So, if you can solve this one, your a genius.
I have a treo 700wx. I accidentally deleted my text messages. I was able to find a program that forensically found the database store that contained the text messages. Now, I have a file called p1RilSmsBridgeDb. I need to replace the existing file with the same name on my phone, or somehow import this database into my device.
If you can't solve that...would you happen to know how I can retrieve unwritten over information from my device: the text messages.
I know a lot of people do this for somewhat queer reasons, but I have a valid one, so valid, it really doesn't matter...
I JUST WANT MY TEXT MESSAGES BACK!

Just trying to figure out how i am able to send a text message to all the numbers in my phone without having to select the 200+ contacts individually...
Can anyone help me out here? Does the 8525 even offer an option like that?
Please help
Thanks
hey that s called spam!
i m not sure but maybe you can create a group (like you do on outlook) and send the sms to that...
lol
well im in the promoting business and the majority of my contacts are those who attend my events.
Im not trying to go through outlook. I know in several other phones it gave you the option of selecting all or at least going through your contacts and checking all those you would want to send the text to. On this phone i cant seem to find any feature like that. I have to individually add EVERYSINGLE contact going from text to contacts list to text to contacts list. Its pretty ridiculous.
If anyone knows of how to select or send to all, i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is an application to do this...
When I get sms messages, they are filed as individual massages, ie: not organized...
What I would like it to have them files under the sender.
Does this make sense? Is there a better way to store sms messages?
Not anything that you are asking for.. but you can try the SMS threader, which will make your SMS looks like IM chat screen (i.e. message per person). I think there is a IM SMS currently being develope. Do a search.
Yes there is. PocketCM - what is an iPhone like contact manager for wm - can do that. You can chose a view in the software when you can see all your contacts with messages. And the msgs are being displayed like chat "bubbles".
And i think you can answer the msgs too from the software. Pretty cool, check it out at pocketcm.com
I use Palm Threaded sms for that, I think is the better for that purpose.
And SMS Scheduler is freeware! I wonder why people don't use it more. Is a must for me. (I contacted the author and is aware of the date settings problem, he will make an update to fix it as soon as he got time)

Hello Guys,
I just got a HTC Desire and I really like this cell phone.
But I have a problem with my SMSes.
Before, I got a HTC Diamond and I had allot of text messages on it.
So, I found a sollution to backup my SMSes from my Diamond to my new Desire.
What I did: I downloaded SMS Exporter 0.5 and made a XML file. I opened this XML file with my Desire.
Everything worked, I got my SMSes back.
But some SMSes (from the same person/number) are separeted from eachother. Sometimes I got 3 different conversations, but they all are from the same number.
So, my question is: can I join them togheter and edit my inbox?
Besides that, I got problems if I push the send button, it doesn't response (in the conversation screen). The only thing what works is to set up a new sms in a different windows.
I only have this problem with contacts who are "backupped". So, with new contacts everything works.
I really want a sollution for this
Thanks in advance,
Frank

it sounds like the backup file is either not compatible or is corrupted.
i'd recommend deleting the sms from your desire and use a different program to backup your smses to your desire
This is very much possible, but the right apps do not exist at the moment.
I (actually my better half too) have successfully transfered my 11600 SMS messages (almost 3mb uncompressed) from several generations of WinMo phones (thanks to PIM Backup!) to my Desire using SMS Exporter v0.5 and SMS Backup & Restore. However, the XML file produced by SMS Exporter is not identical to the ones SMS Backup likes to "eat", so they require considerable editing (search and replace-mania) and some knowledge of what means what in the files.
Now, there are not many programs that can export SMS as .xml for WinMo (at least that I've found), but there are loads that can backup/restore XMLs for Android. Unfortunately none have the precise same XML setup as SMS Exporter so simply importing a SMS Exporter file will likely yield errors and issues.
I wish some code wiz would have a look at this and make a working solution, it should be pretty easy, even simply some kind of script could be run on a computer, to convert a SMS Exporter xml to something readable by one of the several capable Android apps.

Hi! Use sprite transfer. It's totally free and very efficient. I used it to transfer all PIM data and bookmarks from my HD2 to my Desire. Seems to work fine to transfer from Symbian, Blackberry and WinMo to Android. ;-)

Thanks for the tip about Sprite Backup, thought it cost money, but things must have changed since I last used it years and years ago. If it works, we're golden (too late for me though)
I'm sorry, it's not Sprite Transfer as I wrote, but Sprite Migrate. It's totally free and available there:

Replace WorldWideWeb by " www "

Be prepared for it to start hiccuping when you try to browse that many messages. I've probably sent and received about 6-7000 with one of my mates over the years (guessing 1,5-2mb worth of text), when I enter that thread from the message app the device needs to think for a few seconds Need something like "hide (not delete) older messages", but I haven't found a setting or app that can do that. Checked out Handcent SMS, it's faster browsing messages and hides older messages, only problem is, when clicking "show older", it only shows sent, not received. Sort of takes the point out of threaded SMS.

I used "SMS Migrator" (http://a.baole.org/home/sms-migrator)
Can I just ask why you want to keep all these messages? Surely all of them can't be that important! I get it if its a pretty girl, or a message that has some personal meaning, but surely you can't re read all of them!
Why don't you just create an website from the xml and bookmark the url? You could have a link for each contact then. In fact if someone wants to tell me what each xml category contains and its heading, ill knock u up something searchable in php.

Hey guys,
I've got an annoying problem with my touch pro 2. For some reason, text messages in the sent folder are not sorted properly. For example, if i choose to sort them by "from" option (which is supposed to sort messages by contacts' names), all messages get jumbled up and i see several texts from contact X, then a few texts from contact Y, then again a few messages from contact X, then Y, and so on.
I also noticed that when i search for a keyword in my sent folder by typing that word, it doesn't find all the matches, but it only finds some of them.
One more thing is that i tried this with the sent folder of a new touch pro (Fuze), and i got the same problems! So i guess its not a problem with my device....but anyhow i am using the latest official HTC rom.
I just wanted to mention once more that this is a problem with the sent folder only, inbox folder works flawlessly.
I really appreciate it if you guys can perform the same steps and see if you have similar issues...or if you might know or can think of a possible solution for this sorting problem, i appreciate it for sharing it with me
PS: I've posted a similar thread in the Fuze section as well (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728299).
has anybody tried sorting messages by "From" to see if it works?.....
Hmm, haven't tried it (not that easy on the new HTC messaging client), but in the Sent Items folder, the From field would be your own name... for all messages. It probably uses time/date as a second sorting criterion.

thx for replying but what do you mean by this?
basically all i wanna do is to create a backup file for messages of individual contacts....so i have to sort them somehow and put specific messages (from each contact) together in one folder...
so do you know of a prog that does this for me so that i dont have to do it manually?
thx alot dude
I would like to merge text messages located on 4 devices:
1. WM5 phone
2. WM6.1 phone
3. Another WM6.1 phone
4. WM7 phone.
How do I do this?
I would like for all messages to be merged into one file, threaded and easily accessed for archive purposes. I didn't forward my WM5 messages to WM6.1 because that seemed unreliable when I researched it when I first got the WM6.1phone and searching now still gives various processes and I don't know if any will work moving forward to WM7. I would prefer not to send everything to a Gmail account and have my data mined...so...how do I do this?
I don't have the WM7 phone yet, but will. And, I have 20,000+ messages... I know some messages I have are duplicates (on the WM6.1 phones) so would like for the process/software to check for duplicates.
I doubt I would want to load the whole file on my WM7 phone as I am sure it would slow things down incredibly, however, an option to do that if I need to would be nice (or on a WM6.1 phone). I am looking for something to be able to access them all on a PC at least.
Thanks for considering this!
G.
For your SMS messages on your WM devices, you can use this software to perform successive backups and restores from your older devices to your current 6.1 device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705. Start with the older one, backup then restore/merge to the next one, backup then restore/merge to the final 6.1 device. I would advise doing a separate backup on all devices just to be safe. Make sure you select the option to merge or add rather than delete messages on the device when restoring. Instructions are on the authors site: http://www.dotfred.net/default.htm
On WP7 however there is no way to backup or restore SMS at this time, dont think there is even a way to sync to an exchange server so accessing your older texts on your WP7 device will have to wait until a solution of some sort is found.
Thanks efjay! I saw that post but was concerned that it was a little buggy and didn't allow for editing on a PC. Also, does it check for duplicate texts--couldn't find it on the author's page nor a search of the original post? I do see it creates duplicate contacts and appointments which isn't encouraging. Of course I can use any of a number of programs for editing on my PC once I get them all in one place but would like to ask the community's help first and not waste time. Have you done what I am trying to do?
Thanks again!
G.
I dont know if it checks for duplicate texts, and the backups I've done have been with emails. Maybe exporting to a text file will make it easier to remove the duplicates.
However here is something else you could try. Download a trial for Resco Backup, which includes a desktop tool to view the backup sets, you may find it useful. I had to use this to restore some emails from my WM device some time back when they got deleted from the server. See how that goes.
