Hello. Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but I am new to flashing roms, and I don't know who to ask for help. I have an audiovox ppc4100 and all I want to do is upgrade it to windows mobile 5 or 6. Just something other than wm2003. I've downloaded numerous wm6 and wm5 images from this site (They are extremely cool looking from the screenshots I've seen!) but I cannot seem to get any of them to work. I am running windows vista, so activesync isn't available. Its the windows mobile device center. It would just be easiest if I could rom upgrade from my 2gb sd card. Is there anyone who can help me either cook a wm5 or wm6 rom for my ppc4100 or give me some pointers on how to do this (remember, I'm a newbie!) I would really appreciate anyone's help. Thanks so much!

i got my hands on an install file for wm 5...i was wondering if it is possible to update my xda with this...it installs from active sync...i don't want to try anything i can't fix, so please, help is greatly appreciated...if this is not possible, then i will upload the file if desired for further experimentation and such...

you cant get wm2005
wm is nothing like windows on pc's
where you can install it on any pc
a rom have to be 100% made for a pda
to ever work at all
there is not genetic install you can put on any pda

I read the forum for some days now and did learn quite a lot. Unlocked my T-Mobile MDA Vario II, flashed HardSPL, and also a new WM6 Rom. Since I'm on Vista i have some Problems now. After the WM6 Rom was on the Device Vista detected a new Mobile Device and now Mobile Device Center from Vista is freaking out, sometimes it detects my phone, sometimes not. I pressume because of WM6, since with WM5 on the Phone i didn't have these Problems..
Anyone knows something about that?
Another thing is, i really would like to have a german wm6 rom, but the Tool to convert a .nb to a .nbh file i found in the Wiki (Koch) doesn't seem to work in Vista, i always get an compiler error when i load the .nb file. Are there any other Tools or could someone here maybe just build me a german rom with Vodafone OEM stuff and convert it for me?

Uhm.. ?!?! I did, else i couldn't install a WM6 Rom. My Question was about the connection issues AFTER upgrading to WM6 and about a GERMAN wm6 rom i can't build myself because of vista, so ?! There's nothing on the mrvanx site that could help me with these 2 issues, or am i blind?

I must learn to read properly! The problem is caused because the device centre sees it as a new device, it would be best to uninstall the device centre and reinstall it that should sort it. In regards of the tools problem I know of nothing to fix this, I have to run mine on XP it is the only way.
Damn...Thanks anyway. So i have to make my rom when i'm back at office with some XP machine
I have the same problems with Vista detecting my phone. I sometimes have to plug and unplug it three times before it detects it. Also, it seems to work best for me with the option "Enable advanced networking functionality" unchecked in Settings | Connections | USB to PC.

roms are custom made for devices only a rom which is made for that type of hardware setup will do you any good
i have a question. Where can i find the 6.1 microsoft windows mobile upgrade? I dont wanna use 6.0 i wanna use the new one.

I have a question, i downloaded a 6.1 rom. I copyed the both files to the desktop and i followed the directions on there. When its upgrading the rom image my active sync disappears so then it gives me a error. What im i doing wrong?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
I have a HP IPAQ 2755 HX running Windows Mobile 2003 SE without problem. I have been searching through the internet trying to see if its a good idea to upgrade to WM5 or WM6. I am not sure if its even possible as I have seen some posts that WM5 runs with degradation. Can I upgrade to WM6?
Can I even find a download for Wm5/WM6? I am still gathering information and details and not clear the process to upgrade the ROM.
Any information / advice would be greatly appreciated.
If I do upgrade the ROM and there is problems how easy is it to fallback the original ROM? Could it damage the unit?
