I have to admit that it was by mistake (actually I was looking to get rid of the t-mobile phone skin) that I stumbled over a nice way to get 10MB more program memory out of the MDA Pro:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin
"Enabled"
Change from "1" to "0"
as a result of that, you cannot make videocalls anymore, but you can change this setting back within 2 minutes...(resco reg editor brings up the latest entry at startup so its right there, and then warm reset) and the ugly t-mobile skin is gone and replaced by the original nice blue windows skin.
I also squeezed 3 MB more by installing the ext.ROM of the qtek instead the one of t-mobile, since qtek is just 0.5MB vs 3.5MB from t-mobile. I did not really find a difference in performance.
Does anyone know of any similar "simple" tricks that would release more memory? at what ever price, but everyone has different needs, so it may be an option for some people?
check the WIKI!!! weve added alot of WM5 reg tweaks to it now, mainly making teh phone to what was expected when getting it out of the packaging!!
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
Actually I have (and that is where the the phone skin thing comes from)
but it did not mention that not only you loose the skin but also the video phone feature and gain 10MB..so actually I am wondering if this happened to me only because I am using the combination of t-mobile ROM and qtek ext.ROM??
and then: none of the reg hacks in wiki seem to free up some RAM (at least as far as I can tell..but I really am just a little better reg. user, I cannot write one line of code...)
When you say your program memory increased by 10 Mb, does it mean that you now have 55 Mb of memory avalable?
I have a Jasjar and i recently hard-reset my device. When the Ext.Rom was about to install, i soft-reset the device. My device i now 40% faster, and i am NOT exaggerating. All the bloatware from i-mate didn't get installed which is perhaps the reason the Jasjar is working as fast as any other device, SIMPLY SUPERB.
@Andy,
When i go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin ", i get 2 folders with further sub folders and one entry.
The 2 folders are:
1) Dialer (with further subfolders such as Landscape and Portait etc)
2) Progress
The last entry available is "default which has no value set".
I don't see any entry that plainly says "Enabled". Solution?
I've been harping on about the curse of the phone dialer skin since writing VJBigPhone. I was forced to install the skin etc for compatibility, and it makes such an enormous difference, slows things down so much. If you don't care for the bubbly buttons, remove it ASAP. You'll have much faster screen rotations and generally feels snappier.
Also clears up unsightly rashes
V
Trust me, after resetting the device prior to Ext.Rom installation, my Jasjar is now BLAZING fast and in now way is this an exaggeration.
@universaldoc:
you see, I have two more entries on that page. below this default string comes the dword "enabled" entry that has to be switched from 1 to 0. and below that one comes the string phcanhtc.dll
What I am observing, is: I did an installation prior to this one, with no ext ROM. that gave me the same amount of program memory as I am having now. the difference is only, that now I have some functions that were missing when I did not install ext rom, for instance I did not have the voice commands. and also not the video calling, same as now.
So what I think is: since you did not install the ext ROM, maybe that is the reason why you do not have these registry entries....because there is nothing to disable, since it was not installed at all? what do i know...lol..
and to answer your other question: my MDA Pro has 50MB of program memory, this value remains unchanged. But, with the skin enabled, I had 17MB (!) after warm reset...(1900 contacts, a few today plug.ins)...and it was hardly viable. And now i have 27....so much better.
Also: i have the latest (german) t-mobile rom (1.20), i find it much more stable than the first one which was terrible. and the qtek wasn't bad either.
(german version too)
Well after taking a rough guess into what all the bmp's are for the dialler and that awquard quickdial pad thing i get around 1.4mb of images the the portrait and landscape backdrops 500k between them, shame they aint removed totally!! that would give 2mb more rom to use.
Someones got to sort a nbf editor out! *wink plz!!! i'd really like to be able to make a rom with all MY apps and layout in it
phcanhtc.dll is surlly whats causing it, what else does that call on, can anyone dicect it?
I also tried a rotate whilst on the phone screen and its dam near instantanious
and tbh i actually quite like this skin, simple, does what it says on the tin.
I use pocket informant 2005 for dialling out normally non frequent numbers, and use the phone app to just do most common numbers from the call history.
non the less its an odd way to get more performance, i like it
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the response.
You might be absolutely right. Since i didn't install the Ext. Rom in the first place, i don't have these entries. Also, at present, i have 27Mb of program memory free which is exactly what you have I was thinking that you actually got 37Mb of memory free which IMO would be Fan-bloody-tastic!!!
Thanks anyways.

Hi AndyME
Thanks for this tip. I applied this to my Dopod 900 (Universal sold in Singapore) and my RAM increased from 20M to 27M.
I might just do a hard reset and then follow universaldoc's suggestion of soft-resetting before any Dopod bloatware installs.
On the whole I am happy with the performance of this device as it is now, especially since I upgraded the Radio to 1.60.00.
i a mglad it was useful for you. you can always check the difference between this way and the reset as per universaldoc and see what suits you better.
Hard-resetted my jasjar
Soft-resetted before extRom installation
Result is: everything is working better, from signal level, to phone calling, to internet browsing. Thanks for the tip!
I'm interested to know you guys. I've always done the ext rom skip, but do you find it has any effect on your use of Voice Command. I'm suspicious why someone who didn't do the skip, but is using the same headset, doesn't have the problem I have, whereby the audio gateway is left open and I can't close it by pressing the headset button.
V
when I once skîpped ext rom, i noticed that voice command seemed not to have been installed (at least I did not see it in the programs)
now, that i just disable the phone skin, i feel i get all the benefits the others are reporting, but i have full voice control support.
but i have installed a qtek ext rom on a t-mobile rom, as mentioned above, and the qtek is just 500 kB while t-mobile is 3.5MB
so it is probably anyway difficult to say what is the content of the various ext roms, they can be quite different i would guess...
I have actually 30mb on reset, if I disable my auto starts, it drops down to 26mb on boot up when I am running:
1. M$ Voice Command (cant get rid of the old, but dont use it)
2. SPB PP (beta 3.1), SPB Diary (latest), and SPB Weather
These are my today plugins and startup folder.
I also skipped the extended rom entirely, and then selectively installed the bits I wanted using total commander to copy the specific extended rom items i wanted, and the phone wasnt one of them, I dont know anybody with the video bit anyway.
Dont use the antivirus...
I think your bluetooth problem might be rectified by te .cab noted as SSD BTUR_Patch_for_BT.
Without the extended rom, and few of the other registry tweaks, I get awesome memory, awesome startup, awesome screen rotations, never hangs except for 3rd party apps, never misses an sms, rings at the beginning of the first ring.
Yes, I agree, the phone video things sucks heaps of resources, skip it if you dont use it.
Mind you, after a day of hardwork, wifi, internet, lots of mail and playing, it does drop down towards the 20 - 15mb mark, but overall, I am happy with it...
So in summary, just skip the rom entirely, and consider just your bluetooth patch file.
simon, what other registry tweaks are you recommending?
Hi all,
allow me to jump in on this subject. Just did another hard-reset this morning to build a new system fromscrap as I had a huge problem (memory was used by whatever and I did not get further then the today screen).
I am using the Jasjar 1.13.53 WWE and have an empty ExtROM. I noticed that if I only install the .cab for BT (SSD_BTUR_Path_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa) I get stuck without the smart-dialing. For me it only starts working if I install to more .cab files :
Signed_eCall_vMail.sa and
Default_Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed
I am having a system which has 30 M free on startup, but only until I start using ASync to get my contacts and calender in, the system immediately drops down to 24MB after that.
Do You guys know another way of getting the smart-dialling working except for the above mentioned .cab-files ? I do not need the video-call at all, wouldn't miss is at all, so would very much like to get more speed excluding it at all. On the other hand I do not like the original dial-skin and would like to overwrite it with the ones from Vodafone.
Is such combination possible ?
Ruud
Ruud, I am afraid, I cannot help you..but it is always so frustrating to get no replies...
i have a VPA iV too (MDA Pro was lent for 3 months only and i will have to return it), i understand what you are talking about, the voda skin is sooooo cool...i asked VJ and he told me that:
"You can grab themes by find the *.tsk files in the \windows\ folder. While you're there, grab all the *.gifs and *.bmps that you can. You should be able to reassemble all the themes from there."
since this was only yesterday, i have not had the time yet to do it. i will try though.
also: on buzzdev.net there is a downloadable skin that is basically the voda skin..unfortunately when i installed it over the default windows skin (the naked blue one) it did not really work. try for yourself...
I have so far kept the vodafone installation as is, it has a very small ext rom of just 2-300 kB, and just removed the skin enable command in the registry which brought 10MB same as on the MDA Pro. (and I do not see the beautiful phone skin anymore...
Why actually did you not keep the voda installation? I think the new (german) t-mobile 1.20 is more stable, but it is definitely better than the old t-mobile was. is it your feeling that jasjar is better than voda?
Hi AndyME,
First of all, I have a vodafone because of my contract with them in Germany, but I am actually a Dutch guy living in Russia. There is no need for the German language, actually I do not like any other language then English for everything in electronics, specially software.
My hope that the device would be multiple language was gone at the moment I unpacked my package. So I used the website here to change to english.
I have all the .gif, .jpg and .bmp from the vodafone installation kept for backup purposes, but had to change them to fit to the iMate size. Also not all the transperency is working like I wanted.
Do You know the .cab file necesssary for just changing the skin ?
It is quite some work to install each of them seperately, softreset and if they do not do the trick, do a hard-reset before You try the next. I found out that the combination of the two I mentioned before helps, but maybe I need this DiscoButton as well ?
I have asked this question before, but did not get an answer, does somebody know what thedifferent .cab-files are for ?

Hi all,
I've been a reader (lurker) of this forum since the 8125. I have a Hermes 100 from Cingular which I have played around with, as shown on this forum. I am trying to create a fast, multimedia phone, that runs on the Hermes. I am not a techie, like many of you who know how to program, but I do admire what you've done. I could use your help......
Recently, post the last HTC upgrade, I added Black Satin, the Iphone Slider, and SPB Shell 1.5 , Diary and Pocket Plus 4.0, just to see how things work. Some thoughts (and the questions for which I seek an answer).
Do like the Black Satin add-ons, though Black was never really my color, and the HTC Shell and Diary are nice (though with Pocket Plus, gets very bloated)...still, it runs very slow....how can I:
1. Find a basic HTC shell?
2. If I wanted to ad in an interface, would you suggest the SPB Shell 1.5 + Diary or do you think Pocket Plus 4.0 is smooth, fast and multi-talented?
3. Opera or Explorer?
4. I still cannot watch Youtube, and some websites that require flash to show videos do not like Macromedia 7.0 Flash..they say "upgrade!" Thoughts?
5. I downloaded and installed The Black Shadow Video Dial Configuration, to use 3G video phone calls. But, as I am on the Cingular network, neither my brother (with the Tilt, unlocked) or my Hermes can make video calls on the network. Advice?! This would be super cool.
6. Are there "optimal" cingular internet settings that allow fastest access, or unblocked ports for 3G vid calling, streaming etc?
7. what is the best solution in terms of Iphone like scrolling and unlock? I know 4.0 Pocket Plus has it...its just "ok"...I tried to install Slide2unlock, didn't work for me.
8. I also used RealVGA, but didnt' notice a considerable difference. Is it not there, or am I dreaming?
9. Finally, should I just sell this Hermes 100 (its a "new" refurbished one from AT&T, got it yesterday) and buy a Tilt, or can I do everything I want on this baby!? I've had this type of phoen for a half a year now.....
Wow, a lot of questions, and I know you folks could say "read the 500 pages of the forum"...trust me, I've spent hours in these threads. I would appreciate your help, and I've honestly been trying, but it gets a little too technical for me past installing Cabs and following instructions, to be honest. So, any help you can offer would be VERY greatly appreciated.
All the best, George
Ok, here are answers to some points of yours:
4) There is no flash enabled browser for Windows Mobile. Only workarounds exist for watching the flash videos off Youtube and similar pages. So you will not be able to see those pages in near future.
7)iPhone scrolling - I use fTouchFlo - it works in all of the programs but has its flaws, I use s2u2 on my Hermes with no problem. One more thing to note is that Hermes touchc screen is different form iPhone touch screen and what we have (including SPB scrolling) are workarounds that still need a time to mature.
8) RealVGA? You are missing the point - both Hermes and Tilt have QVGA screen - there is no way to get it to VGA (simply because your screen has four times less pixels than VGA screen). It will not work because it is intended for VGA devices not for QVGA we own.
This is a developer forum - if you want less technical focus you can head to HOFO or other fora... I know lots of people in here read a lot... but they do not seem to think about what they read and then they tend to have really stupid questions. If all you want is media phone go for iPhone - there will not be 3G functions - but the scrolling works - there is no hassle with third party applications and everything can be done in only one way - the Apple way. The WM platform lets you do much more but it comes at price - in here I think you should get your feet wet in some basic techie stuff other than installing CABS. Hope I helped at least little...
PS: I had a hard time being new to the WM too - it needs time - I think right now you do not know what exactly you can expect from your device.
Well, first of all:
Thank you for your reply. True, it is called XDA Developers....and I am, in fairness, not. And as for an Iphone, wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pool - I like the flexibility of this HTC WM6 phone I have...but frankly apart from some BASIC at the age of 9-11yrs, programming is not a forte ;-)
I'll try your solution to the scrolling.....and of course, I'll keep reading, but I figured (a. You folks know this stuff so well, and b). I can't be the first person to come in with these questions. After all, It's not like I'm not trying,...I flashed something like 20 roms yesterday testing them all out! - on that note, I love your benchmark thread.
Anyway, thank you for your help and the help of anyone else who gives it!
best, George
Ehhm to put some things straight...I know even less programming than you do I have a very same opinion of an iPhone - this thing can not be called "smart" phone at all. What you stumbled upon is the fact that there are two basic groups of users of our PDA phones - first ones are user tha want their phones just work - they are not interested why something does not work, they just want a certain standard to work and as long as it does they are happy. Second group is geeks like me (and the majority of users of this forum) that are just happy to upgrade their phones to whatever newer and try it out. The problem is that for example cooked ROMS have bugs/issues (not that official ROMs have none) - issues vary from small glitches, memory leaks, not functioning buttons to random hardresets. If you go way of the cooked ROMs usually you will have to spend more time with your devices than the first group of users just to fix glitches. The other thing is that cooked ROMs and applications there can enable you do much more with your phone - for example resource hogging HTC Home plugin was not intended for Hermes, touch scroll ability as well and we can continue - but folks over here made it possible - that is what makes this forum so great. Butif you choose to go this way you will have to read, read and read again - because nothing is perfect. Our devices have limitations too - hermes processor has computing power roughly equal to Pentium 100 MHz (that is over ten years old processor for desktops) - so some tasks are hard to be adapted (that is why most of the programs we use are watered down versions of desktop programs - as well as screen size is quite limiting for browsing and so on - if you want a VGA screen than you have to count with: your device being a tad slower (4x more data to be displayed over QVGA) and also bigger battery drain (4x more pixels to power up). Said that you can get some of the things you ask for in your questions, but some are still a challenge...
Use vtap for youtube viewing. Just google it.
Opera. Definitely Opera.
Well, AT&T does not support video calls so unless you go out of the country its useless to you. Besides, your phones dont even have the front facing camera, so it would be hard to do anyways.
Mcorrie:
Thanks, I think right now, I am at:
1. A Basic Shell for speed and customization (not sure which yet)
2. Web Browser: Opera
3. YouTube Browser: VTap
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo or s2u2
5. Additional Scrolling: Possibly Touch Commander
6. Maps: Google Maps
7. Wifi Searching: WIFIFOFUM
8: Microsoft Office
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Unknown
10. Camera/Video Program: Unknown
11. Media Player: Unknown
As for Video Calling, I figured there was a way to bypass the Cingular restrictions, but I have not found it yet. After all, it is a pipe...so it should be possible, right?
Some more from me:
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo or s2u2 (s2u2 is only for unlocking! no other scrolling so you can use both))
5. Additional Scrolling: Possibly Touch Commander or Slither's Flash cube (the same effect, but free)
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Schen's Kaiser dialer 2 (or something like this)
10. Camera/Video Program: CoolCamera - this one is commercial, but best there is
11. Media Player: TCPMP 0.81 - freeware plays nearly everything: audio video, with plugin even .flv and so on...
Karhu,
Dakujem for the additions: I am also adding Radio 1.48 as that seems to be the most stable for Brooklyn, NY according to a June report....I'm going to test myself, but as of now:
1. A Basic Shell for speed and customization
2. Web Browser: Opera
3. YouTube Browser: VTap
4. Scrolling: TouchFlo and s2u2
5. Additional Scrolling: Slither’s Flash Cube or Touch Commander
6. Maps: Google Maps
7. Wifi Searching: WIFIFOFUM
8: Microsoft Office
9. Phone Dialer (includes 3G Video??): Schen's Kaiser dialer 2
10. Camera/Video Program: CoolCamera
11. Media Player: TCPMP 0.81
Now, I just need to figure out what else needs to go in this thing! Trying to avoid bloat, but don't want to leave out needed functionality! I think maybe I'll find someone's mostly stripped down Rom and just add in - its a start.
More comments:
I think if you are looking for less bloated system you should stick with basic WM5/6 look - Wisbar advance that can customize the whole look of the system runs on the top of the basic shell and thus takes up some precious RAM space. The same goes for bells and whistles like s2u2 or slither's Cube - function of s2u2 is to lock/unlock the device - but a part of the program runs in background as a service and consumes 200k of RAM even when you use the device - it is not much but as you proceed to customize the device the amount of bloat grows.
I think you should also look for some decent task managers: I personally like wktask and Quickmenu, but pBar is also nice. HTC xButton is quite a bloat in this matter. You should think what is the main purpose you will use your phone for - CoolCamera is nice but due to hardware limitation of the Hermes those pictures will always look....like taken by a phone.
When it comes to extra lite ROMs beware - they tend to have memory leaks and some Super storage ROMs even random bricking - hardreset needed to make them work again.
Several other variants:
Peek Pocket in wifi scanner (just one small exe)
Core Player instead of TCPMP (Core player is the commercial succesor of freeware TCPMP)
You should also consider some backup program if planning to fiddle more with your phone:
If you want to save your messages, mails, contacts and stuff go for free PIM Backup.
Hope that helps a little
1. Find a basic HTC shell?
What do you mean? If you want HTC TouchFLO-like shell (the basic one is TouchFLO 2D), get ThrottleLauncher. You can install TouchFLO, but you need to flash your ROM. You also can use Spb Mobile Shell 2 with Diamond theme (search Diamond theme for Spb Mobile Shell in xda-developers forum)
UPDATE : Now it's possible, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541750 It's the TouchFLO 2D from HTC Touch2 (HTC Mega).. Download the "PATCHED MANILA FOR WM6.1 and non-HTC devices" if you have 6.0 or 6.1
2. If I wanted to ad in an interface, would you suggest the SPB Shell 1.5 + Diary or do you think Pocket Plus 4.0 is smooth, fast and multi-talented?
Spb Mobile Shell!
3. Opera or Explorer?
I usually use Explorer for short time browsing, and Opera Mobile for long time or serious browsing, because we must wait for about 5 seconds for Opera to boot up
UPDATE : With Opera Mobile 10, the Opera is not slow anymore, I'm currently using Opera Mobile 10 as my only and favourite browser on my Hermes..
4. I still cannot watch Youtube, and some websites that require flash to show videos do not like Macromedia 7.0 Flash..they say "upgrade!" Thoughts?
Download the YouTube app, you cannot view on the Windows Mobile browser..
UPDATE : With SkyFire browser, you can..
7. what is the best solution in terms of Iphone like scrolling and unlock? I know 4.0 Pocket Plus has it...its just "ok"...I tried to install Slide2unlock, didn't work for me.
Upgrade your Windows Mobile to Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5
UPDATE : Use Slide2Unlock2 (S2U2), it works on my Hermes (running official WM6 ROM)
8. I also used RealVGA, but didnt' notice a considerable difference. Is it not there, or am I dreaming?
Hermes's screen is QVGA (320x240), so you cannot force Windows to view VGA (640x480)
9. Finally, should I just sell this Hermes 100 (its a "new" refurbished one from AT&T, got it yesterday) and buy a Tilt, or can I do everything I want on this baby!? I've had this type of phoen for a half a year now.....
No, I think Hermes' body is more sturdy than the Tilt (Kaiser)
Epic necro. Another month and a bit and you'd have had 2 years!
Timing is everything when replying to a thread. Especially when it's almost 2 years old!
Hi,
It looks the iPAQ 614 has built the austoscaler of CPU speed. The CPU clock is changed base on load (I guess). For sure the CPU is operate with maximum speed only when the iPAQ is on power supply (I have proved it making video benchmarks).
I would be grateful if somebody could tell me how to disable this feature?!?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
You can try the Pocket Hack Master this software allows to change frequency of the chipset, there is also option to disable internal auto scaler. You can use your iPAQ choice points for downloading software that came with the iPAQ device, just register your voucher number on the site www.ipaqchoice.com
One remark: since you've got a key for Pocket Hack Master download the newest version from the software homepage and register it with a key from ipaq choice.

KalifPL
Thank you KalifPL.
It is true Pocket Hack Master is working fine. Also XCPUscaler is working as well. I prefer the XCPUscalar so I use this. During using both mentioned software I found two disadvantages:
1. when the application is launched the BatteryStatus always show 100% of CPU usage.
2. Sometimes it happens the CPU clock is different then set in XCPUscalar or in HM.
Also I noticed the performance results are a little bit lower when I use 520MHz set by software then the 520MHz set by iPAQ (for ex on extended power supply).
Now I am looking for software which is implemented in the ASUS devices. With this software you can set the different modes for CPUs, like: autoscaler, turbo and etc.

Well, this is my first post here and i am good at hacking and modifying S60 Platforms and the iphone hacking as well,
The i780 is not my first WM but it will be the first to tamper with.
How can i adjust the speed of the device like done on the Diamond Tweaks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265
???
can i use the same setting to the i780 as the Diamond? would like to increase the speed of the device and increase battery life
on the diamond tweaks, this is mentioned
"Using Advanced Config, change File system cache to 8mb and file system filter cache to 131072 "
Can i do that to the samsung?
Thanks for your help in advance
Come on guys, all the professionals here and no one is able to answer the simple question ?!?!?! i need ur help
that tweak is only for the touchflo 3d interface that htc phoens have not hte actual running speed.
As far as i know there is no cpu clocking program for the chip in the i780.
The i780 has an Marvell CPU with dynamic frequency, can you read here:
http://www.marvell.com/products/cellular/application/pxa310.jsp.
You can see it also when you have TCPMP installed. When you start TCPMP and go to options-settings it shows you the clock speed. Directly after the program start it shows 624mhz, when you wait a while it shows 208mhz.
Any tweaks to increase battery life?
change backlight to turn off early and change it to the dullest setting.
there is a 3300mA battery you can buy but it makes it thick at the bottom.
thats 3.3 times longer battery.
i dont mind i got 2 batteries with mine and a case for charging the battery outside of the phone.
I really like the idea of having a "slide to answer" phonecanvas - so one don't by accident ignore or answer the phone.
Sadly though, what I've tried - it seems WAAAY to slow.
If I get an incomming call, the phone starts to light up... then showing the canvas...
If I then put my finger on the slider, and start sliding - nothing happends for the first second... I need to let it "load" the slider completly - and then it's ready for sliding..
all in all - this whole procedure takes so long - the phone might return to the answeringmachine...
So, I'm wondering if there's any lightweight "slide to answer" canvas'es out there - that work on the Diamond?
You must have some serious problems with your phone. Canvas is working, and is working normally, i.e. without any delays and such. I recommend flashing some other rom with slide answer ans trying it yourself. For good measure you could backup your data and clean the storage too...
I've tried a few WM 6.5 ROMS, but that ALL have the same sluggish behavior.
Currently I'm using my own WM 6.5 from the GSM kitchen - which seems really fast in all programs - but still a bit slow when loading the phone canvas... and the slider
Manilla is for example working REALLY fast - close to no delay at all (That I can notice anyway)
It's like the phone has a lot to do when there's an incoming call... Like it has to startup alot of software?
Maybe someone has a video of how fast the phone is - when there's an incoming call?
I've tried upgrading my radio aswell - but that didn't make any difference.

HTC Phone Canvas or Tachi are slower on 6.5 ROMS. Try it on 6.1, you will note the diference.
EDIT: If you don't use video call it is better to use default winmo 6.5 with some tweak to lock you device by default. Or use it with S2U2.

That's my advice, too!
Disable the HTC PhoneCanvas through Registry and use S2U2 with the Slide to answer option instead! It's way faster then HTC Slide to answer!
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin]
"Enabled"=dword:0
Ok, I just gave S2U - and I must admit - it's WAAAAAY better!
I disabled the HTC canvas using the registry fix...
Sadly the Windows answer-canvas will pop-up just before the S2U (will only be visible for under half a second...) Is there any way to completly disable the Windows answer canvas - and ONLY use the S2U?
Iconsoft Phone Extension (PhonEx) is the best phone dialer (for me), but it is not free
It also has some kind of slide to answer but in UP direction.

No, that's (currently) not possible!
I think in S2U2 settings you have something like "On wake up delay start of S2U2". The value is in ms. It's set to 500 by default i think. I didn't experiment with this, but try to set it to a lower value. It just might make the default windosw answer screen "invisible" ..

No, it won't simply start instead.
Well wierd. I had it set to 300ms, and you could se the windows answer notification for...well, around 0,3 sec. Then i set it to OFF, and if my eyes arent cheating me, it shows up faster. The windows notification just blinks once under s2u2, and that's it..
