Samsung i780 - audio/volume settings - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi, this is my first posting on this forum (which I have been reading for a while) and I take the occasion to greet you all.
I've got a Samsung i780 (Italian brand TIM) and I am very pleased with the same. However, (maybe because I'm deaf although I don't think so) I find the volume-output of the earphones very low! I read on an Italian forum that by using the code:
*#0002*28346#
one gets access to the volume panel control of the i780 and from there one could probably increase the volume-output for the earphones.
I'm a bit "nervous" of accessing said code and before doing so I wonder if you can let me know if:
1) once entered in the service-menu (using above cited code) is there some kind of exit (without saving) for instance like when ones enter the BIOS-settings in a PC?
2) has anyone already modified the volume with success?
3) is it straight-forward or are there many parameters to change?
Any help/input from you would be really appreciated. If someone already have a procedure (or a link) that would be really great.
Regards,
/tilleke

I would also like to know if this can be used to increate the PHONE volume as well, which is too low for me, the lowest of all phones i had...

indeed it will take you to a menu that allows you to control several variables related with sound... did not test, but it was a good hint. I'll post my findings when I have the time to test it

Samsung i780 - service menu?
Hi guys.. inspired by the *#0002*28346# code for changing volume (which works well by the way..) - I was wondering how to get to the following menu:
[1] Debug Screen [2] Version Information [3] RF Test [4] UMTS rf nv [5] Read gsm rf nv [6] Write gsm rf nv [7] NULL [8] Audio [9] Common ”€\ [1] Basic information ”Ź\ [2] MM Information [3] RR Information [4] GSM Neighbour Cell [5] GPRS Information [6] SIM Information [7] Handover [8] Phone control [9] Antenna & ADC Test
These strings (basic menu) and even more interesting ones(submenus),can be found in the i780_DXHC4_Rev12.img file, I guess it's some kind of service menu, yet I've no idea HOW to get to this menu... anyone does ?

it is indeed possible to enter and exit the menu without changing values. just pressing ok.

...and the settings survive after soft-reset... I guess they are stored in the nvram. Great for making by bluetooth handset louder

What exactly did you select in the menu to increase the volumes of the phone? there are many paramters in every menu, is there some manual for this?

Many thanks for your replies. I will now try it out.
In any case, if someone obtain some real good results it would be great if you could post a more "detailed" procedure. I will do this myself as well.
This could be useful for other users as well.
Thx and rgds,
/tilleke

There is no manual.... but generally....
TX - controls how loud people will hear YOU
RX - how loud YOU can hear ppl
- XX dB .. +XX dB .. logarithmic scale.. negative values decrease volume, positive values amplify volume, 0 dB = "original" sound without any processing (decrease/amplification)
Works also with the ring tone volume, speakerphone volume, media player.. everything - and values are retained after soft-reset, but reverted during a hard reset.
I've attached the app that is launched with the key combo.. can't launch it manually though, any idea why? And also, where are the values stored? They are applied immediately..

Hi,
Its still not clear how to adjust...
1) what's the difference between Normal Mode / Talking mode ? Normal does not have RX / TX...
2) I will use TX to increase hwo loud i can hear people but what is the other settings (RCV, MPBST, MVOL, M2BST)?

Can anyone post the original settings here, please. I accidantly increased the microphon sound of my earjack and do not know what parameter it was. I want to avoid a hardreset of course ...

what was the problem after increasing ? is it too loud?
I did some chnags andI am really happy with them

yes, too loud. the caller told me he wasn't able to understand any word because of scratching noise.
Can you post your Settings? Maybe they work for me too...

Hi Dirk
so sieht man sich wieder
HP :-7.7db
RX:-6db
MPBST:+12db
MVOL:0db
M2BST+0db
TX:-6db
Das sind die Einstellung vonTalking/Earjack. Reicht dir das?

I don't know how to increase my microfone. I tried many settings but no results. Could someone help me? which setings I must change to increase volume on my microfone. Sorry for my english. I'm still learning.

found this on wordpress.com
Here’s a tip from Gavin to tweak the i780’s volume-
*#0002*28346# code for changing volume
TX - controls how loud people will hear YOU
RX - how loud YOU can hear people
- XX dB .. +XX dB .. logarithmic scale.. negative values decrease volume, positive values amplify volume, 0 dB = “original” sound without any processing (decrease/amplification).
Works also with the ring tone volume, speakerphone volume, media player.. everything - and values are retained after soft-reset.

Thx Reyals but I read this before. I set this:
Talking -> handset and Earjack:
TX to 0dB, next time -1,5db and -46,5dB (Available value for this setting: from -xx to 0dB)
next menu and apply.
I didn't see any difference. Maybe I chose wrong setting.

This information is very useful to improve the talking quality of BT handfree
If you own a BT handfree with DSP and use it on i780, you will found that other people can't hear what you are talking.
Your voice will process two times in BT handfree (DSP) and Phone (TX -9dB). it result the voice is very LAG for hearing.
But if you use a BT handfree without DSP it will be fine.
Therefore if you use a BT handfree with DSP, you should set the TX in BT mono to 0db.
P.S. I found that the i780 is REAL stereo BT (A2DP), not same as HTC phone used joinstereo. and the BT sound quality on i780 is great with my plantronic 855.

I've been playing around with the settings but I have not managed to increase the volume-output of the earphones (for listening to music). I have tried all possible settings but in vain
Someone who knows what settings to change?
Thank you.

Orbit loudspeaker distortion.

Hi Fellas, wonder if you could help me out.
Done a search, but to no avail on this one.
My XDA Orbit loudspeaker has gone distorted on speech lately.Music is fine but speech such as MS Voice command and TomTom sound distorted at high volumes.Seems like the volume is louder than before, like the gain has been turned up or summat.
Anyone know where loudspeaker volume level in the registry is?
Maybe turn that down a couple of clicks may help.Anything so I ain`t gotta change the speaker!
Thanks in advance.
Anyone know where loudspeaker settings are in the registry?
Anyone? ???
Maybe this will help. Not investigated it myself, but maybe worth a read..

That`s very helpful.
Cheers buddy!
How did you get on? I have the same problem, which settings did you use if you got a good result.
Still playing with it at the minute.Definately alters things using the values from the Wizard registry.
I`ll post my final settings when I crack it.

Accoustic Parameters

Anyone know how set accounstic parameters works?
I am trying to adjust the fact that full volume on the Phone via the speaker is fine, but then when I listen to music via the wired headphones, I have to turn it dwn to say 35%, then I get a call and volume jumps right up to max and it sound slike the other person is shouting right in my ear.
(Ok that is probably the effect the wife is trying to achieve, but even so....)
I was wondering if this can be achieved by tweaking the set accoustic parameters files.
The first hurdle seems to be that a different file is used per operator - how do I know what my operator ID is?
If anyone can help or make any other suggestions I would be most grateful.

same question for me!
Anyone? (Please)
see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348329
doesn't really help and relates to bt headphones?
Bump? Anyone?
OK really no one knows anything? Just give me a few hints about how this all worls and I will tr and find time to play around with it and work out the rest.
IIRC set accoustic parameters runs on the first setup ? Does it run each soft reset ?
Any info would give me a useful starting point.
Cheers

How to increase BT audio ?

Hi all I went through endless posts and realized many people complain about the BT audio quality during calls being too low. But it seems no one has found a reg edit to play around with the volume control. It this still the case ?
I am using a Moto S9, the stereo sound is excellent, but the call auto is far to low...

Try the fixs that shogunmark has here. I use them both, and have excellent clear, loud sound with my Jawbone on my Tilt.
Hey Cushcalc, wow thanx! So I suppose when installing that volume.cab it just changes a reg setting, but you dont actually find an application where you change the volume, right ? cause I can´t find it anywhere after installing....
I will soon post, what the result is!

How to control the headset volume?

Hello,
been searching/investigating this problem for a while and still can't find a solution.
basically, when using the stock wired headset, I find the volume during a phone call far too loud and not loud enough when listening to mp3s / radio.
when in a call, using the volume button does not seem to make any difference.
any suggestions?
thanks in advance
Go to your music tab in Manila/TouchFlo. From the menu you can choose Audio Booster. This could solve your problem with the not loud enough mp3.
For the phone "too loud" problem you can go to the settings tab -> Sound. There you have two volume controls; Ringtone and System. Lowering the system could solve your problem. But lowering using the touch volume button (as your stock headset doesn't has volume controls if i'm right), should lower the sound during a phone call.
You can push the volume buttons on the left side of the phone. Problem with this is it jumps in big increments.
But it'll also change the volume of your ringtones as well. So what you can do is:
Settings tab -> Sound -> Turn "Single Volume" off
Now when pressing the hardware key, you'll see it bring up System & Ring Tabs. So you can control your music volume without changing the ringtone volume

I forget to mention this, thanks charlie
I have the following issue myself:
Regardless how set up (single volume on/OFF, System volume set to 20% or 100%) my in-call volume of voice, once the call has started is extremely LOUD, regardless of who calls and how loud they speak.
This is even more so, if I'm using the wired headset.
Using the side volume buttons during a call do show the volume animation AND the volume bar goes down, but the actual in-call volume doesn't change a bit.
This is maddeningly loud.
Is this how it should be working?
I have stock 6.5 ROM (WWE), no hacks.
Same problem here...
... any solutions?
I have single volume turned off, and regardless if I try to turn down "ring" or "system" volume, the headset stays extremely (uncomfortably) loud...
Cheers,
Jan
Having the same problem. Is there a fix?
Not sure if Volumex fixes it on the TP2, but on my TP1 and HD2 no such problem.
i have the same problem. Volumex doens't fix it.
It's incredible that there is no solution for this stupid problem.

My stock headset has a volume control, I gather yours doesn't have this feature?
no i haven't this features..
however i found the possible solution (it work for me), searching in other topic of this forum.
You mast edit the file audiopara3_TMO.csv (windows folder, it is hidden so you must use an explorer which allows to see the system hidden file like resco explorer).
basically you have in this file these lines:
F0,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL0,0,4000,4000,0,4000,C8,0,2000,0,780,FF9A,2580..
F1,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL1,1,4000,4000,0,4000,1F4,0,2000,0,780,FF9A...
F2,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL2,2,4000,4000,0,4000,5DC,0,2000,0,780,FF9A...
F3,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL3,3,4000,4000,0,4000,1388,FFFF,2000,0....
F4,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL4,4,4000,4000,0,4000,2EE0,FFFF,2000,...
F5,PHONE_HEADSET_VOL5,5,4000,4000,0,4000,61A8,FFFF,2000...
the most important value is the sixth (in hexadecimal) which is the volume value. if you use the volume level on the left side of the phone the volume of the the headset changes according the value reported in this file. I edit these values according to my "ears" ranging between c8(volume=200) and 61A8(volume=25000), and i clearly feel the change in the volume when i use the headset (you need an hex-decimal converter, there are several online)
actually (as suggested in other topic) you must point in the registry editor to this file, creating the value
HKLM\drivers\builtin\wavedev\AcousticFile and set this value to \windows\AudioPara3_TMO.csv (or rename the file as u want but with extention csv)
After editing soft reset.
In this file there are the other volume values for calls without headset, with the bt, and with the carkit. these values are in the lines
F6,PHONE_HANDSFREE_VOL0...
F12,PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL0...
F18,PHONE_BTHEADSET...
F19,PHONE_CARKIT.
i suppose that to change the volume values on must changes the sixth parameter as in the previous case.
This works for me, and solve the problem.
I link the original discussion which helps me to find the solution:

I know this is probably stating the obvious, but if you press the volume button and you see the volume bar you can always adjust it to your liking by swiping your finger up and down on the volume bar. This way you can get the inbetween volumes between too loud and too low.

T-Mobile TP2 HDtweak Audio Increase

In HD Tweak, I set Volume Control\Acoustic settings to anything above the 100db limited (Default) - and audio gets boosted accordingly, but the microphone doesn't work and I'm unable to talk to anyone.. anybody have the same issue or any workaround?
I just want to boost the audio levels of the device overall. Btw, I also tried the audio booster within HDtweak and it doesn't seem to do anything. I also tried the audio boost cabs in the HDtweak site and no change.
I applied this tweak also and same thing. It even screwed up my bluetooth headset and i couldn't hear anything. When switching to speaker you only heard slight static. Only time i could hear the caller was the internal speaker but caller couldn't hear me. Had to go back to default for it function normally again. Not sure of any work around yet.
Hmm...I changed mine to "Normal" and had no problems with mic.
Guess I'll have to test further.
Did you happen to apply any other changes prior to HDtweak (such as: SRS WOW, or applying the AudioPara3.csv file floating around)? These may be conflicting with the change.
Nope, I didn't have anything else running or installed. Tried it on both mine and my fiance's TP2, with the same results.
Right now I'm using that tweaked AudioPara3.csv, but I can't really tell a difference if there's a difference, maybe a slight volume increase.

Not 100% sure of what you've done, but suggest you revert everything back to stock (HDtweak all audio related changes to default settings, remove 'audio boost cabs' and the AudioPara3.csv file), and soft-reset.
Test that mic is working properly, then try HDtweak -> only the acoustic settings to "Normal".
Soft-reset and check for mic functionality.
Sorry about that.
I meant previously that I had reset all settings back to stock, and was just running the AudioPara3.csv tweak (which didn't seem to do much or anything at all).
I reverted back to stock again now, and am just running HD Tweak\Acoustic Settings\Normal. I tested the mic with a call and it does indeed work.
I can't really tell if the volume is louder though, I think it is, but it's just hard to compare. I had set it to Maximal before and could definitely tell a huge difference, so I guess that's what I'm aiming for, or at least intermediate, but for now the Normal setting will have to do. Thanks sir.
I have installed & run HDtweak on my TP2. I hear no noticeable audio level increase. I have set all volume tweaks to max. Is a reset needed to "apply" the tweaks?
I have downloaded and tried the audiopara3 full & light boost and it made my device to where I couldn't hear the other caller at all. But it did make the ringtone louder.
I un-installed and know its back to normal.
I am having the same problem with HD tweak.
The mic goes off each time i increase the volume in HD tweak.
Still waiting for a solution and searching daily for a descent tweak, (Pro2 tweak maybe)?
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I was wondering if this HDTweak problem was ever solved?
The only way I can get my unbranded TP2's music players (WMP, Audiomanager, Coreplayer and Pocket Player) working at a comparable volume to my iPod Touch is by using HDTweak's volume tweaks, but I can't hear anything when making calls through my handset or speakerphone.
I've already tried multiple extusb adaptors and various headphones, and the sound is still considerably more muffled and not as loud as my iPod Touch.
I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks!
