Help!! just got an Xda IIs - seems locked up - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi all, I have just got a Blue Angel Xda which is in mint condition but when powered up hangs with an unlit screen showing the O2 logo and some faint red writing near the bottom right of the screen which I cant read. It does nothing from this point.
I have tried pressing the key combination to enter bootloader mode and this appears to work with a blank white screen saying 'serial' and a version number - but what to do from there?
Can I reflash the software? does this problem sound easy to fix or is it destined for the bin? I have the docking cradle and some software with it - I would like to unlock it if possible but since I cannot access the PDA I cannot copy the unlock file to it.
Any help would be very appreciated - what software do I need to get it working again if I can?
Thanks in advance.

oh dear I was hoping I would be told it was simple matter by now - anyway in the mean time I have tried to get the phone to connect to active sync but it will not. I have put it in boot loader mode and it says serial on the screen which changes to USB when put in the cradle - still will not connect to active sync. I can in fact read the red writing on the screen which I said I couldn't above - it seems to be various version numbers of something.
I am using XP with the latest version of active sync for XP downloaded from MS yesterday.
All I want to do is reflash this XDA - I was told it was a simple thing but so far have had no luck even connecting to it.

Hi.
Try to do a hard reset first. You can learn how by reading the following:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_WM5_For_Beginners

No luck
Thanks for that but I never see the coloured stripes - maybe its not WM5? I can clearly enter boot mode according to that guide but otherwise just have a stuck unlit O2 loading screen. The soft reset only seems to cause a momentary blanking of the screen and then back to the same O2 logo. I have tried pressing the camera and record buttons a thousand times whilst pressing soft reset but nothing different ever happens.
isn't there a way to just reflash the rom?

Yes...of course you can reflash.
Download the rom from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382909
Enter bootloader mode, connect your Blue Angel to the cradle and run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe.
When the flashing is complete...hard reset your device.

Wow - thanks so much you are a genius - I followed the instructions with relative ease and my Xda lives again - I need to play on a bit with it now to learn how to use it but thanks a million.

Everything seems to be OK - WiFi seems a bit flakey with connecting but once connected behaves well - biggest annoyance by far is the fact that there is no sound at all, no matter what the format and volume the xda is mute!

Heh..you're welcome.
The 'no sound' issue could be a hardware problem. If you are sure that the software is ok and you should hear sound then the best scenario would be a replacement speaker.
I have just replaced my speaker with a spare from a qtek s200 and it's great.
BA is a great device

I am not sure the software is OK - the PDA is in mint condition it seems highly unlikely that the sound is faulty - its totally silent - wma makes no sound at all.
I wonder if there is a factory rom I could try just to be sure if its the software or hardware - I have followed links to various 'ship' roms and they seem to be dead now.
I plugged headphones in and they too are dead so it it probably isn't the speaker?
Also the camera button starts media player not the camera and I dont appear to have any access to camera functions - I think this could be a software thing perhaps a less ambitious version of WM.
As a beginner in this forum its really hard to find any actual files - there is much talk about this rom and that but where are they kept?
surely there is a stock rom that can try to be sure the hardware is ok?

Hmm..
Try this wm2003 rom(run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe):
http://rapidshare.com/files/111121136/BA_O2UK_14000_237_11200_ShipXdaIIs.rar
Are you sure that there's a camera on your BA? Because some BA come without a camera.

Thing is when I try the stock rom I end up exactly where I started with it frozen on the boot screen - it just wont seem to allow me to do a hard reset - I reflashed the 6.11 and works fine but again no sound and the camera says it cant initialise the hardware (definately has one)
I even flashed a T Mobile stock rom and it froze exaclt y the same as the O2 rom on the boot screen and wont respond to the hard reset buttons.
When i flash the WM6.11 the hard reset works just as it should so I conclude from this that the buttons are OK
I am at a loss as to what is going on - right now I am back to 6.11 but no sound and no camera again but I cant see me living with it like this

white screen non stop

hello to all,
I've searched many white screen problem threads, but didn't find any similar.
i am sorry if I missed one.
I am asking you for help.
I have spv m3100(hermes 100)
I bought it used and it had instaled htc europe wm6 rom. after few days I decided to flash black x rc.
before i did this, I made super cid with RUU_HERM_Unlock_v3a.exe and than also flash hard spl v7. everything was fine until few days ago when butons stop working. and at the end the green led was blinking all the time and green and red phone light was on all the time as well (also if phone was in flight mode).
I decided to flash official rom and I checked my bootloader it was showing ipl 1.04 and hard spl 2.10.
I flashed WWE 3.54.255.3 with radio 1.48.00.10 and everything went just fine at the end was written congratulation....
it costumized and make one or two soft reset and than I start to instal my favorite programs (few spb, smartmovie, dictionary...).
I do not remember why but after I set regional settings I did not soft reset with stylus but I put out battery when phone was stil on.
after that screen is white all the time. I made many soft resets, hard resets, try to enter bootloader but screen is all the time white.
when i turn it on and it is white I connect it to computer and it connects normal and i can also explore my files, but screen is all the time white.
I left it more than 20min without battery and try again but is stil the same.
after that I keep battery out of phone and leave it sop over the night. in the morning was stil the same.
i do not know what to do.
please help.
thank you and best regards
miha
since you mention a problem with the buttons, it *could* be hardware related. There is a thread up here where those problems (connections usually) are explained.
would you be so kind and tell me which thread you meant.
it seemed nothing wrong is with my phone only colors are missing (everything is white). i think also touchscreen is working. if I turn it off with power button (holding for few seconds), it beeps and you get message if you realy want to turn it off. because I know exactly where yes button is, the phone goes off.
I apreciate every help I can get.
thanks
I had a white screen issue .. do this in this specific order
1) make sure you have olipro latest version (use the search)
if problem persists
2) Use an WM5 rom and see if the white screen is happening
if problem perisists
3) Replace the battery (cheapest option)
if problem perisists
4) Its a hardware fault and you will have to send it off to get fixed or replace the unit .. sorry
alive again
I solved the problem.
thanks to this thread

Black Screen of Muerto!

during a rom upgrade some time back, my screen started to fade, at first very very dark etc, the just black.
I could not connect diamond to pc (never even came up as a usb device) it was dead!!
The phone was hard spl'd and had been through 20 or so roms without issues...
I have managed to re hard spl it,, put radio back to 25, and put an old simple duty rom...
it now active syncs, receives calls, etc
but screen is black????
any clues besides ebay??
Does the screen turn on at all when you Hard SLPed it?
NO, no lights on Unit anywhere
Not even below on the Phone or Home buttons etc, the unit has 0 lighting power at all times (after hard reset, after hard spl etc) , but it active syncs etc. and makes sounds??
Is it software or hardware? Strange thing is this happened after a rome upgrade, which makes me think software, but I have upgraded, re hard spl-d numerous times to know affect.
So if hardware, I can see new sreens on ebay for 20GBP delivered, and I was thinking of ordering them if they are not too hard to install?
Any input appreciated
it appears after a rom flash, now the screen seems to be actually light in black for awhile, so slowly patient is being revived but I still do not know how to get it back...
UPDATE: Screen came back but on low power (ie no backlight) and it is now stuck installing opera??: bug Microp Mismatch during installation. We are slowly getting there
ok - if it's software, the best way is mtty - as far as i can tell, it'll make sure everything is wiped out...
but from the sound of it... u said it went down while upgrading - so i might not be the software, coz while upgrading (%ages shown) software is being "written" - but it's not really "active"...
but worth a try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540290
good luck
Updates: Lights on Bottom coming on
I am having a difficult time getting MTTY to work, but the device white lights on the lower end of the screen turn on now. (when I seem to reset the device etc)
I can update the rom to other roms without problems, is there a reason to use mtty to update or should I just order a new screen?
UPDATE: Energy Rom works! but screen is very dim, no brightness, and I get this infamous Microp error???
looks i'm still screwed this is a hardware error...screen went black again...

I am the newist blue angel owner. Help me plz

hopefully my lurking in the ba forums makes a meaningful contribution.
well i have a few noob questions.
1. my ba keeps going to the four color bootloader screen and wont turn on it sometimes boots though.
2. to flash a custom rom do i need "hard spl" or the like for the ba.
3. where is the camera located? for the life of me i cant find it. maybe i got a model with out the camera.
those questions are not that nooby and looking at your post count i assume, you generally know your way around windows mobile devices.
1. the 4 colour screen - in contrast to popular belief - has nothing to do with the bootloader, because the blueangel's bootloader is a grey screen without backlight, showing Serial V2.0x and is meant for opening locked ports to be able to access the rom memory to flash roms there.
the 4 color screen is the boot screen and it can show you different things:
when you hard reset your device you will see that screen and use the menu to set what to reset, but i guess that is not the one, you are stuck at.
there are one and a half way to soft reset a blueangel:
- you can unlock/lock the battery compartment
- you can press the reset pin near the mic and the charger
in wm2003 there was no difference between those two methods, but beginning with wm5 i highly recommend proper resetting through the pin hole, because removing the battery causes the device to start without radio, or, depending on the rom, don't start at all. that is my guess how you got stuck there, you have to have a look at the numbers in the bottom right corner. if it shows R: NONE, G: NONE, you have to reset again.
2. fortunately, there is nothing like soft spl or hard spl needed for the blueangel. the only things needed for upgrading are a proper RUU and to put the device into bootloader mode. that bypasses any limitations. a detailed tutorial on how to upgrade from scratch, with all the download links is to be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4706441&postcount=2
3. the camera is located on the back, right above the battery, it consists of 2 circles, one is a mirror and one is the actual camera. there are also models without camera. also, if the lower button on the left side of the device is a windows media button instead of a camera button, that would be an indicator, that your device does not have the vga camera (which is lousy anyways )
with best regards

thanks chef tony you are the best. thanks for telling me that it is normal for the device to start with out the radio because that was making me worried.
yep my device does not have a camera
on upgrading do i have to super cid or cid unlock or can i already flash any rom radio?
oh, i forgot about that part, the cid unlock is also not needed, maybe you'd want to sim unlock your device, but that is done through a simple exe. i uploaded it for you here: http://rapidshare.com/files/332241357/xdadev_all_unlock-v1.6_138.exe.zip
and yes, you can flash any radio, just remember to take out the sd card and the sim card
well thanks for all of your help. i have one more question though. does the radio rom decide weather or not your wifi card supports wpa2 or hardware decide?
nope, the wifi only supports wlan B 11mbit wep and wpa-psk, no wpa-aes or wpa, also nor 54mbit wlan G, basicly the radio influences nothing but the speech quality.

actually i found out that the problem was that i was running wm 6 and wm6 does not support my encryption level that i was using but now i am running 6.1 so all is good.
one more question. when i am incall can i use my blue angel as a speaker phone? i am not seeing an option with my dialer. is this a dialer problem or does the blue angel just not support speaker phone?
some roms/dialer skins have a speaker phone button, but with any rom pressing and holding the green phone hardware button should do the trick.

Strange problem involving power button, screen and soft rest

Ok, this is a slightly weird but VERY annoying issue..
Today I stopped being able to turn my TP2 on from standby.
What actually happens is when I push the power button, the phone activates, but the screen remains blank.
Pushing the volume buttons turns it up and down ( I can hear the tones)
Hang up and other buttons work ok.
The soft rest button does nothing.
Pulling out the battery restarts the phone, and the screen then works fine. Power button can then be used to turn the screen off, but will not turn it back on again
So long as I then keep the phone awake, all is well, as soon as it sleeps, I am back to the same situation.
Problem number 3 is that the Charging LED is no longer lighting up, but the phone is charging as normal.
I have hard reset the phone, and also flashed the latest WWE ROM from HTC, to no effect.
Charging LED is off even when the phone is shut down.
errrm...
Any ideas???

OMG, i am having the EXACT same issue. powerbutton will sleep phone but not initiate the screen to turn back on, openeing keyboard lights up the keys, closing lights up the buttons under the screen. Ive also hard reset etc.
Any help!?!?
I'm gonna try task29 and see what happens, could that be what caused it? Thats the only new thing ive donw
hmm, also noticed that when booting android, i get an error message: Something used micropkit_lcd_ctrl. This function should no longer be used.
Since the problem deals with the screen/sleep could this be a hint?
BTW: task29 doesnt help at all =[ cant anyone help?
Are you using Windows Mobile or Android?
Hard reset and see if the problem goes away.
running windows mobile and android. Cant boot into android because I receive that error message previously stated... Hard reseting doesnt help =[
Running WM, and I've done 2 hard resets and a ROM flash.
Interestingly enough, the last thing I did before having problems was to run up and play with the latest version of Android, using the cab install version.
Is there some code for that (perhaps used for the power button to intercept the press) that could be remaining in rom after the reset???
Clutching at straws here...
Ok, found this at the end of the Android thread:

thanks a lot, man!
this pretty much solves it - mines' also working now
Note: Flashing hard spl seems to have fixed mine too!
Hmm... could this HSPL also cause a problem with not connecting the device to PC? (device is not reckognized)
Hard SPL Reflash
Hey there, did you just reflash Hard SPL and evertything was fine? or did you hard reset and reflash your ROM also after reinstalling Hard SPL?
Thanks!

I just booted up into my current rom(firestorm) and didnt let it sleep, plugged it in and flashed hard-spl, and it works now!! So dont hard-reset, just flash over your current rom.
Hmmmmm...
Just out of interest (as I'm always updating and playing with android) which version screwed with the phone?
Although it seems to be resolved, I'd rather not have to go though the bother of re-installing HSPL
I was using the cab install version
Project Android 031710v2.cab
Just to note further, before using it I had not installed Hard SPL, nor had I flashed my TP2 to any official ROMS

ATT Tilt 2 went to red, green, blue, white screen; how can I flash a cooked Rom to it

Hi,
Right in the middle of use, my ATT Tilt 2 went to a basic, dead screen with red, green, blue, and white bars that says Rhod300 32m SS-BC, etc.
The operating system seems have gone down--it won't respond to anything. Hard reset produces the same results.
Can I flash a cooked or official Rom back onto this? I think activesynch is needed for a normal flash and of course I can't use active synch with the phone in this condition.
I think probably what I need is an original ROM install. Is this possible with a normal Windows 7 PC and a dead phone?
I have so many Windows Mobile programs and peripherals that I am trying to avoid going to Windows Phone at all costs--at least until they have basic stuff like file systems, a way to port over notes, etc. Also need a hard keyboard.
Right now using an older Fuze, which works, but is slower, worse screen, smaller, and lacks some of the features I like.
Thanks for your help.
You sound like you're in the bootloader mode. Tri-color screen.
You can flash from USB or from SD at that screen. I'd recommend trying to flash a stock ROM - as it flashes everything. Assuming that works, hopefully you can flash back whatever ROM you were on.
The phone isn't dead if you're at the tri-color screen. It should say 'serial' at the bottom - when you plug in your USB cable, it should say 'USB' and install some drivers. Then with the RUU software that comes with every ROM, you should be able to flash it.
Phone won't reboot--stuck on tricolored boot screen
Hi,
Thanks so much for replying. I appreciate you pros helping us novices.
Just after I posted the first note, I pulled the battery and hit the power button, it rebooted, and everything was still there in the OS--working fine. But whenever the device had to be rebooted, I would have the same problem of it getting stuck in the boot screen. After that, for the last several days once in awhile, randomly, it would finally reboot from the boot screen after I pulled the battery and hit the power button. The rest of the time (about 5/1) it would just sit there in the boot screen no matter what I did. The "Serial"/"USB" thing would change when I plugged it in, but that's all.
Thought it was the OS, so at a lucky moment where the "pull battery, hit power button" strategy actually worked, I installed the latest official HTC/ATT Rom--it's the next to last one issued that ends in .4.
It was gorgeous and I got all excited--started installing stuff thinking my problem was solved.
Had to reboot to install some programs--now it is stuck again on the boot screen. Tried 30x again--no luck with the "pull battery/hit power button"
strategy. Sometime it would flash a white screen really quickly saying something like "Can't read image!" before going into permanent boot screen. The boot screen will switch from "Serial" to "USB" if you connect it to the computer. So, the problem doesn't seem to be in the OS--rather, in the ability of the device to "read" the OS from the boot screen.
I would be grateful if you or anyone else may know what's going on here, and any ideas on how to fix it. Is there any manual way to get it to read the OS from the boot screen when that's not happening?
I have two guesses (both of which may be wrong):
1. It may be something in the hardware is just worn out and is less and less able to read the Rom--any ROM. I got the phone new off Amazon for a profit of $50 ($.01 cost plus a refund for an older phone) in the summer of 2010 when it was already outdated. and WP was replacing WM. I've certainly gotten my money's worth after 18 months!
Of course we now know that a brand new ROM has the same problem as the older one--which suggests to me it's in the hardware. I'm sure the new OS and the stuff I installed is still there on the phone, but something it appears is not reading something in order to allow the boot up.
2. I have a squirrely free program called Rax Reset (from Windows Mobile Marketplace) that does a software-based hard or soft reboot from inside the OS. The very last time the device went down and didn't come back up, I had used that program to soft reset it. Might have been a big mistake. Could this program be causing the problem? If so, just one reboot would allow me to get rid of it or even hard reset to remove everything but the new OS--but can't get it to boot.
If it turns out the phone is just worn out, I've certainly gotten my money's worth.
I still love WM even with all its problems--and especially the newer Sense version. If this one is shot, I'm thinking about just buying a new Touch Pro2 on Ebay to avoid all of the sacrifices and backwards steps involved with Windows Phone.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Why are you crossposting? I read this EXACT same post in a thread just below this, in the same section. That's pretty low.. Crossposting across forums isn't welcome, crossposting within forums IN THE SAME SECTION is definitely not welcome.
Don't do it again.
Sorry, just trying to get help
Sorry, just trying to get help, not that familiar with the rules.
I searched on "bootloader" and found a thread (wrote a comment there too), but it's old....
Here is the thread. It doesn't really provide any solution.
HomeArrow
Legacy & Low Activity DevicesArrow
HTC Rhodium: Touch Pro2, Tilt 2Arrow
Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 GeneralArrow
issues with bootloader.
Either way, whether you know the rules or not - why would you think copying and pasting the exact same words in the exact same forum help you any more...
Anyhoo, have you tried the usual? Flash stock? Sometimes I've heard you have to flash several times, I never really understood that logic tho.
I'll try to reinstall the HTC/ATT Sense OS again. I guess you're saying active synch doesn't need to be working in order to do that. I'm at work now--have to wait until i get home. Nothing to lose at this point.
But I'm seriously wondering whether the problem is the OS install or whether there is something in the device that is supposed to read the ROM and start the bootup that is just wearing out.
Thanks.
"No Image File"
The quick little flash of white screen has "No image file" in blue letters--goes by so fast you can hardly see it.

That error message is 'normal'. Basically the phone checks the SD card for a file labeled "RHODIMG.nbh". If said file exists, it will flash from it. If no file exists, or no SD present - it continues loading bootloader and should say "Serial" at the bottom. This indicates that it's ready to be flashed. If you plug in your USB cable, it will install some drivers and then it should change to "USB" at the bottom instead of "Serial".
Now you should be ready to flash from a normal RUU. I would recommend flashing STOCK, because this flashes everything.
It might also be good to note a lot of people have experienced something similar - the phone getting "stuck" in bootloader mode, and only occasionally making it to WinMo. I'd guess it's failing hardware in some way shape or form, as none of my RHOD's or RAPH's have ever done this.
Good News--at least for now
Good news--I hooked it up to the computer with the USB cable for awhile and the Windows 7 computer did set up some drivers. For some reason after I disconnected it I reset it, and the reboot worked. Then I immediately uninstalled the squirrely reset program and removed it.
Everything I installed yesterday is working fine--I have soft reset it about 5 times now and each time it has rebooted. So I think maybe I'm back in business. Too soon to tell--but we will pray and keep our fingers crossed.
Thanks so much for your time and help. I don't know how to use the thanks meter but I would have if I could have.

You're welcome. Basically if I or someone else posts something helpful, click the "Thanks" button under that post.
15 hours later, Tilt 2 is still working fine on the newly installed Sense OS. I have rebooted freely (using the stylus button on the side) since removing the program "Rax Reset," and everything seems to be going well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and will end my contributions to this thread with a warning about using "Rax Reset."
Thanks to all.
