If you had to upgrade your Excalibur, what would you upgrade to ? - HTC Excalibur

I've had my Excalibur for about two months and I'm loving my entire setup so far but I've been looking at the htc's Palm Treo Pro as a possible candidate right now, this freaking thing is looking super cool and I'm dying to hold it(this sounds so bad, ) nevertheless I just want to see how it feels in my pocket and its general functions, so if you had to upgrade, what would you upgrade to ?

The Blackjack II which I just upgraded to a couple days ago
Faster processor, double the ROM and RAM, almost double the battery capacity, still only 100 bucks for a new one ...

The G1 haha

Just love the look of the device got good features too...
Mind you think i shall be sticking with the Dash for a while no rush...

Would either go with touch pro or diamond, love the diamond but i'm not that well off lol. Thats why i got the dream coming!!

G1 is tempting me
I love my Dash, thanks to this forum.
I have looked at different phones for a while and nothing has been nice enough to spend the money. I have considered BB Curve, BB 8820, Kaiser, unlocked iPhone, and probably more. All of them have been missing something or would have been more of a lateral move, not worth the money.
The G1 is nice enough to make me seriously consider getting one. If NRG would port Mini weather over to Android I would be sold. It is a Great app that I miss every time I pick up another phone.

Wow, I had no idea, I actually considered it briefly but I did not take a serious look at it, are you running 6.1 and how many megs do you have at boot up, of ram, do you find yourself closing apps or just leaving them be. thanks NRG

I get about 80 megs free at bootup. I never close apps anymore, dont find the need to. And of course I'm running 6.1 with my weather app on it... lol

OMG, that's so sweet I'm going to get one, are you aware of the Garmin Mobile XT hack for free GPS loaded to the miniSD card, I'm so stoked I can't wait, I'm retiring my Dash and moving on to the BJII, will your cab file for the weather app run natively on the bjII, thanks NRG

NRG, what browser are you using on the BJII, is it Opera Mobile by any chance. thanks

Miniweather works just fine. The blackjack is exactly like a Dash, it runs the same OS. It just looks different
And yes, I run Opera Mini and it works just fine

Kyphur - How do you do it???

I know this is a new post, and I'll probably get flamed etc...
But, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
You were up before 5am posting a new rom (so no sleep last night).. went to work and still carried on answering questions (good and dumb ones).. then you've got enough sense left to make a good decision NOT to include an embeded radio in WMXL AND close the thread to stop timewasters (like me)...
Go and get some sleep bcos we need you... stop posting for a few days and just watch us get screwed up and sorted out without you - you've already done the hard work, without which there would be no discussion...
Hero worship, hero worship, we're not worthy etc
I'm going to be off the forum for a few days, got to catch up on work and sleep. PM me any fixes. I'm already looking towards v0.30.
Oh yeah, if you're getting more value from your Hermes, send some support first to XDA-Dev (this place is expensive to maintain) then to the guys who came before me and if anything is left for me it's appreciated but make sure XDA and those who built the foundations I based this on get their fair share. See the list in my threads...
Long Live XDA!!!!!!!
i do have to agree!!
how on Earth have Kyphur the XDA-Devs team managed to turn my tytn from a slow WM5 pain to an awesome super speedy WM6 monster!!!
You guys are gods among mortals!
Yes, he is the man and all, don't say it too much or you will wear it off.
You know what I think we should do too? Send them some coin.
Come on guys, for all intensive purposes HTC and Microsoft where planning on screwing us by not giving us an update. Since so far their take is "Hell, you want WM6, then buy a new phone!" Yeah, like as if the TyNT is a $50 dollar candy bar.
Here come these guys and not only set the vanilla but are working on an improved version of WM6.
Even two bucks is better than just words --more is better, $5 perhaps? Show your support. I will.
Thanks for the work XDA!
You don't need to send these guys cash, they're made of money and are actually using multiple clones of themselves to work in parallel. Kyphur Mark I sleeps 20 hours a day, don't pity him. He has lost his looks though.

Sorry I've a problems to upload a pictures! Thank you Adderz91!!!
All this pictures from real ROM! Rom will be soon, as I understand this Rom possible now for Universal with 3G and 128 Ram...
Oh, where did you get this? Thats screeshots of my phone...
I 'm just kidding But, it looks awesome, any time i see that
I must say that that looks rubbish, Changes are very subtle and the honeycomb is just crap!
Better than nothing, w00t!
EDIT: I actually looked at the screenshots. The quality of the honeycomb seems to be sub-par.
The bottom bar in IE has buttons- nice! And I like that zoom slider.
I was thinking the honeycomb would be better. The screenshots seem to show the Zune style as better quality. If the honeycomb can only be slid up and down, then it's fairly simplistic. Is the honeycomb a replacement for the Start> Programs? If so, then it's a nice change. If it's a Today screen thing, then it's fairly rubbish.
In terms of an update to OS, this is good.
But I wonder how it stands up to the competition. The new additions will soon be old for us. Then it will be a comparison of 6.5 against OSx, WebOS, Android...

Guys, if you searched the boards on XDA you would see that there are people who started cooking roms on the new Beta.

WM6.5
Speed is awesome, still no honeycomb in Beta version,
Today screen works fine.
Love the smooth scrolling in programs menu..
the beta leaked version doing the rounds seems to be an amalgamation of the few wm6.5 features and the base 6.1 rom
need to wait a little longer probably for the honeycomb interface <fingers crossed>

Weird looking update to WM6... so will this new version allow you to still have plugins on your today screen? From the pics it looks like WM6.5 takes over your whole today screen...just like Touchflo3D and TouchFlo2D.
just a guess.
i think the honeycomb is not the today replacement. take a look on the honeycomb screenshot, if it is a replacement of today, i think it don't need the "Today" button, isn't it?

Am I the only one who thinks WM7 is going to look horrible? I saw a pre Windows 7 thing on youtube and it looked neat but this whole honeycombe thing looks horrible!

What was Tmobile thinking?

I've decided on getting the TP2 tomorrow from Tmobile. However, my concern is that they left out the home screen with the flip clock and opted for the myfavs rotating screen.
Doesn't make any sense. Not everyone uses myfav. I'm on a unlimited voice plan ($50 unlimited voice) and have no plans to configure myfavs. Why couldn't they provide the ability to reset it back to the default home screen like on the unlocked versions. I really wanted to have the ability to look at my upcoming meetings/calendar at one quick glance if possible on the home screen.
From what I've heard, TP2 has minimal tmobile branding. Except for the home screen.
I'm hoping the cooks get a rom or some utility out there to default the TP2 back to the original HTC homescreen. argghhh..such a perfect phone and the carriers f**k it up!!
Enough ranting. I'll posting my initial thoughts when I pick up the device tomorrow morning.
Nice detailed review here with video of the TMO version on engadget.com
http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/12/t-mobile-touch-pro2-review/
agreed. hopefully a solution will arise quickly.
i'll be posting up my thoughts as well coming from a long time IPhone user.

yes, but is there anyway to maintain the benefits of My favs without having to have the tab present after setting it up?
i would assume the My favs are handled on T-mobiles side, not the phones.
Good news for me, I don't have/use My Faves. Nor do I plan on it. So if I'm understanding that right I should see the regular home screen?
If so, awesome.

Not having it or disabling the software display both work fine.
Crazy talk, I'm not with TMo yet, so I can't say for sure, but I would think disabling myfaves display on the phone would not prevent calls you make to your 5 favorites from getting special benefits.

Oh thank you! This must have been posted after I read the review/comments on engadget.com. Will definitely give it try as soon as I power it up.
It's all good.
I can't get over how much better the phone looks in the wild compared to TMobile's publicized shot. The Engadget and pocketnow almost don't look like the same phone. Tmobile's people somehow found a way to accentuate all the wrong stuff.

Windows mobile and TOUCH FLO allows you to change what you will have on your tabs in touch flo. Just switch the My Faves tab off and there you go. That should work.

Can't. The MyFaves tab is locked to the 1st tab, unless you disable it altogether (and in turn get the regular Home screen back)

If I didn't have my TP2, the money I put towards that would be enough to complete my time machine, which I would have used to go back 4 months and stopped the past sirphunkee from losing his Wizard, so the present sirphunkee could still have it and be happy
In other words, I'd still have winmo...just on another device, and most likely HTC.

Yeah, what he said.
I'd run into HTC with a gun and hold the CEO hostage until a phone with a slide out keyboard, big screen, and running windows mobile or i'll blow the building up....but shhhhh you didnt hear that from me ah ha ah ha ha ah ah........ Maybe a Pure or a unlocked HD2
If I didnt have my touch pro 2, I'd still be using Touch Pro 1.
I wish touch pro 3 would come out soon with 4.3 inch screen and a slideout keyboard..
Droid/Milestone or a Nexus One
The only reason I have a TP2 is because last May/June I wasn't overly impressed with the SatNav software available for Android and was, like a number of manufacturers, waiting for v2 to be released.
I believe the Open Source model for software is the way forwards. Opens development to over 6 billion people
If Rhodium didn´t exist...
I would be still using my beloved Universal for 2 reasons:
- Keyboard is a must for me
- Universal has the best keyboard!

Other than Uni, Probably I would be dead by waiting for Tera to be available for upgrade
I would NOT do a BB - no sense in going backwards!
Might have to think about an Android just for the FUN of it - maybe the Hero or maybe, maybe the Nexus (after they fix some of the "issues").
But for real work, probably have to find a WinMo - the John Deere of OS

Same but I would still have the Kaiser.
Kaiser. Definately.
Kaiser, or maybe Raphael, and would be eagerly awaiting HTC's next WinMo QWERTY slider.
if the touch pro 2 didnt come out id prolly still be on my original touch pro. if i had my choice though id prolly have the hd2. with the larger screen i realized i may not need the hardware keyboard as much. though if theres any plus to the tp2 it would be the keyboard. some times i wish i had the hd2 to i could go around smacking iphone users with it.
if i..
didnt have the TP2 i would most likely have the original TP. i wouldnt mind getting the hero or a HD2. The HD2 has a big nice juicy screen !!

I'd second that!! My Wizard was THE BEST, and I miss it...a moment of silence please to honor and remember my beloved Wizard.
I really think that HTC broke the mold on that device...everything since then, like the Wing for instance, was just a joke until the Rhodium came along.
My gut told me to go with the TP2, but the Tmo guy managed to convince me to try the Cliq--HATED IT. Then he said try the Behold 2, HATED IT...so finally I said I want my WinMo back. He said that Droid was the next big thing, I said I wanted old faithful...and now I have my Rhodium and am as giddy as a tween girl at a Jonas concert!!

Sky/Constellation Map

Hi guys, I've never posted in this forum, but here's to hoping it doesn't get moved or whatever. This seemed to be the most logical place to ask. I've been google searching for a few days now looking for a good sky/constellation map. I only have to drive about 20 miles out of town to be completely free of light pollution, and my girl and I find it quite relaxing. The last time I was in a planetarium was elementary school, so I don't quite remember where all the different constellations, stars, and planets that are visible with the naked eye are.
I saw some applications purporting to do just what I'm looking for via google, but I'm wary to install jack **** on my phone without reading some feedback from XDA. I've done a lot of cool **** with these phones, and haven't bricked a one of them thanks to y'all. I'm basically looking for an app that saves the star map to microSD (EDGE-only out in the country, sometimes GPRS if you REALLY get out there), and sets the view of the map based on GPS data. Also, it must support a screen resolution of 480 x 800.
Have any of y'all used such software in the past, and if so, what might your favorites be? I didn't even try to XDA-Google this, because I have NO clue as to the proper terminology for such an application.
Have a look at this...
http://www.nomadelectronics.com/PocketPC/PocketStars/default.aspx
You can download a free 15 day trial to see if you like it.
I've used it for years in its various versions.
Sweet action, dude. I'm trying out the trial right now, but we just had some nifty weather so the stars aren't visible. I'll check it out when it clears up. On a scale of 10, how would you rate it? Also, are you using the latest version? Thanks for the feedback.

I have used it for years too. On latest version. The GPS facility allows you to see exactly what is above you! 10/10 for me. Had astronomy programs of various sorts on WM devices. This is the best. Worth buying.
I'm on version 6.1.
For what I've used it for it's been fab. I'd give it a 9/10.
Another great one that I use is Astro Navigator 2
It will pick up your location via gps and the night vision mode it includes works pretty dang well!

Now I don't vote for that one. The display of the constellations and the whole GUI is a bit quirky. It seems to me that it was designed by a graphics artist rather than a "creative" astronomer. I got so fed up with it that I uninstalled it. Pocket Stars wipes spots off it (or knocks stars into it!).
Pocket Stars has GPS and night vision colours you can choose.
For years I used Pocket Universe 2000, designed for WM2003. It was never redesigned to work with WM5 and WM6. It would work but you had to avoid the first splash screen, else it locked up! But it had the simplest and easiest to understand GUI and clear star display and even a tree lined horizon, if you really wanted it, as an option. It might still be around on the internet. I bought it and used it for a long time, but I bought Pocket Stars and it is now so much better.
I see DeathmonkeyGTX has now asked for a screen save. You do not need to do this really as you can recreate the sky for any place and any time and then view it. However, if you want to save a screen (of any app) then you could run Resco Photoviewer or some other graphics program than can copy the screen on the WM device and save to microSD etc. I use Pocket Stars at 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution. Have a look at the web-site of the developers to see if it works on 480 x 800?
Looks like I need to update, I'm on version 6.0, but I've also used Pocket Stars for the last three years or so I've been using Windows Mobile.
Here's a screenshot from my Tilt 2.
