Im really not intending to be a jerk, but you asked for critique, and now appear to be surprised it isn't flying off the shelves, so to the point, you post a ROM you cooked, which has apps inside you appear to know nothing about, magic ss..and since when is "glossy black bars" an app, and then don't even really post much info about it, other than its bloated..that's besides the point that I myself don't think I could even bare to tell someone I was running a rom named "Mr Bloaty".
If you want more downloads, you're going to have to put a little more effort into it...maybe some version info/screenshots, instead of just throwin up a download link to what appears to be a bloated turd that you and your friends though up after a few too many beers..or something one night.
Sorry if I sound rude, just calling it as I see it.
IIRC Glossy black bars is a small utility that appeared in some of the Black Roms.
Also, should you want a very heavily laden ROM, I would suggest that using Pandora's kitchen would be the way forward. (Choose what you want)
You don't give much info on what you have done to the ROM - but as you say you are new to all this, it will not fill people with confidence and tempt them to try it.

Ahh my bad, ty for the info on the app, had always just done it manually myself, or rather nowdays I just have a shortcut and HW key mapped to an exported reg value.
basically i used pandoras kitchen, and added virtually all the apps included, there are a few people like me who dont want a lite rom, i like a rom with quite a few apps included, I dont enjoy a few beers with mates, i like looking round for apps and sharing this, and many other ppc sites with every ppc owner i know, so i thought i would do a basic (i know only the basics what i read on here and the wiki) rom, yeah its not up there with the gods (schaps, jasjamming and the rest) but its my contribution to this forum
As for calling it MR BLOATY, its full of bloat.... mr bloaty is only the name of the rar file.
Its based on the Tmobile 3.60 rom (so i been told)
Im sorry that i have not added more info on the rom, or screenshots, all i know it runs pretty nippy, you will have to add your own internet settings, and if you want office, you will have to add the .cab yourself
Again, im a bit of a noob round these parts, i basically had a good read of the forum on how to use pandoras kitchen, studied all parts of the rom, constructed it, and converted it to download.
I dont mind if you download or not, its just my contribution here
its been downloaded 27 times too. so at least my work not being wasted
OK - I don't think the aim of the posters here ( me included) was to put you off sharing your efforts, rather to enable more people to try it.
Just add the following facts to your first post:
ROM created using the Tmobile Test Rom version of Pandora.
The following applications have been included :

No other changes made to the ROM
Doesn't include Office (Will need to install using cab)
Will need to add own network settings
OS only upgrade (I assume this is right?)
Seems to run fast and no issues noticed to date (Again, is this correct)
And that should be all we need to know. Keep up the good work!
ok, thanks for that, will upgrade first post....

Totally agree man, We are left with scrounging to collaborate a good kitchen from all the generous chefs around here. (No intended as a knock to chefs)
And then fending for ourselves on if issues arrise. I mean i understand everyones very busy with their own lives but these guys on PPCkitchen got it going on man!!
interesting
Looks very interesting, can't install it at my work pc but will try it first thing tonight when I get home.....Are there certain models this works on??
(I read a little bit around the site so if that question is answered I will locate it)

I haven't released the kitchen I built as it's mainly re-written for my own development...
It takes a good use of cygwin, bash, perl, shell scripts, windows exe files, and more... Having all this setup for the average joe would be a nightmare to support!
So, I just keep plodding on and releasing ROMs

It really depends... sometimes it's official NBH's, others it's from an NBH from a different device, sometimes it's a rip direct from the phone (ie Part02.raw), other times it's just a SYS directory...
As there's no more official development for the Hermes, it comes down to what you can find
A nice bit of generosity from the sources of the builds would be good. Unfortuatly this has NEVER been the case and its a matter of "who you know" if you want to get hold of builds for a kitchen. The pandora series of kitchens was the daddy when it was alive.
Ive personally given up cooking my own ROMs since getting hold of a ROM build is difficult.
CRCinAU has bodged together a working stable ROM from several other devices and has ported all the bits over, whereas others have access to a build ready-made. He has done ALOT of work to get the ROMs working, alot more than the other chefs i might add since the majority of the work is porting in his case.
Shame the builds arent shread more since they ARE out there but being withheld rather selfishly.

Yknow there are many cooks out there releasing different builds to which i am very grateful for. and i'm very noobish but it seems like if we could dump builds from others like for example the latest PDAviet build.
If i could dump that properly and then build it into my own would be very cool but i'm stumped at the dumping part. I think if we could have a fixed tool that properly dumps .bin without overlap errors then we could probably jump in on the cooking bandwagon and participate, other than scrounging for pieces from here and there.
As for my last comment, It appears i received a answer finally http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2418428&posted=1#post2418428
He says it's basically impossible to dump a pdaviet rom.

Yep, its quite easy to build an nb which cannot be dumped....yet another way to stop people using the build inside. Im sure there is a good reason but from what i can see its merely to stop people releasing thier own ROMs, the pandora kitchens showed that most people used it to customise a ROM for thier own needs rather than release a ROM.
I am absolutely no specialist (only experienced a lot of trial and error), but what I can say to people looking for building themselves a kitchen from new builds is that they must perform a little porting from "live" devices that keep receiving updates. Getting your hands on an originally shipped ROM is essential as CRC said before.
For now the "easy" one is Kaiser and it is not very complicated if one was used to bepe's kitchen before. Search for EasyPortOven that comes handy is this case. Porting from newer devices like Diamond, Raphael is more complex due to resolution (at least) and people that have done it can have a word here maybe.
This is also a good reason why I spend most of the time in this forum over at the Kaiser section. It is more alive.
Good tips and discussion! We do have some kitchens available in our forum. Although finding a good kitchen here is sometimes like pulling the teeth! This is the truth back when i had my wizard too!
What can I say mr. mrvanx, I totally agree with you. Pandora has shown us a way to customize the ROM's as per our own needs, and that gave all of us freedom of choice. My last build with Pandora was the fastest one at that time, which made me quite happy.
I would be very grateful to who ever will release an updated kitchen for us. The kitchen from Tyr0 is a very good one and fast. But I wanted to get a newer one, that will contain updated clock.exe, UsbToPc.exe (with possibility to have my TyTN as a Usb Drive), clean E & G icons and other nice features that the latest ported builds have.
I hate when ROM' Chefs believe that by releasing a kitchen, everyone will be making money on them and not give any credit to the initial builders and share money received. Perhaps there is a good reason for that, but WHY PAY you guys (rom chefs) when instead of solving problems of one build you are actually jumping onto another and release a new ROM. You are asking for so called "donations", but you don't give us, simple users, any support for "your" freshly cooked builds. We are still facing the problems with IrDA, Bluetooth and constant freezes or hard resets. But it seems that you don't give a damn thing about it, and continue to ask for donations.
Look at mattk_r, he supported Pandora Kitchen until it has gotten to a perfect point. There were no issues whatsoever, and ROM performed so great that it was a pleasure to spend a few hours just to build my own rom one day.
Too bad the development has stopped right before the new builds started to come out.
I admire CRCinAU as I have tried every single ROM he has build and I've seen how much effort he put in his "creations". Most of them performed very well for me. But, I like ROM's to be as small as they can be; without any additional software/pictures/sounds/never used OEM apps etc. That's why I have stopped on Tyr0 v.1.2 ROM, which at the moment suits me quite well.
CRCinAU, if you don't mind of course, I would love to see a kitchen from you based on your latest release. It doesn't have to have all the OEM additional apps, as I believe everyone of us has them all. But it would be nice to have Bigstorage ROM in it's initial version, with the option (if possible of course) to remove some of the OEM apps such as Welcome Center, Error Reporting, Clear Storage etc. What would you say?
Yknow what would be sweeet
If we had a kitchen, that was updateable like in the first post. That could easily port other builds (Maybe having easyportoven built in).
a bunch of SYS folders from recent builds
People that want to play with porting may want to check this thread for SYS builds:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402752
I admire the work the many chefs on this forum put out there work has made my device so much better.
I love CRC's roms, but I was wondering if there is a way to strip out OEM stuff, I like my roms as clean as possible from flash, maybe with the options to put stuff back in with UC if its wanted.
(I hate the HTC button task manager for example)
I have though about trying to cook a rom myself, but its far to complex for me dig around and find what I would need, one, large, thread would be perfect.
Maybe if people want to make sure you give credit, they could add a hard coded boot screen or summit?

As I've said here, I don't think it'd be wise for me to release a kitchen as I've hugely customised it for my needs... This means you need cygwin + perl + bash etc installed on windows for it to work correctly. It would also take me quite some time to convert it back into a simple kitchen for someone else to use.
As far as the average person goes, this would be way beyond them. I don't mind if someone builds one based on the dump of my ROM - MRH ROMs are built exactly this way...

I believe that most of the cheffs here don't do a lite ones because of the users complains saying "after installing this or that oem software, the phone start to slow down on speed" and starr requesting those oem cooked in.

Dude! U rock!! is this big storage?
Hey peeps, I have done some searching and have been unsuccessful in finding what I'm looking for. Essentially, I'm looking for naked kitchen files. Unaltered ROM, SYS, and OEM folders. Am I blind? I find a lot of chef kitchens, but I would like one that is plain with the basics that I can build from scratch. Any chefs have the builds they would mind posting? Thanks guys. I appreciate the work you all do.
the only way to really do it now is to port your own. i dont have the knowledge of doing it or learning so i just use others...
good luck as i would like a bare minimum sys and rom too.
if you go into starbase64 4shared. he has an all in one oem zip file. there is a lot of useful things in that. also you can make your own too. i use a file called OEMizer.

Thanks for the quick reply. This cooking stuff is getting addictive. I recently worked with the AT&T WM6 and stripped the crap out of it. It's super quick and built like I want it. I don't think my wife likes it very much. I'm supposed to be remodeling the house.
Dear cookers on XDA,
I am a kinda rookie on the cooking area. And i would love to make my own ROM with my stuff and etc in it. But its pretty hard with minimum info on the internet. I have searched many times on the internet for a good tutorial how to cook your own rom, or how to edit a rom. Only found 1 pretty good tutorial but it wasnt a perfect one with the needed details.
Now my question is, can somebody make a good tutorial how to edit/make/cook a rom?
With like everything in it, like add/remove your apps/cabs change your splash screen etc. I would realy love that!
I think im not the only one who likes this, a good tutorial about cooking!
So i hope that somebody can make one!
Yours,
Ruubs
(Sorry for my bad english)
The Tutorials exist in this very thread. A simple search would allow you to see them.
Here is one for 6.1.
For 6.5, not really a tutorial but it can get you started HERE
Thank you,
but i allready used that tutorial, and that one is not the best one, much bugs in it. and i also need a tutorial or instructions how to edit an already cooked rom.
and i also used that 6.5 kitchen, its a nice one but the kitchen issnt ready yet. and i cant edit an already cooked rom with it.

that the roms cant be edit.

In the Diamond ROM development section is a thread 'noob kitchen'.
It started about someone asking for a light ROM and how to add his own stuff, it ended up me and him discovering how to cook and describing the first steps at how to start and the things to do afterwards.
The short answer:
Get a simple kitchen to start with, bebe's own kitchen on platformrebuilder is a good start (visual-kitchen is complete but can be complex if you just start).
Dump a stock rom with it (bebe has excellent example-videos on his forum) and start playing.
With the new rom-unlocker you can dump more existing roms, but it is VERY important to remember the wishes of the original cook. Don't go posting it around.
If you get into the more 'advanced' stuff like porting os-builds a complex kitchen with more tools ready like ervius visual-kitchen is good.

no problem.
if i could make a people happy with a rom that was generated by deleting files/entries here and there or putting files/entries here and there by respecting the syntax, that was finding out by really roots, than is o.k. for me.
if we look back than we have to say that we all marked roms with our names.
only some people, not much, are the really cookers (roots). the most of them stopped their works and change it back to their life (study finished, wife comes back from hospital, but not alone, a small think, i think it called baby
we need people like you describe ... cause changing my name to his name means that their spend time to learn/understand structure and syntax. some new ideas can grown up.
the new kind of kitchens can do seperate languages, xips, roms, syss and oems by using "grafical interface". but when we do a snapshot of this kitchens, you get a better dos-optic by using more mouse for adding/deleting completly folders. no details. enough good for beginners, but a step back for not-beginners. i think, its time to say, that kitchens couldn't be a one-man-project, lets help you and seperate the works. with deep-detail-love.
for beginners i say "respect the search-functions, dont use a specified devicename like diamond touch blablabla. but use htc as devicename for more tips. the cook-rules/syntax are nearly the same for all htc's"
for no-beginners with strong answers i want to say "if you angry to reading a question now for 100 times ... nobody kills you, if you NOT answer!!!"

I have added NetCF3.5 in the UC Folder because it did not come as part of the SYS for some reason. Also, as always M2D is in the UC for those who simply don't want it.
Note: As per Barogi's post, NetCF is already cooked in the rom by default. So, after unpacking my .rar, go into the UC folder and delete the NETCF3.5 cab. Thanks for pointing it out, Barogi!
Note: After downloading, dump the XDA_UC folder to the root of the SD card and flash. Once it is done flashing, hard reset the device. Let it do its initial set up and soft reset. Upon second boot, a pop up will come up saying that it will install the apps in the UC folder. Click on OK and it will look like it isn't doing anything for about 10 minutes. Once it is done, it will say that it has finished and that you can reset if you want... do it!

Instructions for Weather Fix:
Before installing the cab, select your weather in the M2D weather tab and update it to get the reading. Once you are done, install the cab and soft reset. All done

Hey just to let you know... the new PPCK now includes .netcf 3.5 into the builds so now theres not an option to have it cooked in, it just includes it anyway. What i had noticed with Build 24001 was that the messaging app was glitchy when going in and out of conversations, it might have just been my rom though.. other than that it was really quick.
can u post some screen-shots ? is it the same as all the other branches ?
Sorry, no screenshots this time. The UI is exactly the same, there is no change whatsoever as far as graphics. This is just a newer release. If I were to put Barogi's screenshots next to screenshots of this rom, you would not be able to tell the difference.

I guess that explains why I did not see it as an option in the kitchen anymore. I ended up including it since I have seen this issue being random, depending on what build I was using. For instance, I made a 23518 (which I never released) and that had it as an option in the kitchen... well, you get my point. Thanks for letting me know about this!
Bugs
*Dialer shows a scroll bar on the side... I have tried many dialers in my roms and all of them do that except the stock dialer. If anyone knows a fix, I am open to suggestions

After downloading I do not see a XDA-UC folder. Was it supposed to be in the rar or what? Sorry this is the first rom ive downloaded with the UC Install.
Love the Rom for the most part. Fast, seems very stable. Question tho; is the opening book sequence hard coded into the Rom? It's great if your customizing the Rom for yourself, but I would prefer something more.....well let's just say different

The folder is there. You are probably just opening the file and extracting the files by themselves rather than extracting everything to a folder. If you have winrar, simply extract the whole archive and you will get a folder named BuildOS with everything in it (including the XDA_UC folder).

Love the Rom for the most part. Fast, seems very stable. Question tho; is the opening book sequence hard coded into the Rom? It's great if your customizing the Rom for yourself, but I would prefer something more.....well let's just say different

I'm sorry, but I don't think I understand what you are asking here. What is the "opening book sequence"? Also, what do you mean by "I would prefer something more.....well let's just say different"? Different in what sense? Do you want more apps? Less apps? Cooked in? Different customization method?
The reason why I cook my roms the way I do is because I have seen Chefs literally wiping out a crap load of variations of the same rom because they try to satisfy everyone's requests. I personally don't have the time to do such a thing, so I leave it to the end user to put whatever they want in their roms, with a few exceptions (I just do the cooking ). You will always see people asking for different browsers, different UIs, different versions of... well, everything. Unless I see a trend or a consensus to put something specific in the rom, I will likely not cook it in. That is simply my way of cooking ...

I am sooo sorry. I've had a small stroke, and my spelling/typing is not what it used to be: I meant boot, not book lol. And I was not asking for you to cook a custom rom: I know your a busy man: ( I was thinking yesterday you must be God, your everywhere on here lol). I was inquiring about the opening two screens, which are fine, just not what I would like to see. I boot my phone up once in the AM and then whenever it freezes or acts funky (which USUALLY occurs when I'm trying to show how awesome it is lol) and I would like something more professional looking. If the opening sequence is something I can hack without having to cook a rom I'd like to give it a go; if not, oh well. So far love love what you've done; phone is fast, has few lags, and seems super stable. So I'm not asking for you to cook a custom rom, just looking for info.

I see...
Well, I believe that you can disable the startup animation via Advanced Config. As far as the bootsplash, there are ways of changing it. The initial screen involves replacing a file in \Windows called "welcomehead.96.jpg" (I am talking about the FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU image )
The other two, I am not too sure where they are located, but I will try to make one with more "standard" boot screens... (I know mine aren't what someone would call "professional", but then again I do this for fun and coffee )
I will cook another one and post it (maybe later today).
BTW, you mentioned a few lags... Where exactly do you see these?
