Less than 24 hours into the phone and not fully explored but ...
1. As discussed elsewhere, the Snooze and Alarm issues suck. No Snooze intervals. "Next Alarm" does not show.
2. Receipt of txt msg. does not light up the screen, but I wonder if this is merely a setting in sounds and notifications
3. Default browser in the tf3d tabs blows. Does not appear it can be reset to another browser.
4. Call list does not show pics of the callers that are saved with their contact information.
5. The threaded texts are ok and I suppose I will get used to it but I am not cool with seeing my own outbound texts show up in my INBOX with the designation "me".
I have NOT installed any of my spb products or other cabs yet. Just feeling it out. One of the greatest tweaks was reassigning the PTT to Voice Recorder and I am hoping to do that with the T2.
I will experiment with disabling tf3d soon enough and maybe that will resolve some of these issues.
Big thanks to the XDA crew for the tips, tweaks and cabs that helped me customize my original Tilt and I am looking forward to what you guys can do with the T2.
i kept the at&t rom on there for like 10 mins. i flashed a few different cooked roms, but settled on the offical htc 6.5 rom. very fast, stable, and much less bloatware. i would advise flashing a new rom asap, before u set up all ur preferences.
I also agree that you will be much happier on any of the custom roms, or the stock HTC rom.
Unfortunately AT&T loaded so much garbage onto the tilt2 that the phone is sluggish and just not fun to use.
Once you get a better rom.... you'll love the phone.

Well, I am still screwing around with it but I disabled TF3D and then installed SPB MS 3.5. I have not installed any of the MS tweak cabs though.
The screen clarity and the keyboard make it worth the price of admission to me. I think I paid 199.
Will flashing over the HTC ROM give me the keyboard issue that is mentioned in another thread? ATT has managed to set new records in crapware. On the Tilt 1 I could hard reset and soft reset, eliminating the crapware. Does that work on this T2?
I have to say, I've had no problems making the ATT one work for me. First, I purchased 16GB micro SD external storage. Started deleting all the extra misc files that come with the ATT, demo music etc.. moved pictures/albums off to external.
Then I've gone through and started throwing on some of the tweaks. Removed bottom bar, disabled internet push, increased Opera tabs, removed Opera from staying in memory, threw on some of the extra camera modes, and hit up some of the common reg edits.
I've had no problems with the phone's performance now. Fast as ever. The Opera in memory was the largest performance upgrade since I saved about 10% memory.

The phone works ok; no "problems" just preference issues.
How did you take Opera out of memory? For a 10% boost in device memory I'ld do that, even though I also typically run with a 8gb card (which I have not put in yet...and how freakin wierd to have the slot where it can not be quickly accessed!)

First I disabled Push Internet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948
install the NoPushInternet_v2.CAB
Second I forced Opera to close upon exiting instead of minimizing (taken from tweaks sticky)
* Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System
* There delete Opera9.exe (now it will show in the task manager)
* Go to: HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\TerminateProcess
* There, create a DWORD with the name Opera9.exe value "1"

If I find, download, and use the official HTC 6.5 ROM, would this:
A: Void warranty?
B: Remove any software, ect that would handicap my Tilt 2 in any way?

Yes you will have the keyboard issue. But installed the keyboard cab fix and you're set to go. I'm using it and works great.
No, the hard/soft reset wont eliminate crapware sadly. You need to go to another ROM. Trust me, you wont look back.
why does everyone say that their screen doesn't light up when the get an SMS? Is Tmobile the only carrier that kept this feature in, because mine lights up every time.
if you don't like the threaded SMS you can disable it with Advanced Config.
Hi All
FYI - A new upodate available at HTC for SEA non-branded TP2's.
ROM Version 2.07.707.1
Manila Version 2.5.20121225.6
http://www.htc.com/sea/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=250&act=sd&cat=all
This one updates to a new version of Sense Ui and other stuff.
Impressions?
1. No Task Manager that can be utilised from the Home Screen (so how to change apps..?).
No Task Manager also means you can't readily see how much RAM is being hogged by the system.
2. No missed calls provision on Home Screen either..?
You do get the small icon on the top bar, a pop-up message AND the LED (green) actually flashes now - had to hack it before to do that.
3. Perhaps it's just mine, but to me the proximity sensor does not work now - it used too.
4. The shortcut Icons are stupidly large (3 per row).
5. The Programs Tab has been removed - this is a drag as the WinMo Programs area is still not dragable (just a go to the top option).
6. The Music Tab seems to now work better - at least it shows Album Art correctly now!
7. There's a Twitter Tab- not that i use it.
8. Calendar works differently.
9. Older Opera than current.
10. Older Google Maps than current.
11. It seems to be way louder than before too, both thru speaker and earpiece on a call - yay!!
12. The People Tab has changed to the new style - good.
13. FYI, SRS W0W (Sector HD2 version) still sends this version into no wakeup from Stand By mode - Damn!
13. New start animation (HTC-Simply Brilliant).
14. New background animations for Screen and Lock Screen.
15. Still can't believe that a Note file is not finger scrollable (WTF), yet Word is....
16. I have a sneaking suspicion that the battery life has taken a hit too, but unconfirmed at this point.
Lots of other changes to the UI, too numerous to make a big list.
In one way it is an improvement, although (to me) there have been a couple of backward steps, but overall, seems to be good.
One final thing, with this new UI - to me at least - it makes the scren look a little ...smaller.
Cheers

wow, they give us sense 2.5? how generous...lol
but seriously, no task manager? how is the package overall? snappy or slower than 2.1? my old 6.5 upgrade is running sweetly at the moment, but this update is tempting

Still unsure, early days.
I have some doubts that the battery life will be as good with this new update, but time will tell. It does seem a little less glitchy when using, the Home Screen seems a little overcrowded though with 2.5.
Still really don't get the no Task Manager thing, how the hell do you multi-task if you have to go through a menu series of hoops to reinstate the underlying programs that are still open.
With that, if they can't be triggered off with an X option (like on the previous versions' TM) they will all just bank up till your RAM says goodnight or you need to go into the bog standard old TM to turn them off.
Maybe I am missing something here, but this is a major oversight....
Also, as above, the no Programs Tab, means you need to use the WinMo Program list and with no real way to put things where you want them (just the Move to Top option) seems kinda dopey too.
Cheers

This is the interface that the HD2 got, am i right? do they new weather animation thats different than sense 2.1?
As for the no task manager, that is totally weird. You might want to write to HTC customer service about that and see what they come up with. I personally think its stupid to exclude the task manager though.
For the start menu, i usually us Joe Wilcox's awesome start thing because i cant stand the honeycomb layout. I thought it was just a mess, and one thing for sure, i never use the start menu. I just put the program tab straight up next to my home tab. So, again, i think its stupid that they got rid of the program tab as well.
How was the opera? you said that it was older right? well in the 6.1 official upgrade it was smooth when i scroll up and down on it, in yhe official 6.5 it just lags and not smooth, although the page renders perfectly. How's the opera scrolling in this package?
thank you for your response though
Move to ROM section
Would be good to move this thread to ROM section so more members can see it
AWESOME!!!
Even if Opera is older, actually renders touch.facebook.com alot better than previous releases (ie when ya tap a picture it shows up)
Google Maps 4 loads probably 3 times quicker on this rom than the first official SEA WM6.5
You can tell it to update weather and location on a schedule!! Yay!
It supports turning the ringer down when ya pick up the device, and has a pocket mode that makes it ring louder
It integrates the HTC messaging so ya dont see the ugly MS SMS app anymore
With this ROM, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a TP2 to my non tech savvy friends.
First impressions: I'm more excited than when I first got my TP2! Now to test Coreplayer and xVID AVIs (which where fine with 6.1 and not the 1st 6.5)

To the above, yes the Home Screen weather ani is there, but it was the first thing to go - seen it once and after that it just messed with resources.
The same with the annoying uber-flipping clock, maybe good on the HD2 but not so on the TP2 where it tended to be a little laggy and buggy in motion.
I added the X Touch Task Manager back in and now it is as it should have been from the start - much better.
For the Programs Tab, i grabbed Cookies Cab that did some neat stuff, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625483. The only down side with this is, as i've just discovered, is that you wont have a landscape Home Screen with the keyboard out...?
I did not really use Opera, just updated it and Google Maps straight away to the latest versions.
Overall, i think it is smoother, a little less laggy and well worth a look.
Did i mention it was louder too?
(I used the Audio Para tweak, but now do not have too)

I have the same question, too
Contacts & Messaging sucks
While I can agree with some of the improvements that they have made, both contacts and messaging has been screwed up, a big mess.
Often one of this makes the phone hang and should say that I have reset the phone on more occasions in the last 2 days than I have done it in the last 6 months.
Missing feature of Task Manager from the task bar and the Program Tabs are a big let down.
Damn I am now waiting to get the next release, if we will have one.
anybody knows how to cut the RAM usage down at the start? my old official Sense 2.1 managed to started up at 42 % RAM after the resproxy tweaks and no push internet tweak. It seems that in this ROM those tweeks seems to do nothing, After i did the tweak on this Sense 2.5 ROM, the it starts up at 47%.
Anything new then? Plus there seems to be new entry in the resproxy registry called maxsharememsize or something like that. Should we put that to 0?
Does anyone encountered the standby of dead issue in this rom? I have this problem when the first time i lock my phone and go to standby mode from the fresh boot up and it just wouldn't wakeup after i press the power on button. It seems the solution is to wait a little bit longer after you lock your phone then only switch the phone off. I have not seen this problem in previous official sea rom.
i am now seriously considering switching back to the official sense 2.1
why?
1. The resproxy and no push internet tweak doesnt work. My Ram shot >70% after a day where i use all the feature (twitter tab, album, music, lock screen etc)
2. The messaging app is just...bad. It lags and not responsive sonewhat. Plus after a soft reset it reads the sms that i have in inbox as coming from my sim card contact rather than phone contact. Glitchy.
3. It seems pretty quick after a hard reset, but after all the contacts is in and weather updated + software and such, the home screen and the whoke experience started to lag.
overall i think they should just keep the 2.5 to the HD2 i guess. Our TP2 just wont cut it...
Hi jabberoo, how do you get back the X Touch Task Manager back?
shortly after applying this ROM, my TP2 fell of the window sill and bounced off the bench into the sink
Its away getting insurance quotes, etc. Having to rely on my Dopod 838 Pro. Yuck...
overall, this new official ROM is far much better than sense 2.1 altho u have to be a lil'conservative on opening programs. One feature I still can get to work perfectly...the FB photo albums on contacts. Not a single pic that I've seen appear on the album, eventho they did show the respective album names and number of pics inside.
Does it Have Vietnamese roms?
Do you think HTC SEA have vietnamese language? how do you switch to another language in HTC WM 6.5.xx?

Hi
Not sure of the question here...
You grab the "Touch X Taskmanager.cab", install it, go to settings/system and configure it, voila....!
I found the "Touch_X_Homescreen_Flip_clock_OFF.cab" is good too, getting rid of the unneccessary flipping action which becomes irritating after a short time, the "Touch_X_Left_softkey_as_camera.cab" is worthwhile too, instead of doubling up for Phone or using a quick link space for it.
Hope that helps...
BTW, the Mods to expand the Quick Links (HD2 tweaks) are all useless at this point, handy but useless, as they break Landscape mode with the Keyboard in the out position.
I am still finding that a GPS lock using TomTom can take several minutes to execute on this ROM, so no improvement there. It does work well, just can sometimes take a while to lock (but eventually does...)
Cheers to all
Jabberoo
I had noticed that with the Facebook Albums, too. I'm going to lodge a thing with HTC once I have my phone again...
As for the GPS lock taking several minutes: I get that with a brand new TomTom Go 750 if I travel to a different location with it off, then turn it on. I used to think the TP2 was a POS in that regard, but when the TomTom did it I thought that maybe it wasn't specific to the TP2.

Never had this issue with the ROM.
I tried to utilise SRS WOW (which is great) but this Standby issue was the end result on the TP2 (any ROM), which was a shame....

Greetings All,
Well after 1 1/2 days of searching with no help or guidenance from anyone, (Sorry but alittle annoyed that no one likes to help, but I'll get over it) I managed to wrap up a hotfix for our SMS problem with lagging and not beng able to txt. I am currently testing this to see how it is working, and so far, on an install level it went without a hitch.
This is not a fix for a noob, I STRONGLY suggest noobs do not attempt this hotfix, I am not responsible for bricking, crashing, loss of data, or frying of your phone! I assume no responsiblitly and if you attempt this you are doing so with knowing the risks that come with this!
Now since that is out of the way:
This hotfix is actually the last hotfix for the HD2 that was dated 1/24/2010. As far as I know the last fix corrected the issue of being able to txt while the thread loaded in the background, and since Seppi the good soul came up with migrating the fix to tp2 but was a much older version (1.5.2011.2130) I decided I wasnt waiting for HTC and decided to take their HD2 hotfix and do the same thing Seppi did and here it is.
HotFix Compatability:
All 2.07.40x Manila 2.5 Roms. NOT COMPATABILE WITH ANY PRIOR OR FUTURE ROMS. All Languages Supported.
You Have to turn off Manila by going to Settings/All Settings/Today/Items and pick windows default. Also make SURE HTC messaging is not running or the hotfix will not install.
It will ask you to install either on the Device or SDCard. MUST BE INSTALLED ON DEVICE.
Fixes: (2)
1) Fixes the SMS lag we all have been dealing with and not being able to type as the whole thread loads. Now SMS's load in background.
2) So Far fixes the loss of contact picture, this is due to a resetting of the phone and associates SMS's to sim card and loses association with phone contact.
Known Bugs: (3)
1) Same as in the HD2 at times the screen when rotating from landscape to portrait might mix up the last line where the last line and the one above it merge, going back to landscape corrects this. Does not happen from portrait to landscape.
2) All prior SMS's might not associate with the corresponding phone contacts.
3) This MAY reset your MMS settings and will need to re-enter MMS info. based on your service provider. You can reach this by tabing to Msgs/All msgs/Menu/Settings/Options/Menu/MMS Server. Select SampleMMSC to change your settings Manually.
Or going to Settings/All Settings/Connections/Connections Setup and going through the wizard again.
Notes:
I have attached two files, One is a direct install with no way to uninstall it, this is how I have it setup and is working. The other file has an uninstall feature incase of anything can be removed. I have not tested the one with the uninstall feature to see if it would work that way, but Your free to test it out.
To know if the hotfix has been applied, to go Msgs/All Msgs/Menu/About if successful, your app build should be 1.5 (Build 2011.3631) The original version on the TP2 was Build 2011.3831.
Any comments good or bad Feel Free.
75 Views and no one has anything to say? Gee wonder about that one.
And no one willing to try it huh? Well I can tell you this much it has made a difference so far, and it seems it might have fixed two POSSIBLE problems as well:
1) I have no SOD as of yet since doing this, even with weather animation.
2) No screen going black while typing or right after hitting send.
What can I say... If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
Others who have this problem might chance it but since I don't I'm not gonna stuff up a stable phone just to see if it breaks it....

Oh it's broke alright. I haven't looked in these forums in a while. I gave up waiting for somebody to get a fix for this but I was curious and decided to take a peek in here to see what people are up to. The reason "it ain't broke" for some people is because they either don't have much sms volume or they clean out their inbox on a regular basis. For those of us who have a large volume of sms and don't have the time to clean out our inbox, it's definitely broke.
Anyway, you don't know how happy I am to see this fix! Thanks so much. I'm going to try it and I'll report back.
One question though...You say it's for manila 2.5...I'm not real fluent with the whole manila speak so I'm not sure if this will work on my phone. I've got a att tilt2 with the stock 6.5 rom running spb mobile shell. Will this update work on my phone?

Explanation: People like me see the title and wonder: "What's this?". So I click on it and see it's a solution for a problem that I don't have and haven't even heard of...so I have no comment on it. There's no big mystery about it nor any reason to take it personally.

The Stock 6.5 that came with your phone is WinMo 6.5 Manila 2.1, it will not work with this version I do not suggest it at all. This version is for anyone who HardSPL-ed their phone and are using any of the generic HTC Roms without any Service Provider Bloatware. I would Add Customized Roms to the list but I think most Customized roms removed the 2.5 msging app from their cooked roms.
MCbrian
The people who dont have this problem either are using stock Roms from providers that have the 2.1 version of the app which didnt have this issue, or are people with the New Roms that are not heavy sms users, Or are using cooked roms without the 2.5 manila app in the rom and have reverted back to the WM msging app.
BTW FYI HTC didnt make the new msging system, its a 3rd party app, originally made by Jataaya, but was bought out by a company in india called ComViva which actually makes the app I believe.
Hi
Just installed the fix: looks like now SMS application has much better options, it just works better. I restored 500 messages, as for now it works smoothly. No hung after sending message. I'll test it for few more days, but even now I can say it fixes the buggy app!
And quick question: bulid version of the fix suggest it is 'previous' version (3631 instead of 3831). How is it?
and regarding SOD: had it 3 times already since instaling hotfix, but it is not rather related to hotfix. Just want to tell that hotfix doesn't fix SOD...

Glad to hear it fixed your problem. Question, did you use the uninstallable cab or the direct cab?
The reason for the version difference again is that HD2 software versioning is different then TP2, HD2 jumped from 2031, where The stock TP2 6.5 Manila 2.5 had the 3831 Being that its from HD its the same app but different build #'s.
And thanx for the feedback and about the SOD being the only one who was using it and not having the issue anymore I thought maybe it had something to do with the fix, but thats why I said POSSIBILITY cause being the sole user I had nothing else to go on.
Glad I made a difference. Thanx.
I used version with uninstall option. After another day of testing I confirm it fixes the most annoying behaviour of HTC SMS app. Sad that many people complain about the bug, not many want to try the fix- just look at the threads...
Regarding SOD: I contacted HTC service, they advised to upgrade the firmware (that's why I had to test the hotfix), now they say I have to 'repair' the device. I'll try. My company uses more than 40 TP2s, I am the only one who enocounters SOD. Maybe it is really broken...
Once again - thanks for the fix!
OK, I've installed the un-installable version, so far it seems to work well - the HTC messaging has never run so quick.
I'll keep an eye on it over the coming days.
much more smooth now! thanks!
Agreed, I also installed the removable version and it seems to work all ok, certainly much better than before!. This maybe a coincidence but when I flick through my picture album now (full screen images), sometimes it takes 2 or 3 'flicks' to get to the next image, don't remember it being like this before. It could be that the images are about 4mb a file, hhmm, will have a look at this.

The SMS Hot fix does not change any files that have to do with HTC Album, so it either is coincidence, or you were not aware of it before. But I assure you the two are completely unrelated.

I just installed it on two us t-mobile hd2's. One is the orignal rom and the other is the updated rom. Both are responding much better to sms. The new rom is working almost perfect 99% better than it was. The orignal rom has 85% ish increase in speed so I would say that this cab is very much worth the install.
Thanks for you work.

Anyone? It seems no one will ever comment on the posts I make at their forums? I am testing cyanogen 7.1 out for a bit.
Some background info. Doubled wiped everything except sdcard. downloaded a fresh cyanogen 7.1 and flashed it. I have the GPS fix, and the gapps thing flashed with tiamat 4.0.8
So can someone tell me how to either fix this or why it does this?
This is a huge dealbreaker.. It compresses whatever photo i try to attach and it losses quality of the picture... I like the stock android and having to use handcent to send my mms seems like a *WTF* should i do this moment...
Apps like Handcent and Go SMS are better than the stock messaging app anyway. Why would you be willing to throw away the entire ROM over the messaging app when you can use more powerful messaging apps that don't compress the image AND have more customization options?
I've used stock CM, Handcent and Go SMS. By far my favorite one is Go SMS. Way better than the one that comes with CM.
I have used them both. I dislike them. Its just the feel. And the popups I just dislike the whole thing even after i messed with the settings to get rid of what i dont like. The options arent there and i do dislike them.. Also it wont send multiple split messages it freezes my ability top send messages and i need to reboot my phone....
And the Messaging app isn't the only issue.
Btw not my first or second time using CM either..

Huh? I don't get any pop ups whatsoever on mine. Not quite sure what you mean. And what options are you looking for? Out of all the ROMs I've tried CMseems to have the most flexibility and most customization options. What exactly are you looking for in a ROM? Handcent and Go SMS also provide more flexibility and customization options than the stock messaging app. Let me know what you're looking for and maybe I can point you toward a ROM that fits.

Its not that I'm looking for felxibility i just want to get my mms to stop sending at low resolutions.
It may be the user agent but every one of them makes me receive a pic at 8XX by ^XX resolutions..
I just want the stock one to have correct mms. And preferably a mms with a user agent for my phone or a equivalent phone. I have been searching for days and no one seems to post a fix. All the fixes seem to be for tmo for what i can find :/
Well I understand that you want your stock messaging app to work properly. However, I don't know a means to directly resolve the problem. Test with Handcent/Chomp SMS/Go SMS, reflash your ROM/kernel, update your radio, wimax, nv, etc., and if worse comes to worse....completely unroot your phone back to bone stock. Seems ridiculous that something that drastic is needed to fix your issue. But I did that as a last resort for my phone and it fixed my 2 month long SMS/MMS issue that I had been having.
Here OP try this. Is splits and the limit is big

Work out for you?
Hello,
Currently, I have two GS2 (i9100 and T989) and a GS3. The problem is that only the T989 works on my data plan (T-Mobile USA 1700/2100MHz HSPA+)
So, now, I'm looking for a phone that combines the speed of the i9100 and GS3 with the AWS frequency support of the T989. The T-Mobile branded GS2 is rather laggy during important tasks (mainly SMS). If I want to send a text in a thread with a long history, the phone lags very badly. Even opening up the SMS app lags that phone. I don't have these problems with the two Exynos based phones. Archiving SMS messages is very important to me, so I can't delete them and need a phone that can handle long threads without massive lag.
How is the Galaxy Nexus at handling lag? I don't really play any intense games (and I'd have the GS3 for that if needed) so really I'm mainly looking to avoid SMS/browser/Gmail/UI lagging.
Additionally, I take pictures a lot. I know the camera on the Nexus is lower, but I've heard that it's about the same quality as the GS2. If that's true, I would be fine with 5MP.
Also, I see a lot of people complaining about factory defects in their phones in this forum.. How bad is the screen burn in issue?
If anyone has used a T989 in the past, how does the GNexus battery life compare?
tl;dr version:
* I need a phone that doesn't lag
* I have really, really long SMS threads
* I like taking pictures. Will I be okay with the Nexus camera? (coming from GS2)
* Should I get the Galaxy Nexus?
Thanks to anyone who can help!
Well, if the GS 2 is laggy (Which it really is, I had it myself), then flash SensatioNROM, that's the best ROM you'll find for the GS 2 and install Siyah, or Darknight kernel...
So much for the GS 2, to the Nexus, only buy this, if you don't mind having no buttons (I'm regretting it) and buy it, if you want to be the first of your friends, to have Android "Jelly Bean", which will be Android 4.1, coming out in the autumn months (For americans, the "fall"), and generally, only get the GNex, if you want PURE Googleness, which I'm also starting to regret, that's why I'm porting TWiz 5.0 to the GNex... But anyways... I'll give you a quote, from a film, 80% (at least) of this forum know:
I can only show you the door. You must go through it.

This is a quote, that I have been using for quite some time, now.

Well, I can only use a phone with AWS (1700MHz) as my main phone. The i9100 doesn't lag for me.. but the T989 does.
And I'm fine with software buttons. In fact, I think it's better..
Mainly, I'd like to know how the Nexus performs in terms of lagginess compared to i9100 and T989.
I really can't comment compared to the other phones, but the Nexus is perfect for tasks like what you mentioned, I prefer to use ChompSMS for all my texting needs, but I did use the stock Messages app and it handles just fine (even with 400 texts per convo), Gmail runs fine, and is really smooth, browsing is probably the best you can get at the moment (Try Chrome), and overall the UI doesn't lag at all for me. Even when it's 100% stock, it is still really smooth.
I highly recommend this phone, and I think you will be very happy with it
Any phone will get laggy with long sms threads. it uses a database, which get exponentially more taxing to open /w more data.
get sms backup (wise shark software), set it to sd-card only (gmail feature is kinda unreliable) ...it automatically adds sms messages to text files on your sd card, each phone number has its own text file and messages get added to the end of a file with a timestamp and arrow indicating whether they were incoming or outgoing. It should be noted that restoring /w this is worthless too, the restore feature does not work like you would expect and there is no real reason to restore anyway as you allready have all of them searchable and archived. make sure you check "auto-backup", it has allways worked perfectly for me. Also, dont delete the database (.db) file in the smsbackup folder, this is how the app keeps track of what sms have been backed up and which havent.
Next get agrep from the play store and pick the smsBackup directory as a search directory.
to view the text files (as they can get quite large), get jota which can open very very large text files.
Finally, i personally move all the text files out into a different directory on the first of every year into another directory called SmsArchive /w the folder structure (add this folder to agrep's search folders)
SmsArchive>Year>text files
Now you can backup every single sms you ever get while being able to search through them without bogging down the internal sms database.
again, the SMS backup app is kinda weird but I have searched to the ends of the earth, and as far as I know this is the only app for any platform that does this, let alone does this reliably.
Well the only laggy thing I have seen is the lwp. Most lag really bad.

For taking quick pictures I love the instant responsiveness of the Nexus out of the box.
Its so fast I often take dozens of photos and just delete the ones that aren't 'perfect' (like any photographer does).

I'm glad to hear that! However.. I'm looking at more like ~3000 messages per thread than 400. Hopefully it will be okay.

Hmm.. I've used two SMS backup apps in the past: SMSBackup+(Jan Berkel) and SMSBackup/Restore(Ritesh Sahu). Have you tried these two apps? If so, why did you like Wise Shark's app more? I'd like to know a little more about it if you have time, cause it is $5. Thank you
I like it more because it automatically pushes any new sms messages to the end of an existing text file on the internal storage, /w a text file for each number.
It seems to be the only good solution for a "long-term archive" of text messages, I don't like it when the backup apps tie a name to the number, numbers are static and never change but what if you misspelled a persons name and correct it?...after years of that kind of stuff it turns into a disaster.
I also chose it because I'm a linux nut...text files are the most simplistic type of file this can be put into (next to csv, but csv loses "human readability" in exchange for limited import/export ability), you DON'T want a database for years of sms messages, a database like that will give your computer a run for its money depending on the database structure. Take the simplicity of a text file and add it to the enormous power of grep (and if you wanna get really nerdy, regex) and you can search literally decades of sms messages with very little cpu power/memory in seconds.
It should be dualy noted that I also use rsync to sync my sms-archive (via mobile network) every day to my home-server, at which point a cron-job encrypts it, renames it to the current date/time-stamp and sends this file to dropbox. I backup many other files on my phone and other computers with this method too.....go ahead and make fun if you like
I also try to keep my own data...if you trust gmail for your sms backup, what would you do if something happened to gmail? I like to have my data in a tangible form that I can backup/edit/use without crossing my fingers and relying on the competence of another party.
tl;dr version - simple and portable files that can be read on anything and searched with open source tools, no messy database, its the most simple type of file data like this can be stored in. its also the only app for any phone/platform that I have ever found capable of this, at least without saying "F*^$ it" and making my own app.
So, I decided to buy it!
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions
Some first impressions:
* amazing feeling in hand.. this phone feels great to hold without a case
* updated itself to 4.0.4 automatically..? Saved time; but a warning would have been nice before using up like 60MB data.
* that really nice button glow effect disappeared after 4.0.4 update
* so far, browser performance is amazing, definitely better than the T989
* the LED hardware acts a little weird.. only activates sometimes
* black blobs under the screen.. but I hear that 90% of these phones have this issue
* keeps switching between "3G" and "H." These are the same thing, no?
I'm getting worried hearing about so many people having problems with their phones in this forum...
But so far, asides from some minor problems, the Galaxy Nexus seems like the right choice for me
3g and h (hspa) are indeed the same thing, can't say why they switch randomly though.
As far as all the people with problems with their phones it may be worthwhile to bear in mind that people are much more likely to post if they have problems than if they have none. I personally have no complaints about the phone, in fact I love it, and won't be starting a thread called "omg I love my gnex, it's perfect"
Sent from my Cyanogenmodded GNex
I too have had no problems with gnex. I'm on 4.0.4 stock and its smooth, fast and reliable.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
It's good to know many people have no issues! I hope I won't have any major problems.. :x
Anyone know what's going on with the notification LED though? Is it normal for it to only activate like 50% of the time?
And is it worth asking for a replacement if you have the black blobs under the screen?
3g and h (hspa) are indeed the same thing, can't say why they switch randomly though.
I believe that h shows with an active data connection. When it shows 3g, should be an idle connection.. Dont quote me on that lol but remember reading something bout it..
