How do I change my location? - About xda-developers.com

On my profile I want my location to show up...how do I do this?? Not a noob when it comes to forums but I have looked all over! Tried searching but my terms were too generic no matter what I put in (plus I'm lazy). Can anyone help me with this?

There still seems to be a bug in the forum software. Normally you should be able to configure this in your UserCP (User Control Panel), but the menu entry for this group of settings does not show up anymore.
But you can use this link directly in order to adapt your settings.

you are abusing others will and ability to help
the fact that you are lazy isn't justifying that
in few last days there were about 6 threads about changing location
so get your lazy ass up and read

Whatever dude, I looked and did search. Maybe they should fix this bug and no one would have to ask. Oh and thank you Foo.

Windows Mobile Live Search on Today

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to redirect the WM Live Search bar on the today screen to search using Google or any other site OTHER than the WM Live search.
Would the require a registry edit...?
Thought it would be more handy for me to use a different search engine on the today screen other than the WM Live one. Sorry if this has been posted up already but I searched and had no luck.
I'm using Faria's Custom V1 Rom with WM6 by the way.
Thank you in advance!

lol sure did, we must all be in a good mood today. I'm not one for flamming, as I've been a stupid noob before, and sadly searching isn't an ingrained behavior in this generation. I know my kids are going to be googling before they can even speak, but that's not the case atm.
Try my change which is also listed in that wiki entry. It will allow you to have spaces in the search term.
Any way to change it to YouTube?

Can you please help? I keep getting a pop-up warning (with this and the original search string) that "There is no application associated with {search string}. Run the application first then open this file from within the application. (where Search string is as defined in reg plus text that is being searched for.
Can you help? I have tried opening this search string from within PIE and it works quite OK. But that does not solve the problem.
EDIT: I HAD SOME OTHER PROBLEMS AND DECIDED TO HARD-RESET. ISSUE SOLVED SO I GUESS I HAD SOMEHOW CORRUPTED THE REGISTRY. I SUSPECT THAT UNINSTALLING OPERA CAUSED THE PROBLEM.

You can either, create a referrals URL, so that you give this to your friends, and they join via the URL and you get a referral.
Or
When registering (I'm told) there is a field to enter the name of an existing member who referred you to this site.
Dave
I've wondered about that too.
Thanks for clearing it up.

You'd be surprised I tend to be less helpful when I try to be, so maybe I should just flame my way to the big 1000
PS: If you're not too busy, can you mention to the powers that be the idea of having your phone, ROM and radio in your username bar (the thing to the left of each post - don't know what it's called...). It was mentioned in this thread as it went a little off topic in the second page, but it seems to have fizzled out a bit.
I think it would be a very useful idea as a lot of support threads ask for such information and quite a lot of users would rather not keep it in their signatures. It also standardises the layout of such things so you can quickly check which phone/ROM/whatever the user is talking about.
I suppose the issues would arise when someone has more than two or three phones as it would make the posts longer, but even then it wouldn't get so bad until it hit around five devices, as it's just two or three lines for each one. Maybe a drop-down box could be used for the device and we could recommend only including primary devices in that, while keeping older ones for your signature only.

I could have sworn that at one point I'd been able to see who my referred sign-ups were, but I can't for the life of me find it now.
I've got 24, and although that's not a lot I'm a bit stumped as to how!
Is there a way to see who has signed up due to my referrals?

Poo. Ah well, cheers mate
Old thread, but wanted to post the method for creating a referrals URL since Dave's link above did not work..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/register.php?referrerid=4238197 <- replace this number with your user ID number
To find your user ID number, click on your user name in the upper right hand corner and see the new URL change in your location bar. Here is mine. Note the u= on the end.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4238197
Referrals doesn't seem to do anything, but it is nice to know that I inspired someone to join up and hopefully contribute.

[SOLVED]USBtoPC issue

ROM and radio in sig.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a registry key that sets the USBtoPC value for enabling or disabling the tickbox for "Enable faster data synchronization," or whatever it says. I'm trying not to reinstall the normal start menu to get to the setting as it isn't listed in Quick Menu for some reason, and I haven't been able to find the actual problem. It would be nice to be able to add this to XDA_UC for each new flash. (I think I have ORD)
Bump. Still having this issue. Someone please help!!
You're right -- it isn't in QuickMenu. It's somewhere in windows\mycpl.cpl6,6. Haven't quite got the correct string for a run... shortcut,
BUT
Mine is set to "Always ask", and here are the registry settings. Import/re-create manually, dis- and re-connect ActiveSync. The dialog box you want should pop up.
I haven't been fooling with the Windows Registry for 15 years for nothing. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply, but that isn't exactly what I'm looking for. In the USBtoPC application, there is a check box saying "Enable faster data synchronization." I'm using BirdieSync to connect to Thunderbird. I have to have this option un-checked in order to connect. I was just hoping that there might be a registry string that toggled this option so I could apply it and use it in the future in my XDA_UC folder.
Sounds like you want it set to "Always Ask" which presents the options screen to select type of connection. My settings should do just that. Have you tried them?

Your settings enable the pop-up notification when I connect to my PC. I already have it set that way. You can't access the checkbox that I'm talking about through the notification, though.
The first screenshot attached is of the notification window that you're describing. The second one is from tapping the USBtoPC link in the start menu. I'm looking for a way to have the circled checkbox UN-checked when I start up the device after a flash. I was hoping it might be something as simple as a registry string or something, but I was unable to find anyone with a related issue.
It normally wouldn't be a problem, but I can't use XDA_UC to set up Quickmenu for me because I can't access this setting unless I go through the normal start menu. It would be nice to be able to "set it and forget it" so to speak.
Sorry for not posting screen shots in the first place. I suspect that might have alleviated our mis-communication.
Until you posted the screenie, I wasn't aware there were 2 separate screens. I'll poke around the registry some more and see what I can come up with.
btw: Thanks for promoting me to senior member.

The second screen that is off limits with Quick menu is found via going to the normal start menu and selecting Settings-> Connections-> USBtoPC. I think that's the right path. I'm drawing from memory as I haven't used the normal start menu in ages.
As for the senior member comment, I had to give you credit for helping me!
Bump again.
There has to be someone here who knows something about this.
I'm begging!
I guess it's this:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\USBtoPC]
"EnableAdvanceChecked"=dword:0
Maybe it needs something else to be set, not sure

That isn't the one, but thanks for trying. I thought that was the one before I posted the question. I'm starting to think the setting is just a ghost or something. I'm going to leave this thread open for a few more days and cross my fingers. If not then I'll just continue to manually install Quick Menu, so I can hit that box before hand.

You WIN! Wow. It finally worked. The only key that needs to be changed is the first one, changing RNDIS to Serial_Class. I'm about to flash again to test out my new mortscript, and I'll see if dropping in this key fixes the issue too. I'll update when I finish.
EDIT: SUCCESS!!! I also found a packaged version of quick menu by colossus_r who has links to all of the settings that get lost when you move between start menus. A quick search for colossus_r start menu should turn it up. I'm going to go ahead and close this thread now. Thanks for the help!
I screw up with this
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\USB\FunctionDrivers]

I exported this with a registry toolkit, but this is completely wrong. It was either my fault or the tool has a bug. Nvm.
Yes, just changing the DefaultClientDriver to Serial_Class changes what you needed. The other keys are just in case that your favorite chef deleted them from the registry. I don't trust his skills.

how to see ur posts and threads??

hi all
the strange thing that saw here is that there is no option to see ur post&threads Or there is but i cant find it?
thanks.
I subscribe to any post I post in, with no e-mail notifications (you set this up in your User Control Panel). That way I can just go to my UCP and read any new posts in any threads I'm interested in, they'll all be listed at the top, if there are new replies. If the thread isn't there, there are no further discussions, but there's a button at the lower right-hand side of the thread list that'll take you to all of your subscribed threads. This is probably the easiest way to do it

Hi,
When I go on the User Control Panel and I click on Event Reminder on the left side of the page, I get a message saying that I might not have the privilege to view it, and it says it's some kind of developer page. I have no idea what it is, but why am I being restricted to view to the Event Reminder? Very weird, has anyone else got this problem?
