VPN Log In Problem with WM6 Black Edition - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam ROM Development

Not sure does anyone else have the same problem, I can't seem to log in VPN network through wifi in my school.
Tried bother Black Edn. v1.1 and v1.2, neither one can go through.
Anyone who succeed care to share the settings? I was told my log in ID or Password is wrong.
Or maybe it's the network which doesn't support WM6 yet?

Nobody uses VPN here?

I have the same issue, done a search and it appears that the TCP/IP stack is not binding with the VPN client software. This appears to be a general issue, I use the Checkpoint secure remote client but it also does not work with Cisco, maybe others. Unfortunately I do not know of a work round.
Malcolm

I have exactly the same issue with my WM6. I use the AT&T dialer on my laptop and try to connect over the umts connection created between my HTC Universal WM6 via usb connected to my laptop.
If you have any updates on this I would be grateful.

IPSec VPN client for HTC3300

Does anybody tryed VPN client for HTC3300, supporting Windows Mobile 5.0 and Nortel Contivity switch?
I have tried several solutions, incl. Bluefire VPN, AnthaVPN, ApaniVPN, NCP client - but could not get satisfactory result - some of them doesn't work at all, some of them couldn't establish connection or run on Windows Mobile 2003
Some experience with Bluefire VPN:
I have installed trial, it works on WiFi connection, but doesn't work on cellular (GSM/GPRS). An error -56 appears (no physical connection is present) although device connects to GPRS successfully and I could browse Internet
Could anybody advice?
Pavel
My experience
I had to set up such a connection to my company VPN. Ok, I wasn't working on HTC p3300 but I was in the same condition for days. At last, I discovered that the provider was masking off the VPN frames. I had to buy another service and I had to connect to another "access point". (I don't remember how it is called exactly in GPRS). From then on I could either navigate internet or use vpn, but they are mutually exclusive for the provider policy. "we did it for security purposes..." they said. The problem is that one technician on 100 knows it. The compant was Vodafone ITALY. So I suggest you have a check with your provider. Maybe there's nothing wrong in your configuration.
Bluefire VPN is currently not compatible with WM5 AKU3. It works on devices wiht AKU2 and below. This has something to do with the way AKU3 names the GPRS data connection. It is different than previous versions.
Bluefire is aware of the issue and said they will have this corrected in the next release, due anytime now. I am running a pre-release build that the sent me and can confirm that it works with GPRS. The problem is this build breaks wifi on the device.

WM6 Internet Sharing Port Forwarding

hello everybody,
i´ve checked the wikis and searched through the whole forum but did not find anything related to that. my question is:
my notebook is connected via the internet connection sharing - everything is working fine - but i can´t use some services because i need to forward the ident port (113) among a few others for that.
so, any idea how i can do that? (if possible at all).
any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think port forwarding might be a bit hard.
First thing you need to check is what IP your Tytn gets from your ISP. If its in the private IP range
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
then its not going to happen. Your ISP(ie your telco) is NATing you further up the chain and they are the ones who needs to forward the ports for you.
It doesn't really matter what IP he gets from his ISP - the phone is already NAT'ing the connection. Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to forward ports with the phone.
Ofcourse it does. If his phone is getting a public ip there im sure there is a way to forward the ports.
But if his ISP is doing the NATing then there is no way.
hmm, so you guys think it´s already time to give up hope?
The same question.
I need port forwarding for utorrent client...
When it was WM5, there was a Modem program, so we can easy create and ue dial-up connection on PC! and PC gets real IP from cellular provider...But now WM6 works as Router and PC gets fake IP from mobile device(mobile gets real ip from cell provider)
And we can't do anything
Dmitry: Just because I'm curious: what network you are using and what is the ip subnet you are provided by the operator? So never seen in even one operator, that would provide me with external IP.
Does this do what you are looking for?
I found this app.

Question Re: Live Messenger Connection

Ok I have searched in this forum for my problem but no clear cut solution found so far.
I am really hoping that someone could help here.
My windows live messenger will only connect through GPRS/3G.
It will not connect through wifi/wlan no matter what.
I have tried all the different methods of changing connections to "My work network" as well as pressing the cancel bubble when it initiates the connection and nothing really works.
Does anybody know of any solution to this.
If not where can i get the old msn messenger from?
Thanks in advance
I dont think it's strictly true it only connects through 3g/gprs.
When my phone is connected to my PC via ActiveSync on the USB cable I can connect to Windows Live as well...
I do remember someone else reporting problems with WiFi though. Try looking back through older messages in this forum
Phew, at last someone is interested in looking at this.
I have tried signing in when I am connected to my PC and it worked. The connection bubble to GPRS came up and I cancelled right away so it used the PC to connect.
However WIFI is still impossible on my softbank. If anyone else finds an answer please share it with us.
You know, I have the same problem. Live messenger won't connect over wifi. However, my problem doing it is with my Wizard, not Hermes.
One thing I've noticed is that it seems to change depending on what ROM I flash to it. Meaning, I'll install one person's cooked version of WM6, and I can connect WLM without an issue over wifi. But I may try someone else's and that verion won't. So, my thought is that it may be a problem with either a specific build of Windows Live, or a specific build of WM6. Unfortunately I haven't been able to narrow it down to a particular one yet.

VPN and Remote Desktop

Hi Guys,
either I dont know how to search or there is no info on VPN on the forum(I probably dont know how to search) In any case. I need assistance. How do I setup a VPN on my TyTn running WM6 and also how do I get remote desktop client? I am sure this was around previously. Did MS remove it from WM6? Or was it HTC? It this is the case.. how can one get it back?
thanks!
here's remote desktop. How do you use it? I don't know how to set it up.
thanks!!!!
now for VPN....
cheers!
The remote desktop client is available in several places in this forum for download.
To set up a VPN:
add a new VPN server connection
enter the name / ip of the server you want to connect to
select the vpn type -- ipsec or pptp
next
enter your user name and password
finish
The only way I have found to connect to the von is to goto
Start-Settings-connections-connections-edit my vpn servers- -- tap & hold MY VPN
select connect
you must be using a plan that assigns you a public IP (not WAP)
hope this helps

Thanks cmccarter, done it but how will I know I am connected.. It does not say connected anywhere that I can see and when clicking/hold on the item it gives me the option to connect again, not disconnect as I would have thought The other thing is terminal server does not connect. It connects fine on USB. VPN/Remote desktop connects fine using normal internet on pc from outside the network. So I believe the network settings are fine.. How would I know though if I am on WAP or get an IP. Also ow would I know if the VPN is connected?
thanks

i also have struggled getting rdp to work over a vpn, in particular over 3+/hsdpa
the only i found in wm5 was to add the vpn connect to the exceptions list of the connection manager, so that it didnt disconnect the vpn whem connecting the rdp.
this occurs more when u use an ip address to connect to a work intranet.
suppose if u use the dns name of the machine and not the ip address then it isnt that much of an issue. in wm5 when u put the ip address in it assumes a an internet rather than intranet connection so it disconnects the vpn to look for the ip over the internet
putting the ip into exceptions forced wm5 to not disconnect it when rdp was looking for it.
i cudnt get it to work this way in wm6 so i am also looking for an answer on this.
rdp to my servers when they have crashed and i am on the road wud b wonderful....
Hi,
I've a similar problem.
I use a VPN-1 SecuRemote that normally connect my PC directly to the company network.
Well, using the share modem tool, I'm not able to reach the gateway.
the share modem system give me a private IP that establish a connection between PC and TYTN.
This connection use the Tytn like a gateway to navigate in internet.
Someone know to solve this issue?
Tanks a lot
if i select start the vpn connection, nothing happens - and i can`t ping the IP`s in the VPN. so i think the vpn ist not open - OR the routing entrie is missing....
is there some shiny "pptp - standalone" client?
greets, Nik
for some reason i dont think the vpn option works over 3g/hsdpa, atleast not on my device using t-mob web and walk.
if i connect the vpn when using wifi it connects and everything is fine, if i try and connect when i'm already running a 3g connection it doesn't work.
i dont think the radio stack is capible of handling a 3g connection and a vpn connection. we might need to go down the route of getting a seprate wm vpn client.

[Q] Why does the VPN suck in Android?

Does anyone know of a ROM in which the PPTP VPN actually works? I've tried 6 or 7 different roms today and have yet to find one that works. Is this a Google issue, or something else? Surely some developer must have tested this function and can speak to whether or not the VPN works. I recall that in WINMO only a few roms had reliable VPN functionally, Mighty Mike and Silence come to mind. Just to be clear...here is what is generally happening; the VPN connects without a problem. The RAS server displays the connection and shows packets in and out. Some roms will not route one packet properly to the device. Others will appear to work great, pinging remote resources, but as soon as you try to do anything else, i.e. RDP, the connection crashes.
Thanks
