Ok, I know I've been lagging on working on this device here lately. But apparently even though I don't know how this happened, or why it waited so long to happen, I've finally have been able to build you all a working ROM for the X50v. This is a test release. This is not going to be my final A09 release for this device. So please test the crap out of it, and notify me of any bugs/problems. Only thing I think might be wrong with this ROM, is the IrDA. But I'm working on that. But test it anyway.
Enjoy!

4. Added Wireless Power
*** Test #1 BUGS **
1. Not sure IrDA is working.
2. I forgot to include .NET 2.0. So Some apps do not load. It is attached below.

Yay! Fantastic news! Thanks a bunch Lennysh! I'll try it, well, asap, which unfortunately will probably not be in the next few days
But again, many thanks for your work, great news for all X50v owners!

Kewl, might be best anyway. I should have a newer one out later on today I hope. Should be even faster than this one...

Is this one UC based?

No, but next release due out today I hope will be. All my X51v ROMs are UC. This one I released cause I was so happy to get it working. But it is a good copy once you install .NET.

Thanks for your reply... I am NOW updating my device. But I guess it will take forever to load it in to the NOR. The biggest trouble I am having is the slow down and 100% CPU issue with Maglite A03. Hope this one works better.

Well, Like I said, my next test release will be faster than this one. And I will be researching the FILESYS thing also, so maybe, who knows, I might be able to tune that down a little bit. I do not think the FILESYS problem exists on every NOR device running WM5+.

After reading lots of tech document, I now convinced that the filesys / compaction issue is not avoidable. But fine tuning the cache / file system could help a bit. It is just a damn thing that Dell / HP just don't want to change the 4K sector for NOR device.

Well, I've only recently used the X50v any really. So I don't know much of this problem. But if there is any regedit's that you know of that helps, and anything you think that can be done, please post. It will not hurt me a bit to add what I can to the ROM, and try anything at all to improve this "bug".

Most of the tweaks don't actually work. The issue is related to the time take to erase used block in NOR. It take few seconds for one block and therefore it will not erase until it is actually needed to be used. And when it is out of available block, everything will stop working (100% CPU load) until some free blocks are available. So the only solution is to put as little file as possible into the ROM, and put EVERYTHING changeable items into the SD CARD.

Post all the regedits needed to set the SD Card/CF Card as the target folder for anything you think we need to. I know you can do this for cache/temporary internet files. I just want to see all the one's that the X50v user's think are necessary to try and help this as much as possible.

Change pagepool to 0M will make filesys happier. Filesys may still use a lot of CPU sometimes, but the response delay during that time will be acceptable. Can you change the pagepool to 0M?

quick post for bug.
Wifi works only when switched off and enable with wifi button.
It cannot be controlled with software only.
Same happens in MagLite ROM

Well, I usually set all my pagepools to 5 megs for X51v, but I will post a pagepool changer with this rom added to the list in it. That way people can change it themselves depending on what they like.

It's using same OEM folder from MagLites Kitchen. So this is why that still is a bug. I will be working on this to try and fix.

That will be great. The slowness is mostly caused by write to the page pool, so change it to 0M really helps. Besides, all changeable file should be relocated to CF / SD card, by registry or other tricks. That will make x50v faster.

x50v is largly different from x51v becoz of the NOR flash.
It is simply unusable when filesys kicks in..
My experience is that.. with 80MB free storage, sometimes I need to spend 5 minutes to start opera and get into google (the first page). Which is simply... unacceptable.

Page Pool Editor from paveld has been attached to first post of this thread with X50v A09 ROM added to the list at the bottom. As you will see, the default Page Pool for this ROM was 4 megs already. So that is what you all are using right now. But least now you can change it, then re-flash. Let me know how this works for you.

Can you post those regedit's since you probably know all the best ones to use?

I have disabled cache of IE (Using Tweaks2K2.NET) and NetFront, and install everything on CF card. This helped a lot.

@MG! A New Elf Rom! [email protected]! Now with CRACKBERRY ADDICT SUPPORT! Elf 2.1! "The New Black"
Welcome to Elf v2.1!
Elf Is "The New Black"
Below you will also find the CRACKBERRY version of this rom. Please, seek professional help if you are addicted to CrackBerry, but, as a public service, I have included it. TIPS ARE HIGHLY WELCOME!
The damn CrackBerry hack took an INSANE amount of time.. The actual hex edit is easy; it's figuring out what to edit! argh.. Seriously nuts. BIG thanks to Shadowmite for his help in figuring this out. Also, a thanks to JJ for his complete lack of moral support as I tested it
Highlights:
Cooked into the rom:
1) BIG STORAGE! (48.8MB available after all ExtRom programs installed)
2) Shadowmite's TweakUI 1.4
3) dotFred's PimBackup
4) TaskMgr
5) ATI Patch
6) Office 2007
7) OneNote patch
Cooked into the ExtRom:
1) Windows Live Search (My personal killer-app)
2) Windows Live Messenger (the NEWEST Live Available!)
3) Device Lock
4) WM Transcriber
5) SIP Config Tool - VoIP configuration
All extrom customizations are REMOVABLE via. the Remove Programs App in Settings.

Download here (Rapidshare)
High Speed Mirror (thanks Chamelion!)
Download **FIXED** CRACKBERRY rom here (Rapidshare)
Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it..
Notes:
- X-Button has serious issues. I am not including it in this release. I recommend SBSH.net iLauncher as a proper replacement. It is inexpensive, and just amazingly awesome. It's the task manager of choice for most people who really know what they're doing.
- I need an icon for SIP Config Tool; I'm a god-awful artist. So, if anyone wants to contribute back an icon, please do and I'll release an updated cab for it.
- Splashscreens are professional; I do have some other more fun ones that ToddJG did; I'll post them later for seperate download.
- In my tests, with the standard battery, and full time push-email, I was getting an insane battery life with this ROM! Longer than I had seen before. So, I'd be interested to hear other's opinions on this issue...
- General idea of what got cooked vs. added via. Extrom. Basically, I wanted a core OS that allowed one to operate the device but leave most of the other stuff in ExtRom to be installed on HR customization. So, things like TaskMgr and PIMBackup (both VERY small programs, but, also HIGHLY useful) are cooked. Live, Live Search and other stuff that I like, but you might not, are in ExtRom and marked as 'removeable'. You will be able to reclaim the space lost on the Live installation, etc..

It's based on LVSW. It *highly* stable. So, if you prefer newer and unstable check out that Rockin' rom or Faria. But, if you prefer ROM's that don't need Ritalin, mine's the best around (IMNSHO).

Excellent, I will try later this week; I've just gotten Sleuth LSVW rom up and running.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the good work, Elf. Just had the original Elf edition setup 2 days ago and has not had a soft reset.
Trying this 2.1 out tonight.
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks Elf for the great ROM. I finally took the plunge to flash the ROM fo the first time. So far everything has been working fine except for the WebCamera Plus. Apparently after flash the ROM, it somehow returns a new device ID to the software hence the activation of the software fails.
So the problem would be similar to those from TOM TOM users.
I suppose I have to call Ateksoft to issue me with another activation code.
Apart from that it is a great ROM.
Thanks
I wish I knew why it does that silliness. Although, this whole activating based on some strange device ID is just silly too.. Pirates just bypass it. Legitimate people who buy the software are screwed out of the program...
There have been HUNDREDS of downloads of both roms, and only a VERY SMALL handful of posts.. I guess this ROM is the secret Diamond around here
WebCamera Plus from Ateksoft not working
Thanks for the reply, Elf.
BTW, donation on his way.
Great ROM elf, awesome in fact.
I just have a small problem with the refresh though. When I change the settings on the today screen like take away a button for instance, it does not refresh it until I do a soft reset. weird.
WoW!
With all the different roms ive tried this is the best so far!
well done, cant wait to see more!
We're like the diamond in the rough... The new black... You know, once you go with an Elf, you nevah go backlf (well, something like that).
CUS' i'm TELling you that I'm way better than some of these other ROMS
I'm just joking of course. I have great respect for all the cooks on here.. JJ is a great guy if you ever get to know him, Custel is, well, uh, uhm, anyways... Sleuth is a nice guy (smart too), and LVSW, well, he's just plain cool--I only wish he spoke English better because he rocks and I'd LOVE to pick his brain on a few things..
Anyways, I'm missing tons of cooks, so, don't take offense.. PLEASE! I'm just trying to be funny.. But seriously... In the words of that annoying idiot on TV that hocks his "Video Professor" software--"Try my product!" lol
I just put this on my TyTN today. I'll be testing it for the next week or so. So far, everything seems ok. It's definitely less snappy than Black 3.0, which is what I had on before for about 3 weeks -- 3 weeks without a single reboot. I'm hoping this ROM can show the same kind of stability.
Black wouldn't recognize my microSD after removing it - I had to soft-reset to recognize a re-inserted card. That is fixed in this ROM.
One minor bug so far - when setting an alarm with the built-in alarm function, AM/PM reads "P 1" and "A 1", rather than AM/PM. Not a big deal.

Go to HTCustom, change the TIME to Normal, NOT AM/PM.. It is a WM6 bug.
About memory... compared to the others your ROM is relatively low on Program memory (in my case about 24-25 Mb after install).
But you tell in your ROM we can remove the extra programs we don't need. Will this also increase the program memory (as I understand in WM6 memory allocation between storage en program memory is dynamically)?

does the bt works fine on your device with this rom? (btw, it's worked fine for me with the previous 6.1 - 3.08.61.27)
No,no I didn´t mean that I was trying to say that someone else is having the same problem with bluetooth.
Seems interesting but I rather stick with my current rom.
Bluetooth is probably because you didn't hard reset straight after, i didn't hard reset straight after and i got that bluetooth prob, but when i did hard reset without letting it start up, bluetooth works fine. to tell you the truth though, this 6.1 is not worth flashing, its butt ugly, nothing seems to have changed and lots of garbage programs. stick to lite or vanilla roms and add your own programs. Theres no speed improvements, no storage improvements and looks like a noob just made it, thats my personal opinion though, you may like it, look at PDAVIETS other 6.1 rom in trinity WM6 section with screen shots, and thats what it looks like, green and cheap. ;o)

well, the guys from asia have a different taste than ours. there are even different hardware design for the eastern/western markets (mio A700/A701 for example)
personally, i dont use the htc home plugin, so i dont care about the clock design. I use a different theme then the one supplied with the rom, with the plugins that i like, so after my customization the home screen looks like i want.

I found a lot of A2DP skippings only with HTC Audio Manager, but it happened to me for all the last roms I have installed (I think it's from some version of this software, cause it happens since I installed Mary rom and Schaps 4.30, that had it installed in rom). And the fix, A2DPfix, is very battery and cpu consumer, so I prefer not using this soft.
But it works perfect with the rest (I currently use coreplayer).

Well thank you for your blatant, upfront rudeness to the Diamond community. It's like we don't even exist. Talk about someone that couldn't care less .
Love your ROMs itje, please do carry on by all means. Would love a version with the new Pointui Home 2 cooked in, and NO TF3D (which eats up precious RAM, battery, and slows the phone to a snail-like crawl)! I'm loving Pointui Home 2. Everything is smooth, bug-free and the phone carries on functioning smoothly without being affected.
Not bad at all, seems to manage memory very well. Report back in a few days after I use it, but so far A+
Nice Rom itje. Love the Blue trimmings. They are very refreshing. Also noticed:
1) FlipIt by Wildberry team works nicely with this ROM.
2) Long End Key Press appears not to be not included. Might be a nice addition. Anyone know where the cab for this is so I can add it myself?
Nice Rom itje!!! But I will keep mine... in french
However I really like the blue highlights... Could you make a cab so we can install it on other Roms
Thanks for the job

Not enough memory

Hm, you seem to have a P835 on your hands. Say, is it possible to backport its VGA version of Glide to P565?

p835 is wvga so i guess it will b slightly difficult to do so
Why? The Today plugin doesn't occupy the whole screen area, so it seems to be good enough for VGA resolution, too.

Its not a question of today plugin, but graphics.
VGA = 640x480
WVGA = 480 X 800
I hope now you can understand
I know the difference between VGA and WVGA.
What graphics do you mean?

well the graphix such as png(s) will be differrent in their resolution for p835/565/552w and hence it is slightly difficult..For Ex
Manilla from Topaz cannot b RUN on DIamond-1 without change in graphix size..
Actually I already did it and you can see the result:

There is only a little space on the bottom
It has only 31,99 MB free ram at start??
Shows about 45 MB free RAM on my device with this firmware.
BTW, why does it display errors like "MobileCalculator cannot be opened", and the stuff about trusted certificates?
ok, I updated my device.
1. camera is working, but on all sceen I have a lot of noise, so photo looks terribly.
2. TCPMP doesn't works

hdubli, is everything working now, including built-in applications? In the last build I couldn't even launch picture browsing from the new Today screen. Also, what about flashing bug?
Please, add changes history to your first post, don't just replace download link with a new one, it's very inconvenient.
And, anyway, thank you for doing all this.

BTW, janekiwan, original TCPMP didn't work on my device from the very start, even with WM6.1. Though, this one worked fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387

I hv checked core player also works
One more question. WM6.5 offers new finger-friendly popup menus on soft-keys, though it seems that these menus available only in a limited set of preinstalled applications. Why? Is it because a developer has to recompile applications with the new SDK, or it is an issue of the current OS build (I mean, build 21501, not your firmware file build )?
Another bug: Choosing "Security" tab in Phone Settngs causes application crash.
Update: Worked fine after reboot. At first boot it couldn't find a cell network, so maybe it was a reason of crash. On second boot, the network was found instantly, and everything worked fine.
And, yes, including config files for Asus's Network Setting would be nice.

Fast Tattoo build I've found over at the vogue forums. Everything that works in the latest donut builds works in this build..including working wifi, ect, but no bluetooth.
camera needs work. No force closes, and it starts up faster than any hero ive tried. Haven't tested everything so let me know if you run into something.
This is not my work..special thanks to dzo, vilord, jamezelle, and many more still involved in the android project.
WiFi yes/no?
hows the stability, does it often end up quitting the homescreen to save ram?b

Wifi is good and fast, overall stability is very good as well. It will often reload the home screen if you don't use a swap file. Uploaded a conf file that will create one for you.

is there bluetooth working on it?

2-i need a sync prog for that
Is it working good on a htc-tilt ???
And what other files i need to for running it ?
Thanks
ajclai08, it's importante to say that everyone has to set the screen resolution in 320x480 at first boot, and then change to 240x320 if they want to.
Some apps that won't show in the market if you don't do that step.
PS: Some screenshots would be nice.
Good work dude
Good Call!

Good Work , Only issue it still is taking a long time to load from the drawer to the home screen and it won`t let me add Htc widgets, Is it just a issue that I am having or is just some general issues. It takes about 1-2 minutes to load home screen after going in setup or anywhere else....and have downloade the last conf (that makes a swap file)...
Cannot run
I keep getting "read only file system" and can't install this. Any suggestions?

Yes, you could do that but this build is built for qvga..not even sure it others will work.
Loading
I can get mine to load past Haret and the Android Pops up followed by the letters HTC and loud startup sound. I leave it there for 5 mins and then come back to a blank screen, 20 mins later it is still a blank screen.
I am using a Tytn II (Kaiser) Have tried this on a FAT32 formatted single partition SD with both 1GB card and 4GB card.
Any pointers in to where I should look? I was previously using a standard donut build just fine now I have replaced the files using these because I wanted to try out sense ui
Me too! Although I tried it on a Polaris, but since all of the builds for the Kaiser work on my Polaris I don't think this is the problem. Maybe, I didn't download the rootfs on this thread or the conf file. Will try now. EDIT:Yay! It worked! I downloaded the rootfs file and conf file (The one without the swap file conf) and overwrote my existing files. One problem though, no sound.
Does this even work??
Has anyone got this to actually work as described in the first post? I mean I have tried various mixes of files back and forth and now I can get as far as the Screen Calibration and sometimes to the SenseUi but its quiet slow and I get a
FORCE CLOSE com.android.phone has stopped working every few minutes.
Anyone had any better luck and if so what base files did you use as I have used new old whatever it runs into some problem or another.

Spent a good 3 hours yesterday using a whole mismash of files and settings only to BARELY get it to boot and run. I've foudn the zenulators droid-ion donut build has been absolutely PERFECT, fast, and stable using rootfs from 12/11/09. This build seems to be crap.
Camera work ? And battery ?

Glad that I am not the only one.. in that case.. I give up I will check out that Zenulator one you are talking about. Thanks for the tip
My partner has a Hero and thinking of getting rid of it due to its shortcommings in the PIM Dept, but I still would like to fiddle around with Android to see the improvements..
But agree with you that this appears to be a really crap build..
Plenty of users have gotten this to run, and run well, just check the original thread. If you want the SenseUI/Hero look on our device, this is the best it gets right now. You don't need a mishmash of files, just use what's in the first post. No build is perfect, you guys should have more respect for what the developers are trying to do for you.
Looking great, enatefox! Too bad I can't dual-boot Android builds, this one is tempting to stick with!

No disrespect at all polyrhythmic...in fact when my next paycheck comes I plan on donating I'm very grateful for all the work the devs have done. I've just been so fed up with WinMo that I run android pretty much as my primary OS so stability and functionality is everythign to me. I figured I'd give the tattoo build a shot just to check out the senseUI but couldn't get it working. As it is, it seems that the Kaiser has JUST enough power to run most andoid builds, that builds with "enahnced" UI's to me would prorobly just bog down the speed and functionality of it....no matter how pretty it is....and it is
