HI!
Does anybody know about a Guitar Tuner software (a real tuner, not just playing the notes) working properly on Artemis? I tried a few on my device (actually an SPV650) and none seems to work. The note is never recognized. Thanks
I use Frequency Tuner:
http://www.frequencytuner.solcon.nl/
You have the option of guitar or piano view and has more options than every other tuner out there.
-Mc
I've tried frequency tuner on a couple of machines, now. can't get it to tune at all. it just jumps all over the place... even in a silent room. tried playing with all th settings but just can't get it to recognise the correct notes. have given up now.
is it just me?
I use it on EVERYthing I have.
Maybe you need to adjust the "trigger" at the bottom of the screen?
I'm currently running it on my Wizard, Kaiser, and Touch Pro. I use it a lot actually...
-Mc
After some testing (I originally started this thread) I managed to have decent results on my Artemis using both "4Pockets Guitar Tuner" and "enable Tuner". Both are shareware. In my opinion, both have the same problems:
- Practically no way to tune the low E string.
- No way to use "automatic detection" of the played string. The measured frequency is really not stable so the Tuner almost never makes the right guess. Yet, in manual mode is usable.
- The measured frequency flips up and down a lot, but after a while you get used to it and you manage to use it.
-No way to use it in a noisy place.
I still cannot say if it works better with or without the AGC microphone enabled or not. Depending on that you might want to adjust the distance between the phone and the guitar.
After some testing I took my old tuner and tried... the process it's just so much easier and quick that I really cannot say I don't need it anymore. Yet, if I don't have it with me I can do something with the Artemis.
The following also look quite good, although I have not tried them:
Auto Tuner:
http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=52
PhonTuner:
http://www.phonature.com:8092/home/products_mpApp_PhonTuner.htm
Hope this helps.

Is the one I was talking about. It's ok. There are a few version around, all are quite the same.

does NOT work properly on Artemis
frequency tuner works
On my HTC touch HD, the free frequency tuner works really good!
http://www.frequencytuner.solcon.nl/index.html
It takes about 5 seconds to get a frequency and tone, but that is very all right for tuning instruments.
I am happy with it, thanks xda!
which version did you use? sorry abit noob here. which one should iget for diamond touch?

Hello, guys. What are the most stable overclock settings for my O2 XDA IIs in hack master?
THanks
i've toyed with several overclocking utilities and found that its useless.
first of all, you will not see Excel opening up faster. However you will see that some programs will not work properly e.g Windows Media Player
when u overclock to 500+, phone becomes unstable. Even when it does work (about one in three times u OC it), you'll be getting like extra 2-3 FPs in SNES emulator, which brings it up to 27-28FPS (gasp) in Zelda. That plus a tiny screen makes for aN aggravating experience
.
hardly noticable? you get aprroximately double the performance in TCPMP benchmarks clocked at 590:147:295.. stock was getting about 800kb/sec media performance and at the above settings try 1.6mb/s
if anyone wants to compare your results with mine search for this video RL_MQB_320x240_512_128.avi and run the benchmark against it in TCPMP
The point is, just because it benches better doesnt mean its actually any faster for how you use it. Fiddle with the settings - just be careful with the memory. If you push it up to 166mhz (from the stock 100) then it will lose all your data!! Below that I have had no problems (147mhz and below).
I agree to a point.. you can't expect it to double your GPRS downloads because that just wont happen.. but with almost a 50% overclock I can tell a significant difference
I have set my Dash to 240MHz from i guess the standard 201MHz, however it doesn't seem to be any faster. I've tried multiple tasks at the same time and I just can't feel a difference in speed.
On the system info it always shows 201MHz regardless to what clock i set it. I also don't notice a difference in battery consumption.
How can i check if the Dash is indeed OCed that what I set it to?

The only way is to look at OMAPClock I do believe.

The only way I know is to go back into OMAPClock and check what setting you have it on. I don't know of a way to see the current clock settings. I can say this-- Your phone's speed greatly depends on the number of applications and programs you have running simultaneously. If you have a lot of stuff going on at once, then you may not notice the difference in speed from 201mhz because the 240mhz is absorbing all of this activity. I noticed a change in my phone's speed when I first o/ced it (significant enough for me to notice a difference), but after a while my S620 became loaded down with all kinds of programs as I began exploring the wonderful world of modding. Now it runs at a decent speed.
I keep my phone very light. Only on there what I really use. The OMAP says 240. I'll keep it at 240 for now and see what happens. If I can see reduced Battery life over the next few weeks I guess it must be working. I'm not sure if I can go 1 step higher.
My old dash burned out on a hot Florida Spring day with a (I believe 252 OC). So I'm also kinda worried about the heat (internal/external), but as far as I read everything should be just fine at 240MHz.
you can benchmark it using sktools

I have read every thread I could find on overclocking the Dash here in xda. I have T-Mobile 6.0 Standard and would like to overclock. Could some helpful person please tell me which program(s) I need to do this? I'm assuming OMAPClock (which version?) and anything else? My Dash is app unlocked already. Thanks in advance!
wm6.1 coming with a lot of feature inside how omapclock, install it.

I'm not quite ready to upgrade to WM 6.1 with some problems I've read about. I did, though, download OMAPCLock and it works great! The small problem is that it is buried in File Explorer, and I would like a shortcut on the Start Menu. Not being a programmer (like most of you), I don't know what "arguments, file paths, etc." are. I can't copy and paste to Windows\Start Menu cuz it won't let me. Is there another way without getting Total Commander cuz I don't really want to keep adding programs to my Dash that aren't absolutely necessary?
Never mind. The Surreal Networks OMAPCLock app gives me the Start Menu shortcut and Homescreen Icon. The first OMAP program I dl'd was from freeware.com and will not delete. It says there is a sharing violation. Anyone know how I can get it off my phone?
Well i already tried speeding up my HERO by following the steps from another thread here in the forum and it just didn't work for me.
So Heres what i Tried and it just seems to work out for me! And its very simple too.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: DOWNLOAD "OVERCLOCKWIDGET" FROM THE MARKET AND SET THE MIN MHZ TO (128000) AND MAX TO (528000) MHZ. THIS SHOULD HELP KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTH.
^^^^Also from the settings of "OverClock Widget" you can set the MHZ Frequencies while the screen if off to the a low but not so low Frequencies in order to save battery!
So if your like me and like to have a lot of widgets on your phone then Using Task manager to kill certain apps might just do the trick....
First of all never end applications such as
com.htc.socialnetwork.provider
com.htc.provder.weather
HTC media uploader
Touch input
HTC Location Service
and more! They do not have an icon if your using "advance task Manager" All other apps are good to end such as music, peep, market, Messages,Mail, Google Mail, and of course Browser which uses a lot of memory.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes...
Heres the link to a video i made to show the performance of my HTC Hero!

Thats the way i do it to.
But i also noticed, that some widgets uses more battery than others. After i removed quick calender and digital clock, i got better battery performance. That might also have some effects on the processing power
I tried this...
This afternoon and so far this morning the Hero is far more responsive after I wake it up (which was when it was at its most laggy).
I can now immediately slide around the home screens. Before I had to wait a few seconds or suffer ignored screen swipes.
I was not using the Stocks app or widget but it was set to auto update so set it to never update.
Maybe its a process that runs regardless of whether you use the app or widget ??
Know what I think might work? An app that reboots the phone.
User selects frequency of reboot (daily? every 2 days? every week?)
User selects time of reboot (12 midnight? 3 am?)
User defines Countdown period (15 seconds? 30 seconds? 1 minute?)
At the user-defined time, the app will run itself, and prompt the user "Reboot Now?". A countdown timer will start.
User can select 'Later', 'In 10 minutes', or if there is no interaction/input, when countdown reaches 0, the app will reboot the phone automatically.
This way, users will always wake up to a 'fresh' phone. What do you guys think?
Rebooting the device won't make it faster. On the contrary you have to start every apps for the first time so it takes more time.
You'd better leave it on and turn to airplane mode when you don't need it.

Tell that to my phone. It's back to it's zippy self after a reboot, and only slows down after I run Maps, Browser, Google Talk, Market and HTC Mail

I think clock should also be spared of killing, as if I recall correctly, something bad could happen to set alarms (not setting off, volume too low etc.)!
Hi guys, need some help.
i've just rooted my Hero thanks to this article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543571 and Quick Boot (which needs root) now works perfectly.
After i've installed overclockwidget i cannot start it as it gives me an error "Star-up error - cannot start Overclockwidget (need Root)".
Any ideas?
thanks in advance.
Surely increasing the CPU speed will also increase battery drain ?
Its also likely to lead to instability and additional heat (Hero gets hot enough when working hard).
Personally I would be wary of doing this.
I have no real issues with battery drainage after tweaking the processor speed; lasts about the same as it would w/out the tweaks.
I do see some minor performance improvements, but on the flip-side, the phone can also get sluggish at times upon waking it up from sleep.

wrong, mine runs at 528 MHz, and I haven't overclocked it
I can confirm that mine shows 526 (the widget number) as well out of the box. And changing the settings doesn't appear to do anything. It's always returning to 480Mhz - 528Mhz when I restart the app / widget. I've tried this both with SetCPU and OverClock Widget.
The Hero (at least some Heroes) seems to be immune to fiddling with the cpu. And I am sure I'm rooted, because I enabled paid apps in Android Market with MarketEnabler and that's working.
MarketEnabler didn't work out of the box tho - because it had a script that relied on Grep and Grep isn't installed, so I had to empty the AndroidMarket cache by hand from the terminal... Maybe there's something similar preventing fiddling with the cpu speeds?
There is a overclock test going on at nuerom!

although right now it's only a beta test some results has been successful.
For now it's only possible overclocking to 768MHz

no it's not the same, this application is for overclocking.
But it's from the same guy ^^
does not work for me as well maybe 768mhz is just too much
is there any possibility to use for example only 650mhz?
It seems to help to disable radio (only Phone OFF) and plug the phone into the A/C charger.
This is a very early test version ....most users at HTC Diamond an Xperia confirmed that it works.
More tweak options ...lower/higher CPU speeds will follow, like i said this is a very early beta but it seems promising. For now it is only 768MHz .
Hi, work me it "works".
You have to disable all plugins on today (touch flo, titanium) and then it works.
In SK tools integer benchmark I get 485 points, 331 on standard frequency, which is I mean huge difference. But solitaire works for 5sec, then freezes. Igo 8 loads to main screen and then freeze....

iam try to oc my blackstone but my phone freez at every time when i try it... (turned on/off radio, with/without ac adapter)

I'm using a cooked rom with windows mobile 6.5. Windows now works a lot better, not as choppy as before, photos are loading a lot faster and I get about 5-15fps more on the psx emulator. Overall it works great, but keep in mind it's not really stable. It freezes with ease.
And I had to disable my Phone on comm manager (the option between fly mode and bluetooth) if I don't it freezes. But once you run the overclock you can turn it on again and it works perfect.
Hey sorry duplicate post, don't know how to delete it :-|
how long have you been running it for? And have you noticed any increased heating? I expect that there will be...i'm just slightly worried that extended use will kill the Blackstone =/
What do I have to do to get 768MHZ?
Just install the cab and start the program?
Hello, good software to destroy your HD ...
Alright Marcdu81
we got two options here:
Your post is just senseless and absolutely unnecessary.
or
You experienced some difficulties after installing this software, maybe it even harmed your HD.
If that is the case you should state more precisely what happened in order to help avoiding things like that in the future!
How to maximize battery life without affecting functionality? I think the answer for this question is different for most of you. It depends on how you plan to use your device, even when it’s not turned on. Keynote is that you have to get the right tools and be creative. To give you a head start, I will dump my configuration in this thread. I am able to get up to 48 hours on one charge using this configuration. If used more intensive, your results may differ from mine though.
My configuration
HTC Desire
DeFroST 2.4d
DeFroST 2.4d"]DeFroST 2.4 SVS 1267Mhz kernel
SetCPU
Setting Profiles
DeFroST 2.4d
I will stick to this ROM for this guide but I’m sure the following applies to your custom ROM as well. DeFroST is my personal favorite and I would like to use this opportunity to thank RichardTrip for all the time he puts into this ROM.
DeFroST 2.4 SVS 1267Mhz kernel
DeFroST 2.4 HAVS max 998MHz 800mV (max 998MHz) might be better at saving more energy. But my decision to pick the SVS 1267Mhz has couple of causes.
I don’t have a CPU that can run at 800mV
I’m not patient, I love to go to max speed when it’s available
I found that with my current settings, battery life is good even with the SVS kernel
As I said, it’s totally up to personal preference. If you feel you need it, flash it! There’s a 925mV kernel out there as well if you have the same issue I do with 800mV (running unstable).
SetCPU
Freely available to any XDA user. A lightweight tool that offers all the functionality we need. Other then setting the default speed, it allows us to use profiles based on things like battery charge and temperature.
Main
Profiles
In my configuration, the phone runs at full speed when the battery capacity >= 75% or if it’s charging. Then when the phone discharges, it gradually scales down the max CPU speed. More important though, I found that I don’t need to have the device running at max speed, seeping energy, when I’m not actively using it. When my display turns of, my max CPU speed will be set to 245Mhz. This is perhaps the most important setting in this configuration.
Setting Profiles
No, not Juice Defender. I don’t know why so many seem to prefer Juice Defender. It cannot be customised the way I like it and the UI gives me a headache. But then again, that’s my opinion, maybe I’m wrong
Setting profiles is once again a lightweight tool that lets you define rules by means of logic. It works like this (example):
Create a profile that enables WiFi
Create a rule Activate WiFi when the condition battery is plugged to any charger is met
I figured that I do not want to receive mail, connect to bluetooth or WiFi when I’m asleep. Also, I don’t need a constant e-mail sync at daytime. 50% sync activity is enough for me. For now, that’ll do.
Profiles
Rules
I have a lot of ideas that can still be implemented. The devs at probeez.com are working hard to implement new functionality into their app. One idea I had was to revert to 2G when the display is turned off. However, the condition display off and the action revert to 2G are not available yet.
If you agree, please let the devs know what functionality needs to be added to make their software even better. Vote on this site.
The 2G functionality has already been planned. My other suggestion, the display state, doesn’t have enough votes yet. You can find it here.
The good thing about this tool is that it will be highly customisable when more and more options are added. This fits the idea of choosing your own energy efficient settings I’m trying to promote with this topic.
Conclusion
I could elaborate my choices, but my point is to give you tips about how to address energy saving. Read this manual and be creative. Copy some of the ideas, change others. Maybe come up with new ideas so brilliant that I should add them to this post .
I’ll try to keep updating this topic with the input from you and the newly available functions in the apps.

Manual control of brightness
How could I forget? My own brightness setting is always at the lowest. Unless I'm in a very bright environment (like in the sun) and I cannot see anything on my screen. Auto brightness tends to be to bright in general. The Power Control widget can assist you in quickly switching brightness.

Use a plain black wallpaper
Although this goes further them some of you want to go, using a plain black wallpaper can save battery usage.

is it safe to assume that the profiles that let you enable or disable wifi are in the full paid version ?
*edit*
scratch that, just found 'setting profiles' on the market.
i did lose 2% battery life with just 5 minutes surfing ealier on ..
I have never used any additional program to control power apart from the default Android power widget. I would normally do this to preserve energy no matter which ROM or even which phone I have. It's all common sense:
- turn "2G only mode" and switch on 3G hen I actually need it (e.g. browsing heavy webpages). If you turn off the images in websites even GPRS usually does the job well.
- NEVER use 3G for regular voicecalls. It's a completely senseless way of draining battery fast.
- completely switch off any automatic syncronizations (Gmail, Facebook, Weather, etc.) and syncronize individual accounts only when I actually need it. Simply untick the "automatic synchronization" in the accounts and sync settings.
- of course wi-fi, gps are permanently off and I turn them on manually only when I need them.
- keep the display as dark as possible and no brighter than needed.
- use a solid black wallpaper which saves energy on AMOLED screens (won't make difference on regular TFT LCD). A bright wallpaper may significantly increase energy consumptions.
- forget any "Live" wallpapers.
I have read that killing tasks does not make much difference on Android 2.1 onwards. I still keep killing tasks just as a habit.
This way it adds up a bit of extra manual job but I think it's better than any of those "power control" programs that do the same thing just not as accurately as one can do manually.
well i left my phone on charge overnight and unplugged it at 8am this morning on 100% battery.
6 hours later and it's on 96% - although to be fair that's with near zero usage.
thanks for this topic, very helpfull

I have just implemented everything you recommended, so lets see how tomorrow goes (I can't be bothered to go drive out of my local cell towers ranges right now to see if my WiFi turns off ).
With regards to Disabling Sync, if I set it for 4 minutes out of 5 minutes (4/5) then Sync is only enabled for 1 minute out of every 5 minutes, right?
Having previously used JuiceDefender, I thought I'd give Setting Profiles a bash. First stumbling block is lack of toggling for mobile data - is that right, or have I missed something?
