iPaq 114 won't boot - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi, I have a problem.
My iPaq 114 hangs on the Windows Mobile 6 green boot screen.
I've tried to hard reset, it said "CLEAN BOOT", but that doesn't work. I've tried about 10 hard resets, all the same.
I've then tried using the SP38871 package to update the ROM, but the program tells me there is no connection between the iPaq and my PC.
Then I've found that if I push the Calendar+OK and tap the reset, it goes into a "SDCard Download Image" so I've copied the "HPImage.nbf" file from the SP38871 package, placed it on an SD Card, but then it says: "No download file found"
It's also acting weird, meaning that it does not start when I push the power button, only when I tap the reset (does that mean Windows Mobile boots, but then the whole screen turns black?)
I've uploaded a video to show you what I mean.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-jeOyB97Qs
What could be the problem ? Could someone please help !
EDIT: I wrote the ROM file (HPImage.nbf) using ntrw.exe, but the iPaq says: "No boot block!" ... Does anyone have a good ROM ? Or if someone has a working iPAQ 114, could you please make a ROM backup and send it to me ? Or paste the HEX ROM Header. Just follow this guide:

Ok..... it seems I`m having charging problems...
I thought the battery was full, because the orange light did not come up.... Then, after playing with it a bit more, I notice that it charges only if I take out the battery, put it back in, and the connect it to USB or charger... When I start the device, it does not charge anymore.
Also, I've found that my PC can't even connect with it, eventhough it's running. Could it be the mini-usb connector ? Or maybe the internal ipaq battery ?
I've tried 2 USB-to-miniusb cables, and same symptoms on both of them...

Hi Kiraly,
Hmm, sometimes Devices from HTC is not charging if you into boot loader Modus. that´s the reason why you must always a charged battery before you flashing a new OS.
Do you try: Windows+OK+Audiorecording (button on right side) hold it, make a Reset with you pen and hold the 3 buttons?
start your device normally again?
When your battery is dead:
we have sometimes same Problem, if the IPAQ 114 not used for more then one Month, the battery is deep discharged. Sometimes there is no chance to reactivate the battery. (Same problems we have some years ago with the HTC Wizard too)
I solved that problem with a External (laboratory) Power Supply ( I pushed the + and - contacts of the battery (not mounted into your PDA) really shortly with 12 Volt and maybe fixed current of 1 Ampere.
But this is really dangerous, do that only (if the battery not working or will not charging) for a few seconds. (max 2 x 5 seconds with a short interval between the 5 seconds)
remember that LiIo Batteries can really dangerous.
After this procedure the Battery will charging again. Sometimes it can help too, to leave your PDA connected to PC or Power Adapter for one night.

stuck in RUU download mode

Unlike other ipaqs, the 111 and 211 (and their varients) were not made by HTC. They were made by Foxconn. As for your problem, what filesystem is your SD Card formatted. Try formatting it with the FAT-16 file system (if you format the card with the standard windows utility, choose FAT) first, and then putting the image on the card. You might also need a file called BLDIAG.nb0 (search around for that one). Did you ever think to check out the ipaq 211 (or 210) threads to see what they did?

hp 114 stuck in Flash or ruu mode
this happened to me also. To resolve this... download the HP rom up date for hp 114 in hp.com. You should never install this using vista... find a computer with XP OS download corresponding MCDC from microsoft so that XP would be able to recognize your PDA. Then run the spxxxxx (rom update) from your computer...
The upgrade process will take about 7 min. but sadly this does not solve frequent hanging and loss of data by WM6 that is why I am looking around to software updates. Still no luck...

Newbie cooked one in lumpistefans, but can't install.

I cooked a ROM in lumpistefans kitchen, dowloaded it to my doc's on P.C but when I click install all I get is a Black box for a second, then nothing. Is this because it downloads in dos? if so, what do I do?( sorry, I'm a bit thick when it comes to computers etc.!)
I've also sinc'd it onto xda, but still can't install.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, guys.
Silent D
If you want the best method of doing it, which has always worked for me, go get the new version of XDATools with the bootloader.
Download the rom from the Kitchen as an .nb1 file. Grab an SD card (32MB of greater) that you can format. Use the tools to write the rom to the SD card with the bootloader.
Put the SD card into the XDA and then just power it back on. It should ask you if you want to flash the device. Just click yes to flash the device.
Maybe you need to unzip the file then try install.
Thanks ed207_us that was a great help, I managed to install using my card though twice I also installed direct from pc to xda.
:? :? I have successfully installed 4 different cooked roms plus xda developers rom but STILL it doesn't power up outside of the cradle.
All external buttons, and all functions work in cradle, but when removed, green LED will flash for a while, then stops.
If I try to opperate phone out of cradle I can do a few functions/opperations but it crashes (No LEDs at all)
When I've installed a cooked rom I have followed instruction to do a hard reset, but it won't start up again if I press after 60 sec's. I have to put xda back in cradle.
Also when installing new rom there is no message saying that the old rom is being removed, should there be?
Is there a way to remove the previous rom before new one is installed? as I'm sure the problem with the locked buttons must have something to do with the original O2 rom( though I am only a very green Newbie, so I don't really know D*ck).
I'm getting T'd off with this now and am beginning to think that my xda is totally shot, so any more ideas would be most greatfully received.
Thanks guys

I've never faced anything like this.
But I wonder is that is not linked to your battery being damaged, old, or out of order. If is works when connected and stops when removed.
What shows you battery power gauge when removed from the cradle ?
Thanks tanguy
Battery is ok I think as the power bar shows 100%.
Silent D
well a battery can still be defect even if it display itself as 100%
i mean if the battery is damaged so it think that it's full but full being
that it have 60sec of power
I think it has to be the battery as well. There is no message saying the old rom has been removed and it is not like a PC OS where you have to format the old OS or anything. You just flash the whole unit at one time.
You should probably send out the unit to be repaired under warranty
OK,fair comment, but why the problem with the external buttons, and the inability to restart using the hard reset button?
cheers guys

 Sorry just answered the second part myself, if there's a problem with the battery the battery switch might not work....Duhhhh

Qtek 9090 Dead - Update not 100%, no reaction, no bootloader

Hey guys,
I've searched the forum for like 5 hours or so
to find a thread that could help me solve this solution...
I've tried everything that had something to do with "dead"
in the BlueAngel and Blueangel Update etc. section
What it does:
- The screen stays black
- If I try to charge, the Red 'Charging' LED doesn't become red
unless I take the battery out of the Qtek and charge..
Then it gets red (WEIRD)
- No connection with activesync or rom update utilities
What happened:
- Rom update stopped after a few percentages...
If i try to get a new rom in it with or without cradle
with the following rom update utilities:
- BaUpgradeUt.exe:
then I get a Connection Error (101) when I try to update
- MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe:
ERROR 150: ROM UPGRADE UTILITY ERROR
(Rom Utility not designed for this device)
or "Finished" immediately (but it's not finished)
(Depends on the rom I use, and I used like 10 different roms)
Soft reset / Hard reset doesn't work,
I even tried to Hard Reset by holding the
Voice Record button + Power button + Reset button for 2 minutes
(I tried Camera + Power + Reset too) with the battery,
and I tried these without the battery...
No reaction...
If someone can help me, please do...
Thnx in advance
Maybe you can try thingds from this

Nope,
I've tried that too, but I don't get the USB or WCEUSB in mtty...
The COM ports don't react.
I know how to use it, because I used it like 10 times or somethin'
But I think the problem is, that I can't get in the bootloader mode
(or any other mode)... So there's no response from my Angel..
Thanks anyway..
have you tryed to remove battery, leave it without battery fo an hour or two then put the battery back and power on the device ?
this method may boot your device. If it worked go imediately in bot loader mode and reflash your favorite rom
If it does not helps maybe it is hardware problem ... and you should leave your device in service center
Tried this too
Isn't there any solution except for service center?
I want to know how I can solve this problem,
'cause it could happen again when I update the rom later.
And I know I'm not the only one with this problem.
It would help me and a lot of other BlueAngel owners..
Is it possible to make a serial connection with the bottom I/O port and issue the necessary commands with mtty? could be that there is some logic powered on the board but not enough to make the "USB" section powered up.. similar to serial a console cable on network gear etc. OR.. is there any known secrets such as a hardware debug mode initiated with certain pin(s) on the I/O connector.. such as grounding one or two.. any HTC tech documents floating around for troubleshooting?

Bricked hx2110 help

I did a rom upgrade on an hx2110 - installed successfully, but now the only thing I can get the pda to do is go into Pre bootloader mode (i.e. Pre-BL 1.00.02 blue screen). SO I tried the universal bootloader method - makes it all the way to the flashing portion but then does NOTHING - the terminal simply sits there saying "ready" and does not upload anything - the program sees the correct communication port (ie. usb01 or whatever). HOW do I force an upload???
Thanks!
Rusty
On another note - I had purchased a working 2110 with a good mobo to replace this one if the flash is not repairable - is that a difficult procedure? Unfortunately, the 2110 I purchased was not working, but this may still be in the books at a later time, so some info would help.
Thanks!

Rusty,
You are so lucky that I experienced this problem and solved it on my own. You did not specify what ROM you were loading, but here is the fix:
First you need to get another pocketpc, hx2000 series like yours that is working.
Put that device into white screen bootloader or pre-BL mode (depending on which device you got to borrow)
Ensure that the battery on that device is 100% charged.
Run the original ROM upgrade for the ROM you wish to install (use PDAViet if it's WM6 and use the HP SP32408 to Run it)
Hit all the Ok screens until it brings you to the one that has the "UPDATE" button.
Remove the working Ipaq from the cradle and place it's 100% battery in you own.
Put your Ipaq into pre-BL mode and put it on the cradle. Press the calendar button to activate the usb drivers.
Once it says "USB", Hit the "UPDATE" button and it will load the proper ROM to your IPaq.
When It is done, perform a hard reset by formatting the PS on the device.
Voila!! Your Ipaq is Un-Bricked!! Put in your original battery and charge it up!
Enjoy!!

hi Rustmonkey,
i have the similar things - i made my hx2110 brick when i flashed it with a different language ROM, it went 100% when i flashed the ROM but didn't work at all after that.
the problem is i can get it in the bootloader mode after trying many ways, at the same time the pc can't find any USB device at all.
how to make it work again?
thanks.

You're going to need another hx2000 series to make sure the battery is fully charged - put the battery in and then use the bootloader keystrokes immediately (contacts+itask+reset) - you made need to tap reset a few times while holding the other two to get it to work. After it is in bootloader mode, push the calander button while it is connected to the cradle/usb to get the pc to recognize it

really amazing !!!!!!
I just saved my hx2110 as per your step by step instruction now.
Thank you very much.
ok, well, I thought they were fixed... now one of them freezes at the bootup screen, even when I do a clean reset... I've tried reflashing multiple times to no avail... any ideas whats going on?
ok, got everything working - reflashed the non-working one back to an original 2003 rom - which made if freeze at boot - then upgraded it via pre-bl to 1.00.00.L - from here, it wouldn't do anything after filling the bar at the boot screen, but it didn't CRASH (as in lights out) - so I ran the pre-bl again and ran the flash program for 1.00.00.L again WITHOUT swapping between the 2495 and the 2110 - just put the 2110 in pre-bl and away we went - flashed, formatted, and booted - then proceed to upgrade to WM6 via 1.00.00.H --> 1.02.00.H --> WM6 - works GREAT!!!
Thanks for the help everyone!
Dear All,
I`ve got the same problem but i don`t have a second ipaq.. is there anyway to repair it with out the second device???
Thank you very much

Hello,
I have run into some problems with a bricked hx2110.
I was flashing the IPAQ to a new ROM WM5 (Battery was full and I read all the instructions 10 times prior to flashing). While flashing, the progress bar went to 100% then faded out immediately and it wouldn't reset (clean reset). I put the battery in my friends hx3000 series and the battery I used was completely dead. It did flash to 100% though, but not matter how many times I try 1 + 3 + reset, it doesn't reboot. If I can figure out how to get it to boot, that would be great, but I can't get anything to come up with any key combinations.
To this point all I can do is get into Pre-BL mode 1.00.04. I have tried the below scenarios on two machines, both running windows XP SP2 (USB 2.0) with the firewall and virus software disabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382&page=4
1) I have tried the above links directions and used the the Universal Bootloader (Bootloader.exe). It gets to the point where it says "The PDA should be updating now" or something similar but nothing happens. I don't get any errors regarding communications (it sees the device when I hold the "Calendar" button until it says USB; windows then recognizes the device as "HP USB ..." so I know it's communicating).
2) I tried to use the Bootloader_GUI.exe beta so that I can watch the progress indicator but it just sits at 0%. There are no error messages so it is communicating but for some reason, the device won't let it flash (and the flash utility thinks it's doing something).
3) I tried the original ROM flash from HP (SP29856.EXE) and it recognizes the device, but because the current ROM on the PDA is hosed, when it does it's "verifying" process, it comes up with "?" marks as the model number and when it goes to flash it starts at .1% then says "FINISHED" immediately. The ROM utility thinks it flashed it correctly but it didn't flash anything. I'm guessing that the verification of the PDA failed and forced the utility to not flash.
Does anyone have ANY ideas of what to try? I wish I had another HX2000 series PDA and try the "swap" thing prior to hitting the update button but I don't. All I have to work off of it my sad bricked PDA and a full battery (friend keeps charging it). His PDA is an HX3000 series.
Any ideas would be appreciated,
Thanks!
Are you using a the HP flash program that is specified for your device?
2nd - you might be able to use your buddies device in a swap as well - not sure but its worth a shot - use HPs upgrade program, let it verify, then swap your device onto the same cable - overwrite the firmware in the update program for HIS device with firmware compatible with yours and then hit update - let us know if this works...
I am using the "official" HP flash program specific for the HX2110 (from their website - SP29856), bootloader.exe, and bootloader_gui.exe
I wanted to try my friends, but he won't let me touch his because I bricked mine lol (I swore nothing would happen to his but he still won't let me try it).
Anyway, I just copied over the ROM image (from HP) and stripped out the header (now showing 64 bytes before the ECEC). The ROM is for WM2003. I copied the ROM in binary using psdwrite.exe to an 256 MB SD card. As soon as I can get the battery back, I'm going to try to flash it from the SD card. If this fails, I am going to try to play around with MTTY / USB and manually call the ROM flash and see what happens.
Having another HX2000 series would make this easy (maybe a little TO easy )!
Bootloader never worked for me - but if you can get it to manually call the flash, more power to you good luck!
Well it was worth a shot. After spending the better part of the day with the PDA, I have made no more progress (can't get Pre-Bl to update). The only option I have now is to find someone with another hx2000 series that is willing to resurrect it from the dead for me (PM me if you can help - I will pay two way fare). Until that happens, it's going in the "broken" drawer with all my old comp stuff .
Thanks to all the tips and tricks that is posted on these forums and brighthand! There is a wealth of information on this topic and without them, I would have gotten nowhere in trying to repair the device (granted, I wouldn't have been intrigued to upgrade the ROM in the first place and would still have a working PDA, but that's besides the point ).
Best of luck to you all.
1).download original ROM from HP (sp29799) -extract files
2) download http://upload.dvhk.pl/content.php?id=88892 - replace files
3) flesh device.

Did something wrong

Well, it seems, i'm having a big problem:
i wanted to upgrade my fresh MDA Pro to WM6.1 as i wanted to have SDHC-Support and didn't find any really working one with WM5. But: I DIDN'T FULLY Charge the battery, so i received an error as the device couldn't flash the ext-rom. I can still enter the factory-reset-screen. Is the battery going to charge there, too?, so that i can just wait and wait, ultill the battery is going to get full and reflash?
Well, in short:
Wanted to upgrade my device, it failed (maybe due to low battery)
I can still enter the hard-rest / "reset to facory defaults"-screen
if i press any button therem (ie 0 or X) the battery-led links red short and nothing happens.
tried entering bootloader, but nothing happened exept for the battery-ed short red blinking.
does the battery keep charging in the "reset to defaults"-screen?
is it possible to flash this device via SD-Card?
WELL - FIXED IT MYSELF, i was able to enter the ootloader and exectue the task 28at mtty, so i went back to original rom!!
thanks for the info with the tasks and mtty-tutorial
tw, i tried around with the SDHC-Drivers / Files, but didn't find any really working. Which driver works on 8G SDHC Class6-Card?

Mediatek phone stuck on bootsplash

Hello
I have a chinese phone (Utime G7) powered by a mediatek MT6589. It has worked for about 4 years very good, but now it doesn't boot.
When I try to power it up, it first shows the first bootsphash, passes it, and then shows the second bootsplash. It's here when the phone gets stuck, and I tried to let it for about two hours to see if it achieves boting, but it continues on the bootsplash. I tried to take out the battery, taking out the sim card and SD card... and still the same. If I press any button (volume or power on) when the phone is in this state I can feel two short vibrations.
Also I tried to power it on while I hold one of the volume keys pressed and the recovery menu shows, but it is in chinese and I don't understand nothing.
Does anibody know what may be happening to my phone? I would have tried doing a hard reset, but first I would like to recover all of it's internal data if it's possible.
I have not tried to modify anything before the problem started. It happened suddently, and about 4 days before I felt about 3 strange reboots while I was using the phone, but after them it continued working good.
Many thanks and sorry if there are mistakes on the text. I'm spanish and I don't speak English very well
Hello
Finally I could fix my phone. I found a backup of the original ROM in a russian forum and I flashed it changing the cache and data partitions with the originals of my phone (With SP flashtool I achieved doing a complete dump of it before the flashing).
Now the phone worls fine but I have two problems:
1.- I have lost both IMEI numbers. I tried recovering them with "Engineering mode" but no luck.
2.- The phone runs out of battery very fast. When I charge it full, the battery percentage decreases at a normal rythm until it reaches 90%. Then it drops down very fast and in a couple of minutes it shows 0% and the phone shuts down itself. I did several complete charging/discharging cycles but still the same.
What can I try to solve these problems?
