Phone is jiggered after WM6 upgrade, what are my options? - P3300, MDA Compact III General

This is a culmination of my previous threads. I've realised I'm not going to get an answer to each of my current problems so I'm going to have to hard reset and start from scratch. Which is just what I needed.
Summary of my problems:
- Speed dial numbers tell me the number doesn't exist, but then calls it anyway
- Can't add new speed dial numbers
- Can't add new contacts full stop
- MSN doesn't work
- Can't sync contacts (or anything for that matter)
So I am going to hard reset - but my problem is I need a way to back up my contacts, I don't want to be manually typing in dozens upon dozens of names and numbers. I have tried PPCPimBackup, but this doesn't seem to back up those stored on my SIM (most of my contacts are on my SIM). I can't find a way to move my contacts to the phone from the SIM - "Save to contacts" in SIM Manager tells me it was successfully added, but it wasn't - there is no Outlook version of that contact.
What can I do about this? Is there a way I can back up my contacts, bearing in mind that syncing doesn't seem to copy them onto my computer and PPCPimBackup only seems to back up Outlook contacts? I do have an SPB Backup of my PIM stuff from when I was on WM5, but that's what has caused this problem, trying to restore it. I have tried searching these forums for other ways to back them up but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Is there a program that can read PIM.vol?
What on earth should I do? Or is physically writing down all my 100+ contacts then typing them in (and losing all my stored SMS) my only option?
Device: O2 XDA Orbit, as out of the box in July, then upgraded to WM6 with the O2 official thing.
Computer: Vista Ultimate x32, Outlook 2007.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but surly if your numbers are on your SIM they shouldn't be effected by a hard reset.
If your worried take the sim out before you try it??

hard reset won't remove anything from your SIM

3 Simple Questions - Please Help!

1. I know I can import Contact information from SIM card to device, but is there any way I can do the reverse since over time contacts changes?
(I have a back-up phone which is nothing more then just a plain ole' Samsung - so if ever I need to switch from my BA device to the phone I have an updated phone book on my SIM card)
2. Recently the battery came off my phone for a few short seconds while in a purse. Upon putting it back on I realized the phone did a hard reset! (I don't know why either!) The purse was practically empty (two wallets and receipts) and had nothing in it that could have started the reset. When I got home and tried to sync, ActiveSync coudln't recognize the phone and wanted to start a new partnership. Anything I can do in the future to prevent this from occuring again - Activesync not recognizing the phone?? I had to delete the partership the computer and start over.
3. In Outlook I have two Contacts list (1 personal and 1 business). I would like to keep them seperate but it seems like Activesync will only sync one contact list at a time. I know I can assign categories and sort them but life is easier keeping them seperate. Any way to do this or a program that wil do this?
THANKS!!!
BUMP!!!
Sorry to do this but some one out there can answer at least one of these questions right???
THANKS!

I have an MDA compact (Magician), and there I can simply mark the contacts I want to copy to the SIM in my list of contacts, then tap-n-hold and select "Save to SIM".

Yes. Make sure that you regularily do backups using Active Sync. Then, next time a hard reset happens, connect your PocketPC to the PC and choose Guest Partnership. Now, just go to Extras - Save/Restore in Active Sync, and restore a backup. After the restore completed, disconnect the PocketPC, soft-reset it, then re-connect. It will now simply use your old partnership.

I do not know of any way to do that. Maybe someone else does - if yes, I would also be very interested!

First, yes, you can have 2 separate contact lists in Outlook. Just create new folder "that will contain contacts" or something to that effect.
Next, download the MS add-on that will let you sync 2 lists. Maybe part of the powertoys or something like that. Definitely out there. Seen it.
Outlook Add In
Thanks....Tadzio!!! Your info was a real big help!!
Has any one heard or found this Outlook add in? I searched all over Microsoft's website and couldn't find it???
What is a power toy??
Thanks!

ActiveSync4.5 & Contacts problem

Hello. I've checked the previous pages and didn't see anyone having the same question. That probably means i am the only one so dumb in here)))
Basically, last night i was playing with overclocking my XDA Orbit being insured that all the contacts are syncronized. At some point (273MHz) the device stopped responding so i had to soft reset it. Later i found that nothing got lost BUT my contact list with all the numbers. Next, I open Outlook and see that none of them were saved there. WTF is ActiveSync is doing then? And another problem is that i cannot use backup of my old WM2003 contact list because there is no such option as Backup/Restore in WM6. Any ideas? Please,HELP. I really need those numbers back...

The contacts in the Orbit are gone...
The contacts in the Outlook not sync'ed hence they too gone...
Cannot import 2003 backup into WM6 - different structure
Option 1 - if you have old outlook backup - you can re-import into new outlook file and they re-sync again
Option 2 - Manually enter all the numbers you remember
Option 3 - Nothing
Basically the fact is if you cannot see the contacts in the fone - they are gone! If you cannot see in outlook they are gone - only option is to get from another source!
You mentioned 2003 backup - what did you take the backup with? Maybe you can still read using the same software and try to retrieve the number - or use another 2003 model to import into it
The backup was taken using Backup/Restore feature of WM2003. But I really wonder now, WHY Microsoft decided not to include this option in WM6? If anything happens, you're properly f****d, like me now.
BTW, WM2003 Contact list backup can be accessed with Notepad, but the data looks a bit messy that way.

Am not in the same situation...was letting you know your options....
Good luck with the retrieval...
don't take it personally, i meant "You" in general
I analyzed the chain of events and it seems like i found the root of the problem. It's was nothing to do with overclocking or the device itself. Its ActiveSync. As I usually don't use Outlook, the contact list there was always empty. And this blessed child of Microsoft instead of copying contacts from XDA to Outlook did it other way round thus erasing everything on the phone. Don't know what to do, laugh or cry, but it's so... so... ridicilous!
Thanx for your help anyway, much appreciated

Contacts conundrum

Hi, I have been searching for a solution to this all week so sorry if I've missed something...
I have my TP2 ROM version Euro 1.19.401.1 running the SMS Hotfix.
I was using Sprite Backup ver 6.5.4 build 14 on my Kaiser. When I got the TP2 I used the Sprite Backup saved on my SD Card to move my contacts and IE bookmarks across which seemed to work fine.
All my contacts are there and I can select and dial/sms them with no problems.
However when people call/sms me it doesn't show the contacts name - only the number.
I have discovered that if I go to a contact, edit it and then without changing any details click done it will show me the person who is calling/sms.
I really don't want to have to open and close the hundreds of contacts on my device - does anyone have a work around for this ?
Also - does your TP2 have a lens built into the battery cover - mine came with none (I can put the stylus through the back with no problem) and I'm wondering if this isn't just going to cause it to fill with unmentionables
I read elsewhere that Diamond2 units are also suffering from the caller ID issue, even a hard reset to factory defaults won't help.
As for the lens cover - it's on back of the device and not on the back cover.

[Q] Problems with contacts "linked" and messed up numbers

Hi all,
for a while back I had a problem with my Desire where it suddenly started asking for my PIN code continuously, loosing connections and all. I did a full reset on the phone then synced it with my PC again (Outlook 2007).
After this I don't know what's happened but all phone numbers that used to be in international format, i.e. +31631231231 turned into numbers like 31631231231, i.e. without the +, and in a number of cases spaces were added, making it look like 31 631231231. Some of these seem to work as they are, but many are giving me error when I try to call the contact or send an sms or so.
In addition I noticed that many of my contacts somehow are doubles, linked to eachother
No idea how this happened or why, anybody who does? And, more importantly, anybody who knows how to solve it?
Cheers
//Joris
Did I run into a unique problem (again) ?
i would do from scratch, write all contacts down and delete all contacts on phone, and retype them as google contacts.
with over 250 contacts...
What's the advantage with Google contacts over SIM/Phone contacts?
One part of the problem might be that the phone during it's previous installation at some point imported info from Facebook as well I think - sucks.
i feel the pain
advantage is: better sync **** etc.....

[Q] HTC Tilt 2 TouchFLO crashing due to contacts update

My AT&T HTC Tilt 2 is nearly a year old now, and I've recently run into a very irritating problem. Every time I try to use the "Update Now" feature (Contacts -> Updates and Events tab -> Menu -> Update Now) to update contacts' Facebook pictures and whatnot, the entire UI crashes and has to reload. No error messages or anything like that at all; the screen simply freezes for 15-30 seconds and the HTC Launching TouchFLO 3D screen comes up.
This issue has expanded to encompass any time I try to edit a contact (on that note, the "Link to Facebook account" button no longer does anything except cause TouchFLO to crash) or even open the Updates and Events tab.
I'm still using the same ROM that came with the phone (hard reset once or twice, so essentially the same thing), meaning Windows Mobile 6.5. Like I previously mentioned, I'm using the TouchFLO 3D UI (my attempt to update to the Sense UI went terribly).
Is there anything I can do to fix this, aside from hard resetting again? I've got a lot of contacts (more than will fit on my SIM card, in fact), and I'd really rather not go through all the steps of personalizing my phone for a third time if I don't have to. It'll be like November before I'm eligible for an upgrade with AT&T, so that's not a viable option right now, as much as I might like it to be.
Another side note: Using Windows Mobile Device Center, is there a way to basically copy all of my contacts and whatnot from my phone to my computer without adding in the contacts from Outlook? I'd really rather not deal with a bunch of random email addresses sitting in my phone's contact list. If this is possible, I may just try to use this method, hard reset, and then put the contacts back on the phone. The rest of the personalization isn't nearly as time-consuming as adding in another 80-ish contacts and then fixing the names of the ones I managed to fit onto the SIM card (because the SIM card saves them in the format of "Smith, John" in the last name field and nothing in the first name field...).
I've also got a 16GB microSD card, if that would be of any benefit in any of these endeavors.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!
Any ideas?
Not sure about all your facebook issues, but a great, quick and easy program that can save and restore contacts anywhere (including your storage card, if you like) is PIM Backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1189061&postcount=1
I use it all the time since I flash daily and I NEVER have any problems restoring my 200+ contacts using PIM Backup.
