USB Sync - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi - I updated to the official HTC rom a while ago and can't sync via usb any more. I've tried on vista (64 and 32 bit) using wmdc6 and 6.1 and xp using active sync 4.5. On a new install it see device tries to active sync and dissapears almost instantly then never connects again. no matter how many times i reboot, hard reset, etc... i can not get the computers to see the diamond or active sync it, nothing. I want to try another rom but can't because the usb won't do anything. I can sync and see the device via blutetooth without an issue, it seems just the usb. Any ideas how to fix this or u;pdate the rom with usb? thanks in advance...

Try putting it into bootloader mode.
Then connect via usb, and try a flash

S621 Sync issues

Sim/App unlocked S621 can't sync or even connect via USB, which leads me to believe the port might be fried (it still charges), or the installed unlock bugged it?
Used P4 XPSP3/Vista 32bit + Dual Vista 32bit on multiple USB ports and device is not recognized on Active Sync 4.2/4.5 + WMDC 6.1 after re-installs and re-boots?
ROM ver 1.19.631.3 - HTC S621
Tried bootloader screen and multiple provider base ROM's with always a "Error [260]: Connection" response. Completed file wipes and 5+ hard boots.
Using a "SpeakOut" (7-11) SIM and have loaded other apps on the device via WiFi/IE but need to be able to access FAT32 for business files and would like to 6.1!
Have searched the previous posts extensively.
Please advise and thanks.

1) 3 x Cable/USB Port operational with Canon Camera and 2GB generic 1.8" player, file transfer and power. S621 is charging on all three but no access.
2) http://s591.photobucket.com/albums/ss351/40two40888/
Documents cleaning of what was dirty port.
3) Tried 3x hard reset and watched USB ports in EVEREST Ultimate which logged the Camera, the 1.8" and the USB mouse, but no init or i/o for the S621?
Still no sync or device access. Any more suggestions?
FYI - I took apart the S621 to clean and after restart it took 1+ hours for the display to return to normal with no discoloration or streaking. Thought I would have to install a new LCD.
Please advise and thanks.
On a hunch try a different Computer preferably XP with active sync to diagnose if it's an OS problem a USB problem?
Could be just that your computer is not recognizing it, to which then could be corrupted driver.
Start by trying different comp.

Sorry for the delay in response. Used XP machine at a local computer store and returned the same result.
1) Used two different USB cables that would not recognize the S621 but would mount the 2GB generic 1.8" player.
2) XP Device manger returned no activity on the port but the battery charge initiated.
Any other suggestions? Half-brick?
Brief Sync
The S621 briefly synced yesterday.
The battery was down to <20% and when it was re-charged to 100% it was recognized by XP, drivers were installed and it synced with Active Sync 4.2.
Was able to read the directory but it then started to unmount and then mount several times and now the device won't sync or mount again after reboots etc.?
Any suggestions?
Still no sync
Still no sync with XP SP3(re-installed) & Vista.
Any new suggestions? Still charging via USB and adapter.
Thnx

HELP! ROM flashing related issue? On Activesync: USB Device not recognized???!!!

Hi, I have reflashed my ROM I dont know how many times. Yesterday I tried to connect via activesync on a new ROM and it wouldnt connect. These are some of the things that happened:
Device orange charging light flashes a few times then goes off [never seen THAT before]
Activesyc menu comes up on device but activesync doesnt connect
Get 'this device can perform faster' message on desktop
Sometimes get USB devce not recognized on desktop
SOmetimes device orange charging light it stays on if I plug direct into PC but still doesnt activesync
I have tried to connect as DISK DRIVE but I dont see the device on my PC.
Have tried different ROMS, 6.5, 6.51, sense 2.1 and 2.5 but all have same issue. Have also tried connecting to other computers. same issue.
Have played around with USB to PC menu options (enable / diable faster data sync etc) but doesnt make a difference.
Anyone had this problems? Thoughts?
Have you tried diselecting "ask me 1st about usb connection type when I connect the device to the pc" under USB to PC settings
It worked for me
This is the exact problem I am facing!
I tried everything - as diskdrive, activesync (with/without speedup), etc.
On many ROMs, even the original one (WM6.1)
Can't connect - every PC gives an 'unknown device' and on some ROMs I cannot charge via USB, only via mains...
I also tried without the question on connection.
Just some thoughts:
Do you have corruptions on screen sometimes? (Some graphical glitches)
Any .CAB files you cannot install?
Did you try to reflash the same ROM more than once?
tried to connect without card in the device and in flight mode? (Uses less power)
With me it started after a ROM flash from Miri... (I don't blame him!!)
The Hard SPL did not give me any problem, the radio was not flashed, just the OS. But reverting did not help.
I certainly hope you will find a solution, since I have the exact same problem!!
Do you stil know what ROM you flashed when this problem occured?
I reverted to original ROM 6.1 AND 6.5 which included everything - boot, radio, os, stardup image. But it did not change!
I figured it out after trying everything i could: i think its a hardware problem. I have dropped my devicetoo many times, or plugged it in too many times. Who knows.

And how did you figured it out? Did you return the device to the shop?
I have this exact same issue except I am on AthineOS... I thought it was my PC until I read these posts. No OS updates or any other machine updates were performed except on my device. Any clues as to a fix?
Somehow I don't think this is just hardware.
I did drop my device once, but that was even before first flash. After that it still worked.
So, some weeks later I HSPLed without any problem. After that the device still worked.
Then, after investigating which ROM to use I flashed the ROM a few days later.
Right after the first flash it all still worked. So, had to flash another and from that moment on the device cannot be reckognised by any PC.
I still think it has something to do with the flashing. I think the device does not give correct feedback when it receives some commands from PC (eg. the command to reply the device type/number)
Does anyone know a program which can check the USB port for the HTC Touch Pro 2? Just to test wheather the connector pins are ok?
download activesync 4.5 and run the setup. it will perform a repair. that usually solves the problem. if not, try a different usb cable and try plugging into different ports on your pc.

These are the first things done. And this was already written in here.
It happens with many PCs, including some on which the device never connected to.
Also tried different cables, ports, etc.
Also disabled the fast transfer etc. etc.
Even tried several other ROMs, inclusding original Dutch 6.1 and Dutch 6.5
I'm having the same issue. I can connect via bluetooth, but not usb. And I'm stuck with 6.1. I was tole my phone was brand new, but now I'm starting to think otherwise.

Some questions, to verify this is due to flashing or is a fault in the design of the device...
- Where did you get the device?
- Have you flashed the device?
- Did you accidentally drop the device?
hi just to say had a completely orignal o2 xda orbit 1 flashed with new rom everything worked perfect before now active sync plays up i can sometimes connect but get usb device not reconigsed then click cross then pull out usb then reinsert then active sync connects works fully functional then after 5 min it disconects this is driving me mad as use active sync for a fast internet connection on my pda as my wifi is crap

HTC Sync not connecting ..... (HTC Sync 2.0.28 with Vista)

Got my first android after using WM for years.
Tried everything to get HTC Sync to work but in vain.
Installed HTC Sync that came with phone on the SD card i.e., version 2.0.28.
Tried different USb ports on laptop running Vista but still no connection.
Can anyone help in getting HTC syn to work please ????
You wrote really very good fault description.
So please, have You installed HTC sync and restarted PC?
Have You changed USB connection on Desire to HTC sync?
Dos it find new hardware on PC? Does it installed correctly drivers?
If all is OK, so You should have in bottom right corner of HTC sync written connected.

Already installed three times.
No luck so far. Please help. I try this three times everyday since I got my desire. Don't know what am I doingwrong. Installed/re-installed HTC sync on Vista laptop multiple times. Each time restarted computer. Connects device, USB device detected and installed successfully. HTC Sync option selected on attaching USB to device and computer ....... after trying for 30 seconds, gets msg on the device that "unable to find HTC sync on your PC". Though it is open in front of me.
Can you mount it as a disk drive? If you can it at least proves that the usb drivers are working?
You might also want to try disabling any firewalls and virus checkers.
You also need a USB 2.0 port -How old is the laptop?

It easily mounts as a Disk Drive.
Disabled firewall/Antivirus too.
Got USB 2.0 ports. Its Sony Vaio with Vista, less than 2 years old.
Umm..............
Are you loading HTC Sync twice. It sits in the tray. To sync you do it all from the desire. Plug in USB lead, switch from charge only to HTC sync, after 20 to 30 secs it should connect then press sync now.
im having exactly the same trouble, let me know how fixing this goes!
I feel like crying. 2 weeks since I got the Desire. No progress with HTC Sync. Even downloaded the newer version 2.0.33, which supposedly metions Desire as a supported device. Tried all possibilites but phone doesn't find HTC Sync on computer. No problems in using it as a disk drive but it is just sync which doesn't work.
This is pushing me to the wall and I'm seriuosly thinking about going back to WM/ HD2.

Hi there,
what version of Windows are you running? Is it 32/64-bit?
Did you try different USB slots on your computer? Cured the connection issues for me.
Hello,
I use this
http://www.htc.com/fr/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631
She works fine with my Desire with W7
Ensure your phone is setup to recognise HTC Sync:
1- From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings -> Accounts & sync.
2- On the Connect to PC screen on your phone, tap HTC Sync and then tap Done. Your phone attempts to find HTC Sync on your computer. Wait for a few seconds for the process to finish.
3- If your phone displays a message indicating that it’s unable to find HTC Sync, try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and then repeat step 2.
4- When the Phone Connection Wizard is displayed on your computer, click Next.
5- Enter the name you want for your phone, and then click Finish.
Check the HTC Sync icon at the bottom-right side of your computer screen. If it appears green in color, that means your phone has successfully connected with your computer and HTC Sync recognizes your phone.
If you still are unable to connect, please try the following (On a Vista 32-bit computer):
1- On your phone go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and turn USB Debugging ON.
2- Turn OFF your Desire and OPEN HTC Sync on your computer.
3- Connect USB cable to computer AND THEN to your phone.
4- Turn ON your phone again.
5- Now you should see a sync icon aside of the USB icon on your Desire's status bar. Pull the notification bar down and click on the sync icon and follow the steps in the HTC sync manager on your computer.
If still unresolved, try this:
1- Navigate to c:\program files
2- Create this directory structure underneath \HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86\
3- Unzip the uploaded zip file to that folder http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VCAV799X
4- Plug Phone into Computer via USB
5- Under Notifications Mount as USB Drive
6- Navigate to Storage Card\HTC Sync Tool_2.0.28\HTCSync_2.0.28 an run
7- Reboot
8- Open HTC sync, plug in your phone and follow the Wizard
First time I install HTC Sync( on my PC with Vista(32bit), it can not connect the Desire. I read the help file again, then I stop anti-virus software and re-install HTC Sync, and then it works fine.
@ Mastoid. Thanks for detailed reply and your help. However, nothing worked yet. Your file at megaupload is "unavailable" and therefore I haven't been able to try the third option.
OK - I was in the same boat and thought I had got one step closer but now back at square one::
Windows 7 32bit - and a 1 week old install so as clean as it gets - on a 1 yr old usb2.0 dell. Brand new desire - likewise.
Initially installed HT Sync from web site - no luck despite all the usual shutting down of firewalls (zonealarm & Windows) / AV (avira) / multiple reboots of PC & Desire.
Uninstalled HT Sync and associated driver.
Installed the version that came on SD card.
Rebooted Desire & PC.
Plugged USB into a different port (in case).
Win reported "android phone usb device - ready to use" but still couldn't find HTC Sync.
Then I disabled Avira AV and eureka - I connected.
Renabled AV and couldn't connect again.
Disabled it and connected again - left the default "My Desire" as device name and seemed to be paired with the PC.
Rather than syncing there and then I decided to check I could replicate the connection so I unplugged the desire without syncing.
WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING with the previously successful setup I immediately plugged the desire in again and ... no connection and cannot find HTC Sync.
I have now spent another hour plugging in and unplugging rebooting enabling disabling and I simply can't get a connection again - DAMMIT.
One thing I do notice though is that regardless of the fact I have turned off the annoying "usb debugging" in settings/apps/developer (that box is thouroughly unticked) it continues to run whenever I connect via HTC sync (HDD mode is fine btw).
It was running when I connected successfully though so my first thoughts that this was responsible somehow seem unfounded.
I'm now wrestling with a new OS on my PC and my mobile and am pulling my hair out - any thoughts / suggestions (other than "HTC Sync is ropey, unstable and doesn't play well with other apps) would be a blessing.
Tnx, M1
@ Mark, I am still in that boat with a hole.... sinking. No luck with HTC Sync. Tried all suggestions/advice. Both versions 2.0.28 and newer 2.0.33. Disbaling antivirus, all processes, multiple re-boots, multiple usb ports ....... I have given up.
Currently focused on Drivers and that "usb debugging" mode that just won't turn off.

Wont connect as USB device

agh help...frustrated to the max.
I've accessed my sd card many times previously by connecting via USB, but for a reason i cant figure out it will only charge my device.
I'vre tried re-installing drivers, htc sync ect....any help?
I am running Neo's latest rom
