OGP carrier unlocked?

Spoke with AT&T today. I was told 3 months ago that if i waited 90 days they would unlock my phone (E980). After about an hour and a half on the phone talking to 3 different people, i was given the go ahead to go to the unlocking portal. I tried to unlock the phone but kept getting an error message.
The unlocking portal would not unlock the phone, stating that it was unable to unlock it at this time. So after another call the rep told me that her computer showed that there was an unlock code (which she gave me), and that it should work.
She started a case, gave me a case number and said someone would review the case and help me. I got a call a few hours later from someone else who was quite adamant that AT&T would not unlock my phone until my 2 year contract was up. This was even though i told them that i live on the US/Canada border and need to be able to have phone service without roaming.
So, i decided to try unlocking it myself since i now had the code.
I want to make sure i did everything correctly....
I went into the dialer and entered; 2945#*980#, then clicked on Network Lock, entered the unlock code, and pressed Unlock.
The phone then rebooted.
I don't have a T-mobile SIM to check if it works, so i went to an imei site, but it seems that it no longer tells if you are carrier unlocked. Is there some way for me to verify the unlock, other than throwing in a competing network's SIM?
dunno if this will help or not but when i got mine i thought it was locked as the ad didnt say it wasnt, I bought a code from cellunlocker and tried it and it "didnt work", kept getting a "not yet personalized" message. After checking the code and reading the email i saw it said something about that message.
"Different phones have different Unlock Code Input Instructions, Try the following Instructions in Order:
Method #1 Insert a non accepted simcard, and enter code when prompted for a code
OR
Method #2 Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#”
for example if its a p999 you enter “2945#*999#” or if its a p990 you enter “2945#*990#” etc…
OR
Method #3 to the dial screen and press 2945#*71001# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
OR
Method #4 Go to the dial screen and press *#865625# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
If Phone says, "Code Accepted" or "Network Unlock Successful" or "Not Yet Personalized" your phone is fully Unlocked"
Sorry if wrong suggestion but works in my country..
why not flash a custom ROM...it unlocks it automatically
Just buy a unlock code from eBay or unlockr?

I tried doing the unlock a second time, to verify. I used Method #2...the same method as I used the first time. I select "Network Lock" and I get a message saying "your phone is not personalized", with a "Dismiss" button directly below. Can I assume then that it is carrier unlocked?
Just curious...is my unlock code the same for all E980 phones, or is it sepecific to this IMEI?

The unlock code is specific to device imei. That's why u have to gibe ur serial or imei number to get the unlock code.

I am testing the waters for a potential swicth to T-Mobile with their new $100 for 4 lines plan. I used freemyblackbery.com. Select "Other Brands" from the menu on top. The code cost me less than $2 US and I received it by e-mail in less than 5 minutes. Confirmed that voice, sms, mms, e-mail, etc. working after entering the t-mobile apn info I found here.
Link to the instructions to use code
I am not affiliated in any way with the freemyblackbery site, this is the first time I have ever unlocked one of my phones using a code.

[Q] how to SIM unlock a T-Mobile G3?

Hi,
I just purchased a used T-Mobile G3 that I will be using on AT&T. Does anyone have any pointers on how to SIM unlock it? Is there a preferred method, or preferred supplied on eBay for unlock codes?
Thanks,
Toby.

OK, so I bought a code there, and 5 hours later is still hasn't arrived. So I bought a code from these guys: http://www.imei-unlocker.com/ which did come through. However, there are no instructions, so I found some on YouTube for the G3, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TFWgPX5Al8
The trouble is, when I put in my AT&T SIM card into this T-Mobile phone and start it up, I am not prompted to unlock the phone at all. It starts right into Android and behaves like an unlocked phone except it says the network is locked when I try to make a call. That's it. No indication anywhere of how to access the unlocking mode. I'm stuck.
Edit: I found these instructions on T-Mobile's website, which confirm the method in the video:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11974
Edit #2: about half hour after I wrote this the unlock code came through from the first site. I still no idea how to get past not being prompted to unlock, though.
Thanks,
Toby.
OK, resolved, if it helps anyone.
I managed to find an alternative method somewhere else that doesn't rely on an alien SIM card prompting an unlock code.
So the code from unlockcode247.com did eventually arrive, but without any instructions. A couple of hours after ordering it I gave up and bought a code from somewhere else. The email with that code took about 20 hours (!) to arrive, despite their page saying it would take a maximum of 2 hours. Bah! At least it contained a range of instructions on different methods to unlock in addition to the basic one of putting in an alien SIM. Someone might find these useful:
Method #1 Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#”
for example if its a p999 you enter “2945#*999#” or if its a p990 you enter “2945#*990#” etc…
[so that's 851 for my T-Mobile phone.]
Method #2 to the dial screen and press 2945#*71001# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
Method #3 Go to the dial screen and press *#865625# as if making a call, enter code when prompted

I do find it strange that the phone didn't react to an alien SIM, but oh well, it's great that there's another way around it. All unlocked fine now.
do not use imei-unlocker
I ordered 2 days ago from imei-unlocker but no response, i have sent them various emails but no response.
On the website It says delay for lg services. Maybe thats why?

Since this was a used phone it is possible that someone tried and failed unlocking it more than the maximum allowed tries.
I know whenever I have unlocked a phone, the prompt to unlock warns that you have x number of tries (I do not remember that number).
Also, I do not know if there is a way around it.

As long as you don't have any debt to T-Mobile don't they need to have a free solution to unlock your phone? For example if I called them right now they would unlock me for free even though I still have debt because I have had the phone for 6+ months. People got it unlocked through T-Mobile days after buying the phone by just saying they were going abroad.

I believe he has his unlock code. The problem is that when he boots up the phone with a different carrier's sim in it, it is not prompting him to enter an unlock code as it should.
Looking at my unlock instructions, I proposed the posibbility that someone tried and failed 10 times or more. Just guessing:
Read This First
* DO NOT use all attempts to enter the unlock code otherwise your phone will be hardlocked (all phones have at least 10 attempts)
* Make sure "Airplane Mode" and "Wi-Fi" is turned off under wireless connections if your LG is an Android device.
It also has other methods for trying. Perhaps another method will work:
Method #1 Insert a non accepted simcard, and enter code when prompted for a code
OR
Method #2 Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#”
for example if its a p999 you enter “2945#*999#” or if its a p990 you enter “2945#*990#” etc…
OR

OR
Method #4 Go to the dial screen and press *#865625# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
Quick question.... I just got my unlock code from Tmo. I was wondering if the unlock is retained no matter how much somebody may root/unroot/change ROMs/etc. Is it a "forever" thing? Or just for the current setup? Oh and do I unlock with Tmo SIM in or with the ATT one?
*Edit* oops replied to the op, disregard this post.

Changing form won't unlock and is your phone paid off?and is it blacklisted?
Hi there, you can go to Onlineunlocks.com $40 or IMEIGURUS.com $30,
I unlock 7 Sprint Galaxy S8+ from onlineunlocks and 2 T-mobile S8+ and S7 Edge from imeigurus. Everything done remotely with USB cable between there hours of service, they open today after 11:00 am EST or New York Times on sundays, they also unlock Note 8 too same price. I have both t-mobile S8 and Note 8 unlock running on Verizon network using the U1 Firmware, everything works excellent.
Device must be paid off
Option 1: T-Force
1. go to facebook.com and send them a message
- Request to speak to T-Force and someone from that team will immediately take over the message
- Please note there is a delay between responses (I'm guessing they're talking to multiple folks) of about 3 minutes so be patient
2. Tell them you bought your device your T-mobile branded device directly from samsung and you need your IMEI added to their Database in order to use the Unlock App
3. They will ask for the following
- email address
- phone number (you'll get a link to verify your account)
- IMEI #
- proof of purchase (send them a picture via the facebook messenger app)
4. They are aware of the situation and will escalate it to the correct team
5. Wait 72 hours (I actually only needed 48 hours)
6. Go to the Unlock App on your Samsung S8(+) and click the permanent unlock button (see attached picture below)
- if successful it will tell you and you'll need to restart your phone (I had to do like 3 restarts)
- just keep spamming the button once or twice a day (be patient...it'll work out)
- the Unlock App will disappear from your app drawer (it's actually just in the "disabled" state so it doesn't show in app drawer)
- Put in another SIM card to verify (I put in a AT&T SIM to validate)
7. Be happy because this was super easy
Note: do not need to wait 40 days (this is not true ... I had my phone for only 1 day)
Option 2
You need to call T-MOBILE and get your request escalated to a Sr. Technical support rep. From there, they need to have your device entered into the device distribution inventory system. Once that is done, you will be able to use the Device Unlock app on your phone.

This is the right answer, if OP is the original purchaser of the device from Samsung.com. Don't pay for 3rd party unlocks when a little work on Twitter will get it done free. This was my experience going through the process: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72483309&postcount=10
