Removing Coloured & non stock Icons - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

ok i know i'm about to be lambasted but i thought i'd try asking anyway, how does one remove the coloured status icons from a particular rom w/o editing the rom & reflashing?
Also how to change the icons back to stock icons?
Any help would be appreciated

I don't think it can be done without editing the ROM. The only way I know to change the icons is to extract the rom and use pe explorer, multiextractor, etc to do it. But then again, what icons do you want to change? It's not hard to unpack, swap, repack & flash. If I can do it, anyone can. Look here.

oh ok i'm interested in changing the status icons at the top menu bar and the system icons which have been changed in a custom rom i downloaded i prefer the stock wm icons.

I think they're in the shellres.96.dll. You may look over in the Hacking & Development section. I remember seeing something in there when I was researching a way to change my start icon.

My roms have this in the battery meter file phcanOverbmp.dll if u need to change.

Thanks guys for the suggestions etc, i ended up w/ a solution that didn't involve me doing very much.
I'd made an spb backup of a previous roms settings, and when i restored that ontop of the rom i had newly installed, it changed the icons back to stock, so my problem in that regard is solved. but @ least i know now in the future what i'll have to do if i need to do it again.
Thank You

I had this just happen when flashing back to a rom I normally use. I just had to hard reset the phone. Something just becomes corrupt and applying any themes didn’t take. Worked fine after the HR, but had reinstall all the apps again…

[Q] Quick Settings edit

hi,
quick question: how to edit the quick settings in the drop-down menu (notification tray) in Gingerbread Sense ROMs ? (im using insertcoin)
i want to know ! how to do ?
Maybe this Thread helps you
well unfortunatetly no answer there, just an idea to decompile an .apk and suit it to my needs.
still, anyone ?
Its so simple in MIUI Rom... their is an option in settings/Personal/ Custom Status Bar..
Incase you desperately want the setting, you can try MIUI ;-)
Well it's a difference if you did the thing yourself or if you want to change a HTC based feature without big hacks. I think it's pretty much impossible.
But if there is a solution, let me know - 2G/3G is missing
it is not impossible, in stock you get only a few quick settings, in custom roms (rcmixs, insertcoin) devs extended it - i want to know how, so i can remove the unneeded shortcuts.
robocik: not that easy, you should take a modded systemui.apk and a stock one, decode both with apktool and diff them, that way you will see how it is maked and will be easier for you to modify it.
this is the method, have not tried it yet though.
if any of you intrested guys tries to do this, i really apprecieate your feedback here thx.
and big thanks to robo, not only for all the amazing job he is doing for our community, but also for responding to my Q
I have rooted Desire Z with Virtuous Sence v2 Rom.
Go to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071118
and download Extra QuickSettings 0.2
http://www.multiupload.com/W7GXFQJN6R
Extract SystemUI.apk from zip file.
I used DroidExplorer to replace original : system/app/SystemUI.apk
with the downloaded one and have ne quick settings menu.
Is there any way to change "quick settings" with rooting?
If by "change" you mean "add/remove features in the settings list", yes, there is. Check out this thread.

[Q] UOT Kitchen - System.apk/Framework.apk

So, I forgot to backup my system & framework apk's before I uploaded them into the kitchen and made a new theme. *I know, shame on me*.
Is there a default/stock for those or are they created based of individual phone information?
What i'm asking is, do I need to re-install the rom to get those back or can I just pull them from above said stock apk's?
Android: 2.3.5
Rom:Cm7(08012011)
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!!!
Thanks-

i'm confused. are you saying you dont like your theme and want to go back to stock or you want you want to update to the next nightly but dont want to do the kitchen every time?
I'm not reaaal familiar with the kitchen stuff, I know more than enough to get myself in trouble (changing radio's, roms, etc) but haven't completely grasped the themes yet.
It SEEMS like a couple of things are not changing even if I create a completely new theme (The battery icon, the lockscreen buttons and something else I forget)
My thinking is, there's a generic theme(s) for the rom and when you create a get a new one, it updates certain aspects of it.
If I create a new theme in kitchen and only change the battery, wouldn't all of the other settings revert to the "default" theme?
On a completely different note-
What's the difference between ADW themes and Themechoose themes?

Ah. ok. so what ever you change in the kitchen it will change in the apk. it wont touch the rest of the apk. its kinda like an online apktool. it unpackages it changes the png's you want and then packages it up again using the resources from the apk you submitted. ADW themes are for the ADW launcher so it only themes the home screens. but Themechooser themes the whole phone, or as much as the developer of themechooser allowed it to do.
Great! Thanks

[Q] need help with ROM Toolbox pro and changing battery icons

Hey guys,
I really need help on changing the battery icon on my galaxy s3. I jusr hate how it looks. so I downloaded a program called ROM Toolbox Pro (im sure you've heard of it), installed it and downloaded the icon pack (Circular Colourful). I installed it and none of my battery icons changed. I restarted SystemUI.apk and nothing happened. I did a reboot and nothing happened. keep in mind that iam rooted and have custom recovery. i asked a question/ made a post on the bootloop that I encountered when changing SystemUI.apk, but I fixed it. so could someone help me solve this problem?
Thanks
Nevermind, fixed: just installed previous version.

Same Problem
Hi I was just curious what you meant by previous version. I am having the same problem. I'm rooted, running a custom ROM and I was able to change my boot animation fine with Rom Toolbox Pro, but it's not changing the Battery Icons I chose.

As an option, this a very cool statusbar icon creator you use from a PC to make a flashable zip. Some of the settings need to be tweaked to assign the proper names to the pngs. for example. the signal output has to be renamed tw_stat_sys_6_level_signal_ so it replaces the proper files on our phone. I also found success using a working, flashable zip that replaces the battery icons and just replacing the images in that file with the ones i made and rezipping. Its very easy, but seems more geared toward international S3's, so thats why it needs a couple tweaks. The options for colors and styles is pretty impressive!

Remove back and home buttons from status bar

I believe this option exists in Malaysk's ROM, but is it possibly on the stock firmware, I have xposed installed. Seems a little redundant to have them with physical buttons right there.
I can't speak to the stock ROM... but I can confirm that I removed those items from the status bar on the Malaysk ROM.

Thanks, I had heard/read that, was hoping there was a mod/xposed module out there for the stock ROM. Everything works fine for me on the stock ROM, not really keen to change it, would just like to be able to fix a couple of these little things.
Yeah I don't think so man... specifically because the app I used to change those settings is called "Malasyk Mods".
