Upgrading ROM on a Sim Unlocked Dash - HTC Excalibur

I did some searching but didn't see the answer to my question.
My Dash has been acting funny lately and I've read a lot of good stuff about replacing the standard T-Mobile ROM with the one found here. My Dash is sim unlocked (obtained the unlock code from T-Mobile) and I currently use it on the AT&T network.
If I upgrade to one of the ROMs here (Kavana's ROM? Are there any better alternatives?) will I lose my sim unlock?
Thanks in advance!

I should also ask...will a hard reset keep the sim unlock as well?

I think it should, if not use the same code that TMobile Provided you with because that code is based on your phones IMEI.

Thanks a bunch! I just dug through my email and found that I still have the code from T-Mobile.

ive flashed my phone many times and its still sim unlocked

Cool that makes me feel better. Thanks!
Now to decide which ROM to try out...hmmmm...

Well, hope you will like the new rom, make sure to run connection wizard under the tools folder to setup your network connection.

I gave the vanilla HTC Brightpoint ROM out first and didn't much like the way it looked. So I gave Kavana's ROM out and really like it! Though my battery appears to be draining like crazy...the battery has been barely lasting a day and I was hoping a new ROM would help manage power better, but not so much. Oh well, guess I'll have to break down and get a new battery somewhere...
Kavana, if you happen to read this, thanks for building that ROM! It's awesome!

Or just get an extended battery, meaning that the battery will provide much more power since its bigger.

I ordered a 1000mah battery off of eBay yesterday. Unfortunately it's coming from Texas and there's a hurricane blowing in there...so we'll see how long it takes to show up.

8525 reverting back to ATT rom

I am interested in trying on of the cooked Roms on my ATT 8525, however I am concerned about converting back to the ATT rom. I would like to use the K's WM6.0 Lite FINAL from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350695
Can I just run the ATT WM6 install like I did when I upgraded from WM5? Or do I need to do something more complicated?
I am sorry for my newbishness, I do not do a whole lot with WM devices, I am mainly a server/pc/network tech.
Thank you for your help,
Gihzmo
it can be done pretty much exactly the same.
ive actually reflashed an att rom back onto a phone after having several roms, and sent the phone back to get it replaced with the warranty

install hardspl first, with that chances of you turning your phone into a brick dramatically reduces by a factor of 2854.23 exactly

Although you don't HAVE to install hardspl, i've never had a problem just doing safe softspl installs..
Thank you guys very much, im looking for the HardSPL download now and I am going to flash to K's WM6.0 Lite FINAL.

HardSPL is one of the greatest gifts, as XtreMe_G says. Actually I can't imagine not HardSPLing, why take a chance....
I paid $500 buckazoids for my 8525, with the 2 year. Explaining a "brick" to my wife (much less Cingular) when I had the means to not brick... I don't think so.
As a precaution, it's always worth reading MrVanx's Hermes Upgrade Guide
Thank you for your help, I got the new rom on the phone with almost no trouble. I had some issues with my direct push email. But I fixed that by removing the proxy that was set.
This is much, much faster then then the rom I was running before (ATT WM6 release).
The only other problem I seem to have is the weather doesnt seem to want to connect, I looked it up and figured out the code for my city (Danville VA USA) I used NAM|US|VA|DANVILLE
This works if you go through the Accuweather website, but it doesnt want to connect through the phone... anyone have any ideas? The phone goes out to the internet fine, getting email and browsing.
there is plenty of threads about this including this one

Broke me VZW XV6900

Just grabbed this XV6900 (VZW)...came with WM6.0.
I used 2.31.CoKe unlocker...then tried throwing OMJ.3.09.01.Custom.exe on there. It turns on and sticks at the HTC boot screen (since the ROM replaces the vzw one).
I have to take the battery out, no buttons are responsive, etc.
I can get to the bootloader screen.
Can anybody help me. I'm looking to upgrade to custom ROM to get WM 6.1 + I heard you can get aGPS working with like google maps and whatever.

Are you sure you know what you are doing?
Enter bootloader and reflash.
Before you do, make sure it reads "CoKe 2.31" on the bootloader.
Yeah, I know what I'm doing...I think I'm just getting some misleading info. I'm used to my Samsung i760.
The bootloader screen says CoKe-2.31, guess I'll try a re-flash with the same ROM.
Check back later...
Make sure you flash the Radio before flashing OMJ's ROM.
OK, I flashed it to Bell then pulled the battery out before custimazations took place. Now I'll try OMJ's ROM...
It's booting up nicely now...just won't connect to ActiveSync...lol.
You pulled the battery out? Why not just soft reset?
Was getting to be force of habit after all those bad starts...
Anywho..got it working with Bell ROM, installed Verizon's CAB...just trying to figure this phone out. Need to search on how to add my city to its' weather app, I don't see any 'cube'...this phone's gonna go up for sale real quick..
Forget the cube! Use Slither's if you really want the cube. Besides search some more, it's a device you will want to keep, trust me.

windows mobile 6.1 shuts off

a weird thing has been happening to me and my friends unlocked phones we had t-mobile dashes running a version older copy of kavana 6.1 and our phones always just shut off ar random for no reason at all mostly when on the internet but the weird thing that got me thinking it was either microsoft or t-mobile was doing a remote kill was the fact my friend was over and they both went off at the exact same time anyone else experience this weird event? well anyways i update my rom to the newest one not really using it though have a g1 now so im just asking
You need a new battery. That is all.
I recommend getting a new batttery, when this occurs most likely it is a faulty or used up battery...
It is the battery was doing it to me as well until I gotta new one. Make sure to get a good battery. I bought a generic one on ebay and it works but its buggy. Freezes a lot. would recommend htc battery. Btw there is a thread already on this topic please use search option next time.

Had the same thing happen here, my wife's battery started going on the same day as mine. I think the batterys have a very limited lifespan.

Yeah they do not tend to last long, especially if they are the stock batteries the phone came with.
Mine lasted for 7 months before I had to switch it out, not very good! Then again my dash is my one stop source of entertainment so it was used heavily.

Keyboard issue after upgrading to NFSFAN's current 6.5 ROM

Hey all. I've upgraded to NFSFAN's newest rom - which is really sweet!! - but I'm having an issue with the keyboard. I can only access it in landscape mode; whenever I push the tiny button in portrait mode (which is the mode I usually use), nothing happens. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sigh, sorry for this but same question for you as the other fella with "keypad" probs.
Do you have the HTC Vogue (CDMA version of the touch)?
this ROM may be generic (non-carrier specific) but it is meant for ONLY the Vogue.
IF you do have the Vogue, did you follow the reccomended upgrade procedure?
1. Flash the ROM from bootloader mode
2. Hard reset
3. Run your carrier GPS reg.cab UNLESS your with Bell Mobility
If not, reflash and follow the recomended procedure, it cures many "wierd" issues.
don't waste your money,
hold out for another month and get the diamond2-has micro sd slot,
or the touchpro2.

No kidding,
I'm waiting for them as well. Just want to "feel" both when their in store to decide. I carry my Vogue in my pocket and will probably continue with that.
To bad NFSFAN got the first gen TP. I know there was a "get NFSFAN a TP" fund going on in another forum. Don't know if that's why. He did mention waiting for an HTC phone with the tegra chip. I really want my next phone to be one NFSFAN has as well, tried LOTS of ROMS, play a while then go back to his!!
For 24/7 stable use there just ain't anything better.
Yeah, I guess that maybe I'll wait for the others to come out, then. I do like the Touch, but its screen is a little too small and it's not very fast....
Wow, I must say that I'm surprised to see the iPhone winning in this poll!!

Yeah, I hope to learn everything I can from him and his vogue roms.
When the necessary stuff comes out to build roms for a
cdma version of the touch pro2 I'll definitely be
spending 99% of my time on building a siiick rom for that.

Poor battery life...

Hello,
The battery life of my Z1 compact is very low. This only started the last month or so.
Are there things I can do to improve it?
I have been thinking of putting another rom on it, but not used to this anymore. A few years ago I did a lot (with my HTC Hero), but at the moment I don't have time to do this regularly (read: I was single on those days ). I can remember that there was an option in the recovery to whipe the battery stats, so maybe this can help me.
Then, is there a light yet stable rom out there?
Maybe you can give me also some guides on how to start with this: rooting, replacing recovery image and flashing a custom Rom.
Anyways thanks for your help.
Sorry if I made some mistakes, English is not my native language.
Bart.
This additional info can maybe useful:
Currently I am on Android 5.1.1 Build 14.6.A.0.368 ...
Most people have noticed that battery life on LP is generally a little worse than on KK, but usually stock rom battery life is pretty good, so if it's just getting worse suddenly, you might want to try an update, (.368 is not the newest fw), or maybe some changes you made are draIning the battery, or maybe the battery is old and needs to be replaced. Most custom roms are fine as far as battery drain goes, but most are not better than stock, so probably not a solution to the issue. Have you been using any battery - saving options, (stamina, Greenify, etc.)?
Are you using Pocket (readitlater)?
The new version of the app sucks alot of battery... =(

I have seen that there's a newer update (14.6.A.1.236). The problem with this is, when I try the update, the phone says there's no update for the phone. Is there a way to force the update?

I have been looking and found some local repair center, which can do it.
While it is still under waranty, I don't want to send it to Sony, as I expect to lose the phone for more than 3 weeks???
Anyways, big thanks for all your replies!

I found it pretty easy to replace the battery myself, but that will void the warranty so you might not want to do that if there is still significant time left to run on the warranty.

I'm pretty sure there are instructions in that thread, but otherwise there are various videos such as this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXemmPyIzUI
http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...l/best-stable-rom-battery-life-daily-t3367431
This is how i get most juice out of this xperia. 2 years old battery shouldn't have degraded more than 10%
I should have posted this. I have found some useful info about changing the battery (mainly youtube), and I already ordered a new battery and adhesive for the back cover.
Another question I posted earlier: is there a way to force update to version .1.236
