This thread is about sharing your subjective feeling about the speed and responsiveness of the different ROM's you've tested, eg. what is your subjective "feeling" about what ROM's are the fastest and most responsive when it comes to user interaction? Share your experiences!

(I was going to post this in pietruccis benchmark thread, but realizing that this discussion could be huge, being subjective in nature, and pietruccis thread being mostly about synthetic benchmarks, I figured a new thread was the best.)
Personally, I've only moved between stock 1.37, 1.93 and SwiftBL V6.0 FULL. Between 1.37 and 1.93 there was a noticable difference, but between 1.93 and SwiftBL V6.0 the difference was slight, if any, in TF3D. Opera (1938) felt faster, though. Now moving to Swtos 1.0 FULL.
The Swtos ROMs benchmarks very well so it will be interesting to see how it feels compared to the SwiftBL V6.0 that I have now.
Also, the TOR V2 ROM claims to "feel" very fast, it would be interesting to see anyones comment upon that.
My opinion is that CT's v5L is the right choice.
See my comments on it:

It does.
Scrolling and using WM, like programs and settings. Never had it this fast, feels like my old magician on WM2003SE
i have tested boot time on two roms:
swtos 1.0 full: 00:49
tor v2: 1:02
For boot time i mean the time elapsed from the switch on vibration and the phone ready to insert pin.
Then the interface(manila, fotos, music) seems to be a very little bit faster(maybe its just a feeling) on swtos 1.0

Same here...
i've tested stock o2 1.37, bepe 0.99dx, stock o2 1.39 and now TOR_Rom v2.
The TOR Rom is very fast and still stable, all programms are runing fine for me and faster as bepe's rom i think.
Personally, I think all "stock 1.93 based" roms have the same performance. I tried Bepe's, Panosha's, Dutty's, Swtos's and finally TOR and I can't see any difference in "core" Windows performance (except swtos, but it is very very light, full version performs similar to stock 1.93). Maybe there is some TF3D performance gain, but windows-gdi graphics (drawing of windows, controls and response times) and filesystem performance seems to be the same to me or barelly recognizable.
My opinion is that all this roms are about new versions of preinstalled software. It's good that you can get new versions of HTC applications before official ROM is released.
I think this "WOW THIS ROM IS FAST" myth comes from a fact, that when you have your ROM fully installed and little bit "bloated", then you flash new ROM and see the performance gain. But same thing happens to me with clean stock ROM 1.93
So the best ROM up to date for me (in the matter of performance gain) is HTC's 1.93.401.2 - compared to 1.37 it was a very big jump.
Best ROM?
I have had various PDA's over the last 10 years, and have always primarily used the cooked ROM's from the XDA-Developers forums, many thanks to you all, and I have gone from a Magician, to the Artemis, then to a Polaris, and now to my best HTC device the excellent Diamond.
I guess all the ROM's on the Diamond forums have their merits, and some have minor flaws, and some with new programs for us all to play with, also we now have lots of new software gadgets to throw at the Diamond, and also the developers have given us lots of extra free precious RAM to play with our new Diamonds, many thanks for that...
But I feel that since my Polaris, with all the great work done on SPB Mobile shell, and all the great skins from great designers like greatbal etc, and with the various HTC home customizations that emerged, all trying to emulate the TouchFlo 3D interface beautifully, that nothing majorly new has appeared as yet for the Diamond?
Now I have my Diamond for a month or so I feel a little flat, i.e. after about 50 plus flashes with pretty much most of the ROM's here, I feel that with no new major re-design for the front end of theTouchFlo 3D interface, or indeed major enhancement has emerged?, allot of great work has gone into speeding up the Diamond, and some themes have been developed, but no major work has appeared re-designing or adding to the TouchFlo 3D interface? Maybe it is too complicated to achieve?
Anyway my favorite ROM is the Speedup TOR_ROM V2, Many thanks to AlphaZero.
A big thank you to all the excellent developers and cooks at XDA-Developers, and to all the users sharing their experiences along the way...
Best Is Subjective. These threads lead no where. Try them out yourself.

I set up this for Tom, I am sure my space is about to have to add a server.
Touchflo like never before
Okay, I am going to let the cat out of the bag, I have been testing B&B 4.0 BETA'S for about a week.
Tom is very particular about releasing his ROMS due to his desire for perfection, he works day and night trying to get this thing right, but is working overtime at his real job trying to keep in good financial standings.
This is extremely difficult as a student as most of you know, so I feel that it necessary for US as a community to show this guy some support.
Meaning hit this
Now onto what you all want to know, this Rom is super fast, faster than B&B 3.7. The touchflo works as if it were native, not a single bit of slow down. Anything that you have a scroll bar on you can use the touchflo on, meaning EVERYTHING. It is simply awesome.
It is now my opinion that our device out does any and all existing devices.
The release on the ROM is pending, there are still a few small tweaks that need donedue to the fact that Tom is having to volunteer for overtime at work, bills must be paid...
Dont get me wrong, he will finish it soon, but the less he has to volunteer at work the sooner we get the final version.
I am sure Tom will be embarrased by me being so blunt, but I cant help it, this guy is working his off and ask for nothing, he only posts the links for donations after we prod him.
Here is a little pic of the welcome screen,

Please be patient, another reason this is taking time is due to internet connection issues, the same reason I am posting this info for Tom_Codon.
Please continue post in the "Lets get a head start on B&B 4.0 release issues"
thread.
If you disagree with my post, pleae pm me, no need to post here and discourage others. Thanks and have a good day
Wohhh ..!
Nice Wellcome Splashscreen..!
Wait v4.0 and will donate to Tom 10euro.Sorry now my ACC paypal 0 money
Cool ... просто отлично.
Eagerly anticipating 4.0 release.
Does the ringtone manager continue to act as if it's always in Automatic mode. i.e.. setting the phone to vibrate everytime you have an appointment in calendar?
Looking forward to seeing what you've done Tom you really have stolen the show as far as the artimis goes.
Impressive stuff so far.
Please 'have a pint or 3 on me'.
Cheers
Matt
Good Call and Great Cause, I'll pitch in shortly.
We owe him more then just a few dollars and million thanks!!!!!!
Look Great !!!! In... Tom we trust !
I'm now impatient to try this new rom.
gotta be honest, donated for v3.7 and will again for v4.0, but I prefer OEM look for startup and welcome screens, just my input... dont like the PDAVIET branded welcome screen, but just my opinion.
Anticipating v4.0 soon! Thanks for the effort on this ROM, looks very well done.
The first i want say special thanks to [email protected] creat for me Blog myspace and make for me Video Touch Flo in artemis.
And Thanks all people give me support in past times.
I will release v4.0 Professional as soon as well..!
Thanks again...!
looks very cool. I too prefer the standard looking splash screens though, no biggy it can be changed once hte rom is installed i imagine. Whats the professional version going to have?
Eagerly waiting for this release, (just like the rest of XDA-Dev forums) Many thanks Tom, certainly owe you a few beers buddy!
Is there any chance that the ROM will be available by friday? Im going on vacation on Saturday morning and would love to have the new ROM in by then. But no pressure mate, I know that it has to be finished before you'll release it. Keep up the great work!
and now i'm confused
the big question is...
Do I install the official O2 rom and spend time making it work...or do I wait for Tom to release B&B 4.0?
Choices choices......
Im going to wait for V4.0, not putting another O2 Rom on my phone, dont like the operator specific settings.
I wanna the ROM 4.0 now, please !!
WTF?
thats really an Artemis?
Can't believe it! It's so FAST!
COOL
...though I´m still stucking my original O2 ROM I really appreciate the hard work of TOM. I ave viited his webpage and saw the "new projects".
Will donate, as or sure I will try sooner or lter one of his ROMs.
Tom: Keep up the great work

I can garantee you, mate... wait for the v4...
O2's rom is crap if you've used or tried v4!!
Really this is very sweet ROM... Just give it some time for the final beta testing...
Yeah that sounds really great. I also can´t wait no more longer for this great ROM. I hope Tom will release it soon, but take your time.
I want to see the video but i can´t access this site in the first post. Can anyone please upload it to youtube or something else.
Would be great.
AND AGAIN: MANY THANKS TO TOM!!!!!
Your are my God
Just wonder why we can not find it to download?
Google Android SDK is out, when will we see the first Alpha for our trinity?
Google Android SDK
I was looking at this lastnight, would be great to get it running on a trinity, but I'm betting it would be a b*tch to find the required drivers for a lot of the more advanced hardware (gps, 3g radio, etc...)
That said I think it still needs a bit of polish before it'll be truely ready, very pretty though.
would be prety cool and maby better faster and nicer than WM
it will be faster than WM

how long will we wait?
it appears that in the video, they explain that 3G+, wifi, GPS etc... a lot of technologies would be supported, and, as all of you knows, it is open source, so drivers won't be long to be released.
i also browsed the http://code.google.com/android and looked after the members of what they named "The Alliance", it appears that HTC is one of them, so it will be good for us =)
let's have news later of this really good looking project !!!
Older stuff
It looks like a good project. But what would be nice is a OS that can be installed on older PDAs (With or without phone). Some of the older units which have larger screens and good cpu just languish in the closet because the OS is outdated and the manufacturer would rather sell new than support older units. I've invested money into a solid unit that now just sits, and moved everything over to the Trinity.
But hey, someday the Trinity will be old and it's sites like this that will be the only support.
Is there anything new to the Android OS on HTC Trinity? I'd like to test it... ;-)

I repeat myself: Don't expect anything for free for the P3600. HTC has obviously stopped work on this device, and moreover is already angering customers with next-generation-phones, by stating that the problems might be solved in future devices. So don't hold your breath for HTC to create drivers for hardware from 2006.
Have fun!

I think HTC Touch is the only pda capable to run android, but yes, i'd love to run into my white trinity...
I have read on official mailing lidt for Android, that android is made for ARM5 processor.
Our trinity have an ARM4 processor so,it won't work.
And it's look like you can't cross compil to ARM4 besause some part of the kernel is not release, and some processor instrution need to be replace...
Android, Google, MS and other "paranoid" stuff
Ok Folks,
From time to time my "looming" side wins over and my paranoid side peeks up...
Don't be so eager to see the new android as a 7th wonder. What I thought (and feared most) about MS as a Big Brother one day (the "conspiracy" to make us buy ever newer "state of art" computers and because the new OS versions (with each time more demanding HD, memory and processor specs; not to speak of the unknown amount of personal data unknowingly "smugled" into their databanks) now seems grow even worse as the new BB stands up with the happy idea of "net free applications!".
So what? Why can we not set the Google Maps Cache according to our needs? Why do we need to be ON-LINE to use it?
We are stimulated to move some of our files to free-on-line datacenter (or shortly will be invited to).
Think of it a little: if a good part of our applications move to the WEB, fine, cheap, but you'll have to be on-line to access it.
How about some nice and cheap montly contribution, some sort of "signature" for you to access the files you put there. Imagine if MS brokes up and everbody turns Google and Android. How much power do you think this Corp will amount?
If Android goes this thread (on-line apps only or mostly) keep your head down and take easy. The least I would expect was to see the old Bill's as a nice guy after all...
After all, with normal software once bought it is YOURS (ok Antivirus and such don't count), with on-line apps, it will never be yours...
Ok, that is it.
Have a nice week!
Nothing except free software is yours when you use it.
I wouldn't count on an Android port for HTC devices (not even the Diamond). Windows Mobile is a great platform but nobody took advantage of its full capacity.
Don't expect to see anything better than WM6.1 running on a Trinity.
By the way, does anybody know if Linux currently works on it?

Actually there have some threads, out of date... The developers seem to have left Trinity out, because of its lack of keyboard.
I could not find anything downloadable for it. Last time Isaw was two weeks ago...

Kernel vs ARM4
We need to wait that kernel have drivers to work with ARM4...
Android on Trinity wanted!!
now that the full code is out it's possible!!
who is able to translate the available WM drivers into Android drivers?!?
Hey guys, bought finally a Blackberry Javelin (Curve 8900) and want to share my initial impressions. Maybe of interest for you because you like the BB form factor in general. I think the classic Blackberry form factor employed in all wide BBs, the BlackJack and the Excalibur is the best form for a phone.
Had Blackbarrys from my company for years, then the BlackJack great phone with worse speaker quality (very low volume) more than a year, tried the Excalibur now as I wrote in another post. Great phone with excellent xda-dev-support. But still some weaknesses. So I bought the Javelin in a weak moment:
Pros
- Excellent hardware & build quality, small, tight, solid, round, smooth, much better than the bold which has its name for a good reason. Better materials than most phones.
- The keyboard rocks. No other keyboard matches this keyboard, even better than the Bold because less finger movements required. The old Treos come very close (680, 750). Perfect form, space within keys and hub => short and crisp hub. Blackjack was too hard to press, Excalibur too long hub and wobbly feeling, Treo to round, but similar crisp hub and space between keys.
- The trackball, so precise and fast, EPIX could match, but the software implementation of the touchpad isn't on par with RIMs trackball implementation.
- Great screen, not the Touch Diamonds resolution but it's near
- Great UI, really!. After a days you understand how many thoughts the RIM engineers made, e.g.: the Media Player is despite keylock fully accessible, shortcuts everywhere like R for reply, overall you are pretty fast with the OS.
- Slick and unobtrusive GUI design
Cons
- No ActiveSync OTA only expensive BIS/BES service
- No xda-dev community instead somehow weird BB forums
- Feels somehow closed/undocumented like a black box, couldn't get Google Maps to work, maybe because of missing BIS/BES service
- Browser is for a BB browser very, very good but doesn't match latest Opera on Touch Diamond.
- A2DP sound quality good but cannot be tweaked to the max as with WM devices.
- No 3G but EDGE
If you ask me to choose one phone, I couldn't decide for one (currently the Javelin and the Touch Diamond, because there's no up-to-date WM phone with BB form factor). Overall the WM phone is capable of everything and a lot of stuff can be done a little better (e.g. A2DP quality tweaking) and the UI of WM6 plus Touch Flow isn't that bad. The Javelin is a rock-solid experience, hardware and software are seamlessly put together, better than by the iPhone done. I miss some features with the Javelin but at the end of the day the core and few non-core phone features like cam and media are prefectly realized. At the moment I use both phones with multiple SIMs depending on my mood.
Oh nice thanks for putting this information together. This could be very useful from some who are deciding to upgrade their dash.
Not ever, not in a trillion billion years. No blackberry has nor will one ever be held to my head.

lol, well I went out on a limb, I have a strong personal dislike for the BB
crackberry
THE only thing in my opinion that the BBs have that is any good is their tracball, that's it. My buddy from work has a curve/javelin and I think it sucks, that's just my opinion, not trying to disrespect anyone, cause when we were comparing phones ,even though he loves his bberry, he was amazed at how much customizability and how much more fun the dash is. That's all.
Yah the trackball is amazing, I got to give that to you...

now...this is a trackball....right?
I have tested many ROMs over the last few months, but in every ROM there were some minor or also major flaws. I finally managed to write them down and find "the two big groups".
A small annotation before you start reading the table:
I am a volunteer firefighter, and I mostly use my Diamond for tasks, which do not allow much time to pass. Therefore, a reliable and fast ROM is what I am looking for. This means: A call has to be accepted if needed, and not already in my pocket. Or (what also happened) that the caller has to wait for too long before the phone starts ringing on my side. If I need to place a call, I must be able to do it now and not waiting for the phone to reboot since it crashed the last time I put it back into my pouch.
Please read the complete table and tell me what you think about it.
If anyone wants the "raw" excel sheet do not hesitate to PM me.
It is not my intention to offend any of the chefs, you do a great work. Consider this as a "experience collection" and suggestions on how to improve your ROMs.

nice work i guess - have u tried the default/stock ROM? i think it should fit your needs
Yup, I had the original "Vodafone branded one" as well as the real stock ROM installed, but both did not provide adequate locking. I had some G-Sensor enabled locks, but they stand in no competition to the standard Sense 2.5 lock. And in WinMo 6.5.x nothing would change with the InCallLock.
At the moment I am considering trying to cook my own ROM, but I do not think I have the experience and patience to do so.
This is absolutely not representative!
I am using 6.5/6.5.x Titanium only for some time now, cooking my own ROMs, tried lots of builds and branches, using 28205 running on 2.10.206.1 OEM Driver right now. I am no flash junkie, if I like a ROM I use for quite some time.
I have none of the errors/problems you report. Particularly I have found no problems with battery life in any of the ROMs. Perhaps the ROMs you used were much too feature packed? Did you try some lite versions?
regards
The best one is the stock Touch Flow rom, I've been using custom roms for a while and was fed up with how slow they are. Last night I installed the latest version of the Touch Diamond rom from their website and I can't belive how much faster it is.
Brainsample, as I said, it is my personal experience and not neccesarily meant to be representative.
I tried several ROMs, and of course the Lite versions. I also flashed a new Radio as well as a new HardSPL. What ROM are you using? It may well be, that this one does not have the battery drain I mentioned.
ek5932, that's right. The stock one may be faster, but for me, there are too many features in there I simply do not use and some I even never heard of.
As stated, I prefer light, fast, stable versions.
BsB was perfect, but unfortunately, he stopped developing. There are other chefs who picked up his work, but that's where the drain started.

Fast is a winner for me and the version I downloaded is much faster than the BSB rom. For the first time since I bought my diamond I am not regretting getting it

Hello all,
Since there are so many flavours of ROMs around, I decided to do a little test with some of them (in my opinion, the more popular ones).
For the test I used the following ROMs:
2.1 Eclair
BeHero 1.3.2
Legendary 1.3.5
aHero 0.6.1
aHero 0.7.1
aHero 0.8
Villain 4.0 beta 2
Villain 5.02
Villain 5.1
Villain 5.2
Villain 5.3
Villain 5.4
CyanogenMod for Hero 1.0
Defiance 2.1
Androbin 1.1110
Legendroid 1.0.1
NeoRom 2.1
Raidroid 1.1
SlideVillain 1.0.1 beta
VanillaEclair 1.3 NAS
---
1.5 Cupcake
Kimera 1.7 @ 768MHz
Also the following for benchmarking:
For 3D Performance
Qualcomm's "NeoCore" 1.9.18 - Measured in FPS
For 2D Performance
Softweg's "Benchmark" 1.03 - Measured by an internal score
For CPU Performance
Linpack for Android - Measured in MFLOPS
All the tests mean: The higher, the better.
The method of testing was the usual flashing, a couple of reboots to make sure every caching necessary was done and the average of 3 benchmark of each test.
----
Here are the results from this first batch of ROM's:

Also remember that this tests are solely to measure the 2D/3D performance of a ROM, what in no way can be used to measure if a ROM is better or worse then another. It's only for games and overall "snappiness".
Bye
Hey. Thanks for the comparisons. This is very useful.
I have always said that BeHero was the best 2.1 ROM. It is very quick.
Villian was always the slowest for me but had more 'fixes' and features (just as google voice search).
I am currently running Legendary 1.3.5 (the 'upgrade' to BeHero...), which is as good as its predecessor.

According to the post you replied to, it is not as good as its predecessor when it comes to OpenGL performance - I would say it comes at an overall third place in that list.
That said, I wonder whether this should be taken as a measure for performance of a ROM.
Does OpenGL affect performance of the entire device? Or just, as I suspect, those processes which can make use of it - some games perhaps?

Hi. Yeah I did read the post I replied to and saw that Legendary came 3rd. But in fact, well in my opinion it is a better performer than its predecessor contrary to the benchmark statistics above.
To me, it feels snappier. Though the stats. say differently.
Just like a car might feel faster than the car you previously drove, but in fact it is not... if that makes sense lol...

Hello,
I'm doing this tests for my own pleasure since I like measuring performance and I saw a good opportunity here and for the moment I have some spare time
Anyway, this tests compare the 2D/3D performance across the different ROMs available for the users in this forums. For some people this might be important, like for me, since I have quite a few games in my Hero. Also it's important for people that cannot stand "lagginess" or "sluggishness" (I don't have a clue how to spell that...) in your home screen and/or browsing the ROM
Added Androbin 1.1110 & Defiance 2.1
Villain 3.4
NeoCore (with sound): 24.6
NeoCore (without sound): 29.9
Softweg (GPU test): 120
Favour
Could you do me a favour and chuck in a 1.5 ROM just for a sense of comparison, such as mr.bang performance rom. Just want to see how much of a 'gain' we get in terms of visuals from the switch to 2.1 if any at all, thanks
You should add Kagu Droid with JIT to the test.

Could you pls add Villain 5.1 pls?
Hi,
I'm trying to add the most number of ROMs possible and about the cupcake version, it's not possible since NeoCore doesn't run
But yes, I would love to check the performance between them.
Re: [Benchmark] 3D/OpenGL performance across ROMs
Ahh thats a shame. In that case could legendroid be uploaded please, i can a few tests and i think it could beat behero!

Are you sure OpenGL is used outside of apps/games specifically written to make use of it?
