I have a problem with my Tmob MDA Compact III. After using my device for whatever reason, I will come back to it after a few minutes to find that I cannot turn it back on. That is, the screen has turned off as expected, and normally the green flashing led is flashing intermitantly as normal. However pressing the power button has no effect in turning the screen back on. I have checked re battery issues and that seems fine, however this does not happen when it is plugged into the mains. The only way to get back into the device is to remve the battery and turn it back on. I have found when doing this however that the device is far sower to reach the main WM Today screen, especially on the screen prior to the Windows 'loading' screen. I have found that sometimes the screen is not off, but actually dimmed, very low and a dark navy in appearence. Again, the only way to regain control is to remove the battery.
I am running WM6 (standard fro TMob) and have only ran the offical ROMs on it. I've not tinkered with the internals at all! I have performed a hard reset of the device hoping that this would resolve this issue but unfortunatly this still continues.
I'm stuck now and desperatly after help. Cant afford a new phone and contracts not up for ages yet.
Help!!

Send it back
Have you considered ringing 150 from your T-Mobile handset and arranging to have the phone sent for repair. I think if you are within your contract you are within your warranty so to speak. T-Mobile will then send it to HTC who will look at the device and see if the problem is covered by warranty or not.
If the issue is outside warranty for whatever reason they will tell you this and quote you cost of repair.

I have a t-mobile tp2. I put on the htc 6.5 firmware on and it was working very well. All of a sudden, i come to use the phone and it's turned off. I can't even turn it on. I have to take the battery off and then turn it on. I thought something with the firmware was corrupt so i loaded a different firmware. Same thing! Happens about once a day. Sometimes i can go a day or so without it doing it. Is my phone bad? Any advice? Thanks!
Before you upgreaded to wm 6.5 it was the same way?
I've got an EU version with the stock HTC 6.5 upgrade which happens to be connected to TM UK. I too get these occasional lock-ups but I don't think the phone turns off, just refuses to wake up (had one today and the green LED notification was still blinking) - again a battery removal and soft reset is the only cure.
I've been getting less since a hard reset last week but still once every few days - somewhat annoying!
My touch pro 2 does the same thing. Except i have narrowed down the symptoms to after the phone goes on stand by for 3rd or 4th time. It doesnt turn off it actually goes into like a stand by that it can't come out of unless you soft reset the phone. Which is really weird. I am running 6.5. i have replaced everything and can not figure out what is causing it to do it. i have cooked so many different roms with no luck. I am also using build 28002. any help please!! i hate to have to soft reset my phone every 15 minutes or so... very annoying.
Ok, I was having some software issues with my Tilt 2 (TP2) and I talked to Tech @ AT&T, cause I wanted to get it exchanged. So they had me go and check to see if my ROM was outdated, which it was. I bileive it was on 1.59-ish, and now its on the most current one direct from HTC's Support site. My main problem right now is that the phone is 99% unuseable at the moment. AT&T has already agreed to send a replacement after talking with them a few hours ago, but its going to take about a week to get here, and it'll most likely have the same ROM and the same problems, so here I am posting to let people know whats going on, and see if anyone else knows what causes this/has this issue.
Right now the phone is completely stock, only installed app is MS My Phone so I could sync my contacts. I can let the phone sit till the screen shuts off from idle, but if I need to turn on the screen once it turns off, it requires the battery to be taken out. Right now my phone is sitting in front of my keyboard, with its screen black and off, while the keyboard is lit up. Something to note - the keys on the bottom of the screen are NOT lit up. Pushing buttons on the keyboard does nothing. Caps Lock and FN do NOT light up their coresponding indicator lights. If I am lucky, I can get the phone to come out of this state by having someone call me, but aside from that, taking out the battery has been the only way to reset it. Only way to keep the screen from freezing is to constantly use the phone. Using the phone is slow as balls. I thought TF3D was slow, Sense is just as bad. It worked perfectly fine at first, right after it was updated, it was nice and fast, but now that its been used for a few hours, its sluggish.
Anyone ever had this issue with this ROM?
And does anyone know how to possibly fix this issue, or at least get it so the screen will show that its on? I can deal with it being slow, so long as I can use the screen
Thanks guys

You already ruled out a software issue by flashing another stock ROM. This is something hardware related. Sense on the AT&T ROM is dreadfully slow. Use a custom ROM if you want the features of Sense, but in a faster iteration.
Very good day
I have a query, I have a HTC Touch PRO 2 RHOD300
The phone is counting on the next problem happens when you try to turn the screen by pressing the button on top that will not start and if you take the pen side of the phone just turn on the lights in the lower keys where this call, Windows key, Back and Finish. The phone returns to regain normal when a call comes in after the returns to be shut down and locked and not back on the screen.
In other cases there is the disadvantage that remains off, open the phone to expand and to use the qwerty keyboard and this light comes on but no screen and if you call the phone number that shows no signs of life with this call More on the other side of where you are calling is heard that he was calling.
My question is whether they have a patch for the solution and if someone else had already reported this fault, this problem is being presented to several phone numbers of friends and wanted to see whether if they had a patch to fix what they could afford to apply it to the phones have this fault.
If in case anyone has a solution for this above I would appreciate very much.
Funny... I have been experiencing this same problem just recently. I have another identical phone and replace the sim card in it with the same results. It doesnt appear to happen to the phone when the sim card is not installed. I have tried hard reset, selectively installing programs, thinking it was a programing problem with one or another, but nothing I tried seems to change the problem. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Note that for my part I've been trying to give solution to the problem and have identified the following place your sim but the connections do not let my ISP leaves your network connection as my job to your phone so you do not use the 3G data network, thus the problem will not happen.
To me this is what happens, the phone went dead, but if you remove the stylus from the side, the lower lights are lit but not the screen, but if you make a phone call to your cell this and respond, but entering Idle this again locked again.
HTC have written to me but these have not been resolved.
I am in Guatemala and I used 2 different companies and the problem persists.
You friend in that country is, and have only confirmed this problem also began to give you on Friday May 20? because that was the time when many telephones HTC Touch Pro2 here began to have these symptoms.
Yes. Friday would be correct.
So if the issue is global, it is the end of the world of mobile
This doesn't appear to be a new problem though. If you search on "Screen of Death", it is quite common. However, I have tried several of the solutions that I have come across, with no go. It is complicated by the fact that we started experiencing the problem at the same time.

Well, something very odd just happened to my samsung focus (at&t) when I rebooted it. After the samsung screen shows, a pure red screen shows up for about 2 seconds and then it goes black. when I push the power button (or hold it) it simply goes back to the red screen again! Naturally, I thought to battery pull which simply put it back onto the samsung screen only to then go back to the red screen again.
I then thought 'maybe this is some sort of glitched state that it is in (it does seem to be stable in this state of redness, the capacitive buttons seem to give haptic feedback when pressed and the power button turns the screen off and on) so I decided to battery pull again and then connect it to my pc to see if it would detect that the phone was in this special "mode". after the battery pull, the phone booted back as normal??? It had about 89% power according to the battery percentage app when I rebooted??
it is fine now, but WTF was that anyway??
EDIT: ok, now it gets weirder, I got it to go into this state and quickly connected my usb cable to the computer and... zune pops up and it goes to that screen with the phone wanting to sync, but the phone being grayed out?? when I dragged a picture to my device, IT STARTED TO SYNC WITH DEVICE! It didn't even get an error and, after a successful reboot to the actual phone, THE PICTURE WAS ON MY DEVICE??? oh, and btw, it boots insainly fast when it is in redscreen mode...
i am now seriously confused beyond all hope
happened to my omnia 7 yesterday.
Just as well since i was going to flash the new rom anyways (and i did.. hasnt happened yet)
I think...it happened when i took my sim out.. i put it in and dont think it happened.
Might have to do with samsung. Other than Dell, Samsung has proven to be the weakest OEM in terms of hardware/software/firmware reliability.
I had this after I tried the 16Bit gradient hack. Setting the values back to 16 solve the red screen problem.
Wow... Ur right! Thanks for the fix =D
Sent from my mailbox
it is related to the 16 bit banding reg hack. It has been discussed/mentioned in that thread several times...
Has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last month, ever since I changed the values to fix the banding on my Samsung Focus.
Just yank the battery and restart, hasn't been a continuous problem for me, and definitely a small trade-off to get rid of banding, IMO.
Same over here
Now that you mention it. I have the same RSOD problem with my Omnia 7 after the 32 colour bit hack. In my case it will happen after I have switch the phone off for the night and switch it back on in the morning. It's fine when the phone is switched off and on again.
I was just downloading some apps from android market - the phone wasn't responding to the download requests (no notification that anything was downloading) so I restarted the phone.
Upon restart the phone stuck at HTC splash screen and vibrated 7 times all I could do was a battery pull.
Now the phone is a brick. Can't boot with vol down+power.. the only thing the phone does is display charging light.. however when I take the battery out and leave the charger in, the light is still on? (eBay'd a new battery, will see if it's a battery issue in a few days)
It was bought in May, but because the screen is cracked I'm unable to send it in under warranty...
The phone was completely stock as well (besides OTA updates in Australia)
What to do?
Firstly, the Market downloading thing is a problem of Google, it happens to me most of the time, so I don't think its related.
Secondly is there no way to turn on the phone? If so, then can't u service it for this prob? The warranty shouldn't be void for the screen crack.
