Apologies for long post , but I am very keen on this project and I am in need of help from all the lovely cookers out there .. Well I have an idea , but unfortunately lack the skills to turn it to reality , so I was hoping someone with the time , energy and skills would be kind ... I like the concept behind "remote tracker", because it will basicly sleep silently and hidden , waiting for you to send the text , then wakes up and will txt you back with various info .. like GPS / cell tower location info , new owner , new sim card .. txt message s ect .. It also can detect a SIM card change . So this would be good to have if the phone was stolen ... NOW .. as I understand it .. the settings are inside a encrypted reg file of some sort .. Now If this SW got added to the ROM the reg file would also need to be in there , and I am assuming such things as the emergency number and email stuff like that needs to be in there as well .. I dont know anything about cooking up ROMS , but I think there is a part of the rom .. pre ROM ?? .. where you can Specfiy application to be installed as part of the rom , like for instance the updated .net version , AppToDate, and any opther " supporting software's" stuff like that ..
I also like TRACK ME , while this offers somewhat similar functionality , it is idaly used for stuff like , for example tracking a run or walk .. I can add tis manually , but if you already baking , it might not be too hard to add it in
Track me needs some SQL stuff too , so it might be more trouble
So My question is .. can someone please teach me how to bake up a Rom based on RUU_Diamond_HTC_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1
With remote tracker, and Track Me , all working and configured for my infos and SIM card .. and I dont know if there is a way , even after a hard reset that some part of the rom would auto load the proggie and settings and everything .. maybe if it just loaded remote tracker for now , and had a way that even if they hard reset , it would still work ... like send my girlfreinds mobile a text saying " phone is at GPS/ Cell phone tower location xxxx .... and has new sim xxxxx in it"
ALSO A SIDE note , the method of flashing from the Internal memory comes to mind , as that might even make it a bit harder for a thief , or the causal person who found my phone ...
Any idea at all , also if you guys have used other softwatres for tracking the phone after it is stolen or lost . do tell ..

You realize that this solution will not work if teh thief will flash his own/other rom?
As usual - you will never get teh smart ones, only the stupid/uneducated ones will get caught...

Not sure why you see it as a bad thing, but i'd personally rather have somebody completely dumb with WM rather than one who knows the tricks and work-arounds.

There are already apps on the market, that enable you to track your phone, receive an SMS with the new number...
Take a look at kaspersky e.g.
And of course, if someone flashes the phone, its all useless. So I don´t think its worth the effort.

you guys seriously think that someone who is gonna steal a phone or find a phone is gonna be able to flash the rom? first thing they are gonna do is try and sell the phone. you guys are giving the rest of the world population to much credit. majority of ppl have no clue what a rom is or what flashing something even meens. but yes a tracking software would be essential now that gps are getting so accurate u might even find the guy.

After a long period of very use of my trinity , updated to the various updated ROMs, used to have a lot of power in my hands and a lot of applications and functions , now my Boss force me to use , as separate device , a blavkberry 8700 .
What a stupid device is it in comparison !!
I read some thread about BBconnect , but could anybody help to find the way to install what need into my trinity to ADD it the Blackberry performance , transferring in only 1 device all my needs?

I'm in the same situation...I tryes BBConnect, but it makes the Trinity too slow...and furthermore I didn't get the appropriate account set up, in fact no way to sync with MS xchange...
It would be great having a fast way to "replicate" the account from my BB...and dismiss it 4ever!

Have you confirmed with your internal technology straff that they will allow you to use a non-Blackberry device with the Blackberry service? I know there are now ways to use non-Blackberry devices with the Blackberry service (even if they don't work well), but your internal IT people will have to configure your account to do so.
I asked my IT people to do that for me and they completely refused. The reason they use Blackberry (instead of Microsoft exchange, etc.) is because with Blackberry, they have total control over how I use my Blackberry, so they can close any security holes and otherwise restrict my use of the device. For example, we can't use the SD card on our phones, can't use Messaging, and can only use the Blackberry browser for the Internet. While this sucks as a user, it lowers their cost to support since there is much less chance that I will install a rogue application or otherwise screw up my Blackberry and then expect them to help.
If they're willing to let you use it, I'd definitely say go for it, but be aware that at some point you're probably going to have tot tell them that they need to update their server information to start sending the mail to a new device ID. When you do this, they're probably going to ask why, which could open a whole can of worms...

I would like to use my P3600 i.o. the BB. In this case I could avoid having 2 devices...I asked my IT dept and, as you stated, they did not support it. Now, is there a way to use BB on my P3600 with no help rom the IT dept?
I have the P3600, the BB, and 2 TIM wih the same number (1 normal +1 twincard). Obviuously, I do not want to dismiss my P3600 and use only the BB!!! PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!

As far as I know, you can have BB connect working, by using the DOPOD WM5 ROM and BB Connect version 2.1.2.52
You should try, it will work.
BBConnect will work with WM6 on Trinity.
Search this forum for bbconnect_wm6_professional_bb_4_1_.0.0.90.exe this is the BBConnect install for Trinity WM6
Ensure that your SIM has been enabled for Blackberry before you install. The rest is easy.

what if the person who found\stole my device performed HR(?!)..
ok so what i was thinking of is having a way to change\modify the buttons sequence (witch every body knows) to perform HR so it will be like your own locking code..
unfortunately..i dont have this kind of tools and knowledge to do it so i'm asking u guys...

I've used my PDA2K on & off for the past 5 years but have always felt it's pretty much not worth the effort using it for anything serious. The net is slow and the general Windows 2003 SE operating system fragile, I reckon I've soft reset a thousand times since owning the unit. What advice can anyone give on how to improve it's capabilities & make it less boring to use, what change should I try. I'm not worried about frying the ROM as I only use this to surf the net nowadays & thats about it, just feel it's too good to bin but want to get something more out of it than I'm getting now.
Thanks any advice on possible software changes would be appreciated.

The PDA2K is still the best device if you need a mobile log typing unit. It's beacuse of the built in keyboard and the big portrait format screen (wich is the best if you have to to type in lists, contact data a.s.o.). This unique feature is the reason why I can't change my PPC.
Win 6.5 for me is not so important, there are few drawbacks compared to WM2003SE (no build in Excel encryption, less usable screen area (because of hotkeys), no direct menus in office applications.
install wm5, when you get bored install SPB Mobile Shell, when you get bored again change the color of the menu
seriously its quite nice app, have nice launcher etc... try it...

Don't get me wrong I love it but just feel I'm missing something as I'm sure it's capable of so much more.
I'll take the advice and have a play with upgrading, do current 2003 apps such as my TomTom run on the upgrades. Even if not I think I'll give it a go anyway.

I think he becomes unconfortable of the buggy WMG.S (or 6.5 we use other names cause Mycrosooft hunts us) you need to taste first WM6... then 6.1 his manilla 2D is great... and then G.S is beta but fine... try it all but men

I took your advice and upgraded and its a lot less boring.
I can't sync though, it tries but the an error message appears on BA moaning about a USB port not being available.
When I now turn on the BA I get a white screeb with start and a few icons at the top and Phone + Contacts at the bottom, clicking start takes me to a black screen with icons. If I soft reset I get the red/green/blue/white stripes while it resets.
Is all this normal or am I still stuck in bootloader, I'm new to all this so what I mean is could this be something I've not finished off correctly that is stopping me syncing now.
I don't mind fixing all the other problems once I can sync OK.

Heh tjpearson, you was searching for new use cases. I suggested to use your device more professionally. You decided to have an OS update. This way you decided the best use case for you is trouble shouting.
Seriously, I can't understand why OS upgrading is such an important thing on the BA. The benefits of the device lies in the big screen and the built in keyboard. If you search for a nice GUI take a iPhone.

Men write exactly the error message please, Meaning it says this... I guess i need to do.... I think my problem is... are worthless words here please provide exact messages. (does you enable the checkbox advanced network on setting usb settings?)

If I can guess what you've upgrade... I mean I nedd to know wich ROM are you upgrade please provide the name or the link where you find it...
FIRST: The OS 2003 didnt has the soft buttons PHONE at left bottom and right at right bottom cause the new OS are designed for PDA phones that has buttons on that place... thats all... ok.
SECOND: you said that when you tap on start it tooks you to a black screen with icons i gueeeeeeees you have WM6.5 cause since WM2003 we had start cascade menu like windows XP or VISTA or Whatever... Thats normal on WM6.5 if you want the older start menu? just... downgrade a WM6 or 6.1 it has the older start menu.

Well the boot screen is hardcoded in roms so... is not an issue is normal we can only change the splashscreen...
known new features and pro's for a new ROM tooks its time men I mean new apps and programs are not supported with WM2003 so this is the very first pro of upgrading...
You are not stuck on bootloader or... are you on a black screen with Serial or USB upside and downside a version... it is BOOTLOADER not the RGB screen! ok?
if it cant boots and it cant pass trough the tricolor screen well seems you need to upgrade again maybe your batt was dead on middle process and it dont have enough batt to boot... but maybe you dont wait the time... or maybe you need reupgrade a rom...

1. I did not change nor delete anything here.
2. Again, why change the OS to a Version the device is not made for. The only reason I can see is a better system GUI or new applications with a better GUI. That's why I suggest to take a iPhone if this is important.
3. I'm frustrated because I'm realy interested in the technical benefits of WM6.x. Better WLAN Connection? Stereo Bluetooth? Some unique apps that doesn't run on wm2003?
But as soon somebody speaks about WM6 on the BA the focus changes to trouble shouting.

EXACTLY! thats why OS upgrading imports... thats why this matters!
So does A2dp run on wm2003... noup!!!! it runs till wm5 aku version upgrade...

WOH I didn't mean to upset anyone here, I'm learning.
Have no idea of what I'm doing apart from trying to update my BA to surf the net faster, be better to use and so I don't have to soft reset every 2 minutes. This is my 1st attempt, if I've gone in too deep then tell me, I'll back grade to 2003 and start again with whatever you recommend.
You know your stuff so stay friendly, calm down and I can help you set up race suspension on a Yamaha R6 for the best cornering Or if you want advice on patching a Technomate Satellite box I'm your man.

I haven't figured out how to do anything except insert the battery and sim but WOW .. My totally honest first impression is maybe I like it as well or better than my iphone .. That is saying A LOT !!!
If you like it already, just wait until you figure out how to turn it on!
And of course when you start flashing ROMS and so forth...
It is better than the iPhone yes, but it is an entirely different beast. Don't expect it to run perfectly stock. If you spend a little time hacking it you can get it to run almost exactly how you'd like it to.
And really, isn't hacking half the fun of owning a WinMo phone? I think so. Even after I have my phone set up perfectly on one ROM, the urge to reflash is so strong that I can only hold out for a month, maybe two at most, until I start all over again. Yay.

That thread that burton gave you is definitely the best place to start, to learn about all sorts of things you can do with and to your new fav gadget.
Installing apps and tweaks to your phone is usually a simple matter of obtaining a .cab file for whatever you want to install, copy the .cab to your phone (to a file on the SD card is best, so you can leave them there for future re-use), and clicking on the .cab to run it. Once you're comfortable doing that, I would highly recommend running the two cabs I've attached here, they're a good idea for any new TP2 owner; they improve the native memory management in the phone, and free up memory much better once apps are done using it, and they'll go a long way towards making your whole experience better (without them, your memory use will keep creeping up on you until you reset).

You are so right. I have the HTC Shift pretty much since it came to the USA .. I bought one - unleashed FULL WinMo .. sold it .. then missed it and bought another. I have Full WinMo and Phone on it .. I think all I need is blue-tooth on the WinMo side and for WinMo to recognize a memory card. Pretty sure neither of those hacks have been worked out. I can wait!!

Well the Shift is an even more different beast. That thing really is a mini-computer. Not sure how great of a phone it would make.
Anyone know if HTC is planning on coming out with a successor to the Shift?
The shift is for sure a computer. I have Win7 on it and WinMo 6 I think .. There is no bluetooth on the phone side so voice comes out of the speaker. If you held it up to your head it would look ridiculous.

I think I have been using my iphone too long because I am having a horrible time figuring out a design I like. I miss my iphone desktop.
If you haven't already, try out SPB mobile shell. It gives a very customizable interface w/ widgets.
I think I have that App .. I will first look on my computer for it . thanks. The thing that I find annoying that I haven't figured out is when I click on the phone to make a call. It opens half keypad half contacts. No "hard" buttons to scroll up and down through the contact list. .. correct ??

That is partialy correct. It actually brings up your call log. To pull up a number from your contacts just start typing on the keypads (either the number i.e 818 555 1234 or the name ie. Dad = 323). You can also click the all contacts button and go to a pure list of contacts, which you can then scroll through with the touch screen.
