Hey folks,
I've searched the forum and Googled this issue, and I haven't seen it in quite this way, so I'm going to just ask it. And maybe this is is just a misunderstanding of how Caller ID works on the Excalibur, so please correct me if I am wrong:
My Caller ID works fine for those numbers that are in my Contact List, or course. By this, I mean I see both name and phone number. But for unknown numbers, I see just the number and no name. Which is annoying, to say the least.
I have noticed this more since I had to restore my Contacts a couple weeks ago, although I don't think that has anything to do with it. I see no Phone setting that affects this.
Okay, so the question is, is this the natural state of affairs for Caller ID in wm6.1? If the number is not in your contacts, you don't get full Caller ID? Or am I missing a setting or a registry entry or something?

How does the phone know more than the number of the caller if not in contacts???
I was thinking of the way my landline phone (yes, I still have one of those, but I may be canning it soon) gets its Caller ID information. Verizon just sends it down the line to the phone. I thought T-Mobile did the same thing, the service just sends the necessary info down the line to the phone, but I thought that was a given (Caller ID) with wireless phone service. Maybe I'm mistaken, which maybe someone could clarify for me?
Now to me, what I'm getting seems like "partial" Caller ID, the number without the name? Or maybe I'm just totally confused on it all, been a rough week...
I have yet to see Caller ID show a name on a cell phone if it's not in your contacts. Verizon included.
I didn't mean Verizon's wireless service, I meant their landline service.
Never mind, went over to T-Mobile, that's the way it's sent down, number only. Thanks.

In the phone setting - Services - Caller Id is an option to send id "Only to Contacts" instead of everyone or no one. It isn't working with the official AT&T WM6. Actually I'm not sure it ever worked. Anyone have an luck getting it to work? It would be great.

i cannot get it working too..

That is for outgoing caller id (ie, only reveal your caller id to people in your contact list). Is that what you tested to determine it wasn't working?

This is not similar to picture caller ID or any 3rd party apps. This service is provided by your Network Operator. If you're subscribed to it then you will have the capability to reveal or not to reveal your ID to your receivers by sending the command to your Network Operator.
yes.. its not caller id picture. its to enable the reveal of our phone number to the caller or not. i am using it but everytime i call the function is not working.

Are you subscribed to the CLIR service?
AFAIK, Celcom only gives you 2 options when subcribed to it. 'To show' or 'Not to show'. There's no selective show.
Yes, I actually understand how it is supposed to work and have tested it by calling both contacts and numbers not in my contacts.
Send my Caller Id to everyone or no one works. The option to send to contacts only shows as an option when downloaded from the network and worked on an older phone. I am not sure it ever worked on the 8525 but it isn't working now even though tech support at HTC and At&t says it should. They blame it on unofficial upgrades to software.
I'll test it again on the next build from At&t which I hear is in the kitchen now.
Hi all,
I posted somethinig similar to this a while ago. I am using my Diamond to call VoIP numbers, i.e. call a landline then wait for a few seconds and enter the destination number followed by hash #. The landline number is the same for all destinations and only the second part differs, which is the destination number. The numbers look like:
0123456789, 00447890123456#
Now, if I store two or more such contacts in the address book, e.g.
Bar: 0123456789, 00441234567890#
Foo: 0123456789, 00447890123456#
Joe: 0123456789, 00445678901234#
the, regardless which one I call, say Foo, in the call log it will always list "Bar" as having been called. The same happens if I replace the comma with a "p". The number however is stored correctly, i.e. if I redial it, it will call the number for Foo which is what was dialed in the first place.
It appears as being a bug in WM6.1. I haven't tried WM6.5 (anyone?).
How in the world can I fix this?
Cheers for any help
foo? bar? linux-user? i google your text for translaiting but nothing understanding.
do you mean that the order is not correct?

I understood perfectly. Perhaps it is a english as a second language barrier. I will try to restate the issue. (I wish I knew the answer.)
When you have a extra long number stored to a contact (as you might when you dial a AT&T toll free number with some pauses, then a passcode, then a number.) And you have more than one contact stored with this long number... they all have the same first 10 or so numbers. So regardless of which one was called last, when you look up the call history log, it displays the first one.
It would appear the call history only looks at the first 10 or so digits to find a match.

if this is the case, you can use advanced config or diamond tweak (forgot which one had the option) and from there you can set how many numbers it should check
@misfitflt: Thanks for rephrasing the problem .. I was just about to post. Cheers!

I forgot to mention I already played with the number of trailing digits in AdvConfig (that's what apparently the option is called) ... I tried values from the default 6 to 20 and nothing changed. The buggy behaviour persists.
I recently tried a new dialer with address book application that replaces the TF3D dialer; it is called Inesoft Phone v4.5 (it's actually pretty cool). This one does differentiate between numbers with pauses or commas correctly!
I'll try switching off the dialer completely and use the built-in WM6.1 dialer to see if that works fine. If so then the bug is in TouchFlo (?).
Anyone knows of other good dialer software that I could try?
Cheers,
p.s. I'm surprised this hasn't surfaced until now though ... anyone out there with the same issue? Or maybe I need to give the thread a more appropriate title.
i have the same issue but learnt to live with it as i didnt want to shift to another dialer.
tried playing with the number in adv config but of no avail
lemme know if you find anything
Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a fix for SGS i9000 for Rogers/Fido name display. I get the name correctly on my phone while the number is ringing, however, when I answer or don't pickup the call, I just get the number.
Thank you
i don't follow...
when i miss i call i get the normal SMS from 8888 telling me that i missed a call from such and such from the phone number that phoned me
and in the phone call log, i see the little red arrow that i missed a call with the name and phone number of the contact
if it was not a contact then it just shows the phone number (which is normal of all previous cell phones i've used)
so... what exactly is not working for you?
I don't have that feature that would send me an SMS with the name and number. I just have a "Name Display and Caller number" feature. On FIDO supported phones any person that calls, even if that person is not in the contact list, his/her name would display. On my phone, SGS i9000M, Name Display works only while the phone is ringing....

that is correct
this is how it works normally on any cell phone that i've had with Fido
only displays the name when it's ringing
it doesn't save the name, it never did for any of my previous cell phones
that's only for people that are not on your contact list
And I guess the question was if there is a way to have the name not only the number in the call log after the call is completed. Is there a fix for this? Thx
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
well there is nothing to FIX because it's not broken
the "Advanced Caller ID" the one that shows you the callers name even though it is not in your contact list, is a network feature
not a phone feature
the build in phone feature will match the caller ID from the network provided number to your contact list then show you the caller name, if it's not in your contact list you will just get the number
that is standard on all phones with caller ID
the trick that the network uses, is that they tag the name of the person calling you along the caller ID number
older phones wouldn't even display the name
newer phones will show the name, but not be able to do anything with it, it just displays it that's all
the build in software on most phones are only designed to save the caller ID number, no extra stuff tagging along.
translation you will need a Developer to come up with a new software to be able to save both the caller ID + the extra strings attached
Just to confirm my old nokia n97 did save the name in missed calls.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I see what you mean, on some phones when someone calls you and you do not have the persons contact saved the following happens:
1. Name is displayed along with the number while ringing.
2. When you look up the phone log the name is in there and when you save the contact it already has the name typed in for you.
On the Galaxy S number 2 does not happen. I dont know how to change it to make it work however, I am interested.
A new software will be required to do that, none of my previous phone had that feature
time to hire an android developer to make and app to do that
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
I have the same features with Fido and i found it to be annoying that it wouldnt show the callers name(not on my contacts) in missed calls. If its important they can call again lol.
Off-Topic:
I am about to purchase the Captivate from Rogers(finally its out...) but im with Fido, what im wondering is it possible to unlock the phone with the unlock/unfreeze guide located in the dev section. I just dont want to create a new thread for one question
PS. It didnt allow me to post the link to the guide because i just joined, sorry for the trouble lol.
I would appreciate if someone can post a fix for this issue. I'll throw in some money for a fix
Me too!

if you guys really want this feature implemented you'll have to put up a bounty to hire a developer to make an app for that

Is anyone having issues with their S III not displaying caller id on T-mobile?
After the bloatware subscription T Mobile Caller Id ran out it seems like most calls I receive now show no caller id info. I wonder if this a problem tied to that app, or something different.
Caller ID as in someone that's not on your contacts? Cause, that's a service you have to subscribe to I think. Otherwise...all my Gmail contacts show up when they call.
Called ID should be working fine but I believe you only get 7 days for free, I got rid of it cause I feel the app is just wasting my battery
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Even if it is someone in my contacts, it still says unknown.

My caller id worked 2 times tops during my 7 day trial. One came with the name and the other unknown. Do I want to subscribe? That's a no brainer.
Sent from my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 16gb Pebble Blue running Stock ROM
I'm running a rooted (mostly stock) rom and the tmobile subscription caller id is not there as an option on my phone. Therefore, I have never set it up. I have, however, noticed half a dozen people or so that are in my contacts that still show up as unknown when they call. If I call them once from my phone, it appears that my phone recognizes them the next time they call. What a pain. I've heard of several people having the same or similar issues. Hope they patch this stupid bug.
NO CID on T-Mobile
Caller ID stopped for me yesterday. I am not talking about the bloatware CID w/subscription. My work cell that is most definitely in my address book, is showing as "Unknown." Strange thing about this is that while on WiFi calling, if I call my work cell 1st, it will show the contact info. Calling 1st on the cellular network does not work. I am on hold with a CSR that is really trying but no success yet. She had me pull the battery and SIM. WTF?!?!?!
I've been using Current Caller ID and it is OK, the caller id is generally delayed so I don't know who it is until I hang up. I'm looking at Mr. Number and True Caller ID, but open to check out others if you have ones you like. Looking to know who is calling even if not currently on my phone.

I'm using my phone for both personal and business use so I'd like to know if it is a business person I want to talk to or a telemarketer who I don't. I don't have a home phone so I'm getting a decent amount of solicitation via my cell phone.
Thank you,
Z
I use Mr. Number and don't mind it. I think it is really dependant on what you want it and need it for. Mr. Number always tells me when I have a spam or telemarketer calling me. I usually answer it, then wonder why I didn't listen to the software.

Caller Id will tell you the number that is calling but unless it is one of your contacts, that is the only information you can get from it.
There are advanced caller Id's that can tell you if it is a telemarketer or other. From work I'll get a lot of calls from unknown numbers, I'd like to know if it is important and needs to be picked up (business call) or if it is a telemarketer.

Right now I'm looking for a replacement for Current Caller ID. It reduces battery life by waking up your phone when you are not using it and transmitting lots of data.
I just traced my battery drain to Current Caller ID. No response from their tech support.
