Vodafone splash screen lives on! - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

I have a spare Diamond lying around - use it for testing and runs various ROMs of the week with HardSPL 1.93 etc (as opposed to the Diamond I use as my day-to-day device running HTC 1.93.x.2 standard ROM); so I thought I'd give the latest standard ROM to come out (1.97.x.4) by was of the Vodafone branded ROM.
[Random comment: how UGLY is all the branding that VF put on the TF3D?!?! Subjective maybe - some people like me like the stock HTC look, others like to skin etc - but does ANYONE like the VF skin?!?]
Looks promising - certainly seems fast 'out-of-the-box' - I look forward to a HTC release of the same series.
Anyways, I quickly got bored of this and thought I'd give Duttys 3.3 latest effort a try (which seemingly plucks the good bits from the 1.94.x.4 release). Flashed as normal and everything working.. yet I STILL have the Vodafone branded boot-up splash screen???? Anyone seen this before? I guess I could change this in AdvancedConfig 3.3 (or similar), and not something I'm going to loose any sleep over, I'm just confused as to how this can be? I thought flashing in this manor blew everything away, no?
Comments? Cheers!

you need to flash oficial htc rom from htc website , vodafone splash will gone

Poll: Which WM6 do you prefer?

Alright, I've completly had it with the t-mobile rom on my tytn. Befor this phone I used to have a wizard which I flashed almost the same day that I bought it, but after a while it broke down on me and I didn't get a new one (warenty issues)
Thats the main reason why I havn't flashed my tytn, but the t-mobile software is such a pain in the ass and WM6 is so much better then 5 that I'm just going to do it, screw the warrenty.
The question now is which version of WM6 shouls I flash. Is there a single version that definitivly leaves the rest behind?
Did my Vario2 with Black 2.5 yesterday. TBH, I don't know what the fuss is about. It's not noticably faster, and it was a big pain in the butt reinstalling everything. It also introduced a bunch of new bugs I didn't have before. On the other hand, being able to read HTML email has really changed my life. I'm sure for some people the changes are worthwhile, but for me it was not.
I extracted the TMob UK rom before flashing, so PM me if you need it in future.
I think this is a very important poll at this point.
There're so many WM6's version, and I am still using blackV1.X
Hesitating all days and looking about all the different versions, couldn't make a choice.

I agree with you completely here. The standard T-Mobile rom is sh*te to say the least. Many instability probs. The wizard was a much more stable device IMHO.
I flashed Custel WM6 Pro V1.2 a couple of days ago and it has given my phone a new lease of life. Highly recommend it apart from warranty issues. This seems to be the most recent rom revision out of the the cooked rooms available. The support from Custel is excellent and it is still being developed, 1.3 will be out soon.
Hope this helps.
Jeez - Another Poll !!!

Can you tell me what your instability probs were? I can't remember when I last had a lock up with mine, but I can't say the same for my new ROM.
LVSW Rom definitively
stable and fast!!

Phone freezes every 20 minutes. Faulty device?

Hey Everyone
Ive been quite awhile on this board but I am usually more the quiet guy who observes and enjoys this great board. About a year ago I started to become interested in WM and Rom development and have since flashed several roms on several devices.
Yesterday I got my Swiss HTC Diamond and I have to say there are a few things that are bugging me. The phone crashes about every 20 minutes. So I thought I'd install the signed SPL and then the Elite 2 rom. However this didn't solve my problem and I installed the developers SPL and bepes 0.51 Rom. The phone crashed regurarly and I can't use it as a working phone/communicator/organizer. As a last try I installed an hour ago the TRL Diamond 2 rom.
Don't get me wrong. All the roms are working quickly and I would love the device. It's just that the phone freezes badly quite often and I have to softreset.
So my question is: Am I the only one experiencing this? Are there registry hacks to make the device more reliable?
Greetings from Switzerland and keep up the good work
geele
Edit: I'm not sure if this is in the right forum as mentioned by Spawn12. If so Admins, feel free to move into the other folder.
Looks like it might be a faulty device so needs to be sent back but because you have flashed the rom...it may be that your warranty is void now. But im not 110% sure though so dont quote me on that.
By the way this part of the forum is for ROM DEVELOPMENT....you might want to try posting next time in the Diamond forum.
For warranty reasons (I thought the device was broken) I reflashed the original SPL and the 1.37 rom.
So far (40 minutes) the phone was very stable. This led me to believe that somehow my device doesn't work fine together with cooked and tweaked roms that are out just now. I think I will wait a few weeks before I reflash some of the great roms that are being developed right now.

edit: just a few seconds after I posted, the touch flow 3d restarted itself randomly... Whats wrong with my device?

Like i said mate, it seems like your phone might be faulty...why not just return it and get a new working one. If it was me thats what i would be doing straight away...wouldnt put up with a faulty device to be honest.
Mate b4 u take ur fone back to ur dealer...I remember reading it sumwhere that HTC did rush the release of Diamond but moslty al of thier fones are working fine. I got mine in Sydney from ebay and it turned out to be from Russia...
If i install any other roms either then the Rusian rom...the fone crashes as u mentioned urs does..there is sumthing as a region lock or sumthing...thats why i can only run the Russian rom without any problems..(M tryn to cook my own rom) My advice would be get back to ur stock rom and see how things go from there..there might be afew resets but it'l work fine after that..
If that doesnt work then u have a faulty fone...This saves u time and money i guess...
hope this helps
Cheers from OZ
Hey Lordaris and Spawn12
I returned my Diamond and got a new one. As mentioned in the posts above I did reflash the wwe original 1.37 rom but it didn't help. Now everything works fine (no crashes) but the phone without a cooked rom from this forum is just slower :-( Does anyone besides Lordaris have the problem with the roms? I am concerned now to flash new roms if this is a common problem?
geele - happy with a new diamond
I am really dissapointed! Mine also start restarting after missed call!
I cant understand how HTC put this device in sales - and it IS NOT SOME INEXPENSIVE toy - it is one of the most expensive phones!!!
I hope HTC will issue a solution for all their pissed-off users, otherwise - it is very bad for the company image!
... and i hope thay will also fix the issue with the alarm (which can not bew stoped without restarting the phone!).

People on Orange - ROM upgrade ?

Having had my Diamond for 2 weeks now, its made my life a living hell. Slow, freezes, very fiddly and so many calls go missed because of the g** screen system.
Will there be an upgrade for Orange customers as the htc site doesnt let me do it ?
Im seriously considering giving it back, currently the iphone puts it to shame imo and thats barebones really !
if your are french use DiamondStone 1.1 :
http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&cat=169&id=15903
Or Wait some days until I release the DiamondStone v2 (post will be also on HTC Planete)
I had an Orange diamond and I had the exact same problems you describe. Thankfully now they are all history. I flashed a different ROM onto the handset. I would recommend you do the same. BE WARNED THOUGH. This will probably cancel out any warranty on the handset. All problems have now gone and I have the handset the Diamond always promised to be........

See this thread and my reply on Post #16. I did it last night, TouchFlo and browsing is a LOT better.
I and several others have contacted Orange directly. They keep saying that Orange DO NOT supply updates as "they did not write the software". (Orange traditionally have a very bad record of NOT supporting their handsets with newer vendor updates)
Of course, to make matters worse, HTC will not provide an Orange specific ROM either so if you want the enhancements offered, you WILL need to update the ROM yourself. I've not tried the other custom ROMs offered here - I'm sure they offer a lot of other advantages, but I just wanted to get the "Offical ROM" update working
http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419093&page=2
There is a LOT of info on this site but sometimes with all of the other posts, it can be a bit confusing to understand. Basically in order to update I found that:
1) You MUST first update the phone with the right HardSPL (as per all the Guides on here). This WILL invalidate your warranty, unless you are able re-update your phone back to the original SPL (and ROM if you got that far) - should you need to send the thing in for warranty repair...
2) Certain ROM updates, including "Offical HTC" ones require that you use a certain SPL. To update my Orange UK with the HTC Rom, I used HardSPL 1.93.. and I loaded it using the DiamondCustomRUU that comes packaged with HardSPL 1.37 (again this is available by looking at the correct threads here)
3) To even get this HardSPL working it DID hard reset my phone, Internal Storage was left intact but the "on phone" data/applications/contacts etc were completely wiped - so make sure you back up all contacts, and write down settings (again, read the guides on what to backup)
4) Once HardSPL 1.93 was on the phone you can now load the new "Official ROM" (check the SPL version by soft resetting and holding the DOWN VOLUME key until you get the Tri-colour screen showing which version it is - you can then soft reset to get the phone back)
5) IF you update to HardSPL, you do NOT need to CID-Unlock you phone - if you're unsure what this means, again read the guides for more detailed explanations
6) You can use the RUU that comes with the Official HTC Rom package to then update your phone.. again follow ALL instructions from the Guides
7) Do NOT get impatient at any time and uplug cables, close apps etc. you could risk bricking your phone.. just follow instructions
THIS DOES WORK - at least it did for me... my diamond is even faster than ever now
I have the information that since a few days Orange France ships Diamond with 1.93 ROM and 1.00.25.05 Radio.
I'm in touch with someone who have this new ROM and I'm helping him dumping it
I think I might have the dump within a few hours (I'll tell you ) and will test it on my own Orange Diamond
If Orange (France or UK) do release an updated "Offical ROM", then that would be cool.. but Orange UK were certain they WOULD NOT be doing this..
To be honest, the HTC "Official ROM" works just fine and it doesn't come with all the Orange branded rubbish either The only issue is that you must invalidate your warranty to enjoy the benefits..
jms_uk,
i dont get it your on a developers website but you want to keep your phone
on a stock rom.
why.
the cooked roms are so much better and as you say you have allready invalidated your warranty.
I have a once Orange Diamond, now its official HTC 1.93 with unlocked Sim.
I would love to try out a cooked ROM as you suggest, but there are just so many ones on this site its completely confusing, I would like to ask which one is best, but dare not due to either having my post deleted, moved or flamed.

I'll admit that I'm quite happy with the improvements the official updated ROM gives, but as THUDUK has said, I wouldn't know where to start on picking a custom ROM that offers further improvements - so much choice
I've already spent a while trying to seach and get more information on what the various ROMS do, but as a lot of people have said there is no "best" ROM because it depends on what you're looking for..
At the moment I like TF3D as an interface, and the speed of it with the official/stock update is improved.. what other cool things could I benefit from with a custom ROM? Any and all suggestions gratefully welcomed!
*EDIT*
I stopped being a total n00b and found some proper details on both Dutty's and Panosha's Shine-On... some really nice tweaks in there, I can see why a lot of people prefer these custom ROMs. As I'm new to the whole game, and my phone is already improved with just the new Stock ROM - I'll play it safe for now, but I'm a bit clearer about things! Now if only someone could fix that damned HTC music player
Hey,
First post here but i have been hanging around for some time and been flashing new rom's on my htc touch diamond since the second week of having it. I was kind of lucky getting my diamond from orange (actually through carphone warehouse) but it was completely unbranded short of a small orange logo sticker on the case. I assume this is because it was one of the very first editions, i had the same issues untill i flashed with a cooked rom from these forums and the speed improvments were outstanding in comparison to what i had. I would highly recommend upgrading the rom yourself, as it looks unlikely we'll ever see a decent from rom orange. but make sure you do follow the instructions carefully. on top of that from my understanding (and ill fully admit if i am wrong) but because flashing the rom's are completely software based, if you had to return the phone, then i understand it is possible to remove everything you have done to it and restore it to its original state, i think i have seen the original orange uk rom on the forums somewhere. as i said im sorry if that is incorrect but if u can remove everything then returning the phone wont be an issue. as for what rom? no idea, i have tested all the wwe roms and have found the one i like, dutty's 1.6 lite i think it is.
anyway sorry for the babble, tend to wonder in my head lol. hope its of use.
Fraser
I think Orange UK messed up and a LOT of their Touch Diamonds have very little specific customisation except for the Orange branded back cover and the locked CID.. yet all the packaging and manuals show screenshots with Orange customisations in them
No bad thing if you don't want your phone to have all that bloat...
There are some nice things in the different roms, G-Sensor calibration and all that but for me, even with the newer Stock Official HTC ROM, its certainly better than it was out of the box..
Its a shame Orange don't do something about that, the customer reputation would be vastly improved and the improved performance on the handset with a better ROM might even win a few new customers who have been put off with negative press about the phone's UI performance..
You only have to read an a review in an "ignorant" magazine like T3 (read by a LOT of people unfortunately) to see the misconception... I'm sure the Diamond would've rated better had their staff been given a phone with newer/better ROMs on it

Hey too right, the only one single yet hugely annoying problem with my Diamond is the blasted music player skipping, gets better if you turn off your phone, but why should we have to do that
alphazeros rom fixes the media player problem so they say.
standard rom with speed increases.
havn't tried it my self as i use swiftbl's rom but it looks ok.
LoL, I was talking about the cover art main view. Its annoying that it only shows songs from your now playing instead of allowing you to actually select whole albums by cover art from this view

flashing the NAM Diamond (unbranded with US 3g bands)

I am new to this on the diamond, so I have a pretty basic question. I have a NAM version diamond. When HTC came out with their new ROM last month or so, I contacted them and they said it was not designed for my phone and to wait and see if one is put out for the NAM version (has US 3g bands and no front cam). Will I run into any problems with installing cooked ROMs, etc that are available. I read the sticky on what to do first, and understand to do all the HardSPL, etc. Not exactly sure about the radio and actual ROMs that I would be able to use. Just want to make sure its compatible so that I have the least chance of bricking my phone. My last time customizing phones was with the razr v3i, and there were certain roms that could/could not be applied to the phone depending on if it the type of v3i. I know that I have the following specs:
ROM: 1.93.422.4 WWE
ROM Date: 08/13/08
Radio: 1.0025.08
Protocol version: 52.33a.25.17H
Wanted to get some input from others with the Diam 110 with US 3G version of the phone as see what they recommend, as well as others who can help out. Also, when I was modding the v3i, there were programs that could back up your current rom so that it was possible to flash it back if any problems occured. Is there anyway to do this with the diamond? If not, where can I find the stock HTC rom for the US 3G Diamond (haven't been able to find it here on xda). Thanks again for helping out a new guy.
any advice?
It's sad, but HTC has been unfair to us. First they remove the front camera from our phone and then they decided to just ignore the US 3G GSM diamond. They haven't even bothered to release even a single update for us. Very unprofessional behavior by HTC. I am seriously considering ASUS for my next phone.
But XDA is our heaven! once you have the hardspl, you are good to go. Use any GSM ROM on this forum and you should be OK. Don't forget to follow all the instructions mentioned in the sticky for flashing ROMS.
I didn't care to backup my original ROM as I had HTC elf before and was well aware of the ROMS available on XDA. However, I do recall getting a ROM installation CD in phone package. Check your package... you might have it too.
But, frankly, once you use custom ROM from here, you will not go back to HTC's ROM.
I'll echo what Ark said here, it sucks that they leave us (all 5 of us ) out in the cold with the unlocked NAM phones, but HardSPL will solve all of your problems.
I followed the instructions on flashing HardSPL and used the latest WWE ROM from HTC and it worked like a champ. It was actually the best thing I ever did with the Diamond, as the 2.03 ROMs are 100x faster and better than the stock ROM. I highly suggest taking the time and steps to flash it.
The only things that were different when I flashed the WWE HTC ROM was that Microsoft Voice Command was replaced by the Cybotron Voice Dialing application. Also, the region is set to the UK, which is easily changed. Also, if you're using AT&T here in the US, you have to install Advanced Config or make a change to the registry to enable HUSPA in Advanced Network.
Hope this helps.
I have HardSPL on my NAM Diamond, and have flashed literally dozens of cooked and stock ROMs with no issues whatsoever. Such a great phone with the cooked ROMs! I'm pretty sure I have seen threads about getting your phone back to its original state if you wish to. I would recommend searching around a bit and you should find some info.
Enjoy your flashing!
and.. what about the radio? is posible to update too? or you recomend to stay in the original radio version that came with the DIAM 110?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Everything works just as it would on the euro units.
I've messed around with different build of official htc roms on my NAM, and i went back to the factory 193 build (same as OP). The newer builds have damn near all of the animation taken out. It fixed some things, and messed up other things. WHY they would add slide to answer is beyond me.
Also, i've tried a million radios. Here in chicago, doesnt matter what radio i use. i get horrible reception with this thing. In my house, every phone i have, gets full 3G reception. With the diamond? it bounces between 2/3/4 bars.
Going somewhere with shakey reception? the Diamond gets even worse.
So, i stuck with the factory radio as well, because it gave the best battery life.
So, for me, flashing was pointless. I left it harspl'd though for when 6.5 comes out though.
Thanks everyone. Glad to see atleast a few others have the US version of the diamond. I guess the only think I have to do now is decide which rom to pick.
@aphexacid: my phone gets great reception so far. I've tried it out in Houston and New York for extended periods of time. Had a few more dropped calls in NYC, but I think that's a network thing more than the phone. Also, is there a way that you backed up your stock rom to flash it back, or is it available somewhere? I know it's not at HTC's website when I looked. Just want to have it in case I decide to go back to basics like you did.
I also have NAM 3G diamond (Rogers branded) w/ front cam
Should I try this rom?
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_2.03.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.0 9.25.23_Ship
Just wanted to thank everyone for chiming in. Changed the rom last night, and thankfully everything went fine. If anyone has one they especially like, I'd like to hear about it. Still searching for the rom that would be ideal.
I've tried many ROMs here but always go back to Shaks.
Best performance and stability out there period.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462455
Yeah I put on Macadam and it's pretty good. I was looking at Shak's as well. Maybe when I get bored i'll switch to see which I like better. It's a pain to get everything setup again so that phone is how you like it, but I guess that's the price for having such customized roms.

[Q] Rooting by downgrading from HBOOT 0.92 and advice on custom ROM

Hello
I'm a new member here, altho I've been following a few threads for the latest weeks. Now curiosity has killed the cat....
I'm planing on using the recently uncovered method of downgrading from HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 (or is it .82?) and apply unrevoked3 to gain root on My Desire as explained in the HOWTO. Phone's unbranded and unlocked, so I don't expect any problems to occur there other than to wipe my phone clean. I've been reading enough to feel reasonably confident in these steps.
But then there is the question of what ROM to put on My Desire when I'm done. I'm totally blank here. I've been looking at the descriptions and threads of a few ROMs in the dev-forum, but I can't say it makes me much smarter, except for a couple of ROMs that definitely isn't for me.
I've been quite happy about the HTC Sense that the phone was shipped with since I bought it back in April. Not much different about the new one that came with the Froyo OTA I updated to last weekend. What annoys me the most is the glitch in the Market that was introduced, and that there seems to be doubles of apps in the ROM, like both android and HTC versions of Facebook and others. Waste of space and waste of resources to have both fire up at boot. Same with a few stock installed apps that start at boot that I never use. Useless
Also I'd like to have that annoying boot sound gone, or maybe replaced by some custom stuff.
I also need the Froyo. The Wi-Fi hotspot and increased performance are must-have. App2sd too, but it looks like most ROMs have some implementation of this that at least matches the functionality of the one included in Froyo.
It's not that I am locked up to be a Sense-user, I just haven't tried anything else and don't know better. Love those 7 screens, altho I use only 6 of them. Also I've grown accustomed to a few of the HTC widgets. Eats a lot of screen real-estate, but looks good imo. Haven't looked up many screenshots of optional screens, so I have really no clue what the options are.
Is it obvious that I should apply a modified/rooted HTC-Sense Froyo ROM, or are there others that would match my needs better? I'm an old Linux user, so I'm not afraid to test new UIs. I'd love to hear from you experienced users what you have to recommend an Android-noob.
I suggest using this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Its the official HTC rooted without hboot 0.92, if you don't like any great modifications, I suggest using this mod.
If you want an other mod, take a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Desire#Unofficial_ROMs
Thanks or the reply. That first one is what I had in mind, but it feels "wrong" to stick with stock when I've finally bothered to crack open the phone
Maybe I should look into just how much work it is to swap ROMs and test out a couple for a few days each? Or is there someone who have written up a nice little review listing some of the most important differences between the modified ROMs?
I decided to go for a LeeDroid ROM. Been playing with it for a few hours, and it seems to do the job well
One happy rooted HTC customer
Try Neophyte 1.6 - much better mate Totally stable and has no issues that other custom roms do
Neophyte looks like a good alternative. Thank you
Also looks from the thread on that one that there is a new version coming one of the first days, so I'll stick with LeeDroid untill then. Looks to be a breeze to swap ROMs as long as you don't bother to install every unusefull app for each swap. And a nice way to clean out the phone of various useless stuff LOL
