as the sun said to the black hole I have a few odd Questions about my orbit. - P3300, MDA Compact III General

Hi all thanks for all yuor help.
Does anyone know if i can get sky on deman, 4OD on my XDA orbit ? Also when i try and stream radio off i player i have to open it in real player wont play in browser any ideas ?
Cant seem to get iplayer working on the video side either.
Also when i try and watch a utube mobile video i get errors and it wont play.
Can it handle any kind of Direct X ? might have to go find that old doom game i had back on my simbian thing.
On the overclocking is there any kind of stabiility tester ?
Also is there any way to hack a normal XP exe file to mobile compatible installer / program.
anyone recomend a really cheap tarrif no txts needed no more then 60 mins needed but unlimited web access would be the aim.
Oh and for all of you that havent tried it ( i havet tried it on this device but i beleave it should work will update) have a look at orb.com its a way to stream all yuor PC media to any device with a browser kinda nifty
Oh and i know the answers no on this one but wares the video out ? just a composite out would have been nice via the usb.
oh and anyone use a radio transmitter thing for ipods to radios if so recomend a good one and the same for stereo bluetooth headphones.
Oh and though i will try this later i have a blue tooth mouse mogu, think it will work ?
its not essential i am just explorring the limits of the device.
only dissapointment was no IR was going to be auniversal remote for my home and work and many other places i guess i should have checked more but i read on one review it has IR :/
thanks any ideas hear say thoughts welcome

oh and anyone know of a way to get the radio on without the headphones in i realise it uses as an aerial but i guarantee it can work without it, i had a lobster with DVB that worked with just a paper clip in it and as long as it was in one place ie put down while i worked it picked up a few stations so FM should easily trump that.
Also a good case that will stop it cracking when i drop it which i will. Just trying to get all my questions out any thought are welcome.
oh yea anyone got information on what the mini usb can out through put ie i guess 2 connectors of the 4 are power and 2 data ? i ask as at my work we use a GUI interface with touch screen and if i had that running on this little XDA i could slack for a motnh on the praise alone hehe ( the gui works on registry entries so i guess it probably wont work but that leads me back to earlier questions..
How much does WM6 differ from XP or should i ask is there any similarities ?
Yup i think thats all the questions that i have ben mulling

lol not quite i have thought of 6 or so questions since, can this thing join my local netwrok lan and can it have shared folders and resources.
i'm sorry i know people like to go into depth on one subject but thats far too slow for me and you ya realise how short life is lol i am investigating all these but any help welcome
oh and orbit deffinetly better name the artimes sounds like an art room cleaner or a failed gladiator :s right thats it i am going to do somthing not connected to xda's lol. i think its kartrider.com time online mario kart wicked - oh fyi i want this on my xda if i figure out earlier answers

Jeeeez man, dont ask for much LOL. Ill try to answer as many as possible for you as best I can.
1 - SKY on Demand = Nope not yet (check out which you should have done.
2 - iPlayer not working = To what end. I take it you having issues streaming media? Dont think it will work.
3 - Youtube = Dont bother, seriously. Artemis (Orbit) doesnt srteam it properly, and if you can get it to stream, the video will very VERY choppy.
4 - DirectX = Why? What you wanting to run? As far as I know the Orbit should support Direct3D OK.
5 - Overclocking = Sure, overclock it until it stops responding. Seriously. Peoples results vary on each device. Mine I manage to get to 273.
6 - ??? = Why?
7 - Web Tariff = Think Vodafone Pay n Go do a good tariff which gives you unlimited browsing for small price. Dont keep me to that though, I dont bother with GPRS/EDGE browsing.
8 - Orb.com - Dont need it, I have my home network connected to my PDA and I just stream what I want via wifi through Coreplayer.
9 - Video out = Dunno if there is one. There is a diagram around here of the out outputs, Ill see if I can find it (or maybe someone else can help).
10 - Radio transmitter = Just google for one man. (example) (Google results)
11 - Bluetooth Mouse = Again Why? Surely for you to be able to see the screen decent enough, you will be holding the Orbit anyway. Seems like a it would be a pointless/lazy bluetooth add-on.
12 - Radio without headphones = YEs you can obtain an adaptor that will plug iinto your mini usb and act as an aerial. Some/most also have a headphone jack so you can use your own headphones (probably your iPod headphones in your case) example
13 - Good Case = Try GPSforless, they usually have good deals on all sorts (probably have that FM adaptor too).
14 - Attatch to monitor = Dont think it would work anyways. Dont think it would be able to output more than 240 x 320 pixels anyway so itll be the same as th Orbit screen (pointless).
15 - WM6 different than XP = Ehm.......in what areas?? Its a mobile platform so yeah it differs alot, or is quite similair (in respect to using a registry, etc..).
16 - Access Network - Yes it can definately access your network and shared folders. Dont think PC can access it over network though.
Phew !! Well thats me. Please feel free to correct me on anything thats not right (Im sure there is plenty LOL)

Media Player only ROM???

Hi all, long time lurker here ... so thanks for all of your hard work, has always made my HTC devices far more useful
I would really love to turn my diamond into a media player only as I use a Touch Pro as my main phone now. I know this is perhaps a little counter-intuitive to many of you ... but I was wondering if there would be an easy way to create a ROM that was just a mediaplayer and bluetooth. Disable all gsm/umts hardware to save battery life and perhaps leave wifi and a browser app. I would also love to see the "touch scroll" feature for navigating lists and what not, but before I get too excited with my idea I will let you all sanity check me.
TIA

would it not be cheaper ....to buy a thing called a ipod?
i here thay can do what you want
4gb on a diamond won't go far
true ... but an ipod I don't already have and I do have a diamond
Also ... I am really not a fan of being forced to use iTunes with an iPod and the other media players are not as shiny as my Diamond
I do understand there may not be a great demmand for this, but if it was easy then I would be a very happy dude.

You can always cook a version with nearly no OEM apps except your media player. As for your phone/gsm/etc support, why cripple the phone? Just turn airplane mode on in your comm manager.
I would still like bluetooth ... and I would love a super light rom that booted nigh on instantly ... I am guessing from the responses so far though that this may not work out as an idea though

Instant booting is not something WM does well...
I guess it might be possible to strip down the SYS as well as the OEM, and leave you with Phone, media player(s) and comm manager, without email/messaging, office, games, terminal services etc...
I have a Diamond arriving on (hopefully) Wednesday, when I get it, I'll try and cook a really light ROM for you!
Just so I know, what media player would you prefer?
thanks l3v5y ... that would be awesome ... I have only every really used the built in mediaplayer. whatever the best/simplest mediaplayer there is that has a decent interface ... just doing a bit of searching now to see what kind of media players are available.
How quick do you reckon you might be able to get the boot time to?
Also if you could leave Opera/allow install of opera that would/could be useful.
A quick browse suggests S2p could be a good choice I am gonna give it a quick try now?

I haven't tried to see how fast I can get boot times on a Diamond. When I get mine I can see.
If you get a list of all the software you want/need, I can try and remove all the rest.
Thats great ... thanks
I would like all of the S2 apps and the bluetooth stack so that I can use A2DP
Thats it really ... all I want is great battery life and fast performance.
No need of touchflo3d or any other shinyness from HTC at all.
Happy to have wifi and phone removed to help battery life. If they can't be removed or if the two benefits I would like to see won't happen by removing them then please add in Opera.
If it is possible to get S2P and S2U to autostart then that would be doubly cool.
Cheers
Sam
To the OP: Pocket Player is a great mediaplayer. At least for music, as I haven't tried it with video.

Use CorePlayer for video. x264 decoding...
Like I already mentioned, WIFI and Phone can be turned off via comm manager, so you don't lose any battery anyways...
As for autostart: you can always add a link to \windows\startup\ and your app will autostart, or you can play around with hklm\init, though that would be pointless.

Wow, that has been a phone dream of mine for years. What a good guy!
While comm manager is fine ... I barely made 4 hours of playback on my diamond today (an hour and a bit of A2DP action so not that bad) but I am hopeful that if more is stripped from the ROM then I may get a bit more life out of it.
@WMGuy ... I know ... would be cool
@L3v5y ... I guess a regedit app would be useful for tweaking settings etc.

Once I've played around with my Diamond a bit more I may start a "Custom ROM" service.

I've got the 2.03 ROM now, and I can strip out a lot. I think removing the phone itself probably won't increase batter life much, and removing wifi may make things unstable, but removing the phone skin probably will decrease memory usage and processor load.
S2U2 auto starts anyway, and a short cut to S2P can be made relatively easily so that it autostarts.
What I've currently got on my list of "to keep" (as much of the rest as I can remove will go) is:
S2P
S2U2
S2V
Phone
WiFi
Opera
System files
Bluetooth (A2DP)
Comm manager
cheers l3v5y ... that looks like all I would ever want out of it ... I guess if it is more of an "entertainment" device ROM then sticking Teeter in would be cool too.
Thanks for your efforts and let me know if/when you have anything that you would like testing

Ahem, if you sit down and think about it objectively, you will get maybe 4,5h of listening time. Face the facts - to run a WM6 device you need minimum of 150-180 mAH, now translate it to the capacity of the battery (900 mAh) and in IDEAL condition you will get... exactly this, which is 4 hours give or take.
So, if you are looking for a media player, you should now think about additional cost of extra battery... So, why not do as everybody else, i.e, for nails you use hammer, for wood you use axe, and Diamond is a PDA phone, not a multimedia player (although it can be used occasionally in this mode).
Of course, it's interesting exercise (media only ROM) but that's it. Exercise. You won't get a real player out of it. Sorry. technical limitations of the Diamond design.
Unless you buy extra battery of course... and then Diamond is not so sexy anymore....
all true and fair points ... but I can personally see a benefit ... even if the battery life can't be improved upon, most of my time is at a desk where it can be charging or in the car where it can be charging. I guess I will go the way of a dedicated media player ... but I am one for always seeing the "next big thing" on the horizon and holding out for that, by which time I am hanging on for that, I am also loathe to shell out for one until my entire (90GB) music library can be held on it, happy to "shuffle" to my diamond but if I am gonna have a media player I would like it to hold all my music (and not be an iPod Classic) (akward I know ... but hey)
Cheers
Sam
Just remember that this race never can be won. That is, once a device with 90GB that you like comes out, your library will become 109BG, and what then? It's like with the PC's, phones, etc. There's always something special being prepared which is soooo much better than present designs...
Still, Diamond was not even designed as multimedia player.... hence the battery and capacity limitations (BIGGEST!! fault - lack of memory card slot).
Still - all the best!

How to Show off the HD

Can anyone reccommend any apps which dont necessarily serve a purpose but are just cool to have on the Touch HD? Things like the diamond hologram and the lightsaber? Thanks.
btw, im sure this has been posted many times before but in this thread we're looking for cool gadget-type apps as opposed to games or tools which are useful.:
Look for the hologram software prepared for the Diamond. It works on the HD but you cannot zoom in/out because of the lack of hardware keys.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450571
Thanks, but I kinda already mentioned the Hologram...
Sorry kinda skimmed through your post.
What about I Am Rich? Cloned from the famous iPhone app?
Also transfer some really high definition shots which are particularly in focus and sharp (|theres a difference|) and show em to people. Make sure they're bright too. The little HD screen is reall HD (high definition) in contrast to whats out there right now. Sure the Experia has the same screen resolution (480x800) but the screen is too small to actually allow one to enjoy the high resolution.
i always liked the guitar and piano tuning programe its freeware and always cool esp if your friends acan actually play and instrument. do a search its in the list of working programs
I lot of what you need is covered here in a similar thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=469782&highlight=demo
Ive already got some nice pictures to show off the HD, but thanks for the idea.
The thread was kinda helpful but towards the end made me feel as if i had chosen the wrong device (touch HD over iPhone) as, at the end of the day, im the type of person who wants an entertainment device as opposed to one gears towards productivity. The Touch HDs GPU doesnt help things either...
Anyway, back on topic, any other apps? Thanks for your help so far
well u already mentioned apps like diamond saber , diamond beer .
u can try omniano , if u havent already
other windows mobile apps like g alarm or g watch made by members here look cool on the big screen .
or i contacts / sms chat
cant think of more apps but u can edit touch flo 3d use transparent clock or different themes etc. or maybe winterface ... it looks good on the hd
Any more Apps?

That one was nice
I find the best way to show off the HD is to have a high resolution, high quality video, then play a bit of it to people. That gets wows! I've had mine since mid November and it still makes me go "wow" when I play videos encoded using the Encoder GUI from this forum!
That really does work better than it sounds. Thanks.
Any others?
Try MusicID - a guaranteed hit.
It used to be freely available, however there was some discussion whether it was freeware of shareware.
Music ID is awsome... I honestly dont know how I managed without it. Trying to recall half a lyric I thought I heard while I was drunk. I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago. It's still free as far as I know. Obviously it connects to the net to get the data, so if you're not on WiFi then you'll be charged by your network for data.
"quickmark" is good fun. (just mentioned it in another thread) It's a kind of barcode scanner, but only scans 2d barcodes. Still good fun, especially creating them for friends.
any others?
It's amusing to offer to save their internet connection, by setting up your WM phone as a Wifi router and allow them to use your connection.
Most amusing for iPod Touch users who don't have a data connection at all, but can use Wifi!

MSI BGP100 Bluetooth gamepad, drivers?!

Hello!
I have just bought a Bluetooth Gamepad which is from MSI, the model is BGP100 and now that I should install the drivers on my HTC Touch Pro, there is not a driver for my touch pro but I know it works because others have confirmed it. There are a lot of Windows Mobile phones as it supports so what supported model would have been appropriate for my Touch Pro? Or perhaps any that has Windows Mobile 5 / 6?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13760
It works on Omnia even though it isnt supported:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo6ec2nYhyo
And I have heard of Diamond users too.
Best Regards Gustaf
use the drivers for any other HTC device listed and it will work
Hi,
I've buy an MSI BGP 100 for my HTC Diamond 2 but I've some problem with it.
Directional buttons work fine but the A B C D buttons are only one button ( sorry for my english ) You know, when I push A B C or D, it's the same action.
Can somebody help me ?
Thanks
i have the same problem, i hope someone help us...
i have read this topic but this not work for me.
a solution perhapse....
Try The Attached File
I know that this thread hasn't been posted to in a few months, but I hope that the information that I am posting will help someone. This is my first time posting anything, anywhere, on the web.... so wish me luck.
My current setup is a HTC Sprint Touch Pro flashed to ToO's CricKet rom(very nice). Whilst expirementing with emulation on the device, and mapping the keyboard buttons, all of the Action Buttons were showing up as the same location on the keyboard. Regaurdless of what button I pressed, they all came up as 020 if I remember right. After spending night after night of searching forum after forum, along came a solution. Posted somewhere in the deapths of our very own xda-developers.com I read about this program KforTP. Created by "Jack Wang", I am not sure as to how Mr. Jack came to developing this marvelous tool... but I think it would have happened like this...
Late one night in 2008 while at the bar, Jack sat sat freeloading WiFi on his HTC Touch Pro. Downloading emulators at speeds that would put The Flash to shame.
(Evil Laugh)
After a few rounds too many Jack became enraged at his phone.
"Why won't my Action Buttons map on PockSNES!"
Only it came out in a drunken slur. The bartender knew that Jack was terribly drunk.
"Hey et your drunk #[email protected] outta here!"
As Jack left the bar in his beat-up honda he turned the music up and let the windows down to keep his mind off of driving drunk. Rounding a sharp curve on a wet road Jack soon found himself spinning out of control. Lights were comming from everywhere on the dashboard....
"OH &$#% I'M GONNA DIE!!!!"
The car finally came to a hault, and Jack was deaf to the music wailinng from the speakers.
"Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaw!"
Jack got back on the road and drove safely home. After walking through the threshold of his abode, Jack knew that he survived that crash for only one reason.
"I must code a fix for my problem with the Action Buttons not mapping."
But any way the file is attached so give it a shot, and let me know how you liked my first post ever in my LIFE... any feedback would be nice.... Add me on Facebook... whatever.... oh wait, i never post my email address! But seriously let me know what you think. I have never tried this program on any device except for MY Touch Pro. The code may need to be adjusted if you intend to use it on any other device. I do not take any credit for this program in any way. The authors information is in the "about" section.
OoOoOpPpPpS
Wait just a second.... that wasn't even related to the topic of this thread!!!!
Well I hope someone gets some use out of the above information.
Thanks for the zip, though just one question, who/what are xda developers?

Sportypal pretty good!

have sporty pal .. good but the maps and the gps is a bit iffy.. but it's very good for what it does.. and you can do walking etc. but i will try other apps listed here .
sporty pal is good. As long as u dont let ur phone lock or turnoff it work ok. Really good data presentation!
iv found memory map which uses ordnance survey maps to be excellent for this type of thing.
thanks guys i had tried and just come up with junk i think these will work, will have a play with a few and see what i perfer, thanks again SpZero
GPSVP ppc
by far the best of the lot IMHO... although not the prettiest, ad takes some playing with to get the best out of it but it's open source!
--
I've just used it to do a 372km/2 day ride to the HPV world champs in tilburg and back home again.. worked perfectly for me.
it'll read GPX files in (so plot them out in something like Bikely.com)
then use the pc version (or the PPC version) of gpsvp to download all the map tiles from google/live.com or openstreetmap..
It'll also handle Garmin compatible maps, so you can find openstreetmaps in that format as well..
when you've got all the raster maps you need (at all the zoom levels you need) transfer the folder to the ppc and setup the app..
Obviously if you've got data access while out you can download maps on the fly so to speak.. But I didn't while roaming.

I couldn't agree more. I use Memory-Map (http://www.memory-map.co.uk) for cycling and walking with my HD and it's just brilliant. Large maps with great detail on the big screen. You'd need to carry at least 1-2 spare batteries though to last you through a full day...
The software logs your track to upload to your computer and then convert for Google Earth to share with the rest of the world.
A great website for UK cycling routes ready to use is: http://www.gps-routes.co.uk
Have fun, Alex.
+1 for Memory-Map, have used it in the UK with 50k and 25k series maps on HD.
Dont forget the one and only "GPSCycleComputer". Very good program, and its free!

Now I'm using more applications, but Sportypal and RunGPS for me are the one's that you must try, although rungps is not free. There is a trial version that you can try, after that you must enter validation code. Sportypal is completely free, and I enjoy playing with it. For cycling is good and it's pretty accurate. Couple of days ago I installed the 1.0.5 version and the problem with locking or going into stand by mode is fixed. Here is my workout info so you can see what it has to offer.

Just brought TP2 want to use emulators + more q's

Hi So I used to have a touch HD (still do but selling) and have brought a TP2 (arriving soon) and I want to make good use of the keypad.
The first thing I want to do is play on some emulators what are some good options? I have narrowed it down to fpsece and morphgear, are they the best? any others?
Is there anything else cool the keypad gives me that I couldnt do before? I was thinking an app which allows me to connect to my pc/ps3 as a blutooth keyboard would come in very handy does this exist? If not can anyone point me in the right direction to make this myself - I know my way around C# and wm development but never done anything with bluetooth or emulating hardware.
Many thanks

Well there IS a WM app that will do that for both PS3 and PC, it's called MobileRemote1.1...but it seems that it's not working right on the TP2 as of yet. So, if you're skilled enough to fix that issue, there'd be some grateful people here I'm sure Info in THIS thread.
Now what you can use in the meantime, at least on your PC (no PS3 support yet) is an app called gremote, which gives all kinds of remote PC control options, over BT or wifi. Basic version is free, full version is paid. http://gbmsoftware.com/
Thanks for the info on the apps. If I can get some good info on making this type off app I will give it a go.
