While upgrading my XDAII to the new O2 rom, I got a connection error which tiole me to disconnect the xda and do a soft reset.
I did this and it's now stuck on the O2 boot screen and wont budge, wont connect via active sync and does nothing else when I hard reset.
Have I f**ked it up ??
Please help,
Tommy
Don't panic
Just reset the device, place it back in the cradle and re-run the upgrade. It doesn't require Activesync as the upgrade process looks after its own connection.
Make sure the cradle is connected directly into a USB port on your PC and not to a hub. Also make sure the power supply is connected to the cradle.
Thanks, but that doesnt seem to help, the program just says that their is no connection.
Do you have another PC you can use? or try using a different USB port.
tried it on both and nothing, It looks like the XDAII can't start up properly and that's why it can't establish a connection. As I said it's stuck on the O2 boot screen (the one with the bubbles on it) with the version nos at the bottom and does nowt else.
I feel sick...

OK. I misunderstood. I thought you were in the bootloader screen. So you need to see if you can put the device into bootloader mode. Press the jog button (bottom middle front of device) and power button at same time whilst pressing the reset button. This (hopefully) will put you in the bootloader - a dark screen with Serial 1.xx displayed. Then when device is put in cradle it should change to USB 1.xx. Then you can re-run the upgrade.
Whayhey
DCS you are indeed the man!
Thanks for your help.

HELP!!!
I have the exact same issue after the upgrade. Nothing will happen. I spent several hours trying resets, combination of button pressed, removed battery, resets, just to try to get back the boot loader mode but nothing is happening.
there has to be a way to do this and I hope someone on this board had that issue before and got it resolved.
I had a similair issue with my old XDA II, it turned out my storage card was corrupted. Use a card reader to check your storage card is OK, perhaps format the storage card (having saved any data first of course) and see how you fare
Have had the same problem wirh a radio ROM update on my QTEK9000. The anly thin that still worked was the hard reset. After the hard reset the device still did not respond. But when i connected it to the PC I could start the updateprocess of the original ROM. I took about 20 minutes for the whole procedure and than the Qtek9000 was back in factory default (Pffff and I could breath again).
So perhaps you can try a hard rest and then connect aganin to the PC.
I allready tried this!
But nothing happens.
Even if i put the power device or the usb into the mda, no LED schows anything. just sometimes the LED is red for not more than a minute. if it then goes out, i get the message "Unknown usb device" in my PC
Are you in bootloeader mode? Do you see the words USB or Serial on the screen of the Universal in Portrait mode. Note: Backlight is off so you have too look real hard, but it should be there
no, i see nothing.
I had quite a hard time yesterday while upgrading. The bootloader is very hard to see, use a torch to lite up your display. In portrait view on the top should be the word serial or usb, on the bottom v1.00.
I also did a hard-reset in this stage, but it just returned to the bootloader menue.
If I connect to the PC and the device is recognized I see the word serial in the display change to USB. For me I do not know the reason but my PC did not want to fulfill the upgrade process. Needed to take another PC (Laptop) to solve the problem. After the upgrade of the ROM, You still need to upgrade the Radio (this was my experience) before a cold-reset will put You back to business.
Good luck.

Having the exact same problem as gary_b and having performed quite a few upgrades, I can confirm there is absolutlely nothing on the screen. The unit will not go into bootloader mode or even able to do a hard reset. It is not recognized when plugged in the USB.
When connected to power and the hard reset procedure is done, the red charging light will come up for less than 1/2 seconds and disappear.
I tried all different combination to make it boot but nothing. If I could at least get it to bootloader more, I can revive it.
Feel very bad I cannot help here.
I was wondering Yesterday about one thing. IF, during all this upgrading process, the battery runs out, (as it does not seem to charge during upgrade process) will it show bootloader screen ?
Would it be possible to get a loaded battery from somebody to check yours ?
That is a good suggestion to try out, but I have been unable to find anyone that has that device. It might be simply a drained battery.
Mine got corrupted I think at the end of the upgrade right after I did a regular reset instead of teh power and reset procedure.
However, I would think that even with no battery in, the unit should power back up when plugged in no?
Maybe an idea for somebody who is doing upgrading now, and is in bootloader status anyway.
Take out the battery, but connect with USB to PC with ASync. Does the bootloader state show ?
I am sorry to not do it for myself, if You saw my desperate state Yesterday, You will believe that I am not willing to see that bootloader screen for some time, sorry.

now i know what to do:
Nothing!!
I went to a service-point with my mda pro and there was nothing to do with it.
If this happens the complete memory is "killed". Like "format c:" and while format is running you switch out the power.
Thanks god: I got a new MDA pro because i did not tell them (in the store)that i tried an update!
But i called the service-line before anf they told me that there is nothing to do!
But thx
Wow, can't say that this is good informatuin for those with this problem, but very glad it worked out for You.
I ve had this problem 5 minutes ago. Finally a took out the battery. Then connect to AC and Red led is on. Then i put the battery, tried hard reset and message to confirm hard reset in the screen (wellcome to life, jasjar). Then i run radio update again and it's upgrading rigth now....buffffff
I almost suffered a heart attack when this happened an hour ago. Have found that the update works fine if the SD card is taken out... phew.
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to convert my Startrek/Qtek8500 back from paper weight into a working cell phone.
After years of flashing devices it went wrong this time.
I successfully unlocked the phone and could replace the Vodafonerom with the Qtek-rom 3.6.251.0_02.67.30. But I also wanted to try out the Cingular rom 4_1_.1.502.4_02.79.30_CWS.
I hoped to find the PAN-Bluetooth-Profile in it.
However, this did not work.
The phone is stuck in the three-colour-upgrade/flash-screen since then.
Hard reset (holding the two softkeys and then turning the phone on) does not work. If I plug in the USB cord, the display shows "USB" in the left bottom but the phone is not recognized by ActiveSync.
I know there is a way to flash the phone via microsd-card, but I do not know the details about this method.
I have unpacked a RUU_xxxxx.exe file with Universal Extractor and copied the resulting files to a FAT-formatted 2GB MicroSC card. However, the card is not discovered during startup, the phone goes into the "upgrade mode".
Do you have any ideas? Any help is appreciated!
Many thanks in advance!
Hi Eveyone
Help needed please.
I came by an XDA Orbit that refuses to work. The symptoms are as follows:
1. When power button is pressed to turn it on the 02 Splash screen comes on for about 3 seconds then some red writing flashes up on the top left of the screen. The phone then turns off. No matter what I do it always does this. Once I have been through this sequence once it won't turn on at all. The only way I can get it to work is to take the battery out for about 30 seconds and re-insert but it never gets passed the splash screen.
2. I can get it to go in to the boot loader mode (multi coloured screen) and if connected to my PC will show USB in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. However Activesync will not recognise it and I therefore can't upgrade the ROM to try and fix it.
3. I have tried to flash the rom from SDHC card but nothing happens
Anybody got any ideas or is it screwed?
Thanks for your help
just read the last line here

Bricked XDA Orbit
So if you can't flash from a SDHC card how are you supposed to do it?
Is there any other way I can flash the XDA orbit or get it tom connect to my computer so I can flash it
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
you can flash it with sd
sdhc means sd high capacity and they are about 8,16gb
there are MILLIONS of threads about bricked devices, and at least a third of them is answered...please read before posting
So after an unsuccessful ROM flash my phone was stuck at bootloader for quite sometime...i had a micro SD card reader and inserted it into multiple computers running XP, vista and ubuntu...they all registered that i had plugged something in but wouldn't show it as a disk drive...now i've already figured out how to access it but i put a new ROM image on it and tried to reflash but after the flash when my phone booted up it simply switched itself off... when i switched it back on it went back to the bootloader and tried to reflash the ROM. mid flash it just switches itself off... I realize that this is probably due to the charge level of the phone so i plugged it it but it will be off and charging then it will suddenly decide its got enough battery power and boot up to the bootloader screen until it dies again...how do i stop this vicious loop

Something worth trying:
1.You could take out the battery for one minute or longer.
2.Now put the ROM's .nbh on your SD card [Make sure it is named "RHODIMG.nbh" (no quotes)].
3.Put the SD card and battery in and press/hold Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
4.That'll put you in Bootloader Mode, and it should ask you if you want to update your phone's image (something like that).
5.Follow the prompts and it should start flashing (you'll see the bar).
6.Soft reset after the flash says it's complete.
I once went through that and this is what I did. I was able to unbrick my phone.
However, (back in September/October) there was another instance of the same thing happening to someone, but he never got it fixed; he did get the stock ROM and SPL back on it, but had to return it to HTC because it still kept cycling into Bootloader.
Good luck!
