hd should be out in october i think. some phones with tegra 2 chips are on the way which should be better than the chips on the samsung galaxy s, but that might be a few months away though.
Kindly let me know the best dealer from Ebay to buy my Htc Desire.
Preferably in New Delhi

hello, your Desire will not be branded.. thanks to the people (and me) who had complained about the 1.24.161.3 uptade (vodafone branded, very buggy & slow!)
enjoy the phone, dont root or do anything with it as it is your first android phone so it would be very likely to brick the phone if you do not read & or know enough
I am pretty sure you will have 2.2, however 2.1 is not that bad so no poit messing around with the phone to get 720p etc.. for me- it made no differace, just wanted the horrible branding off!
nice to see someone live close to me.. never saw anyone clocer than london..
hope this helps & enjoy the phone

welcome, to the dark side !!
thank you all... that would be sweet if its not branded like my tp2 was....
im inbetween slutton & croydon and work in east london atm.
ive heard alot of good things about android, only every really had a lil play with 1 or 2 android phones in the shops, couldnt test the internet ect...
but i wasnt keen on flashing my phones, must be why i got so annoyed with the tp2.
i will check out the link posted, and i will probly be posting up about more stuff if i cant find it in the search function.
You wouldn't be dissappointed with the Desire, infact, you wouldn't be dissapointed with any of hTC's android phones, especially unbranded ones. I strongly suggest you to flash a custom rom tho, they are quicker and more efficient than stock roms and should lengthen your battery life compared to normal stock roms.
Well I hope you will enjoy the phone, and have fun in the Desire forum
started using my desire last night, havnt evan had time to set anything up on it, i need to get used to the touch screen, soo used to having touch & type lol
have installed a few things such ass whatapp & juice defender because the people i work with rate that app highly with there galaxy S's
