help, need a creative hard reset procedure or something - HTC Excalibur

I've read the wiki and faqs beforehand. Now, with that out of the way here's my issue. I need to either hard reset or reinstall a new rom on my t-mobile branded dash. Here's the constraints
1) left soft key doesn't work, but all other buttons do.
2) I can't activesync and I've never synced the phone to a computer before.
That's it.
I recently posted a couple questions because the phone got oil damage and wouldn't start up. Well... i fixed that, but for some reason when booted up, it automatically locked the keys. I would normally click left soft key and * , but of course... left soft key doesnt work. Therefore, a traditional hard reset won't work, and if it could, well... i'd just unlock my keys right. Since this was my mothers phone, i never needed to sync it and I tried syncing a few minutes ago and get nothing. That's probably because the phone is locked.
The phone is carrier unlocked and runs on att network.
Common guys... need your help on this one. Either a way to unlock to keys or a way to hard reset would be good... as long as the hard reset doesn't result in a fresh os that starts up with keys locked.

Look below and download the new 6.1 Rom and then navigate here on how to set up the rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=415225
Follow those instructions and it will work for you.

well thanks, but step 1 is not possible. In my original post, i mentioned that i can't sync because 1) the phone has never been synced before and 2) my comp, which already has activesync installed for my hermes, doesn't recognize the device in the usb port.

Yeah dude, can't even run the sda unlocker man. It asks to connect my phone. Whats up on an old school sd rom install.. oh yeah, that violates the first law.
So, there seem to be two rules. No left soft key and no activesync. HELP?

im me if you think you can help

remote hard reset
ATT says that they can remotely do a hard reset from their corporate fortress of pain and suffering. I will allow them to rape my data stream in an effort to free my soul of the keylock demons. I will have plenty of holy water... so don't you worry.

Maybe try a program like my mobiler or True Connect Pro. You could possibly put the cabs on your SD mini card and control your mobile thru your pc and clear your storage to hard reset. Your probably still going to need active sync but do your research just to be sure.
Honestly I think your phone is fubar. If you spilled some oil inside it and buttons are not working it's only a matter of time where more problems will occur.
Good Luck

your right... it had a good 2 week run after the oil spill. Now, even though yesterday it was charging and starting fine, today it wont charge or start. Oh well... i give up.. anyone need a new battery?

XDA 2 Upgrade to ROM 1.72.181

I was in the process of applying an upgrade to the ROM using my laptop.
Everything was going fine so I went to make a drink. When I returned the screen saver was active on the Laptop and the screen on the XDA 2 was grey showing a progress report of 55% complete. When I looked at my PC sdreen there was an error message saying that my USB connection had failed (not the exact words) and offered to try to re-connect or end connection. I tried both but couldn't get activesync to reconnect. I have since tried a soft reset and hard reset but all I have is the O2 start screen with the bubbles. I can not switch off without removing the battery. Please Help
Regards Peter

It looks like the screensaver screwed up the connection. Not to worry, your device can still be upgraded.
Put the device in boot loader mode by pressing and holding the jog button (bottom centre of device) and the power button at the same time and press reset button. This should show the bootloader screen (dark screen with Serial V1.0x displayed). Put the device in the cradle and it should then display USB V1.0x. You don't need Activesync as the upgrade process looks after its own connection.
Make sure that the cradle is connected directly to th USB port on your laptop and not to a HUB and that the power supply is connected to the cradle. Disable the screensaver on your PC , restart the upgrade and it should work OK.
Hi there, I am from Malaysia, have feel question:
1) I am currently using Rom 1.72 which WAXX posted it earlier. Should I upgrade to this version that dcs posted? Is it necessary?
2)What is Blckberry that u guys kept on mention?
Thanks you very much.
You are a STAR Sir
Thank you very much for your help. It is people like you that brighten up the dullest of Manchester days. Your advise worked a treat and saved me from returning, what was a paper weight, to the "O2 Service Dept" (who are subcontracted by O2). Why they couldn't have given me the same instructions I will never know.
Just to alert others to the incompetance of the whole system. Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to switch off the screensaver, (I suppose with hindsite I should have checked it myself!!!).
I spent the best part of an hour on the phone being passed around different departments as I questioned why it should happen and why nothing was being done to rectify the matter.
I am informed by the O2 Service Dept that a memo highlighting the Number of people returning machines affected as mine, has been ciculating the offices of O2, and distributed to Dealers for the last week. Wouldn't it be easier to temporaraly remove the download or add a warning about screensavers, or is this just another way the Service Dept has to make money?
Once again Thank You

Thank you . To be fair though, until you had this happen, I never thought about the consequences of a screensaver activating. It is something I can add to the list of things to be aware of though .
From what I have read from different people on this forum, however, I agree that O2 support is sadly lacking in basic knowledge for these 'modern' devices, and one would now expect their installation instructions to contain the things they should have learnt from people like yourself. We will have to see .

forgotten password - PDA2k

Hi,
I can not recall my password; kinda silly but real...
I don't want to make a hard reset and loose my son's pictures at his graduation ceremony.
Any recommendation?
Youy should be able to hook the phone up to your cradle & then browse using activesync to transfer all your wanted files onto your PC before you hard reset. Even if you only manage to sync as a guest, not a peer, file browsing should still work from the PC
Thanks for your response..
When I get connected via cradle, I get a message like "this mobile device is password protected. In order to connect to the device, you must enter its password."
So, I can not browse.
I feel like I need to hack my own device..

There are only 4 digits.. maybe u can try all the combo....
Earlier, it used to give a message telling it was the wrong password, when I enter directly from the device.
Now, it does not give any response, just waits.. I have soft reset device each time or reseat it to cradle to reactive ActiveSynch.
I wonder if it is blocked or not.. I might be trying hopelessly..
i'm facing the similar issue...
would a hard reset do the trick?
i think so.
you don't have nothing to loss.
same probelm
hey people,
i'm with the same problem i tried an alphanumeric password and now i cant get it right.. I tried to do the hard reset but i think i'm doing the soft reset. In the manual says to hold the power button and press reset. I did this millions times and stills asks for the device password!!
can anyone help me?
In case that this wont work is there anything i can do? developing it to the factory or something?
thx in advance..
Hey.... face the truth...
Hardreset it...
My Grandpa' told me long time ago....
"Isn't good to have all the eggs on the same basket"
Thanks Grandpa... i always record in two cameras, or imediatly synced my data for backup...
Oh yes... Skynight...
Does you have the original for BA manual? i mean maybe if you google a little or read the wiki pages can found how to perform a hardreset... or maybe i become a great guy and tell you where it is.... mmmm im hungry search please.
plz help me man..the manual says power and reset. i searched on forum and they said camera+power+reset would do it. when i do that way i only get a white screen with something written on it..I only had the pda for a couple of hours and it's my first pda, i'm kinda new in this "world".
can u tell me the right way to do it? In a electronic store it costs 50€ and i dont wanna pay that
thx
@skynight
You said you see white screen and something written on it? So what's written on it?

Anyone wm 6.5 savy?

I flashed to NFSFAN's wonderful 6.5 rom for sprint vogue. After doing so I have lost ability to connect to internet and connect to active sync. Active sync gives me an error your device has malfunctioned over and over again. I've already tried the Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC, uncheck 'Enable faster data synchronization' for active sync with no luck. In the past when I've done a hard reset, I then also had problems connecting to the internet. Even called sprint whom couldnt help. Went through the ## codes to get to the M.IP default profile where the NAI was and it read about 7 numbers @sprint blah blah blah along with my public key in some symbols and signs. After changing my NAI to the proper address the phone would initiate the iota and everything would be dandy. Not so much with this 6.5. I love it but I need internet in order to survive lol at least until the rhodium Even if I can get back to the 6.1 rom, how would i be able to do that without the active sync connection? Anywho, help please? Thanks

Can you access your SD card via your PC? move the SD card to PC, copy to it, put SD card back in phone, turn phone on, wipe hands on pants ...
Otherwise with ANY custom ROM I always suggest, flash, let customizations run, hard reset, let customizations run, use phone, dance in your pants
for some reason it eliminates issues (like your having) from happening nearly as often or at all
Detroit Doug
I have that exact same rom.
All I did was run the dcd cab for my carrier,
Do you have alltel by chance?
because if so I have the arcsoft cabs you'll need to run for mms.
Otherwise you'll have to search for your carrier's mms cabs.
And whenever you plug your phone into the computer there should be a screen that pops up that says "Connect To Pc" on the top and has three options,
Activesync,
Disk Drive
Internet Sharing
If you don't look at the screen for like 30secs after you plug your phone in to your computer you'll miss that screen.
So pay attention to it.
That's all I can think of right off the top of my head.
Any other questions?

I think for sprint, it's the same as for Telus, in that you set it to #777 and leave username/password blank - HOWEVER - if in EPST your M.IP settings are wrong, it will not connect, and you will be greeted with "Cannot connect for an unknown reason" on the device. Your carrier should be able to give you the info for the setting you need to correct. To get to the setting you need your MSL, pop in ##PST# or whatever, and it's in there under view info - M.IP Default Profile. make sure it's set to ENABLE and the NAI is correct. For Telus it's your mobile [email protected]. Not sure what Sprint would be here. You'd have to ask someone with sprint.
If you've done all this already, and I've misread/not read that part, I apologize! Hope this at least points you in the right direction for solving your problem though! No data is no good!
??????????
mbaseball3, did you solve your problem?
yes everything is almost working properly. thanks guys! my only problem though, still, is activesync on my computer still does not recognize my phone. I've been basically stumped. one great feature of this rom though is the PIM backup =D life saver. still a pain though not being able to sync phone with comp and having to go the long way of using storage card for loading and unloading things. still open for trying to solve this problem though if anyone has possible solutions. thanks all again

Are you using either 64bit version of Vista or Windows7? if so I know I had to completely uninstall and then fully re-install WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) to make my phone sync with my PC again

Yep. Same thing here. Switched to Windows 7 x64 and had to re-do everything. Outlook even erased all of my contacts on the first sync so back them up first! Once I restored them, all is well.
I'm actually still using windows xp. by the time I got around to wanting to try out windows 7 microsoft shut down the download. no biggie though.

go to start->settings-> connections-> "USB to PC" -> then check off "activesync" and "ask me first..." Even if they are correctly checked, check something else off, soft reset, then put them back as they are supposed to be.
ok my activesync issue is no longer an issue. thanks for all the advice folks. something so simple cured it =D I just uninstalled then installed activesync (yes newest version from ms) and it worked. ta-da! shoulda been something done first but didn't think about it. doh!!

Glad your activesync issue cleared up.
Can you tell me how you got data working again? It took some time on the phone with verizon before they could get my newly flashed 6900 activated then I had to download a prl file myself to get rid of the roaming indicator. But I still don't have data working.
Thanks!

Backup from PC & dead Rhodium screen

OK first will start with a complain. Maybe I was unlucky but although I love my Touch Pro 2, I really feel like the Hardware is not that good... Today my screen completeled jamed up (White background with blue/pink/green dots). The phone is still working (I can receive calls, etc...) but cant see a thing
I doubt it's linked to my Windows ROM (Original one) since when I boot up I cannot even see the screen with the ROM/Radio and Booloader version. It's only when I switch the screen on and off that I get the jammed screen (Otherwise it's black). So I can try to Hard reset... but I believe it's rather the video controler that is dead
Anyway... since the phone is still working (Activesync works !) and I stupidly didnt backup my MMS and SMS... I was wondering if someone knew how to back them up from my PC (For contacts and emails they are already backuped through Outlook)
Thanks a lot in adavnce and good luck with your device... (I cnat be 100% negative, I know many freinds who had to return their ipHone... Just pissed off that it happens to me without any particular reason)
Btw anybody got the same problem with their phone and found a way to fix it ? I am just so pissed off to ahve to ship it and wait for weeks without any phone...
Try MyMobiler. I'm in a similar position, my touch screen has stopped working, I can "drive" the phone on my PC using mymobiler.
Good luck!
Gordon
Thanks gonna give it a try to PIM backup before a Hardreset
There are many free to try remote control apps for windows mobile, they work in the same manner as pc remote cotrol apps and allow you to fully control the device from your pc. Google will find them easy.
You can also backup the databases via activesync.
Have you tried a tv out cable, perhaps it's just the device's ribbon cable that is damaged............
Cheers,
Beasty
Looks great
But why the hell my PC is not laucnhing Acivesync when I connect my Touch Pro 2.............. Happened to me in the past with my Hermes and I have no idea why. I am offered to acces to the files or sync my media files but not to sync... Aaahh the worst time for this !!! Gonna google that...
I hope I dont have to enable it on the device... (It reminds me of soemthing on some custom ROMs where you ahve to allow sync through USB... (Though in tis case it's the original ROM and it still proposes to see the device files...)
**** Reinstalled the crappy Activesync (Or Mobile center for the new version) and it worked. Cant believe... the laptop is brand new. Anyway thanks a lot the Software is great and will allow me to save everything

Big problem-phone lock problem.

I have a very big problem on my XDA IIs, i cannot unlock the phonelock even though i input the correct password.
-on my way home, my phone got emptied(battery empty). and then when i opened it, the problem began. please help me. what should i do?
-i have read articles stating that it is a common problem when the battery got emptied.
-my phone is an O2 xda IIs WM 6.5, serial 2.7.
-ty for the reply....
as i told you via pm already, there is no way to unlock the phone, once you set a password. the phone "forgets" the right password and would say, any password you put in, is wrong. that is why the only way to get rid of the problem is to re-flash the phone. a hard reset won't work, since that would be a terrible theft protection and also there is no way to backup any data, since even connected to the pc you are not given any access to the phone. that is why, in several threads here, and in several positions in my tutorial, i warn people, not to set a password in a cooked rom. you can do it in the stock wm2003 rom though, it works perfectly fine.
if you feel the need to protect your phone using a password, you need to look for 3rd party software to do that. i think spb has a nice app for that.
