Hi I and a few others are trying to get WM6 cooked for the i730 besides the other Verizon i_ _ devices, and I had a few questions.
First off I have the i730 ROM dump, and am trying to acquire 2003SE and another WM5 from another device to be able to know which drivers are device specific for the i730 BUT the thing that is troubling us is in locating the boot loader..does anyone have an idea on where that could possibly be in the i730 or would anyone be able to suggest a way in which we could discover it? Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The other people know better what they're doing, I'm more so a newbie so I'm trying to learn how to do all of this. Thank you.

im an old reader of this form, cause im reading it since 2 years, but never tryed to write something.
Now im really interested in this... the upgrade of an ipaq 3970 to WM 5.0.
I know that noone tryed it, cause i really couldnt find anything on interent. But i found that someone update its ipaq 5450.
So the two has the same hardware i think apart the processor (new version) and the wifi.
So... someone can help me or explain me, cause i really cant get nothing until now.
I tryed with the described method for 5450 to update, but the Hima update tool isnt able to connect to my ipaq.

i've yet to have confirmed anybody ever porting a rom from one device to anohter even if the hardware was somewhat the same

Could you maybe post some more info - links on this upgrade of h5450 to WM5? I'd like to try it. I've done few attaempts which have failed, btu so have others to upgrading to WM2003. But maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Uhm... i dont think that here i can write links or something else about a software that sure is warez.
So u can find it easily on p2p channels, but i dont know really if it works. From what is written yes and i can believe this yes, cause i struggled much and i could update my 3970 bluetooth stack to the very last one stack outta there of Broadcomm and make it work. So i suppose that there arent so much differences from pda to pda.

As a user of Familiar Linux on a few different Ipaq devices I can confirm that the 3900 and 5000 series use the same installation file for installing Linux, so it may be possible to 'cross-flash' both these devices, however as always, make sure you have a good OS restore file available.
Actually perhaps the best way to go would be to use the OHH bootloader used in installing Familiar to save a ROM image file before trying any exotic upgrades, might help in any unbricking that may be necessary if things go wrong....

1. Is it possible to upgrade operating system from its original Windows Mobile 2003 Pro. second edition to WM5 or WM6?
2. Is it possible to change operating systems language from say German to English? if yes, how?
3. How to make a complete back-up before upgrading so that in case anything goes wrong, it can still be downgraded back to its original state?
I am new to this area and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Actually, I have a very simillar situation like yours with the Typhoon 7000XL. At the moment I don't have any solution to these problems, but I promise you if I get any, I will let you know.

if there is newer rom for the device it will likely
be on their site
or a site like this just for that range of devices
Hello. Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but I am new to flashing roms, and I don't know who to ask for help. I have an audiovox ppc4100 and all I want to do is upgrade it to windows mobile 5 or 6. Just something other than wm2003. I've downloaded numerous wm6 and wm5 images from this site (They are extremely cool looking from the screenshots I've seen!) but I cannot seem to get any of them to work. I am running windows vista, so activesync isn't available. Its the windows mobile device center. It would just be easiest if I could rom upgrade from my 2gb sd card. Is there anyone who can help me either cook a wm5 or wm6 rom for my ppc4100 or give me some pointers on how to do this (remember, I'm a newbie!) I would really appreciate anyone's help. Thanks so much!

roms are custom made for devices only a rom which is made for that type of hardware setup will do you any good

I have a WS003SH WM5 phone and I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade to WM6/6.1 Japanese edition. If I were to fail in the process I think I would have to hard reset the device, but I'm not even sure what a hard reset requires. Til this day I still have not had the chance to use a WM6 device so I'm also wondering if people feel it's worth upgrading to. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.
