cool and unique things you've done with dash - HTC Excalibur

tell of a special thing/concept (i.e. not incredibly common, or done by 4yr olds) you've done or discovered with your dash. explain in brief but diplomatic terms (not like a 4yrold) I go first
I like wififofum as a network scanner (just introduced to it recently). you can analyze and even map with a triangulation the source of a wifi signal. how's that for useful. dash is a tiny unassuming ppc, but it rules

I put together a ROM from scratch for it... lol

I discovered that in vibrate mode that the dash feels kinda funny in my pocket when someone calls!

I use mine as a portable heater, OC it to 400Mhz and it keeps me warm on theses cold dayz.

Currently my dash does multiple things, its a game machine, a paperweight and a dial up machine all in one!!!

arggh? me feels primitive.

on a serious note, I must try your brew, chilled. So do you have a lite version yet? Im all for adding stuff maself, although kavana rom has been real good to me, I feel the wind of dashventure calling. oh yes

woa, got the buttons confused. I read on your rom a while ago, is there a lite version done?, because as you brought it up, I didn't make a rom for my phone (the whole arggh thing comes to mind -read comment). *ps. This is a sad exercise in correcting what should of been a reply post and it feels great. ahhh!

Buying it was an amazing move!!! then installing Kavana 080408

YESSS! such an oprah moment, I feel the same. Just jiving about the O, but this little work of micron love strums the strings in me. And btw, if any of you know how to use wififofum well (not like a 4yrold), help me. (here's the prize: go to lastfm and type in thiaz itch -I checked the spelling- and enjoy the free downloads. If and when you decide to like this, you're welcome)

I been using my dash for everything from gaming to doing excel spreadsheets etc... so in the long run it is the most useful thing I know... its like my second PC

2 Words = Extended Battery

I use mine all the time when my G1 pisses me off to the point where I just need reliability.
I guess my answer would be "I use it as a phone" (which in today's society is actually rare )

You use the dash as a phone, whats wrong with you man? lol i have to admit when i pick up my dash i sigh a little bit. The best phone ive ever had including the g1. Gaming on dash is awesome, but its also a really reliable phone. Even if i had an iphone, g1 and diamond i wouldnt part with it!

cool
I'll tell you what I've done that's cool and unique, maybe even amazing, is I have turned my dash into my girlfriend (my wife's words)she says between modding and the forum, I spend as much time with the phone as I do with her. hehe

[]I need your valued opinion on a phone recommendation for my brother.

I'll do this like a patient case workup:
Patient: My brother
Occupation: Medical Student
Previous Phone: Blackberry Curve 8300 with Data Plan (it was a refurb that died)
Age: 25
Data Usage: on a scale from 1-10, maybe a 3-4 emailing a little bit and some google searches
Network: ATT
Computer: iBook
Location: Philadelphia
Type of Phone Experience: a complete Monkey, my Jack Russell Terrier probably knows more about phones than my brother, lol but once he learns the basics he's alright
Requirements:
0. OS: whichever one can manage all the steps below easy, maybe RIM, S60, WM, iPhone, willing to pay up to $300-$400
1. Long battery life at least 10-12hrs
2. Qwerty keyboard
3. Email - a university email and a gmail account
4. SMS/MMS
5. MicroSd memory for pics and video
6. GPS or A-GPS with pedestrian view
7. Maybe Exchange support, his last sim card got corrupted and you know what happened
Icing on the cake
1. Facebook
2. MySpace
so what do you guys think, I'm thinking maybe a Nokia, maybe a Blackjack II, but I'd like to have your opinion, you guys are the best and one of most knowledgeable groups I know
Thanks in advance for chiming in.
maybe
have you looked into the G1 or the new touch screen blackberry? those both look pretty promising. the dash/excalibur is a good phone too. the iPhone doesnt' have micro sd support if i'm not mistaken but it would probably be most compatible with his computer.
Not wanting to sound like a pariah in this windowsmobile forum, I would suggest a Nokia E71, about to be launched in ATT. Simple and does all these needs, good camera, 3.2 MP, and decent sound.
I myself am a windowsmobile person, on ATT, with BJ2 6.1 ATT ROM, but I guess WM world might be a but too much with the tweaks needed, for ur monkey.
Plus skyscape now has come up with good support, so u can crack and have all those for him in there.
BTW fella, u a dr or med student by any chance, just curious, Am myself one, hence asking

I suggest the Blackberry Bold. He is already familiar with the OS and the Bold is a sweet piece of tech.
I would suggest either the dash or the G1, if you do decide to get the Dash get the extended battery as it will go a long way...
thanks guys, I appreciate all your suggestion, I just read the E71 will be released by ATT as the e71X, it looks pretty darn sweet, so will see, thanks

Yeah, I know what you mean, I was a staff writer for BerryReview.com and also own www.blackberrygtd.com but I have not posted in a while, ever since I made the switch to the so called "darkside" Windows Mobile lol, WM rocks though and it gets a lot of negative rap but the blackberry is a pretty tight platform in its own right.

Yea it is a tight platform; however, I think that WM can do a lot more than the blackberry can.
I really think the Bold will be a good fit for him. From what you described, he doesnt seem to be the type to obsess over customization. That negates one of the main "advantages" of a WinMo phone over the Bold.
He will have a rock solid OS, a fast processor, gorgeous hi-res screen, good battery life, 3G and Wi-Fi and the Bold is more multimedia oriented than previous Blackberrys.

HTC Snap

Looks like the much needed update to the Excalibur, and it's actually going to be picked up by a carrier (most likely AT&T due to the 3G spectrum). It boasts a lot of improved features, it almost seems impossible to fit all of that into a phone that size.
http://i.gizmodo.com/5192944/htc-snap-looks-like-beautiful-black-berry-bold
I personally like it, it retains the beauty of the original phone that just wasn't captured with the Cavalier (read: the Cavalier is ugly).
And WinMo 6.1 to boot!
Wasnt this branded as the HTC Maple? I saw this on BGR's website too. Looks nice, but only a 2MP camera.

Yes, yes, this is old news, we have been talking about this phone for a while, it was called the HTC Maple, and I'm not surprised at them for changing the name. That doesn't mean it won't be called the Maple anymore, like the excalibur , dash , s620 , whatever they want to call it, depending on the carrier, will be the name it will have. But still old news. Just cause it has 3g doesn't mean ATT will be the only one to pick it up, everyone else is already running 3g(unless you're with a company that doesn't) TMO already with 3g and so is Sprint and Verizon.

Perhaps it's just me, but is this phone anything more than a Dash with 6.1, 3G and a roller? I read somewhere that HTC plans to offer this phone unlocked and retail. I'm guessing that within a couple months of release, this will fall under the "free phone with contract" category.
I see no reason to get locked into a contact for this phone. My current contract is up in a few days (which means I've had my Dash for 2 years!). I'm going to wait for WM7 or until my Dash goes tits up, as the Dash (with Ricky and Stylez Rose 6.1) serves my current needs just fine. Don't get me wrong, looks great, but not really worthy of "OMG I GOTTA GET THAT ASAP!".
I sort of agree.
The more I see it the more I dislike it, I think it looks too much like a blackberry for my taste, and that phone should only be coming out with wm 6.5, not 6.1. Is not really that much of an upgrade if it will have the same stuff that I have on my dash right now. Anyways the way I see it I'm pointing on a different direction, for me it will be either a HTC Tilt(Kaiser) or a HTC touch pro (Fuze) next.

Why the dash?

Im an ex T-Mobile Dash user, now upgraded to the G1. My question is why are you guys still fooling around with a phone that's almost 4 years old? There are such better phone out there. What is it about the dash that makes you guys so in love with it?
Don't know what exactly, but i have used a S200, a Hermes, a Kaiser and a diamond. And I always go back to the excalibur.
Sure a Kaiser is nice, as is the diamond, but I just love the Dash. think I allready had a dozen of them.buy broken ones from ebay, repair them, use them for some months, resell them when I got a better looking one. you can buy the broken once really cheap and mostly only the screen has to be repaired. And a simlock is removed in no time thanx to Jocky
I just don't like a touchscreen for daily use.

First of all the G1 is no upgrade LOL its a downgrade from the Dash, its nothing to brag about. I look at the G1 as I do sidekicks, pretty useless, but a cute toy.
I keep my Dash because at the moment its still the best. If the s522 (Maple, Snap whatever its going to be called) hits T-Mo and lives up to even half of the hype around it, then I may box up the old Dash.. we will have to wait and see.
well....
I think it comes down to what you need, I can do everything that I need to with my Dash: pop email, exchange mail, google maps, streaming radio, music, tv shows from my storage card, weather, appointments, reminders, tasks, games. I'm sure that I left out a lot more things, but really that's all I need. Ever since I purchased a 16 gig card and a extended battery that doesn't stick out from the back, I've been nothing but happy with my phone. The G1 might seem like a step up, but I have no real complaints about the dash. I've always felt that the next phone I'd get would have to be leaps and bounds better than the dash, and so far I don't see much that's worth buying along with the higher rates for data. The HTC touch pro 2 might be a worthy upgrade, so lets wait and see.
Milodog
forgot to mention
I forgot to mention that if you compare the G1 with a regular dash, then I would side with the G1, but with the help of this forum our dash's are tweaked like crazy, which is absolutely awesome, I've never had so much fun with a phone. take care
Milodog
just like you, even now you have a G1 still coming back to see the development and exploitation with our dash. how come
because the dash is usefull and its tweaked as i want it so i could use it it the way i want it
G1 not a good example of a phone lol, i use Tilt far more tweakable than G1 Still think the Dash kicks ass for an SP it's old but it's exemely functional, can be modded to user specification and is a 1/4 price of a G1....
My question would be "Why not a Dash?"

Agree my friend!
Apart from the love link one creates with a nice device like S621 exist the fact that some users don´t have the $ to change device every year, so oldest does not means bad, in fact there are some great old devices that to date still rocking even better than the new ones! Example? My Universal! and my S621!
Also Android OS is so young... I would not change to it till it has a more mature/twekable/customizable platfrom, meantime I´ll stick to WM withh al it´s defects

Amen! Nuff Said
There are other 'phones?
family
I think the main reason I still use the dash is because the family is just so massive, theres no other phone out there thats 4 years old that ppl still use and still want to come out with new roms and new programs for and everyone is just so friendly and supportive to keeping it alive
Why not the Dash?
For me, its a question of money. Firstly, I got into the drivers seat of the Dash for free, with no strings attached, literally. Yes, the Dash was $99 dollars, but My rebate Visa debit card for $100 is shipped as we speak, so basically I made a dollar on the deal. I would have had to pay $199 for the G1 with a two year contract, and me wants nothing to do with that, at least not at the moment.
Secondly, this is my first venture into smartphones or PPC's. I have a long history of standard phones, Moto V3re, Samsung hue, heck, even my Moto V190 is still working fine. I am willing to monkey around with the Dash more than I would, say, the G1. When I do get the G1 I won't be modding it at all, better believe that. I don't mind messing with the Dash, because if I brick it, I am really not out anything. I will in no way tinker with a more higher end smartphone or PPC that I am sure I will purchase when I tire of the Dash.
Thirdly, the Dash has everything and all that I want for the moment just starting to delve into the smartphone realm. I mean, WiFi, instant sync with my home comp., no problems when syncing with my laptop on the road for internet access, instant mail and messaging, PDA like functionality, I mean, the list goes on on and on. Oh, and did I mention, the qwerty keyboard one hand operation.
Granted, I know my Dash is a grandpa in this era of the new punks of superphones that are coming out practically every day. I know my Dash is antiquated and soon to be on T-Mobs chopping block. And I know that it goes just the same as computers, the day you buy it, it is already outdated. But, I love my Dash.
Let me turn your question around. Why *not* the Dash?
It's a well built smartphone, that runs the latest version of Windows (thanks to the guys at this forum) as well as the new phones. Additionally, the cost of entry or replacement is minimal.
I own mine, and have only about $50 in it, total. I use it with an ATT SIM, which means that my other options would have included a GoPhone...I have no desire to be under contract with any company.
So, why not a Dash?
4 years seems like a lot, but when you consider that the actual insides of most WM Smartphones haven't changed significantly...including the amount of RAM (are you listening, HTC?)...then why not just go for a well supported, good looking, and remarkably cheap phone that does everything we want it to...and which puts the "glamour" phones like the RAZR and BlackBerry to shame?
Chuck
so now you know!

Compared to my Kaiser, the Excaliburs keyboard is much easier to use. I gave my Excalibur to my son, but there are times I want it back. Only thing that really eliminates the Ex for me is the lack of GPS. The camera on the Ex is actually much beter than the Kaiser as well. Hopefully, they address this with the Touch Pro 2. Touch screen is handy, but it can be annoying at times too.
Why not?
Best phone I've had, even when I look at my iPhone.

You obviously have no clue what your talking about. The dash is a thing of the past and although i love my dash it isn't even in the same league as the g1. I know we all love our dashes but it is no upgrade over the g1 don't kid yourself. The g1 and sidekicks are 2 way different phones and i can say that because i have owned both. Sidekick is for messaging and email. Its obvious you don't own either a sidekick or g1 cause you compare them as if they are the same phone. Yes they both have keyboards, that's where it ends. I'm not being a jerk man don't get me wrong but saying a g1 is a downgrade from dash is like saying rotary phones are an upgrade over touch dial phones.

I still have mine so i love both. I know you don't have a g1 so your comments really don't hold much weight, but the g1 is fully customizable now and will only get better. The g1 is a real phone, don't really understand how you 2 can speak on a phone you don't use. The only reason i'm commenting is because i have used all and own both g1 and dash. You know i respect you very much man so don't take my comments as an insult k? Don't mean it that way and thats directed towards both of you.
Had a Dash, supposedly "upgraded" to G1, then "downgraded" to Dash. Used both, Dash won.

it is great if you like real keyboard and big screen.
This is my 3rd Windows Mobile phone, and I also had the iPhone 3GS. This is BY FAR the best phone I have ever owend, used, or seen. I'm a picky SOB and do my research before buying anything. This is definitely the best phone, and I will continue to be an HTC customer. They got it 100% right on this one!!
best phone
I bought 2 just to play with.
I have dropped my main one on concrete probably 7 times(not on purpose), got minor dings, but no major functionality issues. flashed rom from SD card and computer probably a hundred times, Hard SPLed it while wasted drunk and still this thing is kickin.
Top notch phone would recommend!
From my point of veiw it is an awsome phone, Try to get it cheap though, as cheaply as possible, because as you probably know htc has the leo out and its only a matter of time for a leo like phone with that 1ghz processor with a keyboard attached. There are plenty of people around asking for it so its bound to happen. So Save some money where you can and buy the tp2 through a carrier and get it through someone who is gsm not cdma so when a new phone comes out you can just pop out the sim and you have a new phone

Nothing just use it. Then after your sure you like it Hard SPL it and try a cooked ROM. The stickies in the ROM Development forum will help you once you ready to flash some new ROMs.

What exactly will the roms do for me, and is there any in particular that you would recommend?
Guess I'll be the devil's advocate. My experience with the TP2 is that it's still too slow, whether it's the OS or processor I don't know, but it needs a big boost in speed. I'm definitely grabbing a Snapdragon device when it's available because the TP2 is just a slug.

The stock ROM that came with my AT&T Tilt 2 was actually not too bad at all. I was much quicker and responsive than I was used to on my Tilt 1, even wit it running a custom ROM.
What a ROM for the XDA "cooks" will remove a lot of bloatware from the carriers (trial app that they want you to pay for). This will free up space and resources and can help make you phone more responsive. It can also add feature from the more recent HTC TouchFlo 3D, such as the weather clock. It give you your weather in the clock and with My location service will give your the weather for where you happen to be at the moment. Other nice app included in most cooked ROMs is the Mobile WiFi app. basically allow you to turn you phone into a wireless access point.
I'm using this ROM currently:

I'd honestly say the Touch Pro2 is the best mobile device I've ever had (you can see my past devices in my signature). The screen and keyboard are the best part about the TP2, but the whole thing is near perfect. Whether you're new or old to the Windows Mobile scene, I'd say this is an excellent device which you should most certainly consider.
Hey thanks guys for answering my questions, and thanks lowteckh for giving me another opinion on the matter but, Im getting a new phone in the next two weeks and I'm sure the snapdragon will not come out by then so it will have to be the TP2.
If you particularly want a phone with a hard QWERTY keyboard that runs Windows Mobile then you should check out the Samsung B7610 (a.k.a. Omnia Pro). If you don't want a physical keyboard then you probably don't want a TP2.
There are already Snapdragon-powered devices on the market: the Toshiba TG01, and Acer F1 (a.k.a. NeoTouch) both run Windows Mobile. HTC's own HD2 will be available from T-Mobile UK on Monday. (Of course none of them have physical keyboards).
If you're in America, and you think you don't want Windows Mobile, then the Motorola Droid is worth checking out. The Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS are also worth a look.
Thanks for all the feedback guys, and I like that keyboard on the samsung, it looks solid, but im not a samsung fan . I purchased a Sprint TP2 yesterday and should be getting it soon, Im very excited

I have both the Moment and TP2 I have to say I love the tilt feature of the TP2 the moment has some battery issues and wifi is quirky, broswer are not good, but the App store is awesome. Tp2 best features are automatic profiling and Wifi Router, serving 3g speeds to my friend's Iphone. You made a great choice.

bye bye touch pro 2

so after 3 weeks of hangin on this forum and spending all my free time learning the phone to do the tricks i want it to.
or even to work straight for more than 3 days without reset i returned my phone and got a blackberry bold 9700
since it suits my needs more.
ill wait till the HD2 comes out here in US
it was a great phone (in theory) but in practice it was kinda bulky, unresponsive, umm kinda useless for me personally.
i felt like i was using windows 95 again.
program errors every day at least one
freezing constantly
setting up email every week because it stops receiving mail
then hardware wise:
no camera flash, and quality is not so great for being 3.2mp(ive had much better)
no headphone jack mmkay
forget about one hand use nless you got girl fingers, nut then it wil be too heavy to hold.
the mein reason is actually what alot of you guys should consider is how much time u spend tweaking, modding,FIXING, your phone VS. how much time you spend actually using your phone
with this phone it was 80/20 ratio which is not what i bough the phone for.
blackberry it was about 30/80 which was pretty satisfying for me.
I guess windows mobile isn't for everyone, nor is the tp2. Enjoy your new device.

Shame to hear your bad experience
For me, spending my time here customizing and learning it´s pleassure!
You must really like modding your device, otherwise you always con go for iphoney, crackberry or any other "ready to use" brand
Rhodium is a great device for me
Its all about taste i guess
Its all about taste i guess, .. i used to have a Motorola RAZR V8, Linux-Based, ... and i used to MOD the shi*t out of it, i really liked that, even though that the battery life was really bad, but i liked it cuz it was mood-able. after that i bought nokia E75, not much i could do with it but adding themes and apps, .. its really reliable, and fast, but its kindda boring when you cant do anything but the original functions
anyway, . .wish you good luck with your BB mate!

Couldnt Agree More. I Mod My Phone Everyday. Its Only So Much To DO With A iPhone/Blackberry. Im Bout To Get The HD2 Though.
well it was mostly because of speed of the device.
im probably the most ADD pc user i know. most of the time people have no idea what im doing on the PC because i have so many windows open and i go thru them very quickly when im doing something. and they sit there like wtf.
so blackberry OS is a lil snappier. out of the box it has most features that i need without tweaking...
i do want the HD2 when it comes out but its probably gonna be expeeeensive.
and like i said i bought the phone so i can use it not spend all time modding it. i did that with my sony ericsson and once i was done. the new one came out that had all the features so. i could spend my 6 months just saving up some money for new one and do something else.
Some people go buy a new toyota and some people go find old chevys to restore
it is kinda like a muscle car to tweak.
I still miss my wizard. made that thing run faster than a Kaiser... or this tp2.
I kept coming back to windows because the OS and OEM are so tweakble. I dont have problems teathering internet to my laptop... in fact it is like having a mini laptop.
I think that as soon as the new rom comes out for T-mo I will do everything I did on my wizard to make it run as fast as I want it to, even if it takes a month. (which it did) I keep hearing people complain about their Blackberries and IPhones.. "I cant do this; I cant do that" and meanwhile I raise my IQ just problem solving.
Exactly. Some peoples phone are also their hobby, others just want a phone.
Basically my assumption is that ALL windows smart phones will be slow no matter how many new versions and faster cpus there are. It's just windows...lol.
I do agree that other phones such as the iPhone or Blackberry is extremely fast, but when it comes down to modding, you really can't do much...
You're basically stuck with what your phone came with and nothing else.

30/80 on the BB, huh? Wow, you are getting 110% from your Blackberry? If so, where do I get one of those? Now we all can see why a windows "smartphone" was so difficult for you to use.

He he he he......
I can understand why some people like windows mobile and the flexibility to mod and tweak etc., but i'm so tired of windows mobile and their crap OS full of bugs. Yes you can install cooked ROMS and the chefs around here do a great job but when the core code (OS) is crap it brings you back to the same bugs no matter what ROM you're running. For example, SMS on every windows mobile phone i have owned (treo, mogul, touch pro and now tilt 2) has been crap. It's actually worse on my tilt 2 than any of the previous winmo phones I owned. I actually just installed a "hotfix" which is supposed to fix the sluggish/freezing SMS application and either the update didn't install (looked like the install went fine) or the update did absolutely nothing to fix the sms app because my sms app is just as slow as it was before and still freezes. If SMS wasn't such crap on winmo I would stay with a winmo phone but since it's getting worse I'm either going to the Iphone or an android as soon as the androids are released for AT&T.
I absolutely love the TP2 hardware. I love Manilla/Sense when it works. I just want to get my phone set up with the programs I want with the theme/backgrounds I want and leave it alone and let it get my emails, make phone calls, and browse the occasional web page. But simple things that shouldn't cause the phone to lock up, does. Any time I change the Theme on my phone, Sense locks up and I have to soft reset. Winmo has been out for quite a while simple tasks like that should not be an issue. Sometimes after I softreset Sense won't launch and it locks up my phone. Nothing to do but softreset again and hope for the best. I tried installing SPB Shell. Progress bar stuck at 100% for like 30 minutes. Guess something went wrong so I soft reset. Tried uninstalling and the uninstall sticks at 100%. No way for me to get rid of it so I had to hard reset and re-set up my phone. This was after spending an hour researching trying to find a way to get rid of it.
But I finally have my phone looking the way I want it too. All the programs I want installed. We'll see how stable it is now.
Comming from an original TYTN II then moving to an iPhone and then a Blackberry and then an Android phone I really do love the possibilities of the ecosystem of Windows Mobile but with my iPhone, Blackberry, and Android they were so much more stable and easier to live with day to day. One of the things I miss most about the Blackberry platform is the ability to plug it in, and backup the entire device and create a sort of snapshot of that time and day of your config. So if I need to wipe my device I can go back to a point where everything was installed and working the way I wanted it too. This software came with the phone and wasn't something you had to spend 5 hours researching on XDA Developers to see if it's even possible.
I love this web page, it's an invaluable resource with TONS of information. But for those of us who don't quite know all the nomenclature, or know what things will work with what version of Sense/Manilla, or your build of Windows, or that maybe items from the Blackstone will work on your Rhodium, etc it's pretty tough sledding reading and researching trying to figure out what you want to know to do what you want to do. It's almost like there is too much information at times. And the information is presented in a way that only experienced Windows Mobile users know what the heck the information means. And if a new user posts a question they will be told by 3-4 different people that the information is out there if only they would do a search. But as a new user it's hard to search for something when you aren't quite sure what it's called or if it's even possible in the WinMo eco system.
lol thats why i choose a toyota over some beat up chevy.
BECAUSE IT DRIVES and i dont have to spend hours making it work...
had the blackberry for a qwwk not and havent had a single complaint yet.
no freezing up. no need to constantly update it.
no need to go thru registry
blackberry browser is not the best one but it is better because IT WORKS when i need it to, it doesnt frreeze up every time i open it.
sorry guys but you can make all the excuses the fact is, winmo is SLOOOW and buggy.
i didnt pay 600 dollars for a phone that i constantly have to "maintain"
its like buying a 70,000$ mercedes and spending your whole evening trying to work out all the bugs and engine codes instead of driving it... yes the phone is great, lots of potential but what good does it do if it doesnt perform the functions it supposed to?
Why are you still here?
And it isn't Windows Mobile that is slow, it is the crap processor HTC has been using for the past 3 years and has just now finally started using a decent one with the HD2.
Though I do agree it has more bugs than any of its competitors.
Well said!

I couldn´t be more agree!!
Rhodium is a great device.
I decided to wait till all 1ghz processor bugs are fixed, then hope a Touch Pro 3 arrives and will upgrade!
But sure this won´t happen till 2011/2012
Meantime I´m enjoying my Rhodium a lot

I certainly agree that the proc is a bit outdated, but not quite that much...the first HTC handset with the Qualcomm 528Mhz chip was the Diamond, released in June '08.
But I have to say, I think the TP2 is a shining example of how much usability can be milked out of even processors that aren't much more than 50% of the speed of what's currently available. I know we're all having secret dreams about a qwerty-slider "TP3/HD3/Nexus2", but until such a beast is announced, you can pry my beloved Rhodium from my cold dead fingers.
I totally agree. You have said a mouth full. I am what you call a begginner. I've had an Excalibur,ATT Fuze and now a Tilt 2. I've modded every single phone more than twice and I knew nothing when I first started. Thanks to Xda-developers. I love my Tilt 2. I wouldn't trated for anything else until something new comes out with a keyboard.
Blackberrys are so borring and Iphones has had its big share of issues. I had the 1st gen and 3G version. Modded that too but nothing comes close to my Tilt 2. Best part of my Tilt 2 is the tilt feature. Set it down and enjoy a movie.
Up to now I have not seen a cell phone with out an issue. Thats why there are people like Xda that come to the rescue. You may see your self in a crackbeery site in need of help.
My point is move on and theres no need for sorrow or goodbyes.
....I´m reading here of slowlyness, hat the phone freezes, and so on....
I have my TP2 now for 3 month....it is my first winmob device.
Have flashed a german custom ROM, and made some tweaks....have installed a lot of apps...
BUT: I think, the phone isnt THAT slow....also my phone doesnt freeze very often.
And, by the way: SMS works very well....!!!
