lightweigth phonecanvas - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

I really like the idea of having a "slide to answer" phonecanvas - so one don't by accident ignore or answer the phone.
Sadly though, what I've tried - it seems WAAAY to slow.
If I get an incomming call, the phone starts to light up... then showing the canvas...
If I then put my finger on the slider, and start sliding - nothing happends for the first second... I need to let it "load" the slider completly - and then it's ready for sliding..
all in all - this whole procedure takes so long - the phone might return to the answeringmachine...
So, I'm wondering if there's any lightweight "slide to answer" canvas'es out there - that work on the Diamond?

You must have some serious problems with your phone. Canvas is working, and is working normally, i.e. without any delays and such. I recommend flashing some other rom with slide answer ans trying it yourself. For good measure you could backup your data and clean the storage too...

I've tried a few WM 6.5 ROMS, but that ALL have the same sluggish behavior.
Currently I'm using my own WM 6.5 from the GSM kitchen - which seems really fast in all programs - but still a bit slow when loading the phone canvas... and the slider
Manilla is for example working REALLY fast - close to no delay at all (That I can notice anyway)
It's like the phone has a lot to do when there's an incoming call... Like it has to startup alot of software?
Maybe someone has a video of how fast the phone is - when there's an incoming call?
I've tried upgrading my radio aswell - but that didn't make any difference.

HTC Phone Canvas or Tachi are slower on 6.5 ROMS. Try it on 6.1, you will note the diference.
EDIT: If you don't use video call it is better to use default winmo 6.5 with some tweak to lock you device by default. Or use it with S2U2.

That's my advice, too!
Disable the HTC PhoneCanvas through Registry and use S2U2 with the Slide to answer option instead! It's way faster then HTC Slide to answer!
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin]
"Enabled"=dword:0

Ok, I just gave S2U - and I must admit - it's WAAAAAY better!
I disabled the HTC canvas using the registry fix...
Sadly the Windows answer-canvas will pop-up just before the S2U (will only be visible for under half a second...) Is there any way to completly disable the Windows answer canvas - and ONLY use the S2U?

Iconsoft Phone Extension (PhonEx) is the best phone dialer (for me), but it is not free
It also has some kind of slide to answer but in UP direction.

No, that's (currently) not possible!

I think in S2U2 settings you have something like "On wake up delay start of S2U2". The value is in ms. It's set to 500 by default i think. I didn't experiment with this, but try to set it to a lower value. It just might make the default windosw answer screen "invisible" ..

No, it won't simply start instead.

Well wierd. I had it set to 300ms, and you could se the windows answer notification for...well, around 0,3 sec. Then i set it to OFF, and if my eyes arent cheating me, it shows up faster. The windows notification just blinks once under s2u2, and that's it..

SPB Mobile Shell 1.5 Released

I didn't see this posted anywhere here in the WM 6 forum, so I thought I would as the new version, 1.5, now supports WM 6. For anyone interested, here is the link:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
They made some nice changes and the new Professional Now screen is pretty cool.
yeah pretty cool...tryin it out on LVSW's 6/16...no problems so far
running smooth on schaps 3.30c
The last time I used any spb software, it drained my battery real fast.
Any such problem with the new verson?
this version of mobile shell is no different from the last one.. not worth it..

This version of Spb Mobile Shell v1.5 Final (Build 2894) compared to the last one is worth it for me as the phone ringing unable to answear freeze ups are gone. Battery is fine and i have tested all the shell's to date!

unfortunately it still is a RAM hog... of almost 1MB...
Exatcly my point Walshieau .. plus I'm more of a WAD guy anyway, so I have no need for Today plugins unless I run them on virtual pages.. which really chews up memory .. lol
We still have plenty of free memory so whats the point, i don't see anything slower using it and personally i got used to it and its very handy for me
I have to say I really like this app and don't mind the 1 meg it uses ( I have plenty to spare!) It's just a great productivity tool for my phone and it has a lot of improvements over version 1.0 not just the bug eradication!
Caused my trinity to lock up after being left for a while (WM5).
Went back to my v1.0 and all is ok.
Can't understand why they don't allow more photo dials on the photo dial tab. ie two rows of photos
i don't understand why there aren't choices for any app in the mobile shell today row....
OR..
why their aren't ANY 'home' app choices (there are 8 or so chosen for you.
........unless of course i'm missng something...again!
home screen u can choose your apps. press n hold those u dont want and remove, more options will appear. press and hold, choose pin for those u want 2 keep.
those that appear are those recently used. if u want an app to appear, use it, close it, then choose it and pin it.
will download new version n c how it goes.
thank you Simon!

Probably due to the lock up you didn't have enough time to play with it... they do now allow you to add another 2 dial tabs so you can have 15 photo dials instead of the old 5 in v1.0
thanx for the info, I used this app for a while. new version installed, but till now I did not find any difference... and I had no problem on WM5 and 6 versions. it is stable, and fast.
Unistalling...
Hi all.
I've tested the app, and works fine for me, but i have one issue...i unistall it, and now when a press on/off button and then press again after a while to get the PDA on, i get the screen locked, and i must unlock...
can someone say me how to disable this? how to disable the lock when off/on...
Thanks.
thier both cool
I run the old version, its absolutely cool and work very well on my herms wm6. I must admits the old version is almost the same to the new 1.5version.
Im surprised mobile shell could not pin point the difference between both versions, Im sure it will generate some selling points ,won’t it?? Blind guys like me agree that the two versions are pretty much the same.
SPB Menu just became perfect! (nearly) - you can fully customise the menus now! Have fun

I did play with the program alot. V1.5 has some improvements but having the extra dial tabs makes the program more difficult to use with your finger as I already have 5 tabs. I would still prefer the one dial tab with two/three rows of photo contacts.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great program.

Although my Artemis shows 60 % free program memory, this ROM is still painfully slow.
i've download now n will try...
Thanks for the rom!
Like user above, runs very slow on the main menu but once in file explorer etc it's just as fast.
Time to upgrade the phone??
3rd wm 6.5 rom p3300
I have tried all 3 version of this ROM,
nice look but very very slow on my artemis.
today TITANIUM good, Honeyconbs slooooow other apll quite fast,
IGO8 breeze, tt7 slow.
I hope that some1 can make this fast than today.
it was lag & makes my phone hang... this ROM requires more RAM...
anyway thanks uploader... something new...
tested it for 20 minutes.
TOO SLOW on Artemis.
downloaded and tested for a day or so now
the titanium is better than in previous versions, seems to run smoothly and integrates well at last...good to see the clock finally making a propper appearance in there
also the first chance to play with the new honeycomb interface.
unfortunately the jury is still out on this one.
my view is that it's more of a hinderance than anything else at the moment.
This totally replaces the start menu. Click on the start button and you're taken straight into the honeycomb interface. I wasn't expecting this behaviour from it...i thought it would be more of a today plugin replacement or something, and if it's going to behave like this on new roms it needs to be
a)quick
and
b) easy for you to find your programs or settings that you want.
Personally i dont think it does this yet.
You can click and hold to bring any app into the "favourites" part of the comb, which means you can now "pin" your favourite apps...mcuh like your last used apps used to automatically appear at the top of the start menu.
Unfortunately i think finding anything more than you favourite 5 or 10 progs would quickly become a real pain in the ass.
let me give a quick random example
on a "classic" style rom, let say you want to go to the "SMS SETTINGS" app....you'll go to start , settings, hit the communications tab at the bootom and choose SMS SETTINGS
on this i'll go to start, straight into the honeycomb. From experience i know that it's not in here (which is good becuase this is now a looong page to look in) so i choose the SETTINGS cell. now all i can see is 7 cells and remember there are no tabs here anymore so this is ALL of your settings. I've got About, backlight, bluetooth, buttons , certification, and clocks and alarms. Anything else i have to start randomly scrolling and searching so i start moving downwards. Eventually find it on the 12th cell on the left That's 12 'Down clicks'. If i wanted WLAN SETTINGS or something i would have to do a lot more scrolling. Everything is alphabetically sorted which helps, but it's a 3 colum system and so you still need to read ALL of the available options and you need to know EXACTLY what that app is called (is it TOMTOM or NAVIGATION? Is it under T or N ? etc...you get the gist)
I hope they are still experimenting with this interface becuase i think it looks good and COULD, if done right, be a really nice feature for the WM6.5 system...but it still needs some fundamental work before it works well. Remember how, from the concept art, we through it would be a 2d scrolling 'intellingent' list...it's not. It's stricly up and down alphabetical.
I can't quite put my finger on what it IS that's wrong with it...but there is SOMETHING...it just takes too lonk to find what you need at the moment. Maybe it's just unfamiliarity and it'll all become clear after a few days use, after all i've had 5 years of experience with the old system...the same as lots of people switch vista and XP's interface into win2k mode becuase they know where everything is. I always plead with those gus to stick with it and learn the newer systems becuase they usually DO make sense....but this time i cant see it yet
The new lock mechanism also needs some work. they've obviously tried to emulate a slide-to-unlock mechanism without making it TOO similar to the iphone....unfortunately this means that you get the small blue slider we've all seen on the screenshots at the top-center of the screen and sliding it 1cm or 2 to either the left or right unnlocks. I personally think this gives too much scope for accidental unlocking. I mentioned in another thread a while back about how a "shake to unlock" feature would be self defeating. the point of a lock is to make sure that when the phone wakes up becuase of incomming texts or whatever the phone doesnt totally wake up and end up accidentally resetting all of your calendar appointements or calling people while it's in your pocket....you need it to be HARD to unlock accidentally, but not hard to unlock intentionally. The balance is not quite right here either, same as the honeycomb.
it's still in beta and hopefully the whole thing just needs those last few "tweaks" to the functionality and ergonomics before it too "makes sense" but right now i'm more than willing to switch back to dhee's last manilla rom....it's just easier to use. I hope i'm right and that this rom is in BETA for both reliabiliy AND functionality reasons.
theres a lot of potential, but it isn't there yet.
these comments are ALL down to the mew 6.5 system, NOT dhee's rom, which seems to have done everything it can with what it's been given. Considering the clumsyness of the new interface etc this is as good as i could hope for a 6.5 beta rom to be, and i will install his next rom without ANY hesitation.
for anyone wanting to try the new features out, this is the rom to go for, but i wouldn't blame anyone for not keeping it for too long
thanks again dhee for a great rom, i just hope you get an improved system to pass on to us next. I'll probably leave this one for another day or so to see if it grows on me, jstu like i gave XP and vista's new interfaces a chance.

yeah, the M2D version didnt work for me....reverted back to his earlier 6.5 Beta 2 version with M2D becuase i dont think the honeycomb and titanium is quite ready yet

This one is not from dheewatara, and was one of the first roms to include WM6.5.
So far DJ M2D WM6.5 5.0 UL is the quickest and smoothest.
i found DJ M2D WM6.5 5.0 UL to be the same speed as the 2nd rom with M2D from dheewatara, but dheewatara's rom has the newer camera version (with panorama mode) and a slightly newer rom version if i remember correctly. I'm sticking with that one for now
we beg pardon for my terrible English :-[ , I wanted hear there is version room without additional programs ( light ) plz give reference

Who here disabled TF3D?

Anyone disabled TF3D and kept the original WM home screen interface? I personally disabled it and kept the original interface even though I don't like how the WM SMS look. I disabled it because I don't like the default TF3D colors and I tried changing it black, but it's a no go. I don't know why! I did change the background and the drop menu all black which looks pretty neat since anything black looks good. What I really want is the WM6.5 Zune interface so I can't wait for WM6.5 official release!!!
Let us know what you have.
TF3D does not appeal to me!
TF3D is pretty, so people "oooo" and "aaah" over the phone and buy it.
However, I still think that TF3D is a bunch of useless kitsch that gets in the way of actually using the phone effectively. After a few hours of it interfering with what I want to do, I turned it off. (At least this time it took a few hours and not a few minutes.)
This is especially true of the messaging (it's just in the way), and the photo album. (who wants to see tiny, slanted, distorted versions of the pictures?) It's been a while, so I cannot remember the other specific things that annoyed me.
TF3D was the first thing I disabled on the device... I don't like that I cannot choose my own programs and way of working.
I use Wisbar Advance and Wisbar Desktop
on my personal Touch HD I much prefered the TouchFLo interface to the standard windows one - saying that, that was running a Dutty ROM
However on my work TP2 - I have it disabled as it gets in the way of my business apps - i.e. MS Communicator etc.
TF3D has bad things an good things.
The biggest failure and that's why TF3D is just crap is because it's not intuitive and easy to use. Way to many steps to get things done, pretty useless taskbar (exepts for the killing programs part). You can do to much information on one screen at the same time and too little. It's nice that they include things like a calendar, but it's pretty useless and in many ways TF3D makes the use of third party software actually harder.
The very good things about touchflo 3d is the push pages, the scheduels, and the best thing is the fueture to see all of your conversation with one contact. I really love it. Next to that it's snappy and pretty.
Well I treid SPB mobile shell 3, but it just doesn't do it. Also many features, but the fact is: when I use my phone it's to get something done pretty quickly. I just want to be able that I have a good view of all the info I need (messages, appointments) in the least ammount of time and to be able to do something in little time. The regular wm is just very easy. Start - settings/programs - choose- done.
Seeing my messages when there is a new one I get a popup and pres view and I there. I do not have to click the task baar. Get a new screen there push on the button, then being transported to the touchflo tab and then have to choose the message.
THats 2 clicks vs 4/5 clicks.
I kept the default TF3d for now, as soon as the official WM 6.5 ROM will be available, I'll switch to the Titanium UI.

An interesting 'Widget' based replacement for TF3D I came on when I was looking around on XDA.
"FEWidgets Ultimate" by nicodega.
It replaces TF3D completely as a 'Today' plugin.
Basically one just has to install the CAB.
(Note: it will not show up under All Programs, but as a Today plugin only)
> Go into Settings> Today>
> Remove check next TF3D
> Enable Check next to FEWidgets Ultimate
Two versions- Large widgets and Small Widgets for anyone who needs a whole bunch of widgets.
I did try it out on my TMO TP2 and both versions basically work when I tested each separately.
Though I haven't tried fine-tuning each widget for my TP2 yet.
Enjoy.
i kept my TP1 and gave the TP2 to Dad whose TmoWing crapped out. Had to disable TF3D for him today. The last straw was contacts/call history will not allow you to dial out, it's link to the phone dialer was broken or something. I don't know if this is a result of a tweak I did or if the Tmo's TF3D version has a bug. After disabling TF3D, you can press the contacts again to call out. For future reference, anyone know the cause/solution?
Like above guy said, now I need a replacement for tf3d. The last version of BatteryStatus that I used was 1.04build266 from this time last year, which has since been replaced by HomeScreenPlusPlus or something like that. Anyone know of a stable version for the TP2? Stable enough for Dad?
Today Plugins
I kept the default TF3D, but with HDWall, because I love the eye-candy of the interface and I find it very intuitive to use. I have also tried other today plugins, such as PointUI Home 2, FEWidgetsUltimate and iPhonetoday, but none of them felt as smooth and easy to use as TF3D for me. Out of the other interfaces I tried I find FEWidgetsUltimate to be the best.
LINK - iPhoneToday
LINK - FEWidgetsUltimate
LINK - HDWall
LINK - PointUI
EDIT: On my previous device I tried SPB Mobile Shell - LINK
I also got rid of TF3D. IMHO that is eye candy for people who don't know how to use a computer - and that is still a large number of people out there using phones. W/o TF3D I get things quicker done and have more flexibility to set up the phone the way I use it best.

Thanks for the link! HDWall and Mobileshell looks nice.
It is VERY usefull for me! I can't use without! I'm bored by WinMo interface.
I too found TF obtrusive and unintuitive so switched it off. I used to use SPB Mobile Shell on the Kaiser and liked it, but I'm a bit fed up of the way it doesn't integrate with Informant and Flexmail, so I'm back to the WM interface and don't miss all the bloat.

ATT 6.5 Upgraders! - A few of questions...

Hi All
I have an unbranded SEA TP2 and am 'still' waiting for the official 6.5 upgrade from HTC.
If you have yours already i wondered if:
1. The Keyboard light issue has been fixed...?
The bugger doesn't seem to stay on when typing on the 6.1 standard.
2. Anyone tried SRS WOW on this new version...?
The 6.1 release ran it OK, but the phone eventually went into a non-wake up state so it proved to be useless.
3. There is less memory used to run the phone...?
6.1 seemed to use a hell of a lot of RAM after a while - i disabled push internet and this helped a lot.
4. Touch use in Landscape mode is better....?
With 6.1, it was often hard to trigger an event off say Opera in LM, finding the trigger hotspot was a little off on some of the buttons in various apps...
5. Is the Music Tab any better.....?
6.1 is all but useless for me. It was slow and oddly picked a single piece of cover art and used that for all songs. Interestingly, Nitrogen used the same songs, but applied the correct art to each song.
6. Is the Zoom Bar better or is there a 'magnifier' built in to the new OS..?
On my 6.1 the zoom bar is not too responsive and seemed really under utilised. I did see a built-in magnifier app on a video somewhere and hoped it might be included on 6.5 and the updated Manilla.
If anyone can shed some light, that would be really great.
In the interim, I wait for the update......
Cheers to all

[APP] Meditation Timer [v0.1 alpha]

I recently picked up my habit of meditating again, and found it rather difficult to meditate for a while without losing track of time or reaching my intended quiet time.
Thus, I have developed MeditationTimer for this. A very simple 1 screen timer that allows you to set the number of minutes you wish to meditate and start it. When the sound option is selected it will play a sound after finishing and go back to the start screen.
Looking for some feedback on how the GUI works and scales on various phones, as it's my first WM application ever. Developed on a HTC Touch Pro 2 running Windows Mobile 6.5
Requirements:
- .NET CF 3.5
- Windows Mobile 6 (6.1, 6.5)
- 1MB of storage
Features:
- Simple to use Sense SDK GUI
- Plays a gentle sound upon completion
Features to implement:
- Delayed start
- Run in unattended mode with the screen turned off
- Display a different form when meditating only showing the time left and a cancel button.
- Configurable sounds
Current issues:
The application currently calls SystemResetIdleTimer() while running, which obviously drains the battery way more than required, as meditating doesn't require you to interact with the phone. I did that so I could already start using it myself, instead of postponing it until I figured out how to get it to run in unattended mode.
Secondly: It plays a stock Microsoft sound taken from Windows 7, embedded as a resource. Obviously not the best sound, but it does the job for now. I do need to replace it.
And thirdly: It's a single screen application. Meaning that everything it does is a bit cluttered as it all happens in the main form where you can start a new session. I'm currently working on this to separate that out, and have a more tranquil second screen just display the time and a stop button.
Will take a look and do some tests.
Thanks, I would love this app if it had multiple timers, with a simple layout like :

That sounds great (and a great idea too).
Thanks to have developped that.
A way that I would like it to work (not for meditating, sorry) should be to hear a beep every past hour (but not at night), maybe is it possible to implement your prog this way.
Thanks for sharing!
after using it I had to reset the phone
Hi
I like your idea of application, I would like to use it frequently,
but after trying it I had to reset the phone, before I could do other things,
the program would not shut down, the button turn of screen did not work.
after the soft reset, when trying again, it did not shut down.
maybe good idea is to have a button with the choice to block all incoming phonecalls, or block all other sounds maybe?
also different sounds would be great.
I am using hd2, with original latest rom, and spb shell 3.5.

What an excellent idea! I am going to give this a whirl too. I have been slacking on the meditation lately anyway. Thanx for the cool app!

I'm using already a long time, if you will include the functionality of this program I will test it out. The screenshoots of your program looks already nice.
Best regards and good luck !

badass app!!!!
I used this twice since install. Both times were 15 mins. The program worked just as it should on Sprint TP2, stock ROM. I really like it. Very simple and functional.
- The pic on the XDA page advertising the app would be perfect for an icon! (There was no icon in the .cab, right? )
