Hello folks,
Does anyone know of any Tor Anonymity Network implementations for Windows Mobile? It would be great if we had a Tor client for Windows Mobile which would allow anonymous browsing and such (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_(anonymity_network))
Any ideas? Please share
Why would you need this on a mobile device?

My thoughts exactly; it's too much work to troll forums, wikipedia, irc, etc on a mobile device..
Maybe so he can double post without us finding out his IP, better than what the wiki suggests which is that he like kiddie pics. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605067
I feel there are certainly very solid use cases for have Tor run on the Windows Mobile platform... I try to have as many functions of a full PC on my Windows Mobile device, and this is certainly one that wouldn't hurt.
I think this would involve a SOCKS proxy of some sort running locally, there is an application I found called Moblware SocksProxy v1.0 by Patrick Chasco of moblware.com but I think we need to put our heads together to actually make this work.
Any ideas?
Agreed, it is a needed tool. Some do a lot of mobile browsing using PDA's, not all the sites we want our "footprints" left with, same as on the PC.

May be we are from countries which has limited the access. Very simple and useful sites are prohibited.
So, is there any news of such an application on windows mobile?
I couldn't agree more.
Many people are doing research as work, often by visiting forums for observation, not neccesarily contribution or due to agreement to the contents.
In these cases, and even more so where someone needs to protect his identity for personal security reasons, there is a STRONG NEED for an onion networking client like TOR.
Obviously there must be people here that is closer in contact with reality than you get throug COD or MW or whatever all these wannabe games are named?
Some actually moves in these environments and everyones peer hasn't a backbone that allows Android (yet). MS environments are hard to kill some places... especial hot, sandy places where towels are considered haute coture... SIPRnet isn't available at all hotels you know, right?

You really had to drag up an old thread with some incendiary post? I'm closing this thread.
I have a desire to build a Windows Mobile medical application. I'm a doctor. The problem is that I am not sure I am going to be able to learn all that is necessary to build what I want so I'm hesitant to lay out 1200 bucks for the Visual Studio that MSFT advertises. AND quite obviously I"ve got a HUGE learning curve ahead of me. So is there anyway to obtain this software less expensively? Any other methods?

Microsoft provides Visual Basic, C#, and C++ Express Editions free for download. You can find them at microsoft.com/express/Windows .

As far as I know, you can't program for mobile with the express editions.
However, have you done a search on the xda forums?
There are plenty of people asking the same question.
There is also a XDA wiki page with information fro deveopment and programming, with several free and low cost programming environment.
Good luck!

Two that I use:
Sharpdevelop - Free IDE for VB.NET and C# (supports mobile devices via compact framework)
Basic4PPC - $50, uses a variant of BASIC (supports mobile devices via compact framework)
VS Express won't cut it.
As mentioned above, you require VS 2005/2008 Professional to target Windows Mobile devices. The Express version is useless.
Embedded Visual C++ 4.0 can be downloaded gratis from Microsoft's site. Don't forget the service pack to go with it. You have the choice of Win32, ATL or MFC programming models. It's free but expect a pretty steep learning curve.
If you download the SDK for the WinMo version of your choice, it contains several sample examples of code. Time spent studying these, is time well spent. They are excellent examples of 'How to do it properly' code.
Not with all the live stuff (would be nice though) but when I flip something up it goes into trash or closes it (think it is nice interaction) also with only pages/programs open shows up in screen slides with this interaction. Could possibly make winmo perform a little better. Sorry for bad wording and such but pressed for time at work Hope someone takes interest in this .
A really good simple app idea for Windows Phone 7
Its funny how one always has a great app idea after the event (read; http://www.windowsphone7.com/ineedt...2526pmodex253D1x2526gridviewx253D0#pbbh21054p),
An app I thought that would be really cool is a supermarket price comparison. The 'story' is that you visit you local store with your shopping list on your phone; the phone checks off the items on the list when you scan their respective barcodes, also as you scan the barcode it brings up the price for the product and the price from the competitor supermarket chains. I think this app would really sell well, and people will buy it because they know they will make their money back in their first shop
What do you guys think?
i would definitely use it
+1 !
but the problem is: who will update the price and the product list?
I believe there already is an API available (for the web -UK supermarkets) which does this for you...all a coder/dev needs to do is build the app.
an API for worldwide would be perfect... i think google provide such api for US/europe?
otherwise, maybe somebody can find an agreement with online stores to provide prices and models ...
really the idea is interesting and someone should start coding it (personnaly i don't currently have enough time )
I remember hearing of the Iphone porting of apps a while back
I was just wandering is anyone actually doing this? I know there is an windows equivalent every now and then but sometimes the apple app works better. I know I am a 6'4 guy that 270, and I love the Lose it App (my fiance has) and I know about vita one (no were near the build in database). And other things that help communicate with others and such. I am not going to apple been there 2x and always perferred windows mobile for the last 6+ years just wanted to ask this. If someone took it up to port apps I am pretty sure there would be hundreds or thousands of people willing to donate/pay for your hard work. Just a thought.
Problem with porting certain apps, is it requires you to actually have a iPhone
If you got some links to apps you would like ported, with screenshots and so on, I'd love to check it out, as porting apps is a good challenge to get familiar with the development environment.
Thanks I meant to put this in the development and hacking section in general not just windows 7 , here is a link to one of them I thought about creating a bounty or reward system for people to request apps and pay developers here to port them? Here is the link for one http://www.loseit.com/
really nice app because the database is constantly updated with nutrition facts from most of places we eat. I will have more later when I repo my girls phone for a while.
I would totally use this. I have the Shopaid app and it is okay, but doesn't update the price and such
The thing is with applications like that, is it depends more on the data that's available. Duplicating the interface into a Metro styled hub for weight-loss and exercise could be done in a day or two, but getting the actual data setup is a completely other story.
Beyond that, you can be totally sure people will duplicate that type of app.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_A4TdEV3Sk
Looks like someones already getting the ball rolling.
Someone is already developing that app actually, just go to Youtube and type "windows phone price check app" and you'll see. I can't post the link because I'm new here! The app looks amazing so far.
My company, with decades of experience with Windows development, is looking to break into mobile development in a big way with the launch of WP7. We have a couple of original ideas we are working on, but we would also like to officially port a successful iPhone app or game for some additional credibility.
I've approached a couple of different iPhone app developers with this proposal:
>>Let us port your app at our expense and we split the proceeds 50/50.
>>You retain all ownership and have quality assurance approval before launch.
I have tried every phrasing I can think of to convince them I am legitimate and that I want to create an arrangement where I take on 100% of the risk, but we share equally in the reward.
So far, not even a reply.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Jason
ebook readers
I curently have an HD2 and will probable end up with a WP7 device at some point when they come out. However I'm a big ebook fan and at the moment i'm tempted to get an android phone so that I can use he Kindle app. I'm waiting to see what developers come up with for WP7.
Do you think there's a good chance of a kinde app or something like it being made for WP7?
Cheers
Steve
I think so. I think the amount of sales will be suprising, and that there will be more hardware with WP7 on it than critics give it credit for. There are alot of peopl ethat HAVE an iPhone that want out. My father just got the AT&T Galaxy S (Captivate) and loves it, diching his iPhone 3G.
I think they would be silly not to. I'd prefer a Nook app on WP7 myself, but something to start would be nice!
Brandon Watson said they were worknig with developers who already had WM apps - that means B&N for sure. MS also has an eboo reader but it's unclear if they are going to bundle it with the phone (not likely). Based on the ease of writing WP7 apps I'd suspect all of the large developers to write a WP7 app and they are permitted to have their ebook stores.
Let's hope that you guys are right and there is a strong enough uptake to make all the big players developer readers for WP7. competition is a good thing after all!
Cheers
Steve
I relay like your idea…
After all because I had nearly the same
But I would give it more features…
X Online Service for the markets where they can register the products with barcode and price
-„POI“ Database with geodata of the markets
-Markets can enter special offers
X Online „Community“ section
-Users can Post reviews and vote for products
-Users can vote for markets / stores
-Users can enter alternate products
X Private section for Users
-You can make your grocery list an search for alternate products
-You can enter an amount of saving and a distance you would go for
So the system could give you a shopping tour
Now to the Phone App
X The App can download your grocery
X You can make a Live price comparison with the barcode
-The app could give you a market / store, it would consider your amount of saving and a distance you would go for
X You can do a live vote for Products and Stores
X You can enter a grocery list
X You can search for alternate products
X The app would use the geodata and GPS
SHOP NAV!
I thought of an app years ago called shop nav.
You type in your shopping list and your phone guides you around the store in the correct route. If your in your local then you know where everything is.but how many times have you shopped in a different store one only to find everything is in a different place. You spend most of your time doubling back on your self and walking up the same flaming isle 3 times!.Supermakets are getting bigger and if an app like this was possible it would save everyone time and ease shop congestion.
Was just wondering which websites people follow for their fix of WP7 news. I myself have found a couple of good ones, but none of them are big enough to be my only source of news.
Anyway, here's my list:
WMPowerUser - Great site that does a couple of app and game reviews daily and usually has the best coverage about WP7 news. Only negative is that sometimes they seem just a tad biased, but I guess that's a given with a dedicated site.
WP Central - Good site that also does at least one review daily. But also lacks in comparison to the amount of news found on WMPU.
PocketNow - One of the only mobile sites that does an equal amount of coverage for WP7 as the other platforms. Plus there's a filter above their article previews which means you can choose to only read about WP7 news if you want.
Best WP7 Games - Bad name, but a truly excellent site. I just found it a couple of days ago and it's my new favorite for game reviews and news. I have discovered a lot of great games I literally had no idea about.
So, what are yours?
nice find. knew about a couple of them, but best wp7 games looks cool.

WP7 App List looks great. It gives a very nice statistics:
http://wp7applist.com/stats/
AppsFuze gives you direct links to an application page + shows app rating.
Marketplace Browser is easiest to be found in Google It allows posting comments/answers.
Nice topic !
Personnaly, mine are MonSmartphone.net with it's nice design (it reminds me of my smartphone WP7). It covers main news about Windows Phone 7 (and WP7 enabled smartphones) and some games/apps weekly.
It has everything about WP7, even a marketplace. The bad : only in French :'(
I also like Engadget, really awesome, a reference ! Covers nearly everything about gizmos and technologies.
Finally, MobileTechWorld for his nice articles, reviews and news about Windows Phone 7
there is also mobilitydigest.com and wpcentral.com
Obviously these 3 websites:

Yes yes I use all of these sites and they are great for now, but I have a vision for something a lot greater
That's why I am actually releasing a new site: Windowsphonespot.com
Can't spill all the details right now, but I've already registered the domain and am hard at work on the design. Just know that when the site does open (Around January) it will be THE site to visit daily for all WP7 owners.

WMPoweruser.com has to tone down their ads though. I particularly hate that big block of ads separating the blog post and the comments section. Not to mention the irrelevant Goodyear tire ads (which Pocketnow also displays).
I know the ads support the site, but there's a point where too many ads make the ads themselves ineffective/irrelevant.
i agree. best thing to do is to have an adblocker installed. though it might be hard to find a good one for IE, but they're out there.
http://www.everythingwm.com/
I like to add two apps
1. app finder http://sorokoletov.com/ztop/
2. review reader http://wp7reviews.tomverhoeff.com
I personally check daily:
For news:
www.wpcentral.ccom
www.wmpoweruser.com
www.pocketnow.com
www.engadget.com (rarely)
For apps and stats:
www.windowsphoneapplist.com
OP should add in all/some of the links in to the first post and mods should sticky this! Could be useful to people new to WP7 and dont know where to find more info about WP7 news. This thread certainly did help me!
I'm working on making my website the premier site for WP7 game news and reviews. http://www.m-arcade.com/ - I haven't officially launched it yet. I plan to do that sometime next week, but from that point forward I hope to provide frequent game reviews (with video) and also relevant news.
One thing I did with my site was made it incredibly easy for people to log in and comment, both in the blog and the forums, which I hope encourages discussion that will lead to better game updates, and also more informed game purchases.
http://www.wpcentral.com/adobe-quit-development-mobile-flash-player-browsers
They praise it and claim it's the future and all mobile devices depend on it.
I may be wrong in this case, but as far as I remember they didn't claim it's the future. All they said was that still loads of websites use Flash and it's not gonna replaced with HTML5 any time soon.
Personally I don't give a damn about Flash support in mobile browsers. I barely use the browser anyways.

In all my time with Android, and I have a lot of time, I still actively flash my HD2, my girlfriend's MyTouch, and play with a variety of Androids just to know what I'm having an opinion about, I've only used Flash maybe twice. I mean, my biggest need for it was YouTube, but there are dedicated players, addons, and now HTML5 support... This hopefully will allow Adobe to use its resources on more important mobile aspects, such as our official reader which needs work.

It's not all about YouTube or other video streaming sites. There are several sites that offer services that utilize flash on their site, rendering them useless when your browser doesn't support flash. But like I said, I wouldn't care to browse these sites on a mobile device anyways. But it's not up to me alone.

But that's my point, my only need on the phone was for streaming, as any site worth any mobile browsing has a mobile version. What bothers me the most about these people who say they -MUST- browse these flash heavy sites is that they're the same people constantly using mobile bandwith as an excuse against things like the cloud. So, you can't transfer a 19kb .doc file, but you can browse extremely large flash sites? But I'm like you, I have no interest in most full sites on my phone anyway.
Whatever will be chosen in the future for devices, it's fine with users.
Until devices simply support these features.
So until Flash is not effectively dead in every website etc., it should be supported. And will be, on some platforms.
I know that many users here use the browser mainly for posting on forums,
but some other use it actually for something.
But discussing with idiocy is completely pointless.
I think users should be given a choice. If Microsoft doesn't want to support flash with their IE9, it's okay. But they should give companies like Opera or whatsoever the opportunity to develope their own native browser which may then support flash.
I for one mainly use the browser for searching purposes. I have dedicated apps for most other things I do on my smartphone. These apps offer exactly what I need and expect and do their job better than a website could do on such a small display. But that's me. Each to his own.

you could petition livestream to port there iphone app iphone has no flash yet it has an app so happy days for them. Flash would kill your phone unless your on a power cord and then you probhave a laptop with a screen that has an apropriate size to watch it without flacking out like flash does on android.
