Hi Guys,
I put my T-Mobile MDA III (same as qtek 9090) on a cradle and after 10 minutes the screen turned off and the red light appeared on a top right corner. Now the device couldn't be turned on again. It looks like a completely dead device. Could you please help me what to do?
Is that a software failure or some other problem?
Please please please give me a hint. Is there any schematics that will help me in repairing the device? What is a cause for that failure?
Thanks in advance,
...MpegTv....
try to hard reset by pressing power and soft reset button
I've tried with hard reset and also with placing the device into bootloader menu with camera+record+power+reset and still nothing happened.
It is completely dead !!!
we have had this problem a few times with our blue angels at work, bad connection with the cradle seems to suck your batterie dead, we swapped batteries and pda works again everytime, This is the problem we get monthly that leads to dead looking pda's, exept that a batterie swap allways works,
ps
the batterie we swap with works too its just been drained.
Hi guys,
I discovered the cause. Something's wrong with my battery. After few minutes on a cradle the device turned ON and then reported BackUp battery VERY LOW, please recharge or replace.
What is a backup battery? Is that a main battery foor some other battery inside of device? How can I replace that backup battery.
When the device is on a cradle the backup battery is on 25% and the main battery is 0%.
What do i have to do beside charging?
Regards,
......MpegTv.....
Hi,
I just changed the screen, that is identical as the original one, for my blue angel, that was down for a couple of months without charging. Now when I try to charge the device it is showing me a red light on the charging led and not orange as it used to and as a result it is not powering up.
Do you have any idea what might be wrong?
Regards,
Michal
Battery is gone.. replace it.
Hello again!
I have a question regarding powering as well...
Can I power the battery without a running system?
anyone knows?
cheers,
krztf
well youcan charge the battery only in cradle's battery holder
elaborate pls
hi xplode!
i am not sure if i have understood you correctly, maybe may question wasn't that clear as well.... sorry! so just to be sure...
i wanted to know, if it is possible to charge the battery of the BA without having a running system (rom, wm) on the ba!
is this really only possible in the cradle? not with a normal synccable or charger?
edited to ask: is it possible to do THIS with the cradle? or cable? or both? is there really a diference between them?
forgive my ignorance!
krztf
It is possible to charge a battery without a running OS on your BA if you remove the battery from the body of the device and slip it correctly into the rear charging slot of the cradle (also means you can have a spare 2nd battery charged up.) If you don't have a cradle, then you're SOL, eh?
Whether your device can charge it's battery without a running OS you should try it yourself and let us know!
Still with the problem...
Hi, an update on my initial problem.
I received a replacement battery but the problem still persists.
i.e. When I place the device in the cradle it still lights up red LED.
Actually the battery is V20HR instead of V18HRT however this should not be a problem as it has identical specs except it has higher capacity.
Any ideas\suggestions what else could be wrong?
Battery Specs are as follows:
V20HR - http://www.varta-microbattery.com/en/mb_data/documents/data_sheets/DS55902.PDF
V18HRT - http://www.varta-microbattery.com/en/mb_data/documents/data_sheets/DS55802.PDF
Hi
I just had the same thing happen - not so fast with the changing the battery thing - It could be that the onboard battery is flat - leavve it in the cradle with the battery on for a long time and see what happens Thats what I did and eventually it worked - I know it makes no sense but it worked
Regards
John P
Hi,
Thanks for the reply however the problem is that I replace the on-board battery, pre charged.
I have not changed the main battery because it charges properly in the cradle.
Regards,
Michal.
Try putting the PDA with the battery on in the cradle and leave it a while - if it doesnt fix it take it out and put it back in a few times - worked for me and device is normal again
Kind regards

red light means extremely low batt.....guess your battery is faulty
i got the same thing.
and no it's not the battery.
it's the charging circuit on the main hardware isn't working.
open your phone and check the five small wires that they connect the mini usb to the main mother board, one of them must be cut.

so, is there a solution to this? or there really is nothing more for the device but the trash bin or for spare parts?
Have you tried this?

If you already replaced the battery and nothing, and you want to get rid of dear Uni place it for sell in parts on marketplace, a lot of people will go for it!

I had exactly the same thing with my old battery, after my try to discharge it with a lil electro-motor. then i found a post of a guy with the same thing, who fixed it-by "zapping" the UNI battery with a 9V battery, connecting + to + and - to -,for a few second. I tried it without thinking twice. It worked for me. Dunno how and why,but it did. I use the battery again, normal. But beware,it is dangerous to play with this type of battery,it can explode. Do a search on this subject and you will see
I agree with keeping_sg
how long have you left your uni on the charger?
just plug it in and leave it on the charger all night and see what happens.
I bought yesterday a 4800mAh battery from Hong Kong... 10 euros included shipping + FREE black back cover
Good battery life but still prefer to carry 2 original sized batts rather than get that big one, making even bigger our Uni
Respectfully,
Yes, that absolutely means your battery is dead. Try charging for a few more hours and then turn on your PocketPC. If the error persists, try changing the battery.

Carty..

Hello guys,
I have a problem, i haven't used my VPAIII for 6 months, and some days ago i wanted to turn it on, and it didn't react, so i decided that battery is low, i connected my device to cradle, and wait for some hours. So the problem is then device in cradle it's ok i can switch it on and it works perfectly, but if i remove it from cradle it turns off imediately and i can't turn on it again without connecting to cradle chargement, also it doesnt react to usb connection as chargment. Battery is totaly new it was bought from ebay (expanded 3400 mAH). Interesting thing that if i connect to cradle, device turns on automaticall and 1 time blinks led in red and goes booting system with no led light, after i see Windows screen it starting show the same right led in orange always, i see charging battery meter in windows but battery didnt go more then 50%, and everytime i boot on i receive Backup battery Very Low notification no matter how much i was charging my battery.
So i'm afraid maybe it's internal backup battery failure, or my main battery didn't get chargement then it says that charging. Maybe someone of You guys have any usefull advices, what can be the problem? Also if it possible maybe somebody can give me alink or image to see there this backup battery soldered on scheme.
Thanks ppl!!!

It sounds like the main battery is bad.
Is the battery you picked up new, or new as of 6 months ago? If it's new-new, it is still possible that it is bad.
Also, the charging circuit may have died. Most electronics will work and work, and when they do die, it's usually when power is applied to them (turned on, charged, etc).
The fact that it does charge up to 50% makes me think the main battery is bad. Do you still have the original battery? Try it and see what that does.

The internal battery is used only when the main battery is discharged or missing.
As for a link, hit the wiki.

Under the "Hacks & Tweaks" section, go into "Technical Stuff".
Thanks for reply, new battery i bought maybe 4-6 months ago i used it maybe 1 week, after that i turned off my device and left it for 4-6 months, so nothing should be happened to battery. I'll check device with old one, but it seems that device didn't work with original old one battery too.
Any other solutions, advices?
Thank You very much guys for help!!!!

Hi all,
Noob user here
I've a problem with my XDA IIs that I thought I'd get some advice on rather than dispensing of it. Basically...it won't switch on. When plugged into mains the red light comes on for a bit then goes off.
Phone was working perfectly, put it in my pocket got home and nothing, assumed it crashed but doesn't respond to anything. Has been sat on my wardrobe for over a year but could do with using it for sat nav.
Any advice on what to try? Could be the battrey but don't wanna fork out extra cash for a new one as it's even more money lost
If I wasn't to fix it, any idea on what it's worth? Screen is unmarked and it has all standard accessories with it.
Ta
Save you BA man! More or less it's the battery (I think). Or the internal battery is drained to 0%. Have you tried charging it first for a couple of minutes?
Yeah tried charging overnight. Charge light comes on for a bit then goes out. Does the same thing when connected via usb, red light comes on but it doesn't register on the pc.
Was working fine but then one day it just woudn't come on. Would like to keep it if I can, got a touch diamond too now, but this is actually a better phone to use!
try to use a different battery first. And let's see what happens next.
Yeah, I may have to but want to avoid as much extra cost as I can
Bit more info, using the docking station plugged into the mains:
Batt alone - Charge light on dock comes on.
BA alone - Red light on BA comes on.
BA with batt attached - no lights on.
Any ideas??
can you try to put it in bootloader mode?

Don't know how to
Plus it doesn't actualls switch on or register on the PC, so can I do much to it?
It's just like what I did with my BA a few days ago, I am flashing it with a new ROM and while in the process I intentionally unplugged the cable during the process and I got an error on my PC and my BA does not turn on anymore. I tried to put it in bootloader mode a couple of times and it did and I re-flashed it again. And it works. Check the wiki...

no need to buy at once, borrow first, then if your BA works using another's batt, thats the time you need to decide spending... cheers
The same problem I had!!!!!!!!!!
I had this trouble... and... YUP!!!!! is the backup battery.
So you cant charge your BA via USB if the main batt reaches less than 35% so keep it safely above 35% men...
BTW... if you have your batt less than 35% the OS can be runing just a little seconds so your batt is dying is not truth that it have 35% it has almost 5% trust me...
Yes!!!! the red led Turns On a little then Goes off... so sad isnt it?... now your backup batt is almost 0% thats why your red led appears... so...
Get a craddle USB-AC_Charging base it has a backtrace to charge apart the batt charge it individual. Once you get a full charged main batt, let your BA rest a little on the freezer to obtain a little power of the Backup batt... (YES ON THE FREEZER!!! ) at least 3 minutes before you plug the main batt.
It wakes up the device... maybe it becomes a few seconds on but... is enough.... if it starts... cradle your entire device on the craddle and wait till its full charged... again the green led appears cause the main is full but let it charge more and more... caus there is no led indicator for backup batt.
NOP!!!!!!! I dont do the freezer trick when i had this problem... cause i get it works faster than you...
Hope this works... post your adventure men....
Red Hanks/Que - Tried both those (ok, maybe not the freezer bit!), and stil no joy. Gonna go out over the weekend and see if a repair shop can try another battrey. Otherwise I may be saying goodbye :-(
Phezthie - The BA was rare when new, now they are non-existent. No chance of borrowing a friends.
Cheers for the help guys.
Well it is a nice idea!
you can make a modded battery for BA with two nokia bl 5c taiwan batts... check the post on winmo 6 subforum.
In my opinion. it's the internal battery since you didn't use the phone for over a year. Hope you can make your BA alive again because there's so much nice apps waiting out there...
I was using it daily before this though, it suddenly stopped working one day. It did however crash a few times before it finally went. I'll have a read up on changing internal batt. Red...I'm gonna try and save it!
Ok...keep us posted and good luck mate!

both batteries, main and backup, could be the reason thats why you need to determine which one of it by isolating the cause of the problem. to know if its the main battery, you can improvise by using different battery with same voltage rating (3.7volts, no need to worry as to the Ah rating), but be sure to connect the proper polarity to the BA's correct pin terminals, otherwise, power circuit of your BA will be compromised.
As to the backup battery, you can do nothing it but to replace if defective. the "freezer trick" is actually one of the shattering myths of electronics and cannot be relied upon to have an optimal performance, as it neither charge nor extend the life of the battery. it simply reduces the the power dissipation (power loss due to heat and resistance) during the initial boot so that it can draw enough power to run unit in its chargeable condition.
but since it is not prossible to borrow or no available battery can be used as a test unit, I suggest that you try the first procedure aforementioned, this of course, if you are familiar with battery polarities and know the corresponding terminals of the unit. regards
Hmmmm, my diamond has a 3.7v batt...never thought of that!
I'm near preston, with the origional battery . .
I'm near preston, with the origional battery . . fully charged, will last 6/12Hrs=using it, P.M. me ur postcode + House #, I will send it to you to try
(stick with the BA, new HTC Elf is half the PPC, that the BA is!!!!)
FleaBay'd a 2400mAh (incl shipping)=under £10GBP !!! (late last year)
#===#===# Currently Being Pimped (1st go!) #===#===#
Cheers mate, but I've just paid for one off ebay so I'll just wait for that to come now. If it doesn't do it I may be selling up...
Fingers crossed
Ok, new battrey arrived this morning. Gave it a charge and just tried it...
....no change
Screen, green and blue top corner and red end call lights momentarily flash when I press the power button. Then nothing.
Both batteries seem to charge in the cradle but not in the phone.
So, any other suggestions oh technically superior ones??
Btw, I received 2 batteries this morning, so I've listed the new one to get some cash back here:
