Confused about all the different roms - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Ok, so help me out and all the other people who are in the same situation as i am.
There are so many different roms that i dont know which one is the one to use.
All i (we?) want is one that is fast, very fast
With some extra memory available.
And is stable.
At the moment i see some official roms
the Elite 2.0
Surface
TLR Diamond ROM 2
(and more?)
What is the one to go with?????
Share your opinion if you tryd 2 or more of them.
And what should we be looking for when picking one.
Thank you in advanced!

The Bepe beta rom is the fastest rom I have ever seen on Diamond.
You should give it a try

i am using the latest official dutch one from htc. it is really fast, you can even increase the speed a little more with the tweaks. and offcourse it is in dutch

Each of the ROMs is built upon a philosophy, and the best way to figure out which one is best for you is trying them. Personally, I've chosen for the TLR2 Rom, because I like that it keeps things as if they were stock, and the autoupdater in it is a gold idea.

Here number two.
Absolutedly advicable.
Phone is well, what I expect from it now. 100% usable
TLR was ok, but version two was not a succes. Bit sluggish now and then, hangs a bit, got screwed up
(I installed .Net on dutch rom afterwards, version 3.5. Its even better then!)

[BENCHMARK] - LVSW vs. WM Black 1.1 vs. WMXL 0.2

Hi Everyone,
To give xda lovers an idea on the performance characteristics of the most popular 3 WM6 releases, i have just spent the last few hours doing a benchmark using SPB.
The test set up was:
1. OS Flash only
2. No additional Apps after fresh Hard Reset (except SPB Benchmark)
3. Imate Jasjam HT647
4. Main test completed only (no storage card or battery life)
The results speak for themselves (the highest achieving score is marked in red)
EDIT: I forgot the Vanilla ROM. Will update tomorrow, time for sleep, its 5am GMT+10. and only 5 hours sleep in the last 2.75 days.
Thanks,
I know everyone was looking for something like this. Now I know I choose the right OS flavor
Excellent work!!! the dark side wins! wow... maybe I should try it after all
I have a request for all rom cooker and publisher:
PLEASE, once relased a rom, write in the FIRST post:
All possible information about used memory at HR (RAM & Programs).
All reg tweaks included
All external programs installed
Other tweaks like video drivers etc.
All new issues resolved (like VoIP & others)
Someone has done it, someone not. Please post yours cooked rom in this way, so we all can do the right choice, in base at our necessity.
regards
Every time I think I have seen just how resourceful this group is someone comes out of the woodwork and does the yet another thing to surprise me.
(That and a friendly act of one-up-manship )
Many thanks i've been wondering if there was much difference in the speed of the ROMs, now i know. Does any one know how the WM6 ROMs compare to WM5 ROMs speeds?
Yeah - the results do speak for themselves. In my humble opinion, they demonstrate that there is almost nothing to choose between the ROMs in this test because the differences are really tiny. I wonder if you'd even get the same results if you ran the tests a second time?
Thanks for running the tests - interesting stuff!

Sanity! A valuable exercise, but no meaningful difference. Is there en equivalent table for some WM5 ROMS? I keep hearing that WM6 is quicker.
The tables we saw for the different WM5 roms (especially comparing the stock TyTN rom with the south africa and AKU3.3 test roms) were VERY helpfull and the differences were quite noticeable (stability-wise aswell as speed), the WM6 comparisons are all pretty much the same, did the Vanilla rom get a mention at all??
Once we see a full Hermes WM6 rom (from iMate, HTC, Dopod et all) cooked for LVSW,Black or WMXL i predict we may see a noticeable difference from these current ones.
Good thread
What's really frackin kewl about this whole thing is
1. All the roms kick arse.
2. We have a WM6 ROM
3. Have multiple WM6 roms to choose from
4. Start @ 1. and repeat
Don't you just want to laugh! XDA LIVES and it is livin in WM6!
now i personally havent tried any of the wm6, as me and a few others are currently cooking a rom with PTT, i cant go without this feature so i am being patient... I have loaded a few up on my test phone, but havent fully given them a test drive yet... so im not putting anyone or any rom down with this comment, but its something you must realize... fastest doesnt necessarily mean its the most stable. and even if you find one that is stable with your apps doesnt mean its going to be stable for the next guy, its all trial and error
LSVW seems to be the one that runs the most stable without issue and pretty speedy
WM Black runs the fastest, but most unstable for me. Maybe it just the applications I installed having issues. I will works on it again tonight. (After 5 flash......)
WMXL 2.0 has really good features and runs pretty stable too, but somehow it runs slower than other two. A very good custom ROM.
Again, I am not a preofessional give a fair overview. This is just my experience with all 3.

i completely agree with you...i tried all three and lsvw seems to be the most stable
Same OS, the test results didn't show any significant different..........just a little bit.
It will be better and perfect test ,if u compare with WM5.
Thk
Hi guys,
the benchmarks I did last night for the 3 roms were done after a clean HR with no additional hacks patches, hence, as they were release by the chef's.
There isnt a significant difference in speed between the three but you will notice that WMXL has around 20mb of free RAM on a fresh HR as it loads more UI data etc in RAM to provide a faster response (this was checked with SKTOOLS).
It will be interesting to see how these roms compare against an official WM6 hermes ROM if one will ever be released.
Nonetheless, as these roms are cooked, expect to find bugs or undisclosed features. If bugs are found, the chefs will try and resolve them etc. Also remember that even though our HERMES are essentially the same, some ROMS wonts work on som devices, so you might have to see what works for you. luckily my JASJAM is compatible with all the roms posted so far so it is pretty universal.
Enjoy the contributions guys and if you can, please donate the xda-developers for the help it has iven you.
I agree that LSVW ROM is the most stable among 3 WM6 ROMs

The end of the Trinity ROM developement

With the introduction of the 6.5 ROM, we all know that this rom is to heavy for the trinity user. Realisiticly seen we are left with the 6.1. So. The question that are arises, is there anyone here that is able to cook a good, quality, stable rom that is clean, has touchflow extracted from 6.5 and with uptodate software, kinda like the tytnn rom or the flinx one.
are you blind? there are nice working and fast WM6.5 roms out there, i'm using one myself so... pointless topic.
thanx

....really don't be so "blind"eheheheh!!!!my trinity is going very well wuth rubenalf ita tranlsation, jml today 5.5,tomtom7,videocalling,wifi going well, navisat working, google maps,Icontact,s2p music player,4 gyga microsd, diamond clock with animation -
- the only problem is my battery, after 2 years of really hard working now I'm really thinking about changing it!!
those 6.5 roms are slow on the trinity devices. Let's be honest. If you break the 6.5 down and strip it off, then it runs with poor memory. Conclusion? Trinity will not be able to take the 6.5 fully.

there is not much free memory, we can trim down any rom and make it as small as we want. But can we make 6.5 so that it has a lot of free memory? No.
little reflection
trinity is a very very good device!!!
but last period roms have recentely become beautiful and heavy for our little jewel.
Unfortunately, the development of this work no longer leads to great satisfaction as before
I thank all the heroes - cooks who have allowed us to see with interest our device for several years without tiring us.

yes I agree withbguys about 6.5 is too heavy to be honest and u can't run programs need a lot of memory or need a cpu preformane ...
I'm wondring about if this radio rom is spending battery 1.38.00.11 cuz I'm running out of battery so fast when I'm using internet and if there's a better one how I can change it cuz I tried too many times to change and didn't work
i just tried the 23504 Blue. It's slow. . . I keep on returning to finx latest rom with adjusted page pool settings. This rom is pretty fast, stable and has sufficient ram. If anybody is convinced trinity can handle 6.5 like that. Show me.
i also tried 6.5 and went back to 6.1.
Sure you can use 6.5 but it's slower, no matter how lite the version is. Start installing some stuff (specially recent versions which are also heavier) and everything feels even slower.
Nowadays no one produces software thinking about how it will run on our old trinity.
I'm even considering going back to 6.0 to see if i can get some more speed, don't think i'll be missing much from 6.1 anyway.
I'm currently on tomme45i's 6.1 which is a very good rom but it is also a bit slower (and buggier, imho) than finx's.
well, i'm using a 6.1 rom from tommie45, for me, it's the better rom i have ever try!!!
i dont know how, but his roms are the most stable and complete for trinity. it's my opinion!
i gave up on tommie45's rom and got back to finix 3.7.2.
It's not as pretty (b&w icons, uglier in general) and some functionality is less practical but... it feels much faster!
I recommend doing the same if the rom you are using feels slow.
Im using SuperSport WM6.5 build 23506 LITE and there hasn't been so much problems with it, but I can agree, 6.1 is faster, but the pro's in this rom is to many for me to use 6.1...
If I find the thread I'll put the link to it here.
Today at the phone store, they said they couldn't order the htc 3600 ( trinity ) anymore.......

yeah it's a shame right? 3 years ago this phone was at the pinnacle of mobile communications, and today omg there's so many other things out there

Diamond = Big disapointment

Hi to all
I just bought my new diamond, and i must say that i regret that i bought it.
I had a HTC P3600 and by changing to diamond i thought that i would get a really good pda.
I was wrong.
Too slow, bad gps reception...
Correct me if im wrong but P3600 (Trinity) gives 10 to 0 to diamond.
Never had any problems with gps, now i cant get gps reception.
Rom speed in P3600, even in WM3.5 is way better, diamond is tooooo slowwwww.
Please if i'm wrong tell me so, because i regreat the day i trade my Trinity for a diamond.
Sorry about my english

Hi Zenga,
I'm still using both trinity and diamond. Diamond is definitely faster in most aspect compared to Trinity, especially GPS lock.
You can help list out your radio and rom version, so that we can help improve your diamond experience.
Diamond is a drag with the initial official rom and radio, but flashing to later radio and a good cooked rom can make it fly...

The Radio is responsible in enhancing the reception of a phone. Not so much the Rom. Please make sure before flashing that you have installed HARD SPL. Then you can begin to experiment with RADIO'S and what not's.
I have to admit, that I would not keep my diamond right out of the box. XDA has made all these devices superior. So with a little patience and less crying, you too will reap the benefits of this community.....
try other ROM and other Radio ,u'll see that u was not wrong !
just only 1 bad thing on diamond that is low battery i think so
To be honest I agree witth the poster. i had an Elfin before and it was much faster. Diamond has limited storage and too little ram. With Elfin I used to try out new roms for fun now its necessity.I have tried 30+ Diamond roms and most give out of memory errors or have lots of bugs. Don Salaris romd seem to get the most out of it but its still sluggish on 6.5 where Elfin handled it fine.
Maybe buying a DIAMOND is now a mistake with all the new phones that came out since it was released.
i have to admit i was a little disappointed bout the speed too when i bought the diamond awhile ago, but on the other hand the VGA screen is really way better then the QVGA i had on my Jade.
After a few months of flashing, tweaking, flashing, tweaking..... i'm more then satisfaid with the performance, keeping in mind that this device is a little out dated already.
I'm sure that when you update the device's Radio and find the ROM that suits your needs you'll start to like it more.
Btw...the WM6.1 ROMS are a little faster in use and the 'older' TF3D interfaces don't consume as much RAM as Sense 2.5 does.
Another point for me is that i've not been able to find a better looking device yet. All the newer devices are so big and square; they all look the same and only differ in size.
And yes, lol.....i'm a woman.
The Diamond is getting a bit old! There's a lot of newer (more interesting) phones on the market. (Ever tried a Android Phone?... WOW they're nice!).
Anyway, I bought my phone a while ago - and I don't wanna spend extra money buying a new phone - since the Diamond IS working ok... If however my diamond should brick or something, I wouldn't buy a Diamond again - I would go for one of the nice HTC Android phones... HTC Hero I think would be my bet now.
There's a lot of interesting ROMs here, that give new life to the Diamond - but if you want a fast device... I would recommend using a lite rom - WITHOUT touchflo or anything fancy like that... just plain WM61 og WM65.
to be honest, i wasn't to keen on the diamond with the stock stuff, but in 30 mins, you can have a nice speedy device WITH GOOD GPS
Fast rom = L3V5Y's 28014 Light rom
although, if was buying now, i would probably choose HD2 (Leo) or Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium)
none the less
i like my Diamond
A diamond is forever
Progress.
I'm surprised the Diamond is still being sold. I've had mine for about a year now.
The gps is laggy but hardly slow at connecting. With the right rom and radio you can get a fast boot and relyable reception. I have to say that bying a Diamond so late after it's release was a bit stupid. If you did buy the phone today then you should be able to send it back for a refund or exchange. In the UK most companies give a 14 day cool-off period so if you aren't satisfied with the phone then send it back and get something more recent.
You can't compare it to phones out on the market today as technology has progressed. It's like getting a secondhand PC off your mate and wondering why it's not as fast as the one you saw at PC world the other day.
If you want fast Windows mobile phone you should do your homework first. I agree the Trinity was a good phone. It had a lot of buttons and good battery life. But it was a bit of a chubby brick in comparison.
oh and Don't let any sales rep dis-wade you. You get what you pay for.
I love my Diamond... Works a treat. Try flashing a new rom.
Thanks
Thanks for all the answers.
I didn't buy a new diamond, but an used one. In Portugal, there's still possible to buy a new one, but for the price we can almost buy a Touch HD.
The pda is beautifull, i was used to really fat and big ones (Qtek S200 and HTC P3600) and this one is really thin.
My expectations were high conserning speed, i thout that if the Trinity is fast on WM6.1 the Diamond must be faster even in the heaviest rom's.
I've tried some rom's, original WM6.1, WM6.5, someones with sense, but none of them satisfied me.
Can someone tell me a fast one? I prefer rom's with manila.
The rom i now use is L3V5Y's 28014 Light rom and my radio is 1.15.25.14
Thanks
try don salari clean basic light rom. Or use the kitchen provided by yozgatg and customize the gen y rom according to your preferences. I've done that with his R4.4A and I always have free rom around 60% (after using it for some hours).
if you like manila you could also try Donsalari's WM6.5/Sense2.5 or 2.1 rom (2.1. is quit simular to original TF3D 2.1, but with some upgrades like the weather home page)

I second the recommend on Don Salari's ROM. After using the diamond on Dutty's 6.1 ROM for almost a year, I wanted to switch a 6.5 ROM. I've tried quite a few but ended up using Don's basic light ROM. I've been using it for about a month and half now without problems, which is the longest I've kept a rom since Dutty's. I have to admit the roms with 6.5 do make the diamond a little laggy. Sticking with a light rom is the best option if you're a heavy user and use memory intensive programmes.

Performance ROM's

Hiya,
Before I get flamed for this I want to make it clear I've tested every custom-brewed rom on xda-dev and have created (and failed) my own rom.
My sole purpose is to have a rom that is all performance based with little to no eye-candy.
Kavana, lovebaby, etc really didn't work for me. I've been using the latest EnergyROM and I like it so far (except for random crashes after sending text messages).
Because of my ignorance, I want to know if there is a rom out there specialized solely for performance that may not be on xda-dev.
Thanks
There isn't any in my opinion cause I have tried all the roms and they always seem to get unstable after continous usage or after a few weeks.
But the original HTC Rom worked great but didn't look so good...
I'm surprised you say Kavana's ROM didn't work for you. I have tried ROM after ROM and I keep going back to Kavana's. For me, It seems to be the best balance of speed (after you bump it up a bit with OMAPClock,) stability, battery life, and flexibility.
Using kavanna ricky remade and all is working great!
I have not made a soft reset in more than 2 months!
But always a new ROM is something attractive

+2 on this one, I've used kavana's rom for over a year with no issues at all...I moved to a cooked 6.5 rom (3vo) 6 months ago..so there are very good roms out there.

I too am using Kavana's remade ROM at the moment. Its the best I have used so far.
Well indeed I've used Kavanas (and actually have re-installed it on my phone about a week ago to give it another go) but I've noticed most of these ROMs fall in line not far from each other.
I'm actually using a 2200mAh extended battery and the battery isn't consumed as much on Kavana's and EnergyROM. I am certain a ROM can created that can far exceed our current ones.
I have down-clocked my CPU but I don't think that should be an option. Thanks to all the guys who have actually put in the time to creating ROMs for the community and I mean do disrespect to you or the work that you have produced. Hey, we're humans and greedy for more

T-Mobile Pre configuired rom?

I saw that there is an ATT rom i was wondering if there is a pre configured rom version that is fully functional with the US T-mobile. System? Ie a kinda like an improvement on the current 6.5 rom tmo put out.
The stock tmo rom isnt bad tho wish it had some of the speed of the cooked roms tho and maybe the 2.5 sense.
There is the Timor ROM. It hasn't been updated in a while and I thought he took out too much, but if you search here you can find it.
Honestly, I was tempted to modify the stock 6.5 ROM and try and put 2.5 in it, but even with the tutorials, building a ROM isn't easy.
Maybe we could take up a collection for a chef to do a stock ROM upgrade?
HOnestly doesnt sound like a BAD idea. NRG profile says T-MO and i think he in the states? IDK
I like the stock its not that bad but I love the functionality of the cooked roms. A mix of both would be great. It be great if there was a cab to upgrad sense to a new version?
Ok, what would we like to see in this ROM?
Stock T-Mobile 6.5 release (with all t-mo apps?)
Sense 2.5
.NET CF 3.5
FM Radio
WiFi hotspot
Anything else? What would you remove or add?
Thats it really that in addition to stock would be a dream!
speed
2.5 is awesome, but fast 2.5 is Great
yeah i would like this also... I want a faster and better performance...
Try Timor or Josh's Black series...

Do we actually want the stock ROM or do we want a newer build?
I'll be honest, I've had problems with every custom ROM, either battery life (yes, I waited several days, the battery life isn't there) or having to reboot several times a day.
I'm back on stock for now because it just works better. I need something that's reliable on the T-Mobile network and I don't care about any other networks.
So, I'm voting for a direct change to the stock 6.5 ROM.
Is anyone else interested in a ROM like this? If we want it done, we can pledge some money and hire a chef.
