Working IPSec VPN in WM6.1 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Does anyone have a working IPSec VPN on Windows Mobile 6.1? It seems that a lot of things in this seem to be broken and I'm trying to figure out what is broken.

*bump* Still trying to find out if anyone has successfully used the IPSec VPN capability of any build of WM6.1....

hi friend.
i only use the PPTP vpn connection with WM6.1 to connect terminal server.
it is under
setting -- > manage existing connections --> VPN
it have a option of PPTP or IPsec/L2TP.

soon i will change the terminal server to IPsec connection.
will let you know the answer.

I've installed it on MRH 5.0.2 Diamond Stable | UC | Build 19900 but it does not appear to work. Nothing in the control panel and no way to configure it. Is there any documentation available as it's certaily someting I would like to use!

Bluefire VPN
Hi CRCinAU,
Not sure if this is related to your question but....
My company uses Bluefire VPN software to create a secure VPN tunnel. I've tried Bluefire on your WM6.1 10.3 and it does create a secure VPN tunnel but for some reason, I can't download my company email even though I can ping my company's mail server just fine. Very weird and frustrating...
However, using my Dell X51v running Lenny's WM6.1 Beta 5, I have no problems with Bluefire and retrieving company email.
Bluefire is not freeware but I believe you can contact the company for a demo version for you to use for 30 days....
Regards to all.

VPN via GPRS with PPTP or IPsec

I am trying the obviously impossible thing:
Connecting my BA (WM 2003 PE) via GPRS (Vodafone Germany) with an exchange server behind a Cisco pix 515e firewall to synchronize my Outlook data.
1. IPsec
Tried all available clients like Antha, Movian and others. No connection is possible with my PDA although a connection with my laptop via a cisco VPN client is possible without any problems. The connection always stucks
with negotiating the security parameters.
2. PPTP
Establishing a VPN tunnel will work over the APN corporate.vodafone.de. But after trying to connect to the exchange server via IE no password login window appears when I am entering the server's IP. After some time IE says "page cannot be found".
Questions:
Is there any workaround available which describes how to connect a WM 2003 PDA via VPN and GPRS to an exchange server ?
Any experiences with Vodafone GPRS and VPN ? Does the APN web.vodafone.de also work for VPN ? Unfotunately Vodafone itself doesn't know !
Any further hints for my problems ?
im using Apani VPN to connect to a Cisco concentrator.
Its the only client I could get to work reliably -& theres a free trial version.

IPSec VPN client for HTC3300

Does anybody tryed VPN client for HTC3300, supporting Windows Mobile 5.0 and Nortel Contivity switch?
I have tried several solutions, incl. Bluefire VPN, AnthaVPN, ApaniVPN, NCP client - but could not get satisfactory result - some of them doesn't work at all, some of them couldn't establish connection or run on Windows Mobile 2003
Some experience with Bluefire VPN:
I have installed trial, it works on WiFi connection, but doesn't work on cellular (GSM/GPRS). An error -56 appears (no physical connection is present) although device connects to GPRS successfully and I could browse Internet
Could anybody advice?

My experience
I had to set up such a connection to my company VPN. Ok, I wasn't working on HTC p3300 but I was in the same condition for days. At last, I discovered that the provider was masking off the VPN frames. I had to buy another service and I had to connect to another "access point". (I don't remember how it is called exactly in GPRS). From then on I could either navigate internet or use vpn, but they are mutually exclusive for the provider policy. "we did it for security purposes..." they said. The problem is that one technician on 100 knows it. The compant was Vodafone ITALY. So I suggest you have a check with your provider. Maybe there's nothing wrong in your configuration.
Bluefire VPN is currently not compatible with WM5 AKU3. It works on devices wiht AKU2 and below. This has something to do with the way AKU3 names the GPRS data connection. It is different than previous versions.
Bluefire is aware of the issue and said they will have this corrected in the next release, due anytime now. I am running a pre-release build that the sent me and can confirm that it works with GPRS. The problem is this build breaks wifi on the device.

VPN Log In Problem with WM6 Black Edition

Not sure does anyone else have the same problem, I can't seem to log in VPN network through wifi in my school.
Tried bother Black Edn. v1.1 and v1.2, neither one can go through.
Anyone who succeed care to share the settings? I was told my log in ID or Password is wrong.
Or maybe it's the network which doesn't support WM6 yet?
Nobody uses VPN here?
I have the same issue, done a search and it appears that the TCP/IP stack is not binding with the VPN client software. This appears to be a general issue, I use the Checkpoint secure remote client but it also does not work with Cisco, maybe others. Unfortunately I do not know of a work round.

I have exactly the same issue with my WM6. I use the AT&T dialer on my laptop and try to connect over the umts connection created between my HTC Universal WM6 via usb connected to my laptop.
If you have any updates on this I would be grateful.

Problem with wm6 and Remote Desktop

When I startup the remote desktop application and try to connect to a server, I get an error message if I haven't already connected to the internet with another application. I've tried installing the wm6 terminal services client from several different downloads, but I haven't found one that will cause my 8525 to connect to the internet when you run it. The error message that shows up is this:
Connection status
Cannot connect. Likely reasons are:
1. Specified computer name or ip does not exist
2. A network error occurred while establishing the connection.
If I startup IE and browse to a website, it will work fine. Anyone know what I need to do to make the wm6 TS client initiate the internet connection?

It uses the "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using:" setting in Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks. You can set it to the preferred internet connection, and that should make it trigger on attempting to connect with remote desktop.

I changed the private network settings to media net, but it still won't trigger a connection. I also tried setting it to isp, but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions? I can't be the only one with this problem.
I'm having the same issue.
From what I've read, this is about as good as it gets in wm6 unless microsoft decidss to release the terminal services client as a stand alone install for wm6. They changed the licensing in wm6. In wm5, the rdp client was a required piece. In wm6, it's an optional licensed addon. That means that unless our wireless phone provider is willing to pay to license the rdp client for our devices, it isn't officially available for them and definitely not supported. Unfortunately, the new AT&T didn't bother to mention that they opted out of the rdp client for wm6 on the 8525 in their upgrade notes. It's a shame really. I won't be buying another windows mobile powered device until it comes with the rdp client again or microsoft decides to stop being stupid and just release a free download for it like they do for all their other platforms. For now, I just hope that logmein continues to remane free and available. Technically, it's a far better solution for our devices than rdp anyway.

wtf...well anyways the client is around on the forums, so why worry about MS, and it has nothing to do with that, set your data connection to always on, and you wont have to initiate the connection with IE, Resco FTP, and the old aim client are the same way..
Built most of my site from behind the wm6 client, seems to work fine here.
RDP does not work with VPN
I have an 8525 with WM6.0. I am able to connect to the VPN through GPRS. However I am unable to use RDP. I have installed Remote Desktop Mobile but it will not connect to my terminal server running window server 2k. Does any one have any ideas?

VPN over WIFI

Hello All!
I have a problem:
- need to connect to VPN through WIFI.
I'm running WM5 AKU3.5 Rom, UNI \ Qtek 9000.
With the built-in VPN client I CAN connect to VPN, but the first request to internet (via browser or Messaging send-receive) - drops my VPN connection, as it described here in the forum (Networking).
I tried 3-rd party software so far:
1. BlueFire VPN - just can't connect.
2. Antha VPN - just doesn't work.
Any solution so far?
Did anybody succeed with it?
Thank you very much for your answers!

** Let me describe in more detail:
In my case- this is a public WIFI internet provider, which has a wifi coverage in the city: GoldenWiFi.
Wifi is open PPTP. I need to type in a login \ pass on the web page I get, to start using the internet in current wifi session.
The ALTERNATIVE way to conect to internet - is to establish a VPN connection over the wifi.
I can successfully do in on the laptop, but not with my UNI.
WM5 has some bugs in PPTP implementation and there are problems connecting to VPN servers other than Microsoft ISA. I've spend couple of hours trying to connect my universal to poptop (linux pptp server which is quite popular) and it was imposible using mschap-v2 (which is required for security reasons). WinXP stations are connecting fine to the same VPN server. Poptop is included in many linux embedded devices (access points, wireless routers) and I think that this is your problem.
What version of bluefire did u use, I tried a nwe one which didn't work, but I got an old trial version that still works (most of the time)
