Hi all,
i just experienced a big problem when upgarding a ROM when the diamond is connected via a USB HUB with the PC.
The upgrade got stock at about 0% with various error messages.
SO ALWAYS CONNECT YOUR DIAMOND DIRECTLY TO YOUR PC WHEN UPGRADING.
See
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407408
for more details.
good advice - a bit of a no brainer really - USB hubs are known to stuff things up
Never had this problem, I always update with a USB HUB(self powered) between the diamond and pc....till now no problems

Hi all,
I have this particularily annoying problem that effects my ability to upgrade the rom files on my universal sometimes.
When I put my device into boot mode I don't see USB v1 or even Serial v1, what I get is Serial v2.01
Sometimes when I then connect the USB cable into the universal this changes to USB v2.01 and windows recognises the device and I can perform the rom upgrade. Most of the time however, it stays at Serial v2.01 and windows complains about 'USB Device Not Unrecognized'.
I have tried 2 different USB cables with the same outcome.
Normally after trying s few dozen times I eventually get windows to recognise the universal and perform the upgrade but I have been stuck like this for 3 days now and am getting close to my breaking point which will could shortly result in a broken universal.
Please help.
i cant quite remember the ins and outs but i have faced this problem as well
firstly ensure your connected directly to the computer and not via a hub,
try to do the upgrade if/when you get the message remove the device from the cable and do a soft reset
try the upgrade again and it should be successful this time .
i have had lots of trouble myself with this and i have found a soft reset always gets me there in the end.
goodluck !
I have just retried the upgrade and the display keep changing from USB to Serial about every 10 seconds.
I also noticed that the mouse kept freezing on the screen for a few seconds whilst this was happening. I tried using my other USB cable and the same thing was happening.
Does anyone else have v2.01 displayed on their screen like me?
Update: I stupidly ran Ivan's AKU3.2 upgrade utility whilst the universal was activesynced to my desktop (not in bootloader mode) and now this has executed the EnterBL.exe program which traps you in the booloader unless you upgrade a rom (or use mtty to issue the correct command to escape).
Unfortunately I can't excape via either of these methods as I still can't obtain a USB connection.
I have even tried a different PC but am still stuck.
Maybe both of my USB cables are knackered, so I will obtain another one and try that. If that fails it looks like Orange will be recieving a little parcel from me...
I have now also tried a 3rd USB cable with the same result.
I have a similar problem, I'm stuck in bootloader mode.
I have version 0.60 and if I put a USB in it keeps on saying serial and my computer says he doesn't recognise the device.
I've tried it on 2 different computers as on my new one apparantely all my usb ports are part of a hub. (they come up as all, inluding the ones in my moniter, being part of an usb root hub) But no succes on my other computer either.
I'm thinking that my only option is to do it via a memory card? Can anyone tell me how I'd go about that as I have no clue
Thanks!
Tim
Success!
I have been plugging in and unplugging my phone all day (with it still stuck in boot mode) and eventually it was recongised by my PC - I then upgraded the radio stack & ce rom and I am up and running again (I know that I could have used buzz's utility but I wanted to upgrade anyway).
The only thing that I did slightly differently this time was that I actually removed the battery from the univeral for a while and then plugged it back in before trying the USB connection. I did try this once of twice before without success though so can't really draw any conclusions apart from I don't know what is going on.
I hard-SPLled my device and unpreded ROM Miri v3.0 on it. After the upgrade the device could not connect to my PC via ActiveSync or Mobile Center.
I tried with several PCs, laptops and many cables.
It should be 'soft'ware, since the problem started after ROM upgrade.
So, I figured it was because of the ROM, so downgraded to official 6.1 ROM, but connecting is still not possible. The official ROM included bootloader, radio and OS, btw.
Now I am stuck with a device that cannot connect to any PC! I always get a message of an unknown device that connects, later on followed by a message of an unknown USB device.
And yes, tried to remove the speed-up of ActiveSync. Also tried as USB storage, but I get the unknown USB device all the time...
Please help, I don't know what to try now!
Try a different USB cable. Might be a good idea to buy a brand new one. They tend to go corrupt easily.

Have you tried using a differant usb port? I had to do that with a miri rom on my "old" Blackstone. I did have trouble with miri roms doing that on my Touch HD,for some strange reason.
You could also go to the threads in that forum and read what people have done to remedy that problem on the HD, as it should also work on our Tilt 2.
Later..............

try rebooting your pc, also try a different usb port on your comptuer and then try another usb cable. i have read somewere that some computers do not put out enough voltage on the usb ports, so this said, after you try the previous suggestions grab your cable and try another computer, after you install activesynce of course .
Thanks for thinking with me!
I tried several PCs, so, yes, different USB ports.
Also tried several cables that proved to be ok with other devices, including one ExtUSB cable.
Of cause resetted PCs before connecting and first installing ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Center (depending on OS: WinXP or Vista)
When connecting to USB connections that worked before now sometimes the Touch tells me there is insufficient power... That's strange too! It would mean the device needs more than 500mA in some cases (because it's the only device connection to the USB) - but this is on more USB ports of different computers!
So I tried everything qua hardware... Don't know what to do now.

Have you considered -- or tried -- flashing to a different ROM via the sd-card method? The method where you put the RHODIMG.nbh file in the root of your sd card (by removing card and using a card reader attached to PC), then put the TP2 in bootloader and it flashes the new ROM from the sd card...something like that?
I probably didn't describe this quite right -- I haven't done it myself -- but lots of people prefer this rom-flashing method. Find/check-out the procedure elsewhere on this forum.
If it works then maybe you'd get away from the problem-rom...if the rom is really the problem.
Dear Sirs;
Maybe this part of forum not be the proper place for my question but I don't know the poeple more expert than XDA masters.
Since last monday, computer cant recognize my Diamond when I connect it by USB cable and "USB device not recognized" appears. I will be really appreciated if you kindly help me.
Best Regards
Dariush Chegini
Try reinstalling Active Sync/Windows Mobile Device Center.
First remove Active Sync/ WMDC, restart PC and than install Active Sync/ WMDC.
Thanks for your kind attention. I reinstalled Activesync...no change, computer can't recognize the Diamond. My Diamond charges with both charger and computer, USB headphone works but PC can't recognize it....
I'm so confused and will be really appreciated if XDA masters help me.
Best Regards
XP or Vista or Windows 7 or which OS?
I've tried by both WIN XP and Vista.
could be a few possibilities for XP atleast...
activesync - file->connection settings->allow usb connections checked
faulty cable, try another one
faulty port on computer, try another one
driver issue - a difficult one...
i had this on my xp, found out there's something wrong with the cable - phone charging fine via computer USB, but XP says it doesn't recognize the device so doesn't connect to activesync....
good luck
Try on your Diamond -
Start>Settings>USB to PC
Unchek "Enable faster data synchronization"
If none of the above solutions work, maybe a hard reset...
I tried another cables, all options in "USB to PC", Activesync options, hardreset, even install other ROM but PC still can't recognize the Diamond.
It seems to be a Hardware problem but Diamond can be charged by USB and USB headphone works properly... I'm so confused .
Thanks Millions
Dariush

Try this in order...
1. Connect diamond to pc - it should at least charge as your say, but not detect Activsync
2. Goto Settings > Connections > USB to PC
3. Check Allow USB Connections > Uncheck allow fast data sync...
Does it connect?
if not and if you are using Vista
1. goto Windows Mobile device Center
2. check the attached image to see you have the same settings...
Does it connect?
if still not, then it could be driver issues, which I can suggest, once you reply to the above...
Thanx for your attentions. I've tried uncheking the said bottom but no change.
I used to connect the Diamond to the same notebook without any problem for more than 16 months, but the damn notebook stop recognizing my Diamond these days .
Thanks Millions
Dariush
may be usb port on your computer is malfunction. Did u try different usb port?
You need to open device manager in control panel to see how you diamond is listed.
Ever since i started with a new company 3 years ago they have some software that prevents activesync from connecting to any device I have from their computers using USB.
I went Bluetooth method and all is fine. I just use the USB for large, direct file transfer to internal storage.
If you get issues with activesync and usb and can take ages to resolve (if possible).
I guy's.
After a lot of search in this forum and a lot of other forum's, i came to this threat.
I had the same problem, my diamond didn't connect to my pc.
I had tried all the different suggestion, and nothing seemed to work. until i read the post of cloudedhopes, that suggested to change the usb cable. Because it was the only thing that i hadn't tried, i did change the cable, and it worked!
So i'm posting only to thank you guy's for all of the help, given not directly to me, but to all user!
I am using TP2 and just have the new build of Android.
After the Android run up , how can I get it connected to PC with USB ?
If you read the port status, USB data connections are not currently supported. Only charging is supported via USB.
thanks for your answers, got it.
Hey,
I have been looking on the internet for this for hours, no solution found, but found a lot of people with this problem.
My laptop (windows 8) only has USB 3.0 ports, no USB 2. Appearently it seems to be impossible to update a Sony phone via computer by connecting it to a USB 3.0 port. During the process, the phone shuts down automatically, and when it reboots, it is no longer recognized by the computer (it should reboot in flash mode, but it doesnt). I've tried both PC Companion and Sony Update Service, both give the same result.
The solution I did find on the internet was: try connecting via USB 2. I dont really have another computer available, tried it on someone else's laptop, which was a very old one, this gave me an error, probably because of other problems with the laptop.
My question is, is there ANY other way to make this update work via USB 3? And preferably a way that is understandable for someone with minor knowledge about the technical aspects involved
Thanks
My laptop has 3 USB 3.0 Ports and 1 USB 2.0 port. I've been always using my Xperia Ion with the USB 3.0 port and it works fine with flashtool as well. Try a different cable.

Oh... thats nice (for you). However, it doesnt work for me, with neither usb port, as is the problem for a lot of other ppl appearently...
I only have 1 cable, so cant try another one, the cable is not the problem though I guess. Since in all cases the cable works fine and the phone is recognized by the computer, except at the moment it should reboot in flashmode when reconnectint it to the laptop (during updating). Googling the problem yields alot of ppl having this problem, only nowhere a clear solution...
I've been trying to go through the update process for 10 times now, just doesnt work
