Live Search issues - HTC Excalibur

Hey guys,
I have a T-Mobile Dash that I just upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1. I have installed Live Search successfully but I am having trouble using it while at home. I can select "Gas Prices" for example when I'm connected at home but I get an error that the server did not understand the request. Please check your settings or try again later. I have no problem at all when I'm at work and connected via a VPN connection. I can run any of the tools with no hitch. That being said, I know that the issue is not with the Live Search application. It must be with the WiFi. I have a Linksys Wireless-G router with standard settings. It does have a network key associated with it. The interesting thing is that I can browse on my phone with no problem at all while at home. It is just when I try to access various tools in Live Search (e.g. Gas Prices, Movies, Traffic). If I select Web within Live Search, I can browse anywhere I want. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Ummm thats pretty weird, so you can browse the internet and all at home on your WiFi is that correct? also try to restart the phone and see if that works or if that does anything.

I tried power cycling about a dozen times. I even removed the battery. No luck my friend. It's so frustrating too because it was working. I fiddled around with a few settings and now it won't even work at the office anymore but I have no problem browsing.

Make sure you have the latest release. I had to "upgrade" my Live Search 3 times before I got the most recent working copy. Now everything works perfectly.

I updated to wm 6.1 and I'm getting the same problem too. Was there any resolution to this? I surf the web ok but nothing else works.

Please, where did you get the version 6.1? From their website I can find only wm6.

could you please upload the update or give us a link?

Missing data connection??

My stock Tilt2 has all of a sudden given me problems with the data connection. It tells me when I try to open apps such as FIM or the Weatherbug app that I don't have a data connection and I need to refresh it. I click refresh and still no luck. The thing is, it shows that MEdia net is connected. I can use the internet without any problems, though. It just seems to be when I run an app that required connectivity that it doesn't work. It also gave the the error when I tried to update the quickGPS function today.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Any experience this?
I'm sure someone knows what is going on.
I also could not get the Bing app to work right. I could not locate me (even through GPS), therefore could not search for anything nearby. I then downloaded the Google Maps app, and it worked fine! WTF???
Try Settings-Connections-Connection Setup.
That doesn't change a thing......
I don't know what happened. I just tried downloading a new app that also gave me a "failed connection".
Anyone have a clue?

You'll need to search in the forums here for the correct network settings based on what carrier you're with (T-mobile, Sprint, Vodaphone, etc), and go through them and correct whichever of yours have gotten set wrong.

I tried this last night and believe that all my settings are correct. (AT&T)
The internet runs fine using IE or Opera, it only appears to be apps that access the internet, such as the WeatherBug app, FIM, etc. FIM works to see things such as Status updates, etc, but it says "Failed using the internet connectio. Try to restart your data connection" and won't allow me to see who is online on the main page. Everything else thru FIM works fine.
The Weatherbug app gave me a similar error message and would not load any weather data or forecasts.
Here is what I have set, ya'll let me know if things are good.
Start/Settings/Connections/Advanced Network/
I have "Enable HSDPA/HSUPA" selected.
CHAP authentication is selected
CSD Line Type: Data rate 9600 bps(v.32)
Connection element: non-transparent
Start/Settings/Connections/Connections/
Advanced: Network Management:
Programs that automatically connect use: MEdia Net
Programs that connect via Private use: MEdia Net
Under the Wireless Manager, both the "Phone" and "Data Connection" are turned on, everything else is off (and has been since I got the phone. The apps listed above worked this way also before).
I have also gone thru Start/Tools/Proxy Manager/ and done the Restore Proxy as suggested on other threads.
I am at a loss......a Hard Reset is my last resort, as I will have to go through my business to download the Good.com software again to get my work emails going (not that it is a hard thing to do.....)
FYI, I am running the stock AT&T ROM also.
Lastly..... if I did do a hard reset and decided to flash a cooked ROM, could I still run the Good.com Mobile Messaging software for my work email??
Thanks in advance!
I'm on AT&T in Michigan & my GPRS authentication is set "PAP Authentication"
I've tried both with no change in my original problem.

Anyone solve this? I've been having similar problems... WIFI internet sharing lost the relationship to MEdia Net, but Opera and IE work just fine. Now Google Maps won't work, says there's no data network. ANd now, MMS picture messages won't work, says "Proxy Error".
I don't screw with the settings. Ever.
?????
I was having a similar problem with the data side of it. After talking to tech support at AT&T and HTC, no help there, I changed the setting from Enable HSDPA/HSUPA to Enable HSDPA only. Data problem appears to be fixed over 3g anyway. I haven't been using it long enough to say it is ACTUALLY fixed still but it's working at the moment which is more than moments ago.

East Coast Trains - Browser Problem with wifi hotspot?

OK so this is bigger than the title I think but I can't be the only person with this issue.
Here in the UK I use the East Coast Mainline train service into and out of London. On that service they offer free wifi and having used it time and time again, it works OK.
But my Desire doesn't like it.
The service works by letting you connect and then redirecting your browser to a log on page where you need to enter your registered email address. Again on other devices this works fine
But on the Desire I am getting an error on the redirect saying that there is a problem with the server. From my laptop, I am having no problem reaching the server to log on.
So I can't use the service.
Now my guess is that the browser is somehow trying to render a mobile version of the page or something so I have tried both the built in browser and Dolphin HD but still the same error.
Now I know that some other hot spots use similar redirected web pages so maybe this is a problem with them. I have not come across any others yet so don't know.
So have anybody else come across this either on the trains I use or with hot spots in general and if so, is there a work around?
Thanks
Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious but have you put Dolphin into Desktop mode when you tried it?

From what I can see, this is the default setting (I assume you mean the "Mobile view (GWT)" setting)
Has this got something to do with the desire not having proxy support?
Have the same issues in hotels but my iPhone connects no problem.

Not quie. If you press Menu and go to "More", and then click "Settings", there is an option called "User Agent". You can change this to Android, iPhone or Desktop. I'd give Desktop mode a go if it's not already on there.

I think most paid for hot spots use these browser redirects when you first connect. I don't think it's a proxy thing though because you would have similar issues on some browsers on laptops etc
Can't find that option in settings anywhere! Is in in the menu option when in the browser?

No, but you know we were talking about the Dolphin HD browser, not the standard one? Sorry if there was any confusion.
It's certainly showing as an option for me so I will give this a try next week and see if it makes a difference.
The problem however is not so much not being able to connect but how the Desire behaves when it finds an open wifi connection with no internet.
What I see is that the device associates to the wifi and gets an IP address.
Because it now has a live wifi connection, it stops using cellular data (3G, GPRS etc).
But because that wifi connection does not allow onwards connection to the internet (because I can't log in via the web page), nothing syncs! So for the duration of the train journey, the phone is not syncing mail etc.
The work around here is to remember to turn off the wifi before I get on the train and back on when I get off but that's a pain to remember each time.
I tried changing the user agent to Desktop (on default browser) as described here but had same problem trying to connect.

Possible Solution
Long time lurker and have registered to try and help you out.
I had no problem with other phones on East Coast WiFi until trying to connect with my Desire.
After some messing around this is what you can do;
Try to connect as normal on the default browser and you'll receive the certificate error.
Clear that and input httpwwweastcoastwifi.train/ into the address bar. As it won't let me post links insert the usual Internet punctuation.
You'll then be able to log into the welcome screen as normal and access the internet.
Save the above address as a bookmark to save typing it in each time.
Strangely the access in the East Coast Lounges don't folllow this malarkey and you can just access the Internet without inputting any user details.
Hope it works for you.

Good man
I was on the train again today and even messing about with the agent ID, no joy. I did spot the certificate error though so wonder if the Desire is not happy with that.
In the meantime I have tried the phone on other hot spots that have a browser log on screen and it has worked fine.
So it looks like East Coast has an odd setup but I am back on the train on Tuesday morning so will try the above then and report back
Many thanks
No problem, hope it works on Tuesday.
It works!!!!
Thank you so much for this.
In the end, I ended up setting up a bookmark for the URL you gave (eastcoastwifi.train) and then going straight for that. This then avoids the need to cancel the invalid certificate first.
As soon as I clicked said bookmark, I was presented with the correct East Coast log on screen and then bingo. Free WiFi
Of course I had forgotten just how slow it was on the train but never mind.
Again. Many many thanks
Pleased to hear it worked, I wonder many Desire users have just given up! As for the speed on East Coast, I suppose the best thing you can say is that its free and there's usually a 3G reception if all else fails unlike West Coast.

Problem with Wifi hot spot

HI all.
At my work place we have open wifi hotspot. Only thing i need to do to use it is to register on it when connecting for the 1st time, when doing it on laptop it simply pops website, where i need to enter email adress and my age, is one time operation (it records MAC adress i guess). I cant get it done with my Desire, i can see network, but it wont let me open any website, tried different browsers but no luck.
Any clues?
Thanks
Most sites with free access require you to leave the registration page open, then open a second window to browse. So open new window from menu and try that?
I cant even load 1st page, and yes tried new window, changed user agent too. No luck. Bit annoying as im working on the kitchen and could have spotify running all day long, with my 500mb worth data plan that aint an option. I went through quite few different roms alredy, started on stock desire one, now im on latest OpenDesire. My mates Nokia works just fine, web browsing, radio, youtube and so on.
Thanks

[Q] Problem while connecting windows marketplace via HD mini

Hi
I have acquired HTC HD mini recently. I upgraded its ROM to new version 1.36.720.X. But still I am not able to connect Windows Marketplace via my mobile. My GPRS connection is set correctly as I am able to connect Facebook and My Phone successfully. I am facing issue with Windows Live and Marketplace.
I always get error while trying to connect Market place that
"There may be a problem with the Marketservice now. Check your internet connection and try again later."
Can anybody provide me solution for this.
Registry value for HKLM\Systems\Versions\Aku is .5.3.3 (Which is due to latest OS version came with ROM) . Hence that earlier fix of changing value of Aku is not workable though I tried it.
I think that there are many unfortunates like me who have faced same problem.
Thanks in advance for help.
regards,
Pranit
Hi
It has been long time and I have received no answer. Please help me as I have been not able to use marketplace. I have tried all solution mentioned in forum but with no effect.
uninstall and redownload marketplace.worked for me.
This solution does not work. I didn't know how to uninstall Windows marketplace. Hence I installed and replaced downloaded version of marketplace app. Need a concrete solution. Just to mention, I am from india. I came across one more user of HD mini who is facing same issue.
I need helping hand here. Kindly somebody give me some solution. Is there any issue while accessing Marketplace from India?
Is your time date correct for your country.
I had the same problem i change the time to right time for my country and marketplace could connect.
I hope you understand my english.
Yes. I have synchronised time with internet. Still no effect. Assume that I have no idea about how to set the local time and guide me. I am really pissed off as my all efforts to connect Marketplace are failed.
go to settings 'time, date", and also check "country and text" just below the tab "time and date" I hope you understand this i have to translate from dutch
Hope this solve's your problem.
Then I have done it correctly. Still with no effect. I just wanted to confirm it. Everything seems just right.
i found this regarding your problem
Have you tried this deleting a reg key that sets the download location for Marketplace.
Can you please tell me where to find this entry in registry?
HKCU\Security\Software\Microsoft\Marketplace;Downl oadLocation
I found this on the forum of mobilitydigest.com.
Maybe you can find a solution for your problem there.
Just typ in Google marketplace bootstrap
tried. But still not working. I am stuck since I bought HD mini.Have tried number of options to connect marketplace and all met with failure. Can you think of other solution?
I have had this problem too. But simply killing the process in Task Manager, rebooting the device and retrying worked for me!
Please tell me which process is to be killed. I tried to locate process and kill it. If I am not wrong then in task manager there is no option to kill process but to kill application.

Hi , I have tried all sort of options now. But I have met no success. Please, please provide me some solution. My HD mini is sort of useless if I am not able to access marketplace. I am not able to buy certain apps which I would like to.
This guy had the same problem as you.
I've had this problem for quite some time and I think I may have found a solution that I didn't really seem to find in many other places. I believe that Windows Marketplace Mobile requires an authenticated connection to connect (network associated GPRS such as AT&T, Edge, 3G, etc...). To connect to WinMo Market with a wifi, I believe also requires authentication. My own personal router is secured with WPA and AES encryption, which my phone can connect to. I had no problems with connecting to the internet via browser (for the most part) with Wifi or Edge. Problem is, for whatever reason, Windows Marketplace did not recognize that my Wifi was authenticated. After playing around for quite some time to figure out why, I stumbled on a program called Advanced Configuration Tool (I own an unlocked HTC HD2). Turns out, my stock ROM had WPA Authentication disabled (which explains why flashing to a new ROM work for people since that option is typically enabled by default). I guess somewhere along the long, my phone had disabled it, most likely by some action of my own. So after re-enabling it in the network settings of the program, I had no more problems connecting to Winmo Market. Additionally make sure that your wireless config on your phone enables IEEE 802.1x network access control (you can adjust this on the actual wireless network setting where you input your passwords). I'm sure there are ways to activate it through the registry, but Advanced Configuration Tool by Touchxperience developers made it easy (it's in the network settings menu).

[Q] Tethering fix

Hey guys,
I apologize if this has been asked but I couldn't find it on any particular thread. About 10 days ago I started getting T-Mobile's upsell for tethering that I'd (thanks to the awesome developers) been able to successfully evade for over a year. Is there any fix for this? I'm (now) running Lollipop but it happened before upgrading so it seems unrelated. Thanks in advance!

There's only one solution working for me right now, but you'll have to buy this app: Wifi Tether Router
Go into /system and make a copy of your build.prop
Open your build.prop with a text editor and add this line all the way at the bottom:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save the file and reboot your device
Open the wifi tether router app and go to "configure wifi router." At the bottom of the page, there's a button to visit the site for device config settings. Scroll down that page to find settings for Note 3.
Once you're all set up, you should be good to go. Only thing you have to do is use a UserAgent switching app on your browser to make it think you're on a mobile device. I'm using User-Agent Switcher (with the blue globe icon) for Google Chrome.
Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply, but with a user-agent switcher, everything works even now. I was hoping to avoid changing my headers because certain sites won't be served to a "mobile" device. Luckily, my internet tv apparently doesn't send any headers because I can still tether unlimited...ly with that, but it's definitely frustrating getting mobile versions of sites on my laptop. I have observed a somewhat strange behavior that I wonder if we can exploit. It's somewhat finicky, but I've noticed that if I Google the name of a site I want to access (still via the address bar, though), the search results come up without TMO nagging me about a hotspot and oftentimes the link from the search results takes me to the site. I can't make sense of it, but as an example, if you try www.yahoo.com, you'll get the hotspot page, but if you google "yahoo" and click the first result, you get taken to the site. *shrug* I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but perhaps this observation will help someone else solve the problem
