hi, i have the stock wm6 in the mogul and i got it wet, later, i just changed the battery, because it was damaged, then i searched my contacts and none of them the guy who i bought the battery, he told me that inside there is a backup of your contacts, the things is that i don't find them, please help, thanks
While this really isn't the right forum (Mogul is the HTC Titan, not the Hermes), I can tell you that, unless you've synced your contacts to a computer or an Exchange server, they are most likely lost.
If you had a backup program (PIM Backup) running periodically doing backups to an SD card, then your contacts may be there inside the .pib backup file.
Maybe you should have written them all down on a piece of paper

I have an SX66 and I dropped it in a cup of water, dried it out overnite tried to get it to work no luck.
Cingular is sending me out a new for $225 but in the meantime I need access to my contacts and such. I stored a backup on an SD card awhile back and I was wondering if there was a program that would allow me to look at the info and maybe put it into Outlook in the meantime.
If you wondering why I didn't have it synced and backed up on a computer the reason is cause the water got spilled on the device while I was reformatting the computer I sync it with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi!
I've been researching the last, dunno, 6hours or so...
I'm quite desperate now, so here's what's up:
-I use a HTC BlueAngel (MDA III)
-made a full backup with ActiveSync (I knooow I should have used whatever 3rd party backup tool... too f**ing late)
-successfully upgraded the system to "Helmi_WM2k5_AKU3.2_32mb_v1.3.2_16mb_bitpool_32mbRamdisk"
-been happy for like 5 minutes
-so I started to get my contacts and calendar restored (still had all my files/pictures - cool)
and then it struck me: ActiveSync 4.x cannot restore these infos to the WM5 system!!
Sooo, after some diggin' on the net I finally got "MobileVault"...
I thought, yipeee, I have succesfully exported my Contacts Database and Appointments Database to my PC...
(I just opened my backup.stg and opened WinCE Databases, selected Contacts Database - which I attached - and exported okay)
Meanwhile (on a remote island in the Pacific... =P) I found out, that both Contacts and Appointments are stored in the "pim.vol" in WM5.
(also attached that)
Well, let's just put'em in there then...
Khmmm... so... put-em-in... Nope. Not workin'.
Also I've been playing around with conveting the exported Contacts DB file into CSV (comma separated format) and importing to Outlook.
Annoying is, that I see the stuff what I need... but it's over 200 entries with 2-6 data each! (don't bother multiplying: it' a LOT)
Only problem was that there doesn't seem to be a recognisable logic in the order of the data... Once the email address is first and name is like 5th, then mobile number is first, etc...
Cannot import to Outlook.
PLEASE! I soooooo don't want to reinstall the PPC2003 again just to export the stuff into outlook and back again.
There MUST be somekind of solution. I feel I'm pretty close to the solution, but I'm just too tired to continue right now.
I'll also try attach as many as possible.
Thanks for any help in advance!
i have same problem...and im unlucky one cos...i upgrade my sx66 device from wm2003 to wm5 and can u imagine...after i upgrade my PC OS crushes down...so all my sync gone...so i have on storage backup files maked with permament save before...so im wandering can i pull them back somehow...i need my contacts (
This is a culmination of my previous threads. I've realised I'm not going to get an answer to each of my current problems so I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch. Which is just what I needed.
Summary of my problems:
- Speed dial numbers tell me the number doesn't exist, but then calls it anyway
- Can't add new speed dial numbers
- Can't add new contacts full stop
- MSN doesn't work
- Can't sync contacts (or anything for that matter)
So I am going to hard reset - but my problem is I need a way to back up my contacts, I don't want to be manually typing in dozens upon dozens of names and numbers. I have tried PPCPimBackup, but this doesn't seem to back up those stored on my SIM (most of my contacts are on my SIM). I can't find a way to move my contacts to the phone from the SIM - "Save to contacts" in SIM Manager tells me it was successfully added, but it wasn't - there is no Outlook version of that contact.
What can I do about this? Is there a way I can back up my contacts, bearing in mind that syncing doesn't seem to copy them onto my computer and PPCPimBackup only seems to back up Outlook contacts? I do have an SPB Backup of my PIM stuff from when I was on WM5, but that's what has caused this problem, trying to restore it. I have tried searching these forums for other ways to back them up but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Is there a program that can read PIM.vol?
What on earth should I do? Or is physically writing down all my 100+ contacts then typing them in (and losing all my stored SMS) my only option?
Device: O2 XDA Orbit, as out of the box in July, then upgraded to WM6 with the O2 official thing.
Computer: Vista Ultimate x32, Outlook 2007.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but surly if your numbers are on your SIM they shouldn't be effected by a hard reset.
If your worried take the sim out before you try it??
hard reset won't remove anything from your SIM
Hi all,
I'm in serious trouble. I just used active sync 4.5 to sync my hermes to a new install of Outlook and have lost all my contacts.
Is there anything I can do to get these back? I'm using binky's verion 3.9 and version .25c of pocket cm..
I have no backup of the contacts, unfortunately... Am I in serious trouble and lost the lot?
Mmmm. This happpened to me a long time ago. One of the causes is that the date of your new outlook (date of your system) was younger than the date of what was on your PDA. The system thinks that you erased all in outlook and makes the modifications on the PDA accordingly. Moreover, most of the time the sync is in the mode "replacing the elements on the PDA". You end with all your contacts lost.
In my case, when i sync a new flash on the PDA, i take care that the date of the PDA is older than the date of my PC (just change the "year" for ex.) So outlook will update my PDA and nothing is lost. Moreover, when I do that, i copy the "outlook" directory (in user/yourname/appdata/local/microsoft. You have to enable the seeing of hidden files) somewhere. So i have at least a backup.
I believe you cannot recover your data unless you had a backup. But i am not an expert
Hope this helps
Are you sure your contacts isn't in the "deleted" folder in Outlook?
This is why everybody always says. Watch what you are doing and take a backup. When it was asking you what to do. You should have choose to combine items on both devices.
The only way now is to check in the deleted folder of outlook if you have not already reinstalled office. Or the only way is to check if you have any contacts left in your sim.
Or better to start over in getting all the contacts from the persons you meet. Hope you didn't lost the number you met in the club last night.
Chill
The funny thing is that I didn't get the usual popup asking the question if I wanted to combine like one does when first time syncing. I figured it kept my previous sync's data with the phone. Thought I had a backup but don't.
I got my backup working eventually...
All back working... Thanks for the comments.
i just had the same thing happen to me last night. i loaded a new system and put office on it and synced it to my phone and all gone. i really really hate activesync. i really wish there was a good alternative.
Pim Backup. 2.8 is the latest version. You will never lose your contacts again.
Pim backup is slightly different to Activesync though. It is more of a static backup (though you may be able to schedule backups).
Its always good though, to use a backup program as well as activesync for these little accidents that happen.
Pim Backup is faster (I have about 700 contacts), easier to use and eliminates all the problems you get when you have a new flash. It is my choice to use and many others. I no longer sync my contacts with ActiveSync. Oh yeah - I store my pim backups on my SD card.
ms = s&*^
yeap new laptop then connected my htc and now want to bin all ms disk and apps i have, i can dream but need it for my work , unfortanly they now have a box that says ok no sinc but no contacts as i have had above problem but unticked the box to get round it before but no ms have f^&* that up now u dont even have to sync it to lose them well done ms.. fyi all ms serport to rant to cost £1.50 a min lol this is a big joke and its not funny "im a pc and i wish i could have linux" although ms is now going the way of self develipment as there help site is just others that are in the same boat and try to fix ms problems ow and yes no backup well on a working pc that is, any one know how to rip off old hdd? come on team linux, now i have no contacts, going to have a look at that pda google linux on here from what i remember looks good allthough i will lose copilot
ow any one want to join a jount law sute under the banner of dpa (fail to handle personal data responsably) and lose of time at cost of wages and extra programs to protect agenst this problem, i think each of us at one pount has lost a fuw hours with this and maby even lost custom becouse of this, that big contract that you bump in to that key giy get his info and now no lead companys can not be allowed to make such programs as to be poor function. i would be so mad at my self if i had made this program with out redundance or thort. anyway rant over any help with old hdd out look rescue i would be most greatfull
I agree, I use Pim Backup to my storage card every time before I flash a new ROM. It even saves all your call history as well as calendar and contacts
I uninstalled the YouMail app and it DELETED a few of my blocked callers from my contact list in the phone, and I now have no Idea what those numbers were. I tried using an application on my PC to read the contacts, and the missing/deleted ones, but all I see are red squares for the missing contact names and numbers (used potatoshare android contacts recovery) so that's not any help.
I have a few NANDROID Backups (Clockworkmod) which when they were done, the contacts were still in the contact list.
if I restore the Nandroid backup file, would the contacts be still visible? Would Google automatically delete them?
I really need to get those deleted contacts back. If anyone has a way to accomplish this, please add to this thread!
Mahalo (Thank you) and Aloha!
I'm pretty sure if you Restore the Nandroid back up, you would still get those deleted contacts. Make a Nandroid back up first before restoring. After restoring, export contacts to sd card / sim card/ which ever you like. You can then restore your recent Nandroid and find the exported contacts on your sd card.:victory:

I tried the Restore, but the contacts were somehow sync'd with Gmail or Google or something, and the missing contacts that were in the Nandroid were again MIA!
I then shutdown and removed my sim card, and turned off my wireless router and restored the same "Known-Good" Nandroid and found all the contacts (including the ones that would be deleted after sync'ing Occurs)
I then exported the contacts and reverted to the last (today's) nandroid and imported the contacts. The Nandroid recoveries etc. take soooo much time! Somehow CWM ain't the fastest horse in the race here... For now though, seems ok, but dk if it'll stay that way.
Google had a message like "too many deleted contacts" so I'm not sure what's what.
I also printed a list of the missing ones, so all else failing, I will just have to manually re-enter the missing contacts.
Sounds like one hellava way to get next door by going around the world! LOL
Thanks for your response! Have a great day!

Yes I do know it's copying a lot of files, but not billions, and I also know that TWRP copies the same data MARKEDLY FASTER.
Even with that, I somehow trust CWM a tad more with my data LOL (Slow, but WORKS!!!) LOL
Thanks again!
