long story short... i have my old xv6700 with a shattered screen that contains all my numbers and since my touch vogue was just stolen its my last hope to avoid losing over 300 contacts... is there anything i can do or use to read the contacts n whatnot off my old phone with a shattered screen? is there anything that can read pim.vol files from a wm5 and convert to wm6/6.1 rom?

What if you plug in via usb, which gives you access to the main filesystem, and place one of those remote-management tools in the startup folder? This is just an idea, but I bet you could blindly install the app. Not sure if you can just read the pim file though...

maybe I'm missing something, but have you tried activesync?

I just re-read the topic... and all you need is the contacts? Then yes, ActiveSync would be easiest!
Also, let this be a lesson to you--back up your stuff!

If you just want to overwrite OS, look in the wiki for flashing from the microSD card. Go into booloader, press the power button to confirm the flash.
Problem is, of course, you wont be able to see if it has really worked.....

Can someone please help me out?
I've been using Jeyo Mobile Extender with my Dash (S620) and i switched over from WM5 to WM6. Since then, I have a bunch of duplicate messages in my Outlook folder, as well as a bunch of random unread sent messages. Any way of deleting duplicate messages as a whole?

What you do is:
1. Download all yr messages to yr outlook.
2. Spring clean whatever you don't need
3. Copy yr messages back to device

used active sync and lost contacts

Hi all,
I'm in serious trouble. I just used active sync 4.5 to sync my hermes to a new install of Outlook and have lost all my contacts.
Is there anything I can do to get these back? I'm using binky's verion 3.9 and version .25c of pocket cm..
I have no backup of the contacts, unfortunately... Am I in serious trouble and lost the lot?
Mmmm. This happpened to me a long time ago. One of the causes is that the date of your new outlook (date of your system) was younger than the date of what was on your PDA. The system thinks that you erased all in outlook and makes the modifications on the PDA accordingly. Moreover, most of the time the sync is in the mode "replacing the elements on the PDA". You end with all your contacts lost.
In my case, when i sync a new flash on the PDA, i take care that the date of the PDA is older than the date of my PC (just change the "year" for ex.) So outlook will update my PDA and nothing is lost. Moreover, when I do that, i copy the "outlook" directory (in user/yourname/appdata/local/microsoft. You have to enable the seeing of hidden files) somewhere. So i have at least a backup.
I believe you cannot recover your data unless you had a backup. But i am not an expert
Hope this helps
Are you sure your contacts isn't in the "deleted" folder in Outlook?
This is why everybody always says. Watch what you are doing and take a backup. When it was asking you what to do. You should have choose to combine items on both devices.
The only way now is to check in the deleted folder of outlook if you have not already reinstalled office. Or the only way is to check if you have any contacts left in your sim.
Or better to start over in getting all the contacts from the persons you meet. Hope you didn't lost the number you met in the club last night.
Chill
The funny thing is that I didn't get the usual popup asking the question if I wanted to combine like one does when first time syncing. I figured it kept my previous sync's data with the phone. Thought I had a backup but don't.
I got my backup working eventually...
All back working... Thanks for the comments.
i just had the same thing happen to me last night. i loaded a new system and put office on it and synced it to my phone and all gone. i really really hate activesync. i really wish there was a good alternative.
Pim Backup. 2.8 is the latest version. You will never lose your contacts again.
Pim backup is slightly different to Activesync though. It is more of a static backup (though you may be able to schedule backups).
Its always good though, to use a backup program as well as activesync for these little accidents that happen.
Pim Backup is faster (I have about 700 contacts), easier to use and eliminates all the problems you get when you have a new flash. It is my choice to use and many others. I no longer sync my contacts with ActiveSync. Oh yeah - I store my pim backups on my SD card.
ms = s&*^
yeap new laptop then connected my htc and now want to bin all ms disk and apps i have, i can dream but need it for my work , unfortanly they now have a box that says ok no sinc but no contacts as i have had above problem but unticked the box to get round it before but no ms have f^&* that up now u dont even have to sync it to lose them well done ms.. fyi all ms serport to rant to cost £1.50 a min lol this is a big joke and its not funny "im a pc and i wish i could have linux" although ms is now going the way of self develipment as there help site is just others that are in the same boat and try to fix ms problems ow and yes no backup well on a working pc that is, any one know how to rip off old hdd? come on team linux, now i have no contacts, going to have a look at that pda google linux on here from what i remember looks good allthough i will lose copilot
ow any one want to join a jount law sute under the banner of dpa (fail to handle personal data responsably) and lose of time at cost of wages and extra programs to protect agenst this problem, i think each of us at one pount has lost a fuw hours with this and maby even lost custom becouse of this, that big contract that you bump in to that key giy get his info and now no lead companys can not be allowed to make such programs as to be poor function. i would be so mad at my self if i had made this program with out redundance or thort. anyway rant over any help with old hdd out look rescue i would be most greatfull
I agree, I use Pim Backup to my storage card every time before I flash a new ROM. It even saves all your call history as well as calendar and contacts

help i lost my contacts in a cdma mogul

hi, i have the stock wm6 in the mogul and i got it wet, later, i just changed the battery, because it was damaged, then i searched my contacts and none of them the guy who i bought the battery, he told me that inside there is a backup of your contacts, the things is that i don't find them, please help, thanks
While this really isn't the right forum (Mogul is the HTC Titan, not the Hermes), I can tell you that, unless you've synced your contacts to a computer or an Exchange server, they are most likely lost.
If you had a backup program (PIM Backup) running periodically doing backups to an SD card, then your contacts may be there inside the .pib backup file.
Maybe you should have written them all down on a piece of paper

basic questions

after owning the phone for a month and having just had it replaced due to screen/battery issues
thought before i do anything to it i would find out
what is the easy way to back up the full device before altering files for hacks etc (didnt do this first time around)
and how do i stop my contact pics coming up in the albu, photos
thanks for any help
for the backing up thing. You can only backup files and data. So no settings. (maybe with exensive programs) So when something goes wrong you do a hard reset, and restore the data and files. You should backup programs on your PC.
Search the ofrum for: PPCPimBackup. This is freeware backupsoftware that works very well. It backsup you email, sms, agenda, notes and contact. (The files on you SD card won't get lost by a hard reset).
Can't awnser you question ATM about hte contact pics. Don't have the phone, still waiting for the replacement.
I personally use Sprite Backup, which worked very well for me in the past. They have some special for HTC owners right now, so you might want to look into that (http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-backup-htc-special). I suggest, you try both (PPCPimBackup and SpriteBackup) and see what works best for you.

Why do you want to do that before any tweaks?
In that case just give it a hard reset and it will be back to the first time you booted it.
Take care with backup/restore on different devices.
If the ROM versions aren't the same, you can get strange behaviour with your device.
And even if they are the same, some programs didn't restore well on another (same) device.
SPB backup worked well
But I can't say which is the best, maybe sprite has some other advantages

Change language & Contacts Question

I'm sorry if these are known question, I'm not an HTC Tilt 2 owner.
My dad owns this phone, I'd like to change the language to Spanish but nothing seems to do it. Any ideas?
Also he got a replacement phone as he wet his last one. What is the easiest way to transfer contacts? I downloading the Windows program but I think I need Outlook which I stay far away from. Is there any other way?
Thanks!

Unless he backed up his phone, ie. Sprite or kept his contact info on the sim card you will just have to manually build back his contact list.
